You know what, I never understood why Facilities had the "rule of thumb" on the "3 miles radius" for bussing students while the Langley boundary has largely been protected from the SL redistricting--come on, the pink elephant is there sitting in the living room. Many boundaries around here are more than 3 miles with some much more such as the Langley boundary and portion of Chantilly corridor th

To the OP, You could also check out Merritt Academy located in Fairfax off Route 50. I think it is a bit more expensive than the Lady of Mercy in Potomac though. My sister used to work there when she was younger. At any rate, just look up private schools from the phone book or on the internet for around here and research.

Yeah I agree--the "old" school board members need to be replaced with "new" school members, new ones who must understand that scratching each other's backs, backroom deals and all that jazz will not be tolerated among most constituents around here. Integrity and transparency are very important for SBs to carry out especially if redistricting schools is so common in Fairfax County.

"That homework is the teacher's own personal FU to parents for not getting their COLA." Idiotic--some parents' wages are affected by not getting their COLAs as well. Amanda, my kid is a 7th grader and takes math 7 Honors--has extra homework with math, but in other subjects, amount of homework is fair. Best to instill time management to complete homework assignments on time and with out being

Did something happen to you, a close call car accident, being tied up in traffic due to the driver's stupidity of not cleaning his/her windshield or what?

Based on this article, VA schools will not close a week before Labor Day all because of the "Kings' Dominion" law? Kings Dominion management is worried that if schools started a week early, it would affect their tourism season and the workforce at KD?

That is very interesting. I had to pay for the AP fees as well for my high schooler. I had wondered why because high schools around here have been providing advanced programs (AP and IB) ever since the programs have been incorporated and now we parents have been forced to pay for AP/IB exam fees starting this year. Should be interesting how FCPS responds to this--will Paul Reiner (sp?) hide

Since Feb is still a winter season so if we get snowed in for Feb 21 forcing schools to be closed, then FCPS moves on to the next snowday make up for Feb 21.

"I pick up my order and return home. Lo and behold my order was wrong" Here is what the OP should have done... Open up the box and check at the time of pick up. Does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. On the other hand for those who are fans of delivery-orders, better to be safe to go in and CHECK your orders.

"When the power goes out, we cut firewood and build a fire in the fireplace." That is good..but what about others who do NOT have fireplaces, ie live in apartment complexes or dwellings without fireplaces? But I agree that we just have to deal with it whenever there is a power outage. For example with mine, the power went out at about 7 pm last night (came back on around 1 am) so my kids an

I just got home and My high schooler informed me no schools for tomorrow. I drove by the neighborhood elementary school. The entrance to the school and sidewalks surrounding the school are not even shoveled or cleared out yet. I was thinking while driving in my vehicle, "sheesh no schools tomorrow". So here we go! Another day of schools being closed.

Oh boy just read these posts, I can imagine how nightmarish it was for yesterday afternoon to evening drivers trying to get to their destinations and for those with gas being run out. Power went out here starting about 7 pm and came back on in the middle of the night. Getting ready to dig out soon--lots of digging... My work office is open, but I am going in on Friday instead!
