Congratulations to Centreville! Westfield made a valiant comeback attempt in the 4th quarter, but ultimately C-ville was able to maintain their advantage from four first half Westfield turnovers. Centreville was mistake-free, and deserve to progress - good luck next week, we'll be rooting for you!

Only at the state level can cyclists be more restricted in their use of roads - VDOT governs their use, not Fairfax County. Anyone is free to appeal to Richmond to remove cyclists from roads with speed limits up to 45 mph, though. But guess what? The World Road Cycling Championships for 2015 are to be held in (and around) Richmond, VA. So any complaints would be falling on deaf ears, more than l

And yes, simultaneously, Centerville had their worst offensive perfor

Centerville definitely had the stronger offense, but fell victim to a scrappier Westfield defense and special teams.

Westfield 13 - Centerville 10 in OT. Centerville had the stronger offense - easily outgained the Bulldogs in yardage, but Westfield had the scrappier defense and special teams. In OT, Westfield had the ball first, kicked a FG. Then Centerville takes the ball and promptly fumbles with Westfield recovering - end of game!

Westfield defense this year is the best high school defensive squad I've ever seen - better than their 2007 state champion team's. Look for low scores when the big 4 in Concorde play each other.

Some roads are too congested or high-speed to cycle safely, Maple Ave. and FFX County Pkwy are two that jump immediately to mind. But there are others that are just as dangerous without being congested - Oakton Road for example. In 1985 I was driving my Jeep CJ-7 down Oakton Road at 35mph, slowed to 25mph around a blind curve - blind because that stretch was thickly wooded and I couldn't see aro

Most of the cyclists on the W&OD, to my observation, are courteous and give wide berth to pedestrians, runners and children/families on bikes. I know I do. The "rule" for cyclists who are riding faster is to announce loudly from roughly 20-30 yards behind overtaking - "On your left!". Most of the time I get an acknowledgement from whovever I am about to pass. No one has ever demonstrated host

Awesome photos skywatcher, thanks! I'd have to watch a couple of 747's, 777's, A-340's in early, mid-afternoon and compare to the A-380 to get a better impression of its size. I'll be out there by Udvar-Hazy later this summer for sure to get a good look. When I used to work the ramp a few years ago, got to go inside the AF Concorde when it was parked after its final flight here - just before bei

The new stadium would only have to seat 25,000 or so, if that. The location in or close to where a proposed Nats stadium was located - by the Innovative Technology Center - might be a good choice. Another site could be the area bordered by Rt 28 to the west and Frying Pan Rd to the north. DC United would sell out in the Herndon area, for sure.
