Food Services is funded solely by lunch money, not taxes. Though they actually ARE in the charity business (free/reduced lunches to students theoretically get paid by some government), they cannot give away lunches to those who can afford to pay.
The Food Service Lady should have called over the manager; or equivalently, perhaps the Food Service Lady told your son to talk to the manager? Note that the Food Service Lady could have gotten in trouble had she given your son a reduced price lunch and gotten caught doing it.

No, if you want to get a person fired from their job for 50 cents, you should talk to the appropriate person; the principal has nothing to do with Food Services other than discipline problems that occur in the lunch room such as food theft (a real problem), fights, and food fights. First, talk to the manager of the cafeteria - it's unlikely that person will fire the Food Service Lady, however. So go over the manager's head to the Food Services supervisor for that pyramid. That's also unlikely to get results so you may have to go to Food Services HQ to try to get results; appropriate contact numbers are available on
