You guys take this way too seriously for an area/region that couldn't produce a school with a national ranking or honorable mention even if their lives depended on it.

Hmmm, guess you weren't paying attention when Westfield was nationally ranked after winning the state championship 12/21/15, rank was #23.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Well there is some, see attached article to see where top recruits come from, Virginia ranked 10th.

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2015/4/15/8143431/states-most-players-recruits

We also know that all recruits don't always live up to the hype. Sports Illustrated ran an article a couple years ago, focus was how overblown recruit rankings can be. They compared the list of the top 10 recruits entering college from high school compared to 4 years later on the top 10 players graduating. Not one single player coming out was on the list, as a matter of fact I didn't recognize the name of any of the kids from the high school list.

The term legacy was merely referring to a local program that has gone 166-39 and won 3 state titles in the 17 years it's existed. Not bad especially since they play at the 6A level which has some decent programs throughout the state.

Freshman squad is actually decent considering their star freshman plays JV and Varsity. JV is struggling cause of lack of depth on varsity. There have been years much worse than this as a whole and Westfield has managed to rebound. On top of that they have a great youth program.

I'm trying to understand you but I can't. Is your argument that unless you have a nationally ranked program there is no point in supporting it or paying attention to it? Only Top 25 programs are allowed to support their teams? No one is forcing you to read this thread. Or comment on it. And why are you taking our thread so seriously yourself? Why does it bother you so much?

A stellar performance so far by the hawks. Honestly could've been 28-7 if not and why for two honestly pretty lame callbacks, BUT if Hyfield is the rel deal they come back out, redeem the missing points and add more.

Waiting for the 2nd half, and it's quaint. Losing your first game on homecoming...

Just leaving the SL-Hayfield game and boy was SL exposed a bit. Hayfield did what they wanted too and the controlled the game much more than the score indicated.
Hayfield will be a threat to anyone in the playoffs. I see SL getting out of the first round but not going much further.

Thought they broke ties...may be wrong...otherwise all the "hawks" will share the Liberty title if Madison beats Hayfield...Hayfield wins it's theirs. Madison defense was being shredded by W-L's pass happy offense, saved and undone by turnovers they can't allow vs. Hayfield to win.

If that's the case... then by golly Hayfield would eat'em whole. Hayfield's passing game is far superior, and can run the ball efficiently when necessary. Of course I'm sure everyone in the region knows this and usually makes adjustment, and it's a little early to say, but I'ma give it to Hayfield 7/10 games.

Chantilly @ Centreville (-25.0)
*Centreville won 49-21.

Fairfax (-1.0) @ McLean
*McLean won 28-20. I saw McLean play and for Fairfax to lose, wow. An 0-10 season which is hard to fathom at a school that size with its facilities and demographics.

Hayfield @ South Lakes (-6.0)
*Hayfield won 38-28, Liberty is rough to me tonight. I am not surprised though, Hayfield can win the conference next week against a Madison, what a game that should be.

TJ @ Wakefield (-34.0)
*Wakefield won 57-6. Jefferson really could lose by close to 100 against a quality opponent. I respect guys that commit to playing football though, kudos to them.

Langley (-3.0) @ Yorktown
*Yorktown won 21-20, 0 for 3 in the Liberty picks tonight, damn.

Lee (-20.0) @ Edison
*Lee won 36-26.

Mount Vernon @ Lake Braddock (-28.0)
*Lake Braddock won 65-0, up 57-0 at halftime. Enjoy the postseason Majors.

Oakton (-7.0) @ Falls Church
*Oakton won 43-36, finally nailed one. Falls Church put up a good fight and continues to have a respectable program.

Robinson @ Broad Run (-3.0)
*Broad Run won 28-7. It pains me to say this, but Loudoun has Fairfax’s number this year. A real down year for the county.

South County (-10.0) @ West Potomac
*West Potomac won 24-21. This one really surprised me. I was about ready to jump on the Stallion bandwagon and pick them for a region run. I really have no idea at this point.

Washington-Lee @ Madison (-40.0)
*Madison won 34-17, W&L gave them a good game. I think with injuries this conference is Hayfield’s to lose next week.

Woodson (-3.5) @ West Springfield
*Woodson won 34-23. I must say I am very surprised West Springfield is a 1 win football team, I did not expect such a big falloff this year.

Westfield (-37.0) @ Herndon
*Westfield won 48-7. Not so much for this score, but I think I am picking the Bulldogs to win the region at this point.

I was at SoCo V WP game. In the first half WP wr #5 got open in end zone on deep crosses and scored 3 tds. He is a good player. SoCo seemed to fix coverage at half. SoCo offense was great last night except in the redzone They had almost 500 yds of offense but had several drives stall in Redzone. SoCo uptempo had 98 plays 235 passing 255 rushing per Wash Post. SoCo #25 had over 100 rushing 1 TD and had 55 receiving and 1 score 1 TD. Program shows him as a sophomore That kid is a beast.

Let's face it... The smaller schools in Loudoun have pretty much owned the bigger Fairfax powerhouses over the past two years. The Fairfax coaches that had to play them are thrilled as hell that they are going away and won't have to worry about them for the next cycle.

Some things to take away from last night...

Falls Church totally exposed, as they couldn't even beat a team in Oakton that basically gave up last week.

Robinson also looks ready to pack it in. No fight at all last night from a once-proud program. They were owned last night by a team they beat just last year.

Hayfield is as good as anyone in the area. However, with the playoffs often comes the elements. Not sure how their passing game looks three or four weeks from now.

Will South County ever win the region? If they don't pull it off this year, don't see them getting by South Lakes, for example, next year.

Nice story in Mt. Vernon was trashed last night. Completely. Don't see a bounce back this time.

Chantilly gave up 49 to Centreville? Oy vey! Have their demographics changed drastically or something? What has happened to these guys?

Lee just might sneak into the 5A playoffs. Unfortunately, low seed means quality opponent in the first round. Still, nice story for those kids.

How long does Thomas Jefferson field a team? I know they don't want to give up, but these kids are not made to play football. They don't come for the sports anymore!

And don't forget the most important take away....Westfield is the region's powerhouse team. Can anyone even be expected to score against them going forward? I think the consensus answer is, "No, they can't."

If Hay beats Mad, and SOCO beats LB, Westfield and CVille may bump up, but Westfield at this point cannot be #1, and CVille would be lucky to break the top 4. If Hayfield beats Madison, then I'm sure they'll snag #2 due to power points and #1 would be LB if wins is ... but if SOCO wins... then we have another shuffle of the deck. But concord really has no shot of being #1

Here are the power points of week 9 ...

T.C. Williams/Annandale game Saturday outstanding.

Winner of Lake Braddock/South County game next week will secure #1 spot. Hayfield has inside track to #2 if they beat Madison next week. Those are really the only rank changing games; I suppose towards the bottom YT or W&L might battle it out for the bottom seed if the current bottom ones' games go in their favor.

Falls Church was exposed when they lost to Eastern of DC in the opening game. A close loss to Oakton is a good result for Falls Church, even if it's a bad Oakton team. Last year it was 41-7.

Sad, they looked like they had potential at the start of the season. Have to give them credit for a tough non-district schedule.

They won the region a couple years ago in Division 5. Last year was the first year they were a real contender in 6A.

Chantilly is mediocre historically, their run of being above average from 2006-2010 was an aberration.

No surprise that they are doing well in district play.

It looks really bad there. Only takes a couple good players to turn things around in that district though. Just a few years ago they were making the playoffs.

If SL loses... I highly doubt that anyways, Westfield beats Chantilly, a team that would probably give them fractions of a point with SL losing to Fairfax and I guess Hayfield losing as well to bring them down. The most plausible ranking for them is #4, but could be #3 if SOCO beats LB.

Dip sh** it is not a paid site if you go to the message boards. But no one has posted 5A power points on Preps yet. VHSL (FREE) will have the official power points release on Tuesday, just like they always do. The guys posting on Preps put up the power points because they like to.

Who is Jacob Keeney? Though, I'm a Loudon guy I decided to take a lil' curiosity search of them because of their big win... and beating my local team early in the season (Tuscarora). He has hella stats for everything. How does he look on his own in game, and how do you think he compares to everyone's favorite, McDaniels- Or was it the other one?

No specific order: SOCO, West Po, Hayfield, Westfield, Centreville, South Lakes, Madison, Lake Braddock, Battlefield, TC Williams, Mt Vernon, Robinson, Patriot, Oakton, and possibly between Yorktown and Washington Lee.

Wasn't rocket science, the first 12 are pretty damn obvious.

Look at who the Concorde has had to play in the non-conference. I'm not honing to say the Concorde is better, but their non-conference schedules are much more challenging than most of the others. All three of those Concorde teams played two really good Loudoun County teams and a top team from the Patriot. That's at least three tough non-conference games for each.

That is true, but Madison > Stone Bridge, South Lakes > Briar Woods, and Hayfield > Tuscarora; kind of throws out that excuse that "LoCo is tough" (or maybe Lib trio is better). And in cessation, I'm not saying Liberty is better, but besides Centreville and Westfield who are clearly both not in pristine condition who else in Concorde is good enough to beat any powerhouse team? Robinson? Hyped died with their performance, Oakton? Well, they seem like a good national district team...

Keep in mind that Concorde is the 2nd smallest conference in 6A north with only 6 teams while Patriot and Liberty have 8. So they will have more, and this is by a simple W/L, not "whose better by and so because of close scores or shutouts". I mean shoot, having tough schedules before never really slowed'em down.

I honestly feel bad for LoCo now that I think about it. Tuscarora hasn't made it in VHSL TOP 40 since beating Centreville, who comfortably sits at #10. And while Stone Bridge is at 18, Westfield sits like a battered queen in #3.

And Hayfield and West Po (once they update it) might finally break 15...

I understand where you are coming from and you have a really good point. However the rankings are in part based on how tough the conferences are and that's really hard to determine. Since Concorde has pretty much owned the region for the last 15 years their teams will receive the benefit of the doubt. That might change one day but probably not anytime soon as Westfield and Centreville have been very consistent programs for the last 15ish years. Keep in mind, I'm not saying that they are gonna be contenders year in and year out but they are both teams that atleast for the foreseeable future look like they can challenge anyone.

As others have pointed out VHSL Reference rankings are based solely on computer algorithms and have nothing to do with perceived strength of conferences. In fact, if you look at VHSL Reference Conference rankings their formulas rank the Potomac Conference 14 as #1 in the state. The rankings are not biased by personal opinions. Also, the ratings have not been updated to reflect the games this weekend. Loudoun teams are being ranked appropriately for VHSL Reference. It's not official anyway - just a popular ratings index.

I was at the Chantilly-Centreville game this weekend and I thought Corey Thomas was the best player on the field. Showed strength and speed and good technique. Centreville held him in check at times but he made a few good plays and was faster than I thought outrunning the CVILLe backfield a few times. I think he finished with about 7 receptions and 2 TDs.

Isaiah Culver of Centreville also had a nice game including another spectacular diving catch at the goal line. Check it at 0:42

Chantilly only dressed 39 for this game. Wow. A school with over 2700 kids.

Corey if you lobbied Lalli as hard as you lobbied this board he might fight a little harder for you..not likely however I will agree you liked pretty good running through a porous Secondary.

And as far as Isiah is concerned...he should take your entire Team out to Dinner Corey, you guys made an undersized, better than average player look like a superstar...

And Culver has done it before - almost identical play against LB. C'mon - those are some nice catches.

I went to the VA preps site, and this looks like it was updated to give Yorktown one additional point to put then at 219 and 17th place. It also looks like it reflects the results of the Annandale/TCW game on Saturday.

Regarding the bubble playoff teams, it looks like Robo, and everyone above Robo in the standings are in, but with seeding TBD. It also looks like West Springfield, and everyone below West Springfield is eliminated. That means the bubble teams are Woodson (playing TCW this week) Annandale (playing West Springfield) Chantilly (playing Westfield) and W-L and Yorktown, who are playing each other. I would expect all bubble teams to be underdogs in their games this weekend, with the possible exception of Annandale, but even there, I have trouble believing that West Springfield is as bad as their record. Therefore, much like last year, it looks like WL v. Yorktown is an elimination game; the loser is out. However, both teams are outside, so the winner isn't guaranteed a spot. If two of Chantilly, Woodson, and Annandale win, even the winner of WL/Yorktown is eliminated.

Wow is right. It definitely has been a long and painful season for Fairfax.

I was at the game on Friday. For two winless teams, it was an entertaining game to watch if you were totally neutral and were just looking for an exciting football game to watch. I'll offer up a summary and some observations. I would point out that McLean didn't take a lead until 1 07 left in the fourth quarter.

Both teams traded possessions in the first quarter. McLean mounted a drive late in the first quarter that ended in a missed field goal. On Fairfax's ensuing possession, Fairfax got their first touchdown on an 83 yard QB scramble on 3rd and 13. In the second quarter, after a trade of punts, Fairfax took over at their 35 and mounted a 65 yard TD drive to go up 14-0 with about 3 minutes left in the second quarter. At that point, Fairfax gave up an 80 yard TD drive to McLean. Fairfax gave up several big plays on that drive. Choking late in the second quarter has been a big problem for Fairfax this season. Halftime score: Fairfax 14, McLean 7.

McLean got the ball to start the second half, and they mounted a TD drive that took bout 5 minutes. They tied the score at 14 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Fairfax was three and out on the next possession. On Mclean's next possession, they threw an inception that Fairfax returned to the McLean 25. Fairfax scored on a 13 yard QB scramble, but bobbled the snap on the Extra point. Score Fairfax 20, McLean 14. McLean was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the TD, which meant Fairfax kicked off from the McLean 45. Despite this, Fairfax passed on an on-side kick, kicked it deep. McLean punted after getting one first down. Fairfax's next drive ended with an interception in the endzone at the end of the third quarter.

McLean went three and out on their first possession of the 4th quarter. On that possession, Fairfax dropped an interception. Fairfax took over on their 36, drove to the Mclean 14, where the drive stalled. Fairfax attempted a field goal, which was blocked. The ball rolled to the one yard line. It looked like Mclean touched the ball, which made it live. They didn't lose possession, but because of that, they took over on the 1, rather than the 20. At this point, three minutes were left in the game. McLean mounted a 99 yard TD drive to score a TD with 1 07 left to go up 21-20. Fairfax took over on the ensuing kickoff. The first play from scrimmage was a gadget play that took Fairfax down to the McLean 19. The drive stalled at the McLean 10, and on 4th and one, with 17 seconds left and as I recall, one time out, Fairfax sent in the FG unit. The FG attempt was blocked and ran back by Mclean for their final TD.

Although the final TD drive was impressive, there were two officiating mistakes that helped McLean on that final drive. At about 1 30 left, McLean had 3rd and 8 on the Fairfax 42. Mclean completed a pass into the left flat at about the first down marker. The Mclean receiver slipped two tackles, but after the second tackle was slipped, lost possession of the ball. He ran out of bounds, and came back in at the Fairfax 28 to recover his own fumble, and further advance the ball to about the 20. There should have been a 15 yard penalty for illegal touching called at that point. On the next play, there was a highly questionable pass interference call against Fairfax's defense, that gave McLean first and goal. Even with those officiating mistakes, Fairfax didn't have to get to this point if they played better defense on that drive. On the first play, with McLean at the one, they played a three man defensive front, with the LBs and secondary in soft coverage. As a result, there was no contain on the left side, and the QB scrambled 13 yards for a first down. Fairfax should have brought pressure. They had decent pressure on McLean's O line for much of a night, and a safety scored in that situation would have iced the game.

I do have one additional observation. McLean's students should be ashamed of themselves. After the game, they stormed the field, and thereby prevented the post game handshake. Fairfax waited for about 5 minutes to see if the students would clear the field to allow the players to do the right thing. After it was clear that wouldn't happened, the Fairfax team left. McLean is one of the richest suburbs in the DC area, but I guess no amount of money can buy you class.

We know that West Springfield has been a major dissapointment, but they're in Patriot as well... anyways, not a surprise for me at least. It's been like this quite recently (swapping out Mt Vernon with West Springfield though).

And now that you talk about that, I would say it sucks for the hawk Liberty triumvirate to be in such a weak conference... I suppose it throws them off a little bit once playoffs begin. I mean, they all do play each other in the last few weeks though.

Imagine what it's like for Battlefield.... shittiest of the shit teams in a midget conference that combined record is 14 of 28... Take out Battle field alone and it's 7 of 26

Not true. It looks like West Springfield is too far back in the standings to catch up. To get seven out of eight, both Annandale and Woodson have to win on Friday, and hope that Chantilly doesn't win. They also have to hope that the WL - Yorktown winner doesn't leap over them in points. Woodson would get a lot of points by beating TCW on Friday, but Annandale not so much with a win.

Go to The Battle of Chantilly. One of the most heated rivalries in the area. The games aren't that good anymore tho. So if you want a great atmosphere go to WF-Tilly. If you want a good game you can't go wrong with either of those 3. Speaking of which, what happen to Chantilly?

WF-CH has historically been a good game true. But I have seen both teams play already this year and I like to keep mixing it up with new teams every weekend. Hayfield and Lake Braddock are really the only top teams I haven't seen in person yet so that is what is making it difficult.

Why do you wait to see these two teams so late?!?! I'm sure there's a reason...

Anyways, LB and SOCO has been intense due to their rivalry and conference standings. Same can't really be said of Mad and Hay being "rivals", nonetheless, I'm for sure checking out the SOCO LB game, I saw Hay last week, and I admit I was impressed with their offensive talent and defensive improvement. Hell, the first game I saw of Hay was SOCO and Hay.

Then ride to Leesburg and get a look at the number one player (not prospect... I said player!) in the state with two of the best lineman in the region as they seek to win their district championship in the highest ranked district in the state.

They play at the team that beat them last year for the district championship 43-42 with probably the best coach in the state. The hosts are 24-5 during the last three regular seasons and have an all-region lineman of their own.

Didnt expect much from either - I know that neither will make it far in playoffs, but to improve this quick is impressive - the new district with Annandale, Hayfield, Mt. Vernon, TC, and West Po will be interesting

Then ride to Leesburg and get a look at the number one player (not prospect... I said player!) in the state with two of the best lineman in the region as they seek to win their district championship in the highest ranked district in the state.

Well, if you go by Rivals, they list the top 45 players in Virginia, Hembry is not on it. I take those listings tongue in cheek, since there is a player ranked 45th that attends a rival school that I think is not as talented as Hembry. Look I get it, you love the kid and that's great, but he's definitely not the best player in the state. That title goes to Khalan Laborn of Bishop Sullivan, ranked #1 in Virginia and #41 in the nation. That's why he's going to FSU, 1 out of 24 or so big-time programs who sought out his athletic ability.

Oh yeah Bishop Sullivan, where all the Ocean Lakes cheaters went because of all the public school violations.

Rivals...hmmm lets see, so if you don't PIMP your KID out and spend countless dollars at camps, your athlete is not good....Hembry does not need a list to be Good. He is the Top Player in the Northern Region and one of the Best in the State...Take Rivals and Wipe your, well lets just say, There are Plenty of J.J. Watts and Clay Mathews out there, Hembry a punishing Runner, who is even more physical on the defensive side of the Ball is the Real Deal and will probably give Florida State an Ass-Whooping one day...count on it someone is getting a phenomenal player at a bargain!

Here are the rankings going into the final week.

1. Lake Braddock (32.78)
2. South Lakes (31.56)
3. South County (31.56)
4. Westfield (31.44)
5. Madison (30.89)
6. Hayfield (30.78)
7. Centreville (30.44)
8. West Potomac (29.44)
9. TCW (28.11)
10. Battlefield (27.89)
11. Mount Vernon (26.56)
12. Patriot (26.44)
13. Oakton (25.56)
14. Robinson (25.11)
15. Woodson (24.56)
16. Annandale (24.44)
-------------
17. Yorktown (24.44)
18. Chantilly (24.22)
19. W-L (24.22)
20. West Springfield (21.44)

As you can see, a lot of movement can still happen. I think Oakton and probably Robinson stay in. Chantilly needs Woodson and Annandale to lose, but at the same time if they win it boosts Woodson.
