Yorktown only beats woodson 21-14. I tried telling y’all they weren’t going to be nearly as good this year. They will lose to w-l, who destroyed edison, for the first time in 7 years. Hanson needs to keep his dignity and retire.

Westfield takes down Patriot 35-7. This game was a total beatdown from start to finish. I don't think Westfield is that good but clearly Patriot is/was highly overrated.

Week 1 Results
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: August 27, 2023 10:34AM

Week 1 is in the books! It was a rainy one with plenty of games going into delays and one even ending with 5 minutes left in the 4th due to injury.

1. Chantilly (-28) @ Falls Church
- Chantilly won and covered, 37-0.

2. Colgan @ Lake Braddock (-30)
- Lake Braddock won 48-19, winning by 29. Wonder if they gave up a garbage time TD?

3. Freedom-Woodbridge (-20) @ Coolidge (DC)
- Freedom blanked Coolidge 48-0.

4. Langley (-14) @ Oakton
- Langley won and covered, 35-13.

5. Lee @ Park View (-3)
- Lee gets the win on the road, 41-30. Good for the Lancers.

6. Madison @ Stone Bridge (-6)
- Madison won a thriller 28-24. Wish I could've watched this one... Anyone have any input?

7. Marshall (-3) @ Annandale
- Marshall won and covered, 27-21.

8. McLean @ George Mason (-3)
- McLean blanked the Mustangs, 44-0.

9. Osbourn @ South Lakes (-8)
- South Lakes was victorious 46-6.

10. Robinson @ South County (-21)
- South County won 39-0. Game was stopped with 5 min left in the 4th due to a Robinson player suffering a head injury. I hope he is doing well.

11. Stuart @ Herndon (-14)
- Herndon won with ease, 55-0. Will the Hornets have another solid year or is JEB just that bad? The Jury is still out.

12. T.C. Williams @ Centreville (-20)
- Centreville won and covered, 28-3.

13. Wakefield @ Fairfax (-28)
- Fairfax won and covered, 52-20. Gotta say, I'm surprised they gave up 3 scores to Wakefield.

14. Washington-Lee @ Edison (-14)
- I was totally wrong on this one. W-L defeated Edison on the road, 45-13. I take back what I said about Edison being my sleeper, that's a bad loss for them at home.

15. West Potomac (-14) @ Mount Vernon
- West Potomac scored 16 unanswered points to get the win 19-16. Sounds like a great game.

16. West Springfield (-17) @ Hayfield
- West Springfield rolls on the road, 42-13.

17. Westfield (-6) @ Patriot
- Westfield gets the win 35-7. Keep an eye out for the Bulldogs.

18. Woodson @ Yorktown (-35)
- I was wrong by saying Yorktown would win this one with ease. They won 21-14, but granted they were playing Woodson, that has to be worrysome for them.

Week 2
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: August 27, 2023 10:37AM

Here we go with Week 2, all (or most) of the games this week will be played on Thursday night.

1. Annandale @ Washington-Lee (-20)
- The Generals surprised me going on the road and beating Edison the way they did. Annandale shouldn’t pose much of a threat to them.

2. Centreville (-14) @ West Potomac
- Looking for the Wildcats to start the season 2-0 with 2 wins against the Patriot District.

3. Colonial Forge (-13) @ T.C. Williams
- Looking for Forge to pull away late in this one.

4. Fairfax (-30) @ Oakton
- The Rebels lose Tony Rojas and Georgia commit Kris Jones steps into his spot. He scored three times last week as a back. Fairfax rolls in this one.

5. Falls Church @ Marshall (-17)
- Looking for the Statesmen to enjoy a win in their home opener.

6. Freedom-Woodbridge (-21) @ Varina
- Freedom travels down to Richmond to play perennial power Varina but truthfully, the Eagles will more than likely be too much for them to handle.

7. Hayfield (-24) @ Wakefield
- Looking for the Hawks to go on the road pissed off and taking it out on Wakefield.

8. Herndon (-10) @ Langley
- The Hornets face more of a challenge this week on the road. Going to be interesting to see how they do.

9. Lake Braddock @ Madison (-10)
- Game of the week. This should be a good one but at the end of the day, the Warhawks just have too much and while I think Lake Braddock will keep up for a while, I think Madison will ultimately wear them down.

10. Lee @ McLean (-14)
- Back to reality for the Lancers this week. McLean is looking to start the season 2-0 for the first time since the Covid 2020 spring season.

11. Mount Vernon @ Westfield (-21)
- I think Westfield will blow the Majors out.

12. Quince Orchard (MD) (-3) @ South County
- Co-game of the week. I love games like this! If you don’t know about QO, just look them up. They are a powerhouse program out of Montgomery County. Shoutout to both teams for getting this one scheduled. Absolutely looking forward to it.

13. South Lakes (-21) @ Robinson
- Improved South Lakes team plus a Robinson team on the decline equals… A SL win on the road. What has happened to Robinson?

14. Stone Bridge @ Martinsburg (WV) (-5)
- Another very intriguing game. Martinsburg is a powerhouse for sure, so shoutout to Mickey for getting them on the schedule and challenging themselves. The Bulldogs could fall to 0-2 for the time in maybe program history? That's a crazy thought.

15. Woodrow Wilson (DC) @ Yorktown (-17)
- The annual home game against a DC school for Yorktown. Since the series started in 2005, Yorktown is 11-3 against Wilson and have only travelled to DC twice. I think Yorktown gets it done.

16. Woodson @ Chantilly (-17)
- Looking for the Chargers to start 2-0. Can Woodson keep this one close?

Not if they play the way they did against Madison. Throwing an INT inside your own 5? Two DBs letting a WR run down the middle near the goal line? And two missed tackles on the reverse kick off return? It was the first game of the season but those mistakes are not what we usually see from Stone Bridge. If Stone Bridge doesn't fix things quickly they are going to be 0-5 (1-4 at best) for the first half of the season.

And...

They could not stop Madison's FB trap and slant running plays right up the middle (one was a TD)...

Except for a couple break contain long QB scrambles, a few longer runs, a long pass completion into tight converge, one blown coverage on the long pass before their last touchdown --- 8 plays that they out athleted Madison --- Stone Bridge looked OK but not great. Their defense was not lights out tough like in past years, they were getting beat and frustrated.

Not to expect that kickoff package from Madison, shame on the Bulldogs... it is one of the Warhawks standard return options...

Also, just the tone of the game, Madison was hitting (ehhh... one late-ish on the QB), Stone Bridge didn't seem like they wanted to...

If Madison didn't have a 100+ yards in penalties, it could have been worse.

Bottom Line -- Agree, Stone Bridge is in trouble if they play that way against Martinsburg... God help them against Quince Orchard and Good Counsel.

Robinson plays at James Madison next week... it will be a Ram's blood bath.

Lake Braddock's running back and QB are pretty good, but the Warhawks were pushing around the Bruins's O and D lines while still giving away 20+ lbs a man, especially in the 2nd half.

Robinson is essentially a JV team this season in terms of what they have. Mostly sophomores. They are tall and skinny with almost zero experience, as you might expect from 15-16 year olds. If they develop physically as well as their on-field execution in two years, then when these kids are seniors they could be back to normal.

Agree. LB’s running back and quarterback are talented. QB is big, poised and works through reads quickly. LB can compete at the elite level, showed it in the first half. Saw a lot of parity between the two teams. Score was a bit deceiving, but the better team won as Madison is disciplined. They’ll likely see each other again.

This Robinson team is not a JV team. There are several returning starters on defense and I don’t think a sophomore played on offense last night when the game mattered. The last two years the JV team has been very good. We have the same talent we usually have. The biggest difference is the coaching. The Rams used to have average talent with good coaching and could compete. Now we have average talent with bad coaching and we are getting embarrassed.

You are probably a parent so you should know, but I also know what I saw and what the head coach told me. The roster has 21 SR, 26 JR, and 46 SO on it. If Robinson is an ordinary team, at least half those 47 S/JR players will never see the field. I stand by what I said in that their talent level is more like a JV/developmental team, at least at this point in the season. They are not that good (yet?) and will not have a winning season unless the learning curve happens fast. They probably go 3-7 at best.

The only way they would “see each other again” is if LB won their Region Championship and faced Madison in the state semis. Since there is 0% chance of LB doing that, they won’t see them again until next year.

I say Robinson has a chance against Alexandria, Woodson, and maybe West Potomac (still an underdog in this game). Gainesville would certainly be an upset, and any other win a huge upset that only happens once a decade.

You mean the west po who beat Centerville? Didn’t Centerville crush Robinson in their scrimmage?

You’re right. Robinson will be competitive against Woodson and Alexandria City and actually think Woodson will get the win. Robo has already been outscored 0-81 and Madison will hang another 50. Speaking of 50, I’ll be surprised if Robo gets passed the 50 yard line in this game. Yikes

That would mean Robinson would be as uncompetitive as Oakton and W-L against Madison last year. The 2nd / 3rd string will be in the game for Madison after halfime. Last year against W-L they just ran their simplest play, fullback trap, every play of a series in the 4th quarter w/ the 2nd string FB... and still scored -- is Robinson THAT bad?

Robinson Results
Centreville scrimmage 56-0
Westfield scrimmage 42-0
South County game 39-0
South Lakes game 42-0

Teams aren’t as likely to “take it easy” on Robinson because they still have big, talented players and they should be better.

These scores are crazy for a Robo game. What offense is Blair running? Or at least attempting to run?

Week 1 Results
Posted by: parentof2 ()

So after I posted last Sunday, I realized that Week 1 should've been Week 0 and Week 2 should've been Week 1, so this weeks spreads will be Week 2. So, no, you guys aren't seeing things. I also noticed various final scores depending on where you look so I'm sticking with official sources and team websites/social media accounts.

1. Annandale @ Washington-Lee (-20)
- W-L won and covered, 49-20.

2. Centreville (-14) @ West Potomac
- West Potomac upsets the Wildcats, 35-32. Congrats to the Wolverines.

3. Colonial Forge (-13) @ T.C. Williams
- Colonial Forge wins big on the road, 48-13.

4. Fairfax (-30) @ Oakton
- Fairfax blanks Oakton, 41-0. They have outscored their first 2 opponents 93-20.

5. Falls Church @ Marshall (-17)
- Marshall crushes Falls Church, 51-6.

6. Freedom-Woodbridge (-21) @ Varina
- Freedom won 35-27, failing to cover. The 35 points scored also snaps their streak of 30-something or 40-something straight games with at least 42 points. But hey, a win is a win.

7. Hayfield (-24) @ Wakefield
- Hayfield won 35-14, but did not cover.

8. Herndon (-10) @ Langley
- Langley defeated Herndon 21-0. I gotta say, this one surprised me a little bit.

9. Lake Braddock @ Madison (-10)
- Madison won and covered, 31-7. Watched a little bit of this one and it was clear that Madison was the bigger and more physical team. On plenty of occasions they had gaping holes to run through. They really ran away with this one in the 2nd half.

10. Lee @ McLean (-14)
- Back to reality for the Lancers this week indeed. McLean won 50-9, they were winning 44-3 at halftime.

11. Mount Vernon @ Westfield (-21)
- My prediction was correct as Westfield did blow out the Majors, 42-0.

12. Quince Orchard (MD) (-3) @ South County
- South County lost 33-0. Quince Orchard is the real deal and while the Stallions lost, they challenged themselves. They won't see another team that good until the playoffs, if they make a deep run.

13. South Lakes (-21) @ Robinson
- South Lakes blasted Robinson, 42-0. They've outscored their first 2 opponents 88-6.

14. Stone Bridge @ Martinsburg (WV) (-5)
- Stone Bridge got blown out 41-7. They had 2 turnovers on downs early in the 1st quarter and that kind of set the tone for the night, in my opinion. First time Stone Bridge has started the season 0-2 since 2001, their 2nd year in existence.

15. Woodrow Wilson (DC) @ Yorktown (-17)
- Yorktown gets their annual DC win, 37-7.

16. Woodson @ Chantilly (-17)
- Chantilly won 31-21. I caught a little of this one and I gotta say, Woodson has improved a little bit. Woodson was actually leading Chantilly early in the 4th and Chantilly pulled away late. In the late minutes with the game in hand, most teams would've run clock but Chantilly was still moving quick on offense until the very end.

Week 2
Posted by: parentof2 ()

As I ststed in my previous post, I realized I was a week ahead and Week 10 would’ve been Week 11 since I didn’t include Week 0. So this is the real Week 2, you aren’t seeing things! I also hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day Weekend. Week 2, here we go…

1. Annandale @ Hayfield (-10)
- Hayfield begins district play at home with a win. Expecting Annandale to score a decent amount of points, though.

2. Chantilly (-21) @ McLean
- After beating up on 2 bad teams, can McLean hang with Chantilly?

3. Edison @ Langley (-10)
- Langley intrigues me, and so does Edison. I can’t seem to figure either one of them out just yet. Give me the Saxons by double digits at home.

4. DeMatha (MD) (-7) @ Freedom-Woodbridge
- Game of the week. While Freedom is a powerhouse, will they be able to keep it close and perhaps pull out a win against a WCAC and national powerhouse? Can’t wait for this one.

5. Fairfax (-17) @ Centreville
- Whoever posted earlier on that Centreville was small with inconsistent QB play was correct. I think Fairfax goes on the road and takes it to the Wildcats. The spread can be questioned, though.

6. Forest Park @ T.C. Williams (-5)
- Don’t know much about Forest Park except that they are 0-2 with 2 blowout losses. Give me the Titans at home.

7. Friendship Collegiate (DC) (-27) @ Mount Vernon
- Friendship went on the road to California last week and got blasted by powerhouse St. John Bosco. They’ll come into Virginia pissed off and take it out on the Majors. Still a big fan of games like this.

8. Herndon (-14) @ Osbourn Park
- Osbourn Park stinks. Herndon shouldn’t have any problems in this one.

9. Marshall (-30 @ Stuart
- Look for a similar final as the Marshall/Falls Church game…

10. Oakton @ Woodson (-3)
- Can’t remember the last time I picked WTW as a favorite. With that being said, they are an improved football team and I think they are capable of beating Oakton. Give me the Cavs at home in a close one.

11. Robinson @ Madison (-35)
- The blowout losses for Robinson will unfortunately continue this week.

12. South County (-15) @ West Springfield
- This one is very intriguing. First district game for both teams. The Stallions are coming off a beat down and the Spartans are coming off a bye week. I think the Stallions still win by at least 2 touchdowns.

13. Stone Bridge (-21) @ Woodgrove
- 0-2 Stone Bridge at 0-2 Woodgrove, that just doesn’t sound right. Looks like Woodgrove is having a down year and I’ll be damned if Mickey lets his guys start 0-3 with Quince Orchard and Good Counsel still on the schedule. Looking for the Bulldogs to win big.

14. Washington-Lee (-35) @ Lee
- This one will be over by halftime. Generals by a lot.

15. Westfield (-14) @ Lake Braddock
- Co-game of the week. Westfield has outscored their first 2 opponents 77-7, they’re under a lot of people’s radar but they have a good football team. Will the Bruins be able to keep it close with their 2nd Concorde opponent in as many weeks?

16. Yorktown (-21) @ Wakefield
- Yorktown has won 26 in a row against Wakefield, with their last loss to the Warriors coming in 1995. Look for that winning streak to continue this week.

They were unprepared from the opening kickoff. Not often you say SoCo was out classes both on the field and the sidelines, but yesterday was the day.

The talent difference was stunning to see. Quince Orchard was bigger, faster, and stronger. They did nothing flashy. Standard I formation and hammered South County. SoCo’s sloppiness on offense and special teams caught up with them in this game because they no longer had the best athletes on the field.

As someone who’s paid great attention to both teams, I really think w-l beats them soundly. Yorktown’s dbs won’t be able to stop the generals passing attack and their offense is very limited because of their condensed formations which w-l knows better than anyone. Yorktown will come into this game with confidence because of arguably the softest opening schedule known to man and history of success vs w-l, but that could backfire if they don’t recognize how big of a threat w-l really is. I feel sick for the yorktown players knowing how big of a rivalry it is and also knowing they’ll be the first team to lose the rivalry game in 7 years at home.

A chance? Yes. But Freedom is not accustomed to playing team's at DeMatha's level......so they couldn't possibly be fully prepared for them.
