Good luck getting the Post to follow up. They don't like to upset Dale or the school board.

FCPS is good at educating the very top students, those who were reading we they went to school, could do math by first grade, very smart kids who are capable of learning on their own. FCPS does pretty well with those kids. With the others, not so much.

Why would I waste time supporting a system that is failing our children? That system won't change because the government runs the schools. It hasn't changed anywhere in the country. Why would it suddenly, radically, change here? It won't. Only competition will make things better and democrats who are in charge in FC will never allow that. As long as there is no choice, nothing will change,

Dale doesn't need to read most of that long post, it needs to be sent to DED where it will get lost and be ignored by the bureaucracy that thinks it knows everything and sure doesn't want to create more work for itself. But some of them are nice ideas. BTW, In FCPS any student can take an AP course, no GPA or recommendation required.

I don't think it's PC to mention their race. The Post always tries to avoid that, even when describing escaped killers. If the Post can do that, you should too!

You will need to get the Principals involved to agree to a transfer. There is a form to submit. There are several acceptable reasons, like where you work, and childcare arrangements, among others. Most principals approve transfers, but you will need to provide transportation. I just found the information that you need: http://www.fcps.edu/ss/student-transfer/index.htm Good Luck! I hope th

The best course is at the NRA, over on Rt 50 and Rt 66. Legally, you don't have to take a course. They have to have a reason to deny you a permit. But taking the NRA course is a good idea.

What happened to the severe budget problems? How can they justify building a school that isn't needed and then fuss that they don't have enough money to run the schools?

What kid needs 11 hours of sleep at night? How many 10 year olds go to bed by 8:00 every night? Your kid will be fine if he has to wake up by 6:00, after a mere 10 hours sleep. If not, perhaps he could take a nap after his endless volleyball practice, before his math tutor, and after piano lessons.

Oh please, what kid sits at a table for 30 minutes to eat ANY meal? They don't. How long would it take a kid to eat a bowl of oatmeal and drink a glass of orange juice? 10 minutes, tops. And it's a lot healthier than bacon and eggs. Pack him a big lunch. He'll fine without a fruit salad for breakfast.

Same here, Mom of Four. My assessment went down 2%, first time it went down in three years. I don't know why Vienna houses don't seem to lose as much value as other parts of the county. Makes no sense to me either.

Houses on my street all went down $11,000, (except for the one that recently sold) first drop in 3 years, but such a small percentage. Can't complain, depending on how much they raise the tax rates. It seems houses on each street went down the same amount. Everything on my street dropped $11,000. Another street in Vienna dropped over $200,000! A couple of streets in Reston dropped $70-80,0

Hahaha, you are so nice! But we all know that no sane person would want that job. How about we all get behind Steve Hunt? He believes in real math, real English, and even history with dates! He also listens to students and parents! Just imagine! Of course someone like Steve will never be able to make a bit of difference on the board. But I sure respect his efforts to make things better for

How would kids leaving TJ know that South Lakes is better when they've never been enrolled in South Lakes? Sorry "See for yourself", but your posts are not believable. Nice try though, for a kid. Glad you like your school.

Why not two IB schools, two real magnets, at each end of the county? IB at Mount Vernon and South Lakes or Marshall, schools for students who are serious about getting the IB diploma. Make the other schools the cheaper, and more popular, AP program. Cut half the administrators in the instruction office. I have no doubt that anyone in the county will suffer with 'only' 200 curriculum specia

Did that meeting serve its purpose? Did it frighten you enough to make you want to lobby the BOS and beg them to raise taxes so the schools won't suffer? If so, FCPS and BOS public relations offices are earning their pay.
