Does anyone else feel DOOM coming?

Financial meltdown? Depression? Hyper-inflation? Yuppie suburbs like Fairfax County becoming ghost towns with empty McMansions and abandoned SUVs?

The DC metro area isn't going to fall as much as other communities in the country because the vast majority are Government employed. In fact, my company is booming with $90M in new business. :)

Yes. Fairfax County is the epitome of what is wrong with this consumer-driven materialistic society.

With BAC shares at $4.66 and gold going north again, it feels like it's only a matter of time before 'stimulous packages' will have utterly no effect.

No, you can thank the fact we did our job correctly for the first 4 years of a contract which was up for re-compete and we won based on past performance, which kept jobs for about 500 staff.

Yes. We are all going to leave NoVA to live in Kansas or Ohio or some other God forsaken place with a worse economy than ours. Makes perfect sense.

I thought you were all for bailing out the poor. Unless they're white, apparently. Stupid fucking liberal guilt.

I like the way Cheney put the icing the cake by saying "He thought the US would be attacked and possibly a nuclear attack."

I guess his Blackwater investments are down.

Did that meeting serve its purpose? Did it frighten you enough to make you want to lobby the BOS and beg them to raise taxes so the schools won't suffer? If so, FCPS and BOS public relations offices are earning their pay.

Is there a possibility you'll stop putting words in my mouth and start using your own? If providing equal opportunity to the "poor" is bailing them out..I plead guilty. I feel no liberal guilt...I speak from total self interest. I am merely more impressed by the intelligience and work ethic of the poor then you whining 20 year olds on here. We need illegals to do the work...you are too lazy to do.

Myles Brands and others seem to think somehow you can and should legislate Equality of Outcome. You can't.

I've read enough of Vince's posts to seriously doubt he falls into that group. Equal Opportunity is something we should ALL be able to expect. That's not "bail out" that's just fair.

So you're poor, then?

Also, if the poor had a high work ethic and lots of intelligence, why are they still poor? I'm sort of dumb and lazy, and I'm doing quite well for myself.

No Vince, you have that one all wrong. It will be those who are
accustomed to the "entitlement" lifestyle who will be looting
and rioting when the meltdown happens. Gun owners will be able
to protect themselves. When it happens, don't expect me to loan

So I think we agree DOOM is coming.

Personally, I think it is a good thing. This country needs an enema. When everything collapses all the Obama supporters will be utterly disappointed and let down. They will lose faith in govt the same way many republicans have over the last 8 yrs with Bush's ineptitude. The establishment is crashing and we are witnessing the final death throws of the Statist regime. The Phoenix (free society) will rise from the ashes...

I think the demise of the dollar is imminent. I never used to be a gold bug, but with all these bailouts and spending, ON TOP of threats from China to stop buying our bonds (and Korea saying they are going to sell them in 2010), I've become one.

These times are going to be in the history books.

Pardon me if I don't quit my desk job to go dig some ditches or do day labor to earn your respect.

What do you do, Vince? What sort of credentials do you have that makes you an authority on these things? Are you a hispanic day laborer yourself? Are you a black automotive mechanic? Considering how much you rail against successful white people, I can't imagine you are one of those.

I hate the fat, greedy, lazy corporate fat cats as much as anybody, but your generalizations on white people are racist as shit. That's like me saying that if black people put down the fried chicken, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. Or if hispanics stopped stabbing people and learned english, we wouldn't be in this mess.

"White collar welfare?" What the fuck does that even mean?

It's ok, I'm not judging. In fact we should all take advantageo of every govt handout we can. We should punish the Govt for its inefficiency. This will bring about the collapse even faster. Personally, I am taking the advantage of the Govt's handout in the form of the GI Bill. The Govt also paid for my undergraduate degree.

And why not? If the banks can take billions in taxpayer dollars and throw parties with it, why should I be left out? Besides, if I wasn't working this job, it would just be some other asshole that would spend their paycheck on frosted hair and BMWs. I'm trying to clear out my credit cards as fast as possible so I can start planning my wilderness stronghold.

We're all minutes from the ground. We're all seconds from impact. May as well try to enjoy the ride.

Don't bother paying off those credit cards. In fact, now is the best time to wrack up huge debts b/c you will be paying them off with severely depreciated dollars in the very near future.

If the banks get desperate enough, they'll jack the shit out of the interest rates. That would interfere with my plans.

Govt doesn't have any capital. And we haven't had capitalism in this country for almost 100 years.

Exactly. The Govt doesn't have any capital of its own. It produces nothing. It only takes. And the Govt hasn't allowed capitalism and free markets to exist without intervention and meddling for a very long time. Govt is the self-annihilating force... not capitalism.

really? so the proliferation of government and government agencies doesnt disprove that statement? Capitalism depends on supply and demand. When the demand is met and saturation of supply is met then demand stops and the business needs to find some other way to sustain itsself. thus success breeds its own demise. Capitalism being the very definition of self annihilating force.

Did I exclude myself from any of the people within the beltway who have never known a true day's hard work? I merely see it for what it is...welfare to keep higher educated folks from committing crimes. We want our criminals to be the less educated amongst us...so the rest of us have to be given some stake in society...something to loose...thus white collar welfare. The best example are those people working in the Defense Dept in the DC area who think they actually contribute to the defense of this country. Some do...95% dont..they are merely a cog in the wheel..given a job in order to keep them out of trouble.

Capitalism has never worked that way.

The Govt proliferation and growth is proof that it is the self-annihilating force. The more Govt intervenes in markets and lives the bigger it becomes... the more it has to tax to support its new endeavors... the more weight and drag it puts on the free market leading to more struggles... then Govt sees a need to intervene even more... the bigger it Govt becomes.... etc etc. Its a positive feedback loop which will end with the destruction of the dollar, a lower standard of living for all Americans.... and if we're lucky- the collapse of the Govt itself... and if we're not lucky- well use your imagination as to what measures Govt will resort to in order to maintain power...

except that the population continues to grow, thus needing more government agencies to sustain communities and services, thus gaining more tax revenue this the need for more government and so on and so on.

Capitalism is more like a farmer that continues to plant the same feild year after year and uses its resources up and doesnt allow for that field to remain fallow. The recession is that fallow period.

Yes. I find oppression of the proletariat to be extremely exhilirating.

Do you read what you write, or do you just type words and see what happens?

The population doesn't need govt because govt has nothing to offer except taxes, debt, war and supression of liberty. Govt can't give people anything (or sustain communities! WTH????) because it doesn't produce anything. Whatever Govt provides they must first take away from someone else. The bigger the Govt gets the more problems it creates... leading back to the short-sighted kneejerk response of "more govt can fix the problem", thus the self anihhilation...

Your farmer analogy is very flawed. It is the Govt that doesn't allow recessions to happen naturally. They are always too worried about the next election to allow that to happen.

Please wake up, throw off the chains of Govt burden, and realize that Govt is the problem... not the solution.

I love my country, but no empire lasts forever. Doom is correct, to an extent; Every law is an erosion of freedom. A society needs a certain amount of rules and order to survive and flourish, but you can never, ever legislate against stupidity or a lack of common sense. When they try, everyone suffers.

Agree. I would like to fast forward 50 years to read those history books too. I suspect there would be a thorough debunking of the FDR myth and other Statist icons of the fallen American regime.

That FDR was terrible. That's why he was elected four times.

Taxes pay for infrastructure improvements and education. Debt? People get themselves in debt with credit choices, WAR?!?!? Governments work very hard diplomatically to avoid wars and suppression of liberty? Governments provide legal framework and laws to uphold liberties. The Government has plenty to offer including aid and assistance in everyday needs like law enforcement, Fire fighting, education, social services etc such as unemployment benefits. You have no idea what you are talking about.

So we have stooped to that level huh?

It has been a while since I have seen someone who is such a staunch supporter of their own enslavement. Please take a class or two in basic economics and read or read a couple books on history. Your current comprehension is as close to 180 degrees backwards as I have ever seen. But in fact, that is the greatest trick the Govt ever pulled—convincing the masses to be complicit in their own destruction.

Are you saying education or infrastructure is a public good? Wrong. I’m guessing you don’t know what that even means.

People put themselves in debt? Wrong. The govt puts us all in debt and sticks us with the tab. If someone wants to run up their own personal debt go ahead, no one should stop them. But to be burdened by the Govt’s debt without any say in matters is criminal.

As far as Govts working “very hard” to prevent war?? HA!!!! Oh my, you can’t be serious. I won’t even bother knocking that strawman down… too easy

And Govts don’t grant liberties. They only decide which ones to restrict.

If you want to focus your arguments on things like externalities or free riders please do so… but don’t give me clichés about “social services etc..”

I have pity on people like you who fall for the Govt’s ploy… hook, line and sinker…

No, Im saying free public education and Infrastructure are BOTH good things, not one "or" the other. Im guessing you dont know the differance between an if/than either/or statement.

The governmental laws are there for the public welfare. Laws restrict and keep order as does law enforcement and anarchy. Are you an anarchist Dr Doom or do you not enjoy the relative peacefulness of FX county?

I have no pity for you as you are clearly deluded and have enjoyed the freedoms granted by the United states governments institutions while railing against them. Your writings reveal a bratty adolescent who is rebelling against his own cushy life.

Ferfux- do yourself a favor and research public goods, externalities, and free riders. Without a basic grasp of fundamental economic theory I can't even talk to you. Your gross misunderstanding is evident in your comments. As far as the rest goes I see you are a firm believer in the Statist regime. It will take the coming collapse to test your faith and commitment to that way of thinking, and hopefully divorce you from it. Which returns me to my previous point- I am looking forward to the coming doom in order to rid ourselves of the cancerous Govt and begin rebuilding a more perfect society in earnest.

PS- don’t ever assume you know anything about me. I just might come back to bite you in the ass.

Dr Doom. I know all about externalities, public goods and freedom riders. These are basic concepts that every freshman has an understanding of. You should take your own advice and not underestimate those with whom you are debating. The Lack of basic grammar in your posts leads me to believe you arent able to grasp basic concepts and are merely parroting deeper subject matter that you over heard like a 5 year old eves dropping on an adult conversation. Your feverish survivalists fantasies of rebuilding society from the rubble smacks of any number of shallow dystopian stories. As for "I just might come back to bite you in the ass." Im not into sado masichism and I would encourage you to seek therapy or a consenting adult with whom to act out your bizarre fetish practices.

Ferfux- no you don't. Even after editing your remarks you still managed to f' it up. Don't worry though-- it's funny to read. Thanks! If anything, I hope you got a little education out of all this. I know you spent at least a couple minutes on wikipedia. I can see the gears turning up there... (and to borrow a line from you) parroting the ideas that have been jammed into your head by the establishment... even if it is incoherent, I know what you are trying to say. Your need to stoop to some psycho analysis (read projection) / insults shows your insecurity with intellectual debate when you are in over your head. Stick to lobbing your attacks from the shallow end son. I wouldn't want you to drown while straining your head to think critically and deeply. Reading your post history I see that is your patented move- to result to personal attacks when you are outwitted. I can't blame you. When all else fails it's a good move for the mentally weak cowards like you. Now go back to playing comedian and let the big boys have the real debate.

thats rich coming from someone who named themeslves after a fantastic four villian who is pompous, overbearing and has a messiah complex yet who lives in a fantasy world and is always bested by his supposed physically and mentally inferior foes. Interesting choice there. Hows that for psycho analysis?

I read enough on here to see that you were voted Biggest Douchebag Ever on this forum. Seems like you have made a name for yourself on here. Truth hurts don't it? LOL!!! Maybe you should start a new life on a new forum where people don't hate you. Here's a lesson for when you do- think before you start typing... and don't tackle subjects you that are above your mental comprehension level because it will just expose you for what you really are. Take care, son.

Dr Doom. You seem to employ the tactic of accusing others of that which you yourself are guilty. Dont be afraid to admit your faults and dont project them on to other people. Its ok you can find help out there from the very social services from which you rail and cringe.
Secondly, I cannot refute subjects and arguments that are not previously stated. Your comebacks with "Externalities" and "freedom riders" are extraneous to the argument as originally stated so you replying to my posts stating that I dont understand those concepts makes no sense because previous to our discourse you had yet to state them. You should take reading and comprehension and learn that I cannot peer into your own fevered imaginings.

Third. I fear that we are fated to argue much like techno viking who stands for truth justice dancing and the Scandinavian way and KOMPRESSOR who is a mindless industrial dance artists yet ironically DOES NOT DANCE. Never ever to see eye to eye.

ferfux- HA!!! You still are f'ing it up! I thought your wiki search would have cleared that up for you. And this only gets funnier and funnier- you were the one to bring up those topics but you were so ignorant to it you didn't even realize the reference- HA!.. I'll let you off the hook though. Your heart is in the right place... unlike people like Krugman and other academics who know better but choose to spew lies in support of the State.

Ferfux- Seriously? He's only a Nobel Prize winner and one of the most well known economists of our time. Get a clue.

And Dr. Doom is right about Krugman knowing better but still spewing lies. He is little more than a mouthpiece for the powers that be.

And I don't think Doom was trying to say anything about you. He was merely saying that unlike Kruman you don't know any better.

I'd be careul ferfux. He pretty much made you his son already. Do you want to keep getting pwned?

I liked Dr. Doom more when he appeared more about the collapse of the status quo and less about anarchy. Yes, if we don't fix our shit, we are done for. Just like every other kingdom and empire and country in history.

Let's say the "free society rose from the ashes" tomorrow. Sooner or later, like-minded people would form groups. Those groups will eventually have a leader. Those leaders will organize things for the sake of efficiency and in the best interest of their followers. It would be a return to the tribal way of life until someone swoops in and conquers us all under one banner and establishes a new government.

Given the choice, I'll take the American government over the Chinese government any day.
