Actually, according to VHSL reference, LB has the best defense statistically in the northern region. Cville is tied with Westfield for 2nd. I know Westfield was missing a starter or two - which would factor into the stats, but so has pretty much everyone else.

Check out Broad Run's defensive stats, against a decent schedule. Least amount of points in entire area...

How do you have south county scoring 44 on Braddock but failed to list how they gave up 52? Great job by broad run giving up 21 to Centreville, Lake Braddock allowed 8 points against them...Bruin defense has 12 shutouts over the last 3 years.

STFU as has been explained multiple times, in extensive detail, Football is the only sport in FCPS that is self supporting and in fact makes a profit at most schools, which is used to support the rest of the money losing sports.

I don't have a horse in this race, but we are not talking about a single game here, bro. Lake Braddock's schedule was full of absolute garbage. Do you think Braddock holds Stone Bridge to 7 points? No, neither does anyone else with a pulse. Seriously, Braddock had a very easy path. And we are not going back and counting shutouts over the past three years - we are talking about defenses THIS year in NOVA. With that being said, Braddock and Broad Run both have outstanding defenses, as does Stone Bridge and Centreville.

911 called and ambulance arrives to South County High School this week to save a football player brutally beaten by his teammate in locker room. Student was found in a pool of blood, skull cracked open and seizing on the ground. Sounds like your typical Pannoni culture.

That is a lot of shutouts. Checking back - that is over 4 seasons. Only 1 of them was against a team with a winning record. Four against Woodson. Ouch.

It is true, however, one point that you have missed is that in addition to being selfish, self centered and lacking judgment the School Board's liberal majority is vindictive. For that reason and other Title IX reasons (equal participation with large football squads) do not rule it out! Fairfax County royally screwed up last year by not throwing their collective asses out on the street when they had the opportunity!

(sigh)

It is called the Washington Monument Syndrome. When forced to make cuts, governments will cut popular things. FCPS won't cut the leadership conference, as no one really knows what that it. Oh, but football, everyone knows what that is!

When people say "why did you cut football" FCPS will say "well we were millions and millions in the hole, something had to go, sure wish that meals tax had passed" and there you go.

It is the same reason the libraries have been cut-doing so stirs people up. Now that FCPS' budgetary ass is in the sling, watch for crazy shit to happen!

Football will be the target because it will provoke the biggest reaction. No one would care if they stopped teaching "media in society" but oh dear God will they scream when football goes away and the stadiums are dark on Friday nights. Maybe just maybe the residents will decide that if they have to decide between FCPS administration and football, they'll pick FCPS administration!

FCPS said ELIMINATING sports and activities would save $11 and $12 million respectively for a total of $23 million.

FCPS spent $2.6 BILLION in FY 2015-2016. Eliminating sports and activities would save LESS THAN 1% of the total budget.

What would even be the point? Obviously, sports and activities are not the problem.

Ffx public schools cost to educate 1 - pupil $14,432 per year

"Dreamers" estimated in FCPS 8,000

$14432 x 8000= $115,456,000

SOCO will have the new guy at QB the whole game, saw him a couple of times this season, he's pretty impressive. Westfield on the other, will be a lot healthier than they were week 2. It will be a much closer game than the last one (the score is misleading). I know I might be a bit biased but this Westfield team as well as Coach Simmons are too good to lose this early in the post season. They've just been on fire recently, the competition hasn't exactly been tough these past 4 weeks but they've been up by atleast 35 points in all their games before putting in the back ups. In a sense, they've looked like the team that we thought they would be. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if SOCO won but both these teams seem to be going in different directions, and on top of that there's no arguing which team is better coached, more disciplined, and more experienced.

I used to be a cheerleading coach, but figured I might as well jump in and make my selections. I have been picking at over 85% this year, so you can count on these selections. In fact, if I don't go 6-2 against Steve's points, I will go the the Springfield Mall on Saturday at noon and take a walk in the parking lot topless!

16 Robinson @ 1 Lake Braddock (-10.0) Braddock covers

15 Washington-Lee @ 2 Madison (-21.0) Madison covers

14 Woodson @ 3 Westfield (-28.0) Westfield covers

13 Oakton @ 4 South Lakes (-14.0) South Lakes covers

12 Mount Vernon @ 5 Centreville (-24.0) Centreville covers

11 Battlefield @ 6 South County (-14.0) South County covers

10 TC Williams @ 7 West Potomac (-20.0) West Potomac covers

9 Patriot @ 8 Hayfield (-10.0) Hayfield covers

6-2 when you count the pointspreads - 8-0 picking the winners!

Not bad for a girl. Guess you will have to wait until next week to see these beautiful breasts!

I used to go to South County. The prison mentality is definitely there but it doesn't go past mentality. Most of the kids who were there were and more than likely still are complete pussies. Even the Hayfield kids who were there were faggots. They were kids who probably got beat up at Hayfield a lot so they switched to South County in hopes of saving their pussy asses. It was pathetic and it's probably even more pathetic now. South County is a joke if I ever knew one.

Expect them to CANCEL FOOTBALL in retaliation for the support the meals tax did not get.

You pretty much summed it up - Westfield is playing as well as they have all season and they are as healthy as they have been all season. But I'll be honest - the SoCo QB is is on another level compared to any QB they have played against this year. It should be a good one. When I look at the final 8 teams it would not shock me if any of them made it to the regional finals.

Pannoni is telling his players not open their mouths about the player getting jumped and beaten in the locker room last week because they will get him fired. Spoken like a true leader right there.

It was 2 fat-Ass lineman wrestling around in the locker room at South County. Both guys fighting were backups, scout teamers. Pannoni is going nowhere. Salisbury left because he sucked and the other guys was better. He couldn't handle it. Honor does't equal quitting on your team and friends. Who was hurt for Westfield in game one? McDaniel only playing 2 quarters and putting up 14 scares the shit out of them.

Two massive starting O-lineman and the better of the two starting RB's. They have a huge line and after watching SOCO's D-line get pushed around by LB it's the Stallions who might be concerned. Also, the QB for WF was what, 1-14 in the first go round. He's been pretty hot down the stretch since they condensed the playbook. Oh yeah, don't think Delaney will miss 3 FG's either this time around. WF won't be afraid, they'll be well prepared and well coached as they've always been under Simmons and crew.....

Your lines are as follow:

Hayfield @ Braddock (-6)
Centreville @ South Lakes (-11)
South County (-1) @ Westfield
West Potomac (-5) @ Madison

If any Region Team can keep up with LB it's Hayfields Aerial Attack, a little better Defense and Hayfield Takes it.

Facing one of the most Athletic Teams in the Region Centreville will need an error free game to keep it Close.

We will see how much "inside" information aides Soco against a Rising Westfield

Madison is almost out of Gas..26 against W&L won't work this week.

My predictions

Lake Braddock 42
Hayfield 27

Hayfield hangs in early but I just think Lake Braddock wears them out late. Hayfield's defense hasn't been that great all season.

Centreville 35
South Lakes 22

SL has had one of the easiest paths in recent memory. Very good team but not ready for the big leagues. They were handled by hayfield and the only credible wins were against Briar Woods and Madison in which both teams were missing several key players.

Westfield 35
South County 12

The Westfield train is rolling at the right time and I expect them to take care of business.

West Potomac 21
Madison 14

This is my upset pick of the week. I think West Po is a very live dog to win the entire region.

Cuts to football will be raised as a possibility because it creates press which is one thing that the School Board craves, particularly when they can use it to publicize their so called plight. The problem is that it will go no further than that because they ALL know that to make dramatic cuts to athletics would not only mean the end of their current position but the end of their political career. Also, football is for the most part is self supporting and is the foundation for most of the school's fund raising campaigns that support all athletics.

no because it is false

they think selling popcorn covers the costs

take the 15 million cuts and add all personnel surrounding sports, facilities, insurances....sell the facilities to a private sports league and you are looking are 100 million+ cut in expenses + additional income from the private sector wanting to build these sports leagues and offering a % of their profits to the schools

No - I do understand your argument and you have a point. But you are in a tiny minority who think this way. You fail to understand that most people realize that there are additional costs - but they want they want sports and activities in high school. There are many social benefits to having athletics associated with schools. It is the American way and has been that way for well over 100 years. In general, we are not "getting crushed" by the world. That is a stupid statement. And the schools that are failing us are not that way because of athletics and no amount of money would fix the problem anyway.

And as an aside, I was talking to some foreign exchange students about this very issue in the last month - they love the American school club/sports/activity scene. It is much more egalitarian than in other countries where only wealthy people get to be involved in sports and activities, and it makes high school a much more enjoyable and varied experience. To a person they all said they wish their countries did it the way the USA does it.

Bottom line is only an anti-American Communist would try to eliminate sports from high school.

Football is elitist. What % of students actually play it? These massive facilities (specifically, turf fields) exist for the benefit of these privileged, entitled few.

If you want to save football, and other high school activities, get out your checkbook, you're going to start to have paying for them.

Ummm... No.

sports are no more dragging down our shitty academic performance as is band or theater. It's crap like common core, social engineering, non-English speaking 3rd worlders flooding our systems, teaching to the lowest common denominator, schools becoming babysitters, one parent households and the basic breakdown of our overall society that is causing our schools to suck. Public schools reflect their communities and most of our communities suck compared to 30 years ago. Sorry, it's just science.

In the US 55-63% of students participate in school sports depending on their grade level. Of all the things that schools do after school sports and activities are by far the most cost effective. More than half of the kids are involved and they are much less expensive than any elective class or non-mandated course. If you really want to save money cut the HS from 7 classes to 6. Cutting sports won't solve any long term budget issues.

In one of the articles listed below you will see that 55% of High School students participate in sports! Whether you like sports or not they are an extremely important part of High School.

Just stop talking about things you know nothing about. The sports facilities at most schools are being used practically 24-7 by a huge variety of local sports associations and clubs many of whom where involved in helping to pay for them (i.e. the turf fields).

To answer your question there about 14,000 high school football teams in the USA with approximately 1 million kids. Rough numbers. What difference does that make any way? You really don't know anything about the players either if you think it is an elitist sport. They come from all communities and neighborhoods rich and poor.

It didn't look so horrible live, the QB was obviously throwing it away to avoid a sack in the end zone. No he wasn't outside the tackle box and no there wasn't anyone for either team close to where he threw it.

21 was no where near the pass. It was thrown near ineligible 66, but no eligible players within 20 yards.

There may be a case for the QB not being in the end zone though.

And "was there too" was right, Centreville lined up for 2 with 12 players on the field. There were no delay penalties called in the game.

Refs were horrendous in the SL cville game. Bad calls on both sides. Notable bad calls: Cville throws a bubble behind the line of scrimmage. Clearly two yards behind the receiver. South lakes picked it up and would have scored easily but the refs blew it dead. Took a TD away from SL. Also, it was intentional grounding but he was not in the end zone so it should not have been a safety. At least it was bad for both teams. Many more bad spots and missed calls all through the game. Very frustrating as a neutral fan. That crew was horrible.
