Give Florida State an ass whooping, that's good, and you're basing that off his performance over the "quality" defenses he's faced this year? Stone Bridge is about the only legitimate D he faced and he had 92 yards on 27 rushing attempts, zero rushing TD's. Centreville, who is not a juggernaut on defense by any means gave up 133 yards on 27 attempts but again, zero rushing TD's. I've got news for you, nobody from either of these teams nor anyone he's faced is going to FSU let alone anybody close in comparison!

Hembry Ripped the Heart out of Stonebridge, will end up with over 2,000 yards rushing, 20+ touchdowns, 8+ interceptions, and will go to college for FREE!

Zero Rushing TD's How about 1- TD catch? and How about that interception with the 50 yard return to the 2 yard line as time expired, or that 65 yard punt return for a TD that was Called Back...Relax Mickey you wont have to play him anymore after this year!

Still have yet to answer the question, who's currently recruiting him?

Also, to comment on an earlier post, you don't have to pimp kids out to get major offers, talent is what attracts coaches.

If you're good enough, the big programs will find you, whether you're "on the circuit" or not.

Look back.. I said "best player in Virginia"... not best prospect. There are all sorts of reasons why one kid attracts attention over the other, including size, grades, opportunity (i.e. what program he is coming out of and their connections). I'll stick to it. There is not a better high school player around, ability to run with speed, power, elusiveness... and... I happen to think he is actually a better defensive back than running back. He can throw, catch, run and hit.

So now I know what the deal is, I'm dealing with high school kids. I have to assume that since we're now down to name calling which quite often happens when one side really has nothing other than opinion and not factual evidence.

Look, I get it, Hembry is a great high school football player. He is definitely one of the best players in Northern Virginia. But he is not the best player in the state, that's the cold hard fact.

Once again, please answer my question, who does he currently hold offers from? Because in the fall of a high school players senior season top players have multiple offers, most already are committed.

Currently, most major D1 schools are already preparing for the 2018 recruiting class. That's how the top programs stay competitive, they're always a year out which is why the junior year of high school is a football recruits most important season.

So once again, answer the question, who's he hold offers from?

For the most part the one dude is correct most D1 talent kids already have an offer or offers before their Senior season is over. Having noted that There have been quite a few no scholarship walkons that have earned scholarships at every major D1 school in the country. Many of those have gone on to the NFL. Several D2 and a few D3 players also make it to the NFL Pierre Garcon for ex. Not all arediscovered early.

Here in lies the Dilemna, Hembry is a phenomenal high School football player, he does not Have the 6'-4" height or the 4.3 speed of the 4-5 star athletes...What he does have is Heart and Will which always Prevails. Many of the ACC Schools N.C State, North Carolina, Wake Forest that are Looking at Him are Not Fully committed To making that Offer. If one of the ACC Schools does Pull the Trigger they will be Pleasantly suprised and he will move Rapidly up the depth charts if the ACC passes James Madison, Marshall, Towson, Uconn, Richmond Will Gladly scoop him up..that doesn't take an expert..Be patient Grasshopper, your not paying his Tuition.

How are his grades? No one gets a scholarship unless they are NCAA certified. Recruiters don't want the best player if he doesn't have the discipline to make it academically. 6'4" dummies with a 4.3 forty kids are working minimum wage jobs.

So Rebel Run S&E decided to venture into the NOVA rankings themselves and came up with:

1. Lake Braddock
2. Hayfield
3. Stone Bridge
4. Woodgrove
5. Westfield
6. South County
7. West Potomac
8. South Lakes
9. Madison
10. Centreville

I guess in this jumbled up season it is not a bad attempt but I think Broad run needs to be in here (and probably Potomac Falls). So logically throw out Centreville and put in Broad Run – which like everything else this year is ironic because Centreville beat Broad Run. See – no matter how you try to rank ‘em someone has a good arugment.

Rankings are all well and good, but it's the PowerPoint breakdown that matters. We won't have that nailed down until after Friday's games (thank god TC is on the road this week).

PowerPoints are most important of course - but those are divided by classification. It's always fun to speculate across all classifications.

Last year I thought the top 4 teams from 6A were also the top 4 teams in the region. This year I don't think so. We'll see how they perform in the playoffs...

if your going to persist that South County had a close loss to Westfield then I am going to stipulate, that if Delaney made the 3 field goals he missed, it would also have been 26-0 with 4-minutes left in the Game before a Blown Coverage put South County on the Board for the First Time. Cry me your Salisbury/McDaniel Garbage. IT WAS NOT REMOTELY CLOSE, that Beat was almost as Bad as the one Westfield took at Stone Bridge.

If your point is that the overall tenor of the game is not reflected in the final score I can accept that.

Hayfield #2? That's pretty ballsy, they certainly do belong on that list.... but #2 is an extremely high ranking for a novice "playoff run" team. And for the record, I can't honestly think of a deserving team for #2 either... so to there own.

I know I'm contradicting myself but recently when this idiot posts stuff he's ignored and stays silent. I think everyone on here has caught on to his game. It's only when someone directly responds to any of his multiple posts under multiple names does he go rabid cause he's got a stage. He must be lonely and in need of love and attention. But as you've proven and most have guessed all along he's a Centreville student/fan/parent.

What's at stake? Well, a lot. Sure, with 16 teams getting in in 6A North and 5A North, there is less drama about actually making it, but still lots riding on results from this Friday.

I enjoy the entire region, not just Fairfax County 6A, so here goes:

I believe Woodgrove (# 2 in VA in 4A) is one of only two udefeated teams north of Richmond. They play cross-town rival Loudoun Valley, who happens to be 7-2 in their own right. Look for Woodgrove to cap undefeated regular season.

Speaking of undefeated teams, Brooke Point, with their D1 running back, plays Massaponax (8-1). Ponax has been the big dogs in that conference for the last few years, and winner of this game not only gets district championship, but also earns #1 seed in 5A North.

Broad Run (7-2 and #20 in Washington Post) is at Tuscarora. Broad Run had Tusky beat last year but Tusky pulled off amazing finish by going 75 yards in less than a minute and then went for 2 pt conversion to win 43-42.. Broad Run clinches first district championship in quite a while with a win. Toughest district in the state according to calpreps and other websites.

Stone Bridge at Briar Woods. Briar has no chance if Maffe doesn't play. Reports indicate bum shoulder, which would be too bad. If he plays, Briar is peaking and always dangerous. Stone Bridge can win their first Potomac District championship (only their 3rd year in Potomac District, but still...) if they win and Broad Run slips up. Stone Bridge in line for either # 2 or # 3 seed in 5A North.

Hayfield-Madison. Not sure how healthy Madison is, but when fully functioning, they would seem more physical and capable of controlling clock and tempo. Do they have either the pass rush or the defensive back play to hold Hawks down?
Seeding at stake, but more importantly, Hayfield can claim district crown with a win.

Braddock - South County. Big, big match-up! Both have have flaws, but both are at the top of 6A North. Winner will be considered favorites to advance to state championship game, although in this year of the upset, anything can happen. Braddock favored by 6 by Calpreps, by the way.

Westfield-Chantilly - Used to be at least interesting, but Chantilly has fallen off of a cliff. Big question this year is can Chantilly keep Westfield under 50 and can they avoid the shutout.

Yorktown- Washington + Lee - Interesting in that it looks like winner is in playoffs and loser is out. My God, what has happened to Arlington football?

Enjoy!

It really just comes down to recruiting and this past year the coaches just haven't put enough time or focus on that.

Must suck for Chantilly fans and players to be given false hope about being a good team because of their cupcake schedule. Pretty sad that they get put together with powerhouses like McLean and Lee but still can't manage to work a way into the playoffs.
Enjoy the L, #5 Thomas! Always on here promoting yourself but your team can't back you up. Besides, Chantilly is a basketball school.
And you heard here first folks... MADISON wins the NR! Warhawk!

Though, it's off topic, I think it goes to say that Hayfield has hurt players as well. Inside LB in the last play of SL broke his knee or something like that, seemed to be a bit floppy from my seat. Prior to that their starting RB #22 was hurt against Langley. And a 3 year starting lineman since the SOCO game.

Are Madison's RB's back?

Seeing Hayfield's defense improved so much to hold the RB duo at SL was pretty exciting to see. They forced SL to make lots of passing plays which is quite obviously Hawk territory. Though I've seen Madison as well, and they're quite balanced on offense, but their defense suffers the same problem which is a novice secondary. Though Madison's line is very explosive, so if they can get the pressure on they could prevent those 1v1 situations with Hayfield's receivers and slow'em down.

The two first stringers Counts (ACL) and Koshuta (?) will still be out as is a lineman. Thomas, Quinto, and Walker (occasionally Kidd) handling the RB duties, plus they do run variations of the jet sweep and quick screens to the WRs (Conforti is very good and Finney is scary fast) and Choutka is pretty quick on scrambles. Trick is with whether Madison can get enough line pressure to the throw off the QB timing, DBs are good (Finney plays both ways) but the others aren't hyper fast, Kidd is quick to the ball at SS.

Madison or any other Liberty team stand no chance against SOCO, LB, WF, and CVille in the playoffs. Chantilly is more of a golf and baseball school, they finished either 3rd or 4th in their conference last year for basketball, they got worked by the eventual state champions Westfield 3 times. Can't call them a basketball school if they have no state titles to back it up. In fact, I doubt that any NR 6A school has the right to call itself a basketball school. When was the last time they won a State Championship not counting last year? That Westfield team is an exception.

Nice to here, I haven't really studied'em much (stick with Alexandria teams). I think it'll be the best game in Liberty.

And finally for Hayfield, many might not think it, but Hayfield can run the ball, and run it well. As good as Mad? Who knows, but it's effective. Their line doesn't seem to amazingly strong, but they can move around and get good positioning a long with their miniature RB who's agility reflects that of trying to catch a chicken.

I think you're a little senile their pal. I'm ignoring all the BBall stuff, but TOP 3 Liberty does hold a fist to the other powers for sure. Yeah, maybe their secluded due to being in an, overall, bad conference, but last time I checked: they all beat their Loudon counter parts (SB, Tuscy, and Broad Run) who gave those power teams trouble and beaten them(minus LB) Hayfield, the only one to play a precognitive region power lost by a measly 4 points in a 50-46 barn burner in the last two minutes. CVille can go bye-bye for now, as Westfield crushed them mercilessly while losing atrociously (By WF standards) to Stone Bridge and Briar Woods. Hell, if anything I'm sure everyone agrees that the "region powers" are inconsistent this year and all but LB do not deserve to be called a "power".

Hayfield vs Madison game will come to down to whether or not Madison can run the ball effectively(Counts(ACL) Koshuta(ACL) best lineman all out) and if Mad can pressure qb. Mad d-line explosive with Porter(beast) and Rababeh, if they can get to keeney and not give him time to throw and cobbs time to get open, Mad will win

For Many this week Means Nada, for Some it's win and in and for others, the fate of their post season run could be impacted dramatically:

Briarwoods vs. Stonebridge BW does not have the Juice to make this a GO. No Maffe, No hope. SB by 16.

Broad Run vs. Tuscarora whats at stake is the District Title for BR, Tusky does not have enough Centreville Magic left in them to stop #2 from hoisting the Banner. BR by 8

Centreville vs. Robinson Which Team shows, Robinson looks to keep it close and try to instill a sense of belonging before week #11 C-ville by 5

Falls Church vs. Stuart Stuart has not shown up since week #1, tomorrow night wont be any different, Falls Church enjoys another big night before reality comes knocking week #11-12. Falls Church by 31

Lake Braddock vs. South County, although the conference title is nice, the Region Title has been on both these teams minds for Years. Win and hoist the Conference Banner, lose and a #2-#3 seed will allow you potentially to not meet Westfield before the Region Final, is Panogne smart enough to know this.. nope, South County by 7, Lake Braddock will get the Lesser Seed and win an extra week of Play-off Football!

Madison vs. Hayfield. Hawks or Warhawks who has the sharper Talons, Hayfield found their stride Madison still ailing. Hayfield by 11

Marshall vs. Jefferson, The Fix might be in, a few Marshall kids need a little SAT/ACT help, Point shaving definitely in play if Marshall does not win by 40

McLean vs. Langley both teams have a major case of affluenza, Langley shows their not-so Rich neighbors where the $$$$ is, Langley by 28.

Oakton vs. Herndon..the battle of Last Place in the COncorde and possibly the right to jump Districts...Herndon keeps it close against a poor Oakton Team, Oakton by 10.

Potomac Falls vs. Edison. P-Falls sets up their Play-off run a week early. P-Falls by 35.

South Lakes vs. Fairfax, almost feel sorry for South Lakes having such a no contest week #10, Hope the Lag does not get them Week #11, S-Lakes resting all starters by 2nd quarter by 45.

T.C vs. W.T. the acronym Bowl, A Nice Turn around by T.C. continues as they look to make an impact week #11 T.C. by 9

Wakefield vs. Lee, Lee Wins they just might see post season play, the team with more on the line wins...Lee by 11

West Potomac vs. Mt. Vernon, West Po about to show the Majors what Week #11 Football Looks Like West Po by 19.

West Springfield vs. Annandale, West Springfield would like to end the season on a winning note, not likely, Annandale by 5.

Westfield vs. Chantilly, once Mighty Rivalry has been off last few years, the real question is will C. Thomas have more catches than J. Free has interceptions. I think Free has more INT's as Westfield Rolls by 36.

York Town vs. W&L with a W.T or Annandale Loss, York town gets in, Yorktown fighting for the postseason if they can stop the aerial attack of W&L, Yorktown by 2.

Here goes:

Centreville (-7.0) @ Robinson
I'm going with Centreville to cover here.

Falls Church (-27.0) @ Stuart
Falls Church wins but doesn't cover

Lake Braddock (-6.0) @ South County
South County has a mad-on after last week and wins this.

Madison @ Hayfield (-10.0)
Hayfield wins but doesn't cover

Marshall (-45.0) @ Jefferson
uh, yeah, sure, why not.

McLean @ Langley (-21.0)
Langely wins but not by that much.

Oakton (-13.0) @ Herndon
Oakton covers that spread

Potomac Falls (-42.0) @ Edison
Might not be enough points on this one.

South Lakes (48.0) @ Fairfax
See above.

TC Williams (-1.0) @ Woodson
I'm taking Woodson on this one.

Wakefield @ Lee (-7.0)
Lee wins and covers.

West Potomac (-17.5) @ Mount Vernon
WestPo wins and covers

West Springfield @ Annandale (-1.0)
Wow. How the mighty have fallen. I'll take the 'Dale at home giving the point.

Westfield (-28.0) @ Chantilly
Chantilly keeps it closer than that.

Yorktown @ Washington-Lee (-3.0)
I'll take yorktown.

Lake Braddock wins and covers. I think that West Potomac loss exposed So Co a bit.

At the beginning of the season, I would have put Hayfield behind both South Lakes and Madison in Liberty. However, Hayfield seems to be coming on, and South Lakes and Madison are both fading a bit. I'll take Hayfield to win and cover.
>

I hate big lines, but I can't see any way for TJ to keep this close. I'll take Marshall to win and cover.

This game is a bit hard to evaluate, but I'll use both teams' performances against WL and Yorktown as a measuring stick. Langley was competitive against both. McLean wasn't. I'll take Langley to win and cover.

Another big line, but it's Edison. I'll take Potomac Falls to win and cover.

Another big line. Perhaps Fairfax will draw some inspiration from their Northern Region championship field hockey team. South Lakes wins, but doesn't cover.
>

TC wins and covers.

Briar Woods saying they are the #9 seed and facing Patrick Henry Ashland in the first round.

I know that most of you are only concerned with 6A, but let's be honest, 5A is just as good, and probably better when you add in the top teams from Stafford. So, for those who do enjoy great high school football, rundown on 1st round 5A matchups...

1 Massaponax v 16 Marshall - Can the statesman keep the spread under 50 is Q.

2 Brooke Point v 15 Mt. View - Ponax exposed BP but Mt V not good enough to do same.

3 Stone Bridge v 14 Atlee - Atlee better than # 12 and # 13 seeds, but SB should get the W.

4 Pot Falls v 13 Orange - Behind Marshall, Orange is weakest team in field.
Pot Falls lucks out, as they probably could not defeat any district opponents at this point of the season if matched up.

5 Albemarle v 12 Falls Church - Albemarle wins tie break against Broad Run. Good thing for them because they can beat FC, but not Tuscarora.

6 Broad Run v 11 Tuscarora - Tough draw for both of these teams, which played an epic last night. Worse yet, winner gets SB. No relief for Loudoun 5A's. It is too bad that they will have to knock each other out.

7 N Stafford v 10 Patrick Henry-Roanoke - Roanoke football is step behind, but N. Stafford reeling after loss to Mt. View last night.

8 Briar Woods v 9 Patrick Henry - Ashland. BW goes 4-6 but win over Westfield propels them so that they actually host a playoff game with this record. Ashland should be a tough out for them. Winner gets pole axed by Ponax in Round Two.

Here is a recap of week 10. I think it was the most accurate point margin predictions yet, which hopefully bodes well for the playoffs. I will post postseason predictions momentarily.

Centreville (-7.0) @ Robinson
*Centreville won 14-7, nice to start the week off nailing one.

Falls Church (-27.0) @ Stuart
*Falls Church won 44-19, another pretty close line! Falls Church dominated the conference this year, but will likely be a quick out in regionals.

Lake Braddock (-6.0) @ South County
*Lake Braddock won 52-44.

Madison @ Hayfield (-10.0)
*Madison won 38-34. Good final win for the Warhawks to lock up the 2 seed.

Marshall (-45.0) @ Jefferson
*Marshall won 48-13. Jefferson finishes with their best performance, actually up most of the first half. Marshall sneaks into the playoffs as the 16 seed.

McLean @ Langley (-21.0)
*Langley won 39-10.

Oakton (-13.0) @ Herndon
*Oakton won 45-14, the game was actually at Oakton.

Potomac Falls (-42.0) @ Edison
*Potomac Falls won 49-0.

South Lakes (48.0) @ Fairfax
*South Lakes won 56-0.

TC Williams (-1.0) @ Woodson
*Woodson won 34-10 and gets a playoff spot. Great performance by the Cavaliers.

Wakefield @ Lee (-7.0)
*Lee won 33-14.

West Potomac (-17.5) @ Mount Vernon
*West Po won 45-14/

West Springfield @ Annandale (-1.0)
*West Springfield won 21-7.

Westfield (-28.0) @ Chantilly
*Westfield won 49-21, nailed a second Concorde! This is the most down Chantilly has been in 10+ years, are they going to come back soon?

Yorktown @ Washington-Lee (-3.0)
*Washington Lee won 14-10.

6A
16 Robinson @ 1 Lake Braddock (-10.0)
*Hey, who would have thought Robinson falls to 16 seed after this heavily anticipated early season match. This is the best 16/1 matchup we'll probably ever get, and I do expect Robinson to hang around and make this game interesting. This is actually my favorite matchup of round 1.

15 Washington-Lee @ 2 Madison (-21.0)
*Warhawks cruise in this conference matchup.

14 Woodson @ 3 Westfield (-28.0)
*I am super excited that we'll in all likelihood get Westfield-South County the following week. The quarterfinals will be crazy as most teams will have a shot at a region championship, and I think it is a strong likelihood that the region winner will come from this game.

13 Oakton @ 4 South Lakes (-14.0)
*Seahawks have too much athleticism, I can see Oakton keeping it close for a little while though.

12 Mount Vernon @ 5 Centreville (-24.0)

11 Battlefield @ 6 South County (-14.0)

10 TC Williams @ 7 West Potomac (-20.0)
*West Potomac is getting hot at the right time.

9 Patriot @ 8 Hayfield (-10.0)

5A picks are still to come, tough when there's so many teams I know nothing about.

Madison once again plays a shitty team, I wouldn't write Oakton off just yet they may have resentment towards South Lakes due to last year's playoff game and play better than they usually do

host a 1st round game. You know what, though? Screw those teams that don't play anybody all year. Briar Woods would beat Falls Church by 30 if they played. Briar's schedule was ridiculous, and they earned all sorts of points for beating Westfield and losing to teams like Stone Bridge, Broad Run, West Potomac, and Potomac Falls. Who did Falls Church beat... or even lost to?

Falls Church was undefeated in their 5A conference. You can't fault them for who they have to play, which is all the Fairfax and Arlington 5A teams. Their other games were besting Herndon and losses to Oakton, Potomac Falls and Eastern DC.

No. It only makes sense. It discourages teams from padding their schedules with pushovers to go 10-0. The PowerPoints system is not perfect by any means but it is a nice compromise that at least recognizes strength of schedule.

Falls Church (#12 seed with 7-3 record) and Briar Woods (#8 seed with 4-6 record) played one common opponent.

Briar Woods was leading Potomac Falls by 14 at halftime before falling in OT.

Falls Church got pole axed by Pot Falls by 32.

Point system is as fair a system as you can have considering the disparity in schedule and district strength.

Briar Woods. Only reason is cause of their tough schedule and the win over Westfield.

Apparently Westfield has the 3rd most playoff wins since 1970. Impressive considering they were built in 2001.

Technically 2000 but who is checking? And that is 3rd most in the 703 area code not in the state or anything.

But a little trivia: Coach Simmons (15-4) has more playoff wins in his first five seasons than Coach Verbanic (12-7) had in his 11 years coaching at Westfield.
Verbanic was 1-and-done four times. In fact, the only playoffs he ever won more than 1 game was the two state championship runs in 2003 and 2007.

At least graassfield is a 6A school, unlike the 7 3A, 4A and 5A teams they play. So they've got that going for them. I guess.

91 game winning streak over much smaller schools isn't exactly something to crow about.

VHSL POWERPOINTS

SMITH = 35.3333

LB = 34.40000

So dispite the SouthEastern District having a large mix of 3A to 6A schools, SMITH was able to build more power points than Northern VA schools that have districts with almost all 6A schools? What does that tell you about 757 Football? To me it says our small schools would still be very competitive against the much larger schools.

Additionally, between the 804 & 757, the 6A South brackets have no teams with a losing record.

All I've read on this thread throughout 2016 is how Northern VA 6A football is down vs years past. The numbers from VHSL Reference also reflect the same. I would have to say that without the influences of Ocean Lakes recruiting kids, the 757 Southside is VERY Competitive. The smaller SouthEastern District schools will win multiple playoff games same as they did last year.

What Northern VA has to worry about, is that SMITH has only allowed 73 points against their 9 VHSL opponents, they've gotten bigger on both the OL/DL & Shon Mitchell has caught fire the 2nd half of the season along with having an improved run game vs 2015. Oh, and Smith had only 1 one starter that transferred out (3 All Region/ Div I players left before the 2015 even started) and NONE transferred IN..

Additionally, Woodside, Grassfield, Cox, Manchester, Tallwood, Bayside and Colonial Forge all have only a couple of losses and would be capable of representing the 6A South Region. But the Ocean Lakes saga is OVER, DONE they didn't make the playoffs. So, despite Centreville's legitimate complaint about the 2014 Championship, moving forward the cheating excuses are just weak and pathetic!

I disagree with you. The size of a school doesn't even rank in the top 5 factors that make a great football program in my opinion. Just like I don't like the Loudoun powers pretending that a crappy 6A football program is somehow advantaged because of a higher student enrollment - I don't think it is right to dismiss Oscar Smith's success against smaller schools solely because they are smaller. If they are playing loser 3-4-5A schools then you have an argument.

And I don't think it is deniable that 6A North is having an off year.

Multiple factors can play into how big a team can grow their power points. If they play in a large conference they can only accumulate so many rider wins. In an 8 team conference, the total win/loss inside the conference is going to be 28-28. Smaller conferences are able to schedule opponents that will get a lot of wins. Either because they good, or because they play weak opponents and will rack up easy wins. I would not compare north/south, it's meaningless.

OS power points are based on 9 games. If you factor in the game they lost it might be a little less.

One thing for sure that is positive in our area, without Ocean Lakes influencing the Beach Dristrict, there is near parody and overall better football IMO. There simply aren't any cakewalk early matchups down here this year. The Richmond bracket seems easier again this year. Pretty sure each sectional will crossbracket for the regional Semi-Finals

I used to be a cheerleading coach, but figured I might as well jump in and make my selections. I have been picking at over 85% this year, so you can count on these selections. In fact, if I don't go 6-2 against Steve's points, I will go the the Springfield Mall on Saturday at noon and take a walk in the parking lot topless!

16 Robinson @ 1 Lake Braddock (-10.0) Braddock covers

15 Washington-Lee @ 2 Madison (-21.0) Madison covers

14 Woodson @ 3 Westfield (-28.0) Westfield covers

13 Oakton @ 4 South Lakes (-14.0) South Lakes covers

12 Mount Vernon @ 5 Centreville (-24.0) Centreville covers

11 Battlefield @ 6 South County (-14.0) South County covers

10 TC Williams @ 7 West Potomac (-20.0) West Potomac covers

9 Patriot @ 8 Hayfield (-10.0) Hayfield covers

See how easy that was!

You do not really understand how the power points work. If you play lower division schools you get an added 2 points per classification as a bonus for playing that school. Example: 6A plays a 4A and wins. They get 22 points for the win over a 4A team, plus 4 bonus points for playing a 4A. That keeps it fair for the 6A team otherwise Smith would never get the same point totals simple because they play in a district with mostly non-6A schools (and then you have to add in bonus points for each win the 4A team had, but that is not part of this issue).

The reason Smith outpointed LB in your example is simply because LB lost a game; it could also be because the opponents combined wins for Smith was slightly higher. It has zero to do with the quality of the lower classification teams other than for their wins, and with Smith playing (what, 9?) conference games their opponents in conference will have very close to a .500 record at the end of the day. The only way you can gain an advantage is if a team plays a bunch of out of district teams with good records and beats them.

Does anyone in the northern region have a dominant defense this year? I always say defense wins in the playoffs (see Westfield last season), but other than maybe Stone Bridge and Madison it looks like there are no defenses around that can stop or even slow down the best offenses. I mean Lake Braddock has given up nothing this year but SoCo just put 44 on them last week.

A healthy Westfield team is very potent on D. Shut down Centreville & shutdown SOCO. But sample size is too small. Besides, great offense will always beat great defense.
