FCPS Community Dialogues - what a joke!
Posted by: 90 missing minutes ()
Date: February 25, 2009 07:16AM

I was at the first round of the FCPS community dialogues regarding school start times and I'm going to ask the county to reimburse me the 90 minutes of my life that were wasted at this meeting.

After a prepared statement and quite possibly the cheesiest video ever brought forth by FCPS - you can't even look at Chairman Strock with a straight face - The attending community members got together with the people at their table and answered 6 questions on paper to be given to the school board.

Seriously? That's it? I just burned 90 minutes talking about something that I could have covered in a 2-minute e-mail to the board? Frackin' wonderful.

On the positive side of things, prior to the table discussions a couple of parents asked for info on the extracurricular schedule. The disdain was palpable when it was announced that most sports were going to start and end an hour later; groans became audible when volleyball had a planned rescheduling to 5pm-10pm; and more than a few angry comments were made when "What about swim and dive" was answered with something to the effect of 'it can't be determined at this time as any schedule change would have to be discussed with the parks authority' - I thought there was going to be a riot, lol.

Positive side of things #2 - the SLEEP people were there to greet everyone at the front door with a mess of flyers - it was like watching two of the hyenas from The Lion King looking for a meal. I took the opportunity to, in much kinder words, tell them where they and this whole biased process can stick it.

The school board changed to the "moron format" after the redistricting fiasco last year. The don't know how to handle passionate constituents. Were the police there as well? This is now how the treat the public--"through the turnstiles please, through the turnstiles!"

Thanks for summarizing the meeting. I had a feeling it would be something pointless and '1984'-style. As Orwell wrote, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

It's dangerous to allow the elite minority to continue dictating how the school system operates. They do not tolerate anyone who dares to think independently.

Dan Storck is the protector of Waynewood Elementary, a FCPS school that run like a private school north of Fort Hunt National Park (off the GW Parkway). That school has driven out several principals in a few years because the parents are such egotistical control freaks. I have no respect for him.

OH you meant the bus stuff. I thought this was about the Budget Community Meetings last fall. Those were a real crock since the input from residents doesn't fit with budgets grom County and School.

Heil Guster!

Exactly how long did you live in the county before you sized everyone up and began your class warfare campaign? After you've torched and burned Langley, McLean and Fort Hunt to the ground, what's next? I hear some families in Oakton drive imported cars and a few Vienna residents shop at Whole Foods!

That explains it!!

No we know why Dan's other Mt Vernon schools suck!!!

Hey Dan, if you have a spare minute away from the South County Middle School Solutions Group, why don't you spend time at Fort Belvoir Elem. Oh and by the way the 5 year projections for capacity at that school are 1900 students!!!

Holy cow! 1900 students in an elementary schools. We are going to need 40 trailers!!!

Keep up the good work Dan!! Hope you get reelected-we need more just like you wrecking our schools.

Evidently my points hit too close to the truth for a SLEEP activist.

Otherwise, why would she be so upset? She could simply present honest information instead of typing out hysterical, hostile posts that say nothing useful.

I am not upset at being called an idiot. Please continue. It tells me that what information I have learned is right.

Really, why would they spend the money to do anything different or exciting? They are just going through the motions to look like they had discussions...in the end they aren't going to change anything. And, why put on a big dog and pony show if they know this up front?

That is a HUGE number for an elementary school Its bigger than some high schools.

They think it will make you feel better to have had some input
into the process. Really. They are doing it for you. Can't you
feel the love?

DS no Lincoln:

How long does one actually have to pay taxes here before they're allowed to have an opinion? Yes, renters pay taxes. What do you think is included in the high rent around here, Einstein? 10 years removed from New York and I'm still stunned by the disproportionate number of self-important people trying to force their will on the community.

Good point but the truth is this, and it came from a board member, SLEEP has conributed to several members campaign chests to get re elected. There is a site which lists their contributors. Not sure the adress but find it and write your feelings about the issue to the appropriate school board members!
