Haddock went to 3 state finals and won 90% of his games in a 9 year period. If you don’t respect that your opinion on football is worthless.

I still believe Aidan Dash is the best quarterback in the patriot and arguably all of the county. You guys have yet to make an argument proving me otherwise.
As for the rest of the Woodson team, I must admit that I was wrong. I have ran out of excuses for them. They have a lot to do if they want to be competitive again. I’d start by benching Tyson Chong this week and giving some of the younger guys experience to bring into next year.

His scheme kept him from winning more than 1 state title with all the talent that he had. If you can’t acknowledge that then you have low standards and don’t know football and should stay at the youth level because that’s what he ran, youth level football.

Haddock ran a high school offense with a half dozen college players and won 90% of his games. Sheilds has run a college offense with high school players and one 50% of his games. You tell me who’s the fool?

Haddock sucked. He ran around trying to be the old Chantilly coach. A drunk could have rolled out a ball and won. Could you win with an SEC tail, an NFL OT, a Cincy RB and a JMU DB? Simmons ain't no genius either. He won with kids who now play at MSU, Auburn, and Wake. When they don't have those kids they are very average.

The real question is who wins without those guys? I'd say the guy at Madison. The coach at Ffx has won everywhere. Of course, there are some guys like Doc LB who are loaded and still suck so....

Concerning Shields he is pushing to get the last kid thru while watching his older boys
He can't delegate because his staff is weak compared to WF and he doesn't want to do it anyway. Add the parents and hed be best to leave. That would leave the AD and Principal to choose a new coach with the standard panel of parents. Good luck with that

You are just a loudmouth fool. That's all. You put almost any other FCPS coach at Westfield the last two seasons and those teams win 2-3 games. He gets more out of his players than any head coach I've seen in the last 30 years. Nonetheless you are entitled to your ill-considered opinion. Honestly, you refuted your own argument.

Madison over the past 8 years has had the least amount of talent and hasn’t had a loosing season infact 8 straight playoffs. You tell me which coaching staff is the best, Simmons missing the playoffs or Madison’s down years which are a second round loss. Not to mention no SEC,ACC or BIG10 starters. They’re best players are D3 guys with the occasional D1 bench warmers that are PWO’s.

Madison has also benefitted from an overall decrease in team quality/talent the past decade or so. Yes, they have been quite good recently but they haven't won one yet.

What the coach is not doing now is coaching at FC. He is at Hayfield.

Counts is a great coach - definitely one of the best. Excellent staff. No need to start dragging coaches over covid season outlier.

Nothing is guaranteed. Hayfield freshmen went 8-1, doesn’t automatically mean it translates over to varsity

I actually watched a FC game, they suck… Plain and simple. They have one kid named Mustapha or something like that he is #9 or #11 I can’t remember but he was the only one making plays and he played defense

The offense was one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen but to be fair they have basically all sophomores and juniors on their team except for the Mustapha kid

What I meant was considering Yorktown is returning the majority of their team, is there a chance they are decent next year? I think they’ll be back too beating WNL again as well as winning the liberty district by next year but you never know

No. Most, if not all, of those states have spring football, year round school bases 7 on 7, and higher coaches salaries. There’s a lot more that goes into it, but start there. You may get a little better overall down around the beach, but for the most part VA is behind.

The Westfield-South Lakes game was another simply fantastic football game. 5 lead changes. It was a virtual repeat of the Westfield-Madison game right down to the final score (28-24), Westfield comes from behind to take a lead, runs a turtle offensive series in a failed attempt to get a first down and run out the clock, gives up a TD pass-and-run to a WR that breaks 4-5 tackles in the open field and sideline, and then a final failed Westfield offensive series. Deja Vu.

Lost 3 games this season by a combined total of 10 points.

Westfield left a bit on the table offensively in this game - I think they have a bit more available in a rematch. Just way to conservative in my opinion. The size differential I mentioned earlier in the week was a real factor in both this and the Madison losses.

Edison = TOTALLY OVERRATED FRAUDULENT TEAM

They scored on the opening kickoff to go up 7-0.....but were dominated for most of the game and were down 21-7 midway through the 4th quarter. They scored twice late to make it look closer but Mt. Vernon was the better team, by far.

The Eagles will easily be one and done in the postseason.

SoCo confuses me. They look like world beaters one week then a sloppy disaster the next. The offense had poor execution and constantly forces the ball into coverage. I can see them exiting the playoffs early against a lesser talented team if they don't tighten things up.

Fairfax vs. Edison is interesting?

Yawn.

Edison loaded up on National Dist. creampuffs this season and also had a pathetic non-district schedule. They are as soft as a roll of Charmin.

Fairfax should easily win by four touchdowns.

Probably a Hayfield fan or Coach, how did Hayfield do against Edison? Edison wins AGAIN Friday while Hayfield’s season FUCKING ENDS

If you’re a Patriot District team, there is nothing better than playing a National District team in the playoffs. Easy dub!! National District team could go undefeated and would still get bounced in the first playoff game.

How did Edison do against MV even though you had several transfers from them, West Po and TC? MV whipped your ass, a team that Hayfield blew out!

You almost have to feel bad for Edison. This is allegedly their best team in a generation.....yet they're still weak. The went ALL IN and recruited a bunch of players away from other schools but will still have nothing to show for it.

They got hammered by W-L, McLean (LOL), and Mount Vernon.

They feasted on the likes of Lewis, Falls Church, Wakefield, Annandale, Justice, etc., etc.

MV played Westfield, South Lakes, and Friendship this year. Hayfield played So. County and West Springfield. The Eagles out of district opponents were a joke.

I have no idea how they beat Hayfield.....the Hawks must have had a really bad night.

Anyone who actually watched the MV-Edison game would realize that the Eagles are a FRAUD.....and as soft as a roll of Quilted Northern.

The Hayfield/Edison game was 7-7 at halftime if I remember correctly and then Edison won the second half. Hayfield had some turnovers and allowed big plays on defense but the first half was even. Hayfield’s freshman and JV teams both finished 9-1 and they have a ton of sophomores and juniors coming back next year, just throwing that out there

1. Annandale @ Rock Ridge (-3)
- Rock Ridge won and covered, 27-13.

2. Edison (-24) @ Mount Vernon
- Mount Vernon pulls off the upset at home, 24-19. Big win for the Majors who made sure they would be playing in the post season.

3. Freedom-Woodbridge (-50) @ St. Michael the Archangel
- Freedom won 65-20, failing to cover for the first time this year.

4. Herndon (-8) @ Yorktown
- Another one I completely missed on, Yorktown won 14-3, securing a spot in the post season also.

5. Lake Braddock (-27) @ Robinson
- Lake Braddock won and covered, 37-7.

6. Lee @ Hayfield (-30)
- Hayfield blanks the Lancers, 55-0 and with Mount Vernon beating Edison, Hayfield won the National District title.

7. Madison (-24) @ Centreville
- Madison shut out the Wildcats, 38-0. I know Centreville fans are glad this nightmare of a season for them is over.

8. McLean (-6) @ Langley
- McLean won 12-7, failing to cover by 1 point. Sounds like this one was a good game.

9. Oakton @ Chantilly (-24)
- Chantilly won 31-12, finishing 5-5 and failing to make the playoffs. Maybe they improve next year?

10. Stone Bridge (-35) @ Riverside
- Stone Bridge won and covered, 51-7.

11. Stuart (-10) @ Falls Church
- Falls Church gets a win! And some points! They won 2-0, and no that is not a typo. JEB snapped the ball over the punter's head into the end zone for the only points and the Bell.

12. T.C. Williams @ Fairfax (-30)
- Fairfax won and covered, 49-14. T.C. finishes 0-10 for the first time in school history (?) Another fanbase who I'm sure is happy football season is over. I hear T.C. has a pretty good basketball team.

13. Wakefield @ Washington-Lee (-25)
- This one shocked me more than anything. Wakefield was winning at halftime. W&L dominated the 2nd half to win 41-21 but the game was closer than the score shows. W&L better wake up or they are in for a rude awakening in the playoffs. I will say this, shoutout to them for finishing 9-1 in the regular season for the first time since 1975 and winning the Liberty District.

14. West Potomac @ South County (-27)
- West Potomac came out swinging but it wasn't enough. No cover for the Stallions, but they get the win, 32-17.

15. West Springfield (-35) @ Woodson
- The Spartans blanked the Cavs, 48-0.

16. Westfield @ South Lakes (-3)
Game of the week and we couldn't even watch it, thanks a lot NFHS Network. What a shame as this was a back and forth game from what I saw on Maxpreps. South Lakes won 28-24. Was anybody at this game that can break it down? I was extremely pissed NFHS couldn't get it together for a big game like this one. Shame. On a positive note, shoutout to South Lakes for finishing 10-0 for the first time in school history.

The playoffs are upon us folks! Excited for some good football. While VHSL has not officially released the 1st round games, I am 95% sure these are what they will be. I have verified it with 2 news outlets and a few schools have posted their games on their websites.
If there are any corrections that need to be made when VHSL officially releases the games later today, I will be sure to come back on and correct anything that is needed, but as I said I am 95% sure these are the games. Let’s get into it…

*** In Region 5D, Stone Bridge and Briar Woods both have bye weeks. Very weird region.

1. Fairfax (-3) @ Edison
- Edison had a great year, but I fear it ends this week. Edison plays in the weakest district in perhaps the state and Fairfax plays in perhaps the most competitive district in the state. That’s going to be the difference. Fairfax is the more physical team and while I think Edison can be competitive for a half, maybe 3 quarters, I think Fairfax wears them down and moves on.

2. Hayfield @ West Springfield (-21)
- For the second season in a row, Hayfield and West Springfield meet in the regular season and in the playoffs. Last year, the Spartans won the regular season match up 46-9 and the playoff game 29-10. The Spartans beat Hayfield to open the season 42-13. I’m expecting the score to be closer again this time around but again, National District teams don’t fare well against Patriot teams.

3. Herndon (-3) @ McLean
- Co game of the week. Herndon beat McLean by 3 in their Homecoming game in October and it was a very good, competitive, hard fought game with Herndon coming back to get the win. McLean has worried me the last 2 weeks with close wins against Wakefield and Langley. I think Herndon goes on the road and finds a way to get it done for the 2nd time this season against McLean. Should be a good game.

4. Langley @ Madison (-16)
- Langley squeaks in as the 8th seed beating out Chantilly. (Langley = 26.60 and Chantilly = 26.30) Old school Liberty District game in this one. Unfortunately for the Saxons, the Warhawks will be too much for them to handle. I like Madison comfortably in this one.

5. Mount Vernon @ Lake Braddock (-24)
- Good for the Majors for beating Edison and getting in. Unfortunately for them, Lake Braddock is a different beast than Edison. Again, it goes back to National vs. Patriot. I like the Bruins big at home.

6. Potomac @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-45)
- Freedom won the first time these two got together, 65-0. Expecting a blowout, and I’m sure everyone else is too but Freedom cannot look ahead as I’m sure they’re focused on winning back to back State Titles in Class 6.

7. West Potomac @ South County (-21)
- 2nd meeting in as many weeks for these two teams. The Wolverines came out fighting and kept it relatively close but I’m expecting Pannoni and crew to watch the film and clean things up. Expect a different Stallions team this Friday night.

8. Westfield (-3) @ Washington-Lee
- Game of the week. W&L struggled with winless Wakefield, but they did finish 9-1. With that being said, W&L is facing one of the best coaches in the area who I’m sure will have something cooked up. I think this is going to be a very competitive and hard fought game, but I just can’t pick against Westfield given how they took South Lakes to the wire and W&L struggled with Wakefield. Give me the Bulldogs in a great game.

9. Yorktown @ South Lakes (-18)
- Yorktown’s weak out of district schedule gets them in as the 8th seed and I’m sure South Lakes is awake now after getting punched in the mouth by Westfield last week. I like the Seahawks big in this one.

I was at the game and unofficially covered it on my IG for South Lakes.
It was a great game, back and forth until literally the last minute when Seahawks made a TD and some critical defensive stops. @seahawkboosters on IG & X(Twitter) may still have some of the videos I posted but since they were on stories on IG they’re probably expired.
It was a tight game but the Seahawks pulled through and kept their head focused on winning.

Biggest disappoints this season

Centreville (2-8)
Losses to average teams like Yorktown, Fairfax, and West Potomac combined with blow out losses to Westfield, Madison, and South Lakes makes you wonder where this program is headed.

Robinson (3-7)
Played a tough schedule and had several lopsided losses to teams with winning records. Was this a one year dip or will this be the Robinson of the future?

Chantilly (5-5)
Another average season on Stringfellow Road. The Chargers weren’t competitive against the better Concorde teams and took losses against Herndon and McLean. With Centreville down Chantilly could have won 7 and positioned themselves for a playoff win, instead they are putting equipment away.

Alexandria City (0-10)
Hard to imagine the Titians don’t have enough talent to win a game. Offense has been a problem there since Longerbeam moved on. Many coaches have moved through AC in the last decade. Who could fix them?

Edison/Hayfield/Mt. Vernon
All three programs have been unable to break through and win games outside of their district. The patriot teams do not seem as dominant as they’ve been. The last few years, there was a chance for a national district team, to make a playoff run, but I think all three will be one and done.

Woodson/Oakton
Both teams seem overmatched in their district. I’m not sure coaching changes would improve the situation unless they found a sleeper somewhere. The redistricting really hurt these schools.

Going to be interesting to see the coaching moves in the off-season. I think the AC coach should be fired and Centreville, Robinson, Woodson and Oakton all really need to evaluate.

For what it's worth, Hayfield did not win the National District title outright.....they shared it with Mt. Vernon and Edison.....all three teams were 5-1 in the district and 1-1 vs. each other.

Lmaooooo 3 co-district champions is ridiculous, did they have 3 banners or was Hayfield the only one that got to take the post game picture with it? Hahahaha

Three banners, baby! Same thing happened in 2021 with Justice, Mt. Vernon, and Hayfield.

There should definitely be some type of tiebreaker.

Yeah, I agree… 3 banners is absurd lmao

Agree with your analysis. Even though Fairfax took a step back this season, they are still a Patriot team playing a National team. Fairfax wins and covers.

Once again, National against Patriot, and in this case, a far better Patriot team, with a high powered offense. Even giving 21 points, I’ll take West Springfield to win and cover.

This might be the toughest pick, but I’m concerned that McLean is running out of gas. Herndon wins and covers.

I do, too. I will say that the line shouldn’t be too big here, because Madison doesn’t tend to run up the score. Still, Madison wins and covers.

Lake Braddock wins and covers, prompting their fans to flood this site with how great they are. UGH

South County wins and covers. I think they will be representing 6C in states.

Just like there is a difference between National and Patriot in 6C, there’s a difference between Liberty and Concorde in 6D, though maybe not as pronounced. That’s the difference here. Westfield wins and covers. Easily.

Rumor Zone: Morgan is probably not going to be able turn Oakton around. I've heard rumors there's been infighting at Oakton. Morgan and his OC and DC are not on the same page.

T.C. Williams is the largest high school in Virginia. They surely have the talent pool with that many students. It must boil down to coaching.

I have said the same, they have the whole damn city of alexandria to pull from, how did they go 0-10? i get that a lot of kids go private in alexandria but 0-10 is inexcusable

How is having co-champions worse than what the Patriot district was doing over the past few years? They had two pods of four, played a total of four district games, and crowned at least two district champions no matter what. Talk about handing out participation trophies.

But I agree, they should figure out a tiebreaker and crown only one winner.

Just south county this year, for the first time in years just 1 patriot discredit champion…maybe because of the 34 year old quarterback they have.

VHSL cut off was 19 I thought. But they may have increased the age limit in recent years since many don’t graduate on time.

It’s crazy how every other school has turned around their football seasons in the past 6 years except Oakton. Even Woodson at a point turned their season around and went 11-2. When is the day Oakton is going to be good and respected

That's a big debate...Some people feel Oakton will never be good again...Others think Oakton is a sleeping giant.

Man soco isn’t winning a thing. Such a shakey offense with an old man under center who can’t establish a run game. Goodluck getting past the second round of the playoffs.

It’s not that simple. You have to have a HC that knows how to lead. Coach Morgan lacks that especially when you hire pee wee football coaches. You have a defensive coach running Oakton’s Offense. Look at the lack of points being put up every week. Can not have a coach that doesn’t lead these guys to failure every week! Administration doesn’t know how to fire this guy because they don’t know the sport. Oakton can be great if you have the right guy leading them. Kids are leaving because they don’t want to play for this man.

How much of a chance do you guys think Washington Liberty and Yorktown stand this week?

Yorktown beat South Lakes a number of times when SL was in the Liberty District. But this year is different. SL should dominate. For W-L, this is the best chance at winning over Westfield in years. Despite the Wakefield game, W-L has a balanced offense and stingy defense so that game should be close.

I think the Yorktown game will be a blowout and the W-L game has potential to be close, depending on what W-L team decides to show up

Yorktown will have to slow the game down and play mistake free ball, never count out Bruce Hanson.

I was at the Yorktown- Centreville. Centreville gave them all they could handle. Prepare for a beat down.

South Lakes continually beat on Yorktown when they were both in Liberty....a quick look on MaxPreps shows 1 Yorktown win in the past 10 seasons.

South lakes supposedly has their starting running back out with a broken leg? Does this have any effect to change the game remotely
