The DSA won’t write you back, they don’t care about football at Oakton like they used to

Dude, just hang the cleats up at this point, college ball isn’t for you. Maybe he just wants to fuck high school girls for another year, because playing at a solid college won’t happen for him

VHSL reset the semi-final brackets in October.

Winner of Freedom/Battlefield plays the winner of Westfield/Madison

...everything to get to VHSL's preferred Freedom/Highland Springs match up in the State Class 6 final

I totally forgot about VHSL switching up the brackets in October, thank you for clearing that up. I always seem to have one screw up per week, I thought I was good this week, but I guess not! Thanks again. If we get Freedom vs. Highland Springs in the State Championship, that will be a fantastic game.

Pretty sure the system does it automatically, but there’s a second camera that points at the scoreboard. If it’s not installed or pointed at the scoreboard accurately, it’s not going to work.

I’ve never seen that in football, a camera pointed at the scoreboard but they do it for basketball

No, they switched the pairings a few weeks ago. In Class 6 only, it is now A vs C and B vs D. The Freedom-Battlefield winner gets the Westfield-Madison winner.

To see the score and time, the school needs to get a cable that links the camera and the scoreboard. Or so I saw on another site, as posted by a guy who actually works in the press box for games. Still, you would think NFHS would require their contractors to set things up the correct way.

That makes sense regarding NFHS… Every school should have the cable that’s needed to connect the camera and scoreboard

No surprises this week, the only thing I can say that I found slightly surprising was the margin of victory in a few of these games. As someone stated, the camera was not working at the Lake Braddock vs. Fairfax game, no big deal. What was hard was trying to actively follow Madison vs. Westfield with the Ohio State vs. Michigan game on! Whew, those college games yesterday were fantastic. I also like how Stone Bridge played on Friday afternoon, and Freedom played at 3 PM, so once the Madison game ended, we were able to switch over to Freedom.

1. Battlefield @ Freedom (-10)
- Freedom won 50-7, it's worth noting the Eagles were leading 43-0 at halftime and scored two touchdowns in the first 5 minutes of the game. They did this against a very tough Battlefield team who came in undefeated, it's pretty remarkable what Overton and crew have put together down there in Woodbridge.

2. Briar Woods @ Stone Bridge (-14)
- Stone Bridge won the rematch 29-6, pretty much what I think most of us outside of the Briar Woods locker room expected. Whoever made the call at Stone Bridge to put white turf in the end zone should be fired, it's ugly. Good win for the Bulldogs who will be hosting next weekend.

3. Fairfax @ Lake Braddock (-13)
- Lake Braddock won relatively easily, 39-20. They did give up a garbage time TD but that's all I really know about this game with NFHS having technical difficulties. Hats off to Fairfax for making it to back to back Region Championship games. They finished 9-4 and could've easily been written off after losing Kris Jones but they stayed together and went 6-2 in their last 8 games. Lake Braddock has a true battle ahead of them next weekend.

4. Westfield @ Madison (-4)
- Madison won this one 31-7, the final score surprised me. I thought Westfield would've played Madison close like they did in the regular season. Kudos to Madison for putting their foot on the gas in a game that matters a heck of a lot more than a regular season game. I believe it was 17-7 Madison at the half and they took off from there. Westfield finishes 9-4 and while I'm unsure how much total talent they will lose, things are looking up as they have improved in each of their last 3 seasons.

Second to last week of the season, you hate to see it go but basketball is upon us also! I know not as many people follow NOVA/DMV basketball as they do football, but some of the best teams in the country are from the area. But back to football, in my mind the Class 4, Class 5 and Class 6 champs are all but decided but anything can happen and nothing is a given, it is earned. Also, in hindsight, I’m actually glad VHSL tweaked the Class 6 bracket, I think that was a good move on their part. Now onto the games:

1. Lake Braddock @ Highland Springs (-22)
- Lake Braddock hasn’t seen a team like Highland Springs, they are just as physical (if not more so) than the Bruins and are definitely the more athletic team. The Springers also played a more challenging schedule, anticipating playing for a State Championship, surely. Noah Jenkins is a safety headed to Virginia Tech and their QB is headed to Maryland, they also have other talent. Lake Braddock will really have to slow this one down if they want to keep it close because if they play fast, the Springers will blow them out of the water quickly. Eric Byrd is also a really good RB (2026). The Bruins are in trouble, hopefully they can keep it close.

2. Madison @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-30)
- Didn’t think I’d ever post a spread like this against Madison, but here we are. We all know what happened when these two played in the State Championship last year at a neutral site (Freedom won 49-14) but this year Madison has to play them on their home field. Freedom is just too talented, this year’s team is one of the best I can remember seeing. It’s going to be a tall task for Madison to slow Freedom down and keep it close. All I can say is best of luck to the Warhawks.

3. Matoaca @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- All I know about Matoaca is they are from Chesterfield and come into this game 10-3. 2 of their 3 losses came to very good teams and the 3rd loss was by 21 to a team that finished 8-4. Stone Bridge is no stranger to these State Semi games, but Matoaca is and therefore I like the Bulldogs big at home.

Does W&L go back to losing seasons once again? They lose the majority of playmakers and from what we saw against Westfield it seems as if they can’t really play with competitive teams the way Yorktown can. I’d also like to mention as someone who paid close attention to both of these teams, Yorktown switched their entire offense at about the halfway point and that’s when we truly saw them shine against more competitive teams. (Westfield, Southlakes, Wspf)

The new AD is the former MV coach. I don't think Aziz would quit without another HC gig lined up - and there is not much open...maybe the Oakton job (which isn't a step up in my opinion). He must've done or said something really smart to piss off the new AD, who probably thinks he can get a better coach.

Hahah so true. Aziz will absolutely apply for the Oakton job. Falls Church will be his fallback plan. I don’t think Oakton is that attractive…not a lot of big kids and you have to get beat up by Westfield & Madison every year (and probably S Lakes) so there is no chance to win the district.

Lake Braddock 0, Highland Springs 14, halftime.

Highland Springs doesn’t put a “0” on the scoreboard, they leave it blank until points are scored, I like that

Watching Freedom thrash James Madison is like watching James Madison thrash Washington-Lee last year in the first round. Except Freedom will run up the score... and keep running up the score... and keep running up the score...

LB streaming glitching for me too even after reloading and using different browsers and devices. What a shame.
Freedom making Madison look like a JV team (which they are not). They have amazing talent but it’s a real shame for Prince William County to have allowed the recruiting that has gone on and decimated the other eastern PW schools.

55-14 with 5 min left in the 3rd, they’re gonna try to hang 70 or 80 on those “white boys”, classless program

This is worse than the Oscar Smith team from a few years ago. Are these a bunch of 20 year old High School kids? Are they actually enrolled in the High School or do they just show up on game day? LOL

By doing a simple traffic ticket search, Overton has a Burke address… I bet his nephew lives either with or near him in Burke and they go to school everyday together as Overton is a security guard at Freedom. So all the kids have to go to Freedom, via fraudulent addresses I’m sure.

Overton also uses his 7x7 team (VA Playmakers) I believe to recruit the best kids in PWC. It’s blatant, even more so than Stone Bridge and maybe John Marshall basketball. How VHSL fails
to act is beyond me, but they let it happen.

BINGO! and the VHSL will not (and cannot) do much. It is up to the school to do something. They won't.

Another school can file a complaint and it would go to Freedom’s AD (who I’m sure sucks Overton off) I remember LB’s bball coaching doing the same in 2009 for TCW basketball who was dominant and TCW had to forfeit a bunch of games and lost 3 players. Idk who the LB bball coach filed the complaint with. Maybe the VHSL? Idk

Highland Springs is a similar team. The difference appears to be that the Springer may be utilizing their various academy enrollments to gather any kid from Henrico County to attend. But, likely have kids from all over the RVA area.

State Semi Final Results

Pretty much everything went as planned yesterday. I will say, if you're a Lake Braddock fan, you have to be pissed that for 2 weeks in a row NFHS Network has been down for your game.

1. Lake Braddock @ Highland Springs (-22)
- Highland Springs won 35-10, The Bruins were driving in the 3rd quarter down 21-0 when they threw an interception at the Springers 11 yard line. I think at that point, whatever life the Bruins had was sucked out of them. The Springers went up 35-0 and then gave up 10 garbage points. The stream was working (for me at least) for about 5 minutes, I saw they brought an ambulance on the field for a Lake Braddock player, I hope the injury isn't serious and he is alright. Right after that, the stream went down. Lake Braddock finishes 11-3, great year for the Bruins. No shame in losing to a team as talented as Highland Springs.

2. Madison @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-30)
- Freedom won 55-14. It's just incredible how much talent they have over there, Freedom had a kid commit to Clemson before the game and I'm sure every P5 program is going to be at Freedom next year checking out Jeff Overton Jr. I made something to eat and when I came back, Freedom had scored twice and they were up 41-7 at halftime. They totally dismantled Madison (who did have a few very nice plays) and again, there's no shame in losing to a team as talented as Freedom. Madison had a great year, finishing 12-2 and I'm sure they'll be back next year.

3. Matoaca @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- Stone Bridge won 21-10 and was the only school I picked that did not cover. Did not check this one out but Matoaca seems like a tough team. Congrats to Mickey and his kids on yet another State Championship appearance.

The final week once again is upon us! I’m going to pick all 6 classes like I did last year since we only have 6 games left. Congratulations to all 12 teams who have made it this far and are playing for hardware! I’d also like to thank all of you guys who contributed to the forum this year. Yes, the post numbers were down, BUT we still did over 50,000 views! Thank you all for your kind words, and to the user who asked, I plan on starting the 2024 thread next weekend and I will share the link for everyone to share and save (with all of the spam on this site and what not). So tell a friend to tell a friend and maybe we can do even better numbers next year! Class 1 & 2 will be played at Salem HS, Class 3 & 4 will be played at Liberty University and Class 5 & 6 are finally back at UVA. The VHSL should’ve never moved the Class 5 and 6 finals down to the 757, just my opinion. Now onto the games:

Class 1: Essex (-14) v. Galax
- Two smaller schools, neither of whom I am familiar with. Riverheads is now Class 2 and they ran Class 1 for years. Essex comes in undefeated while Galax comes in at 10-4, and with that being said, give me Essex.

Class 2: Riverheads (-6) v. Radford
- Riverheads won seven (yes, SEVEN!) Class 1 titles in a row and I guess the VHSL said enough of this and bumped them up a class. Riverheads lost 1 game, in week 1, by 1 point. Radford is undefeated but that isn’t enough to sway me. I like Riverheads to win their eighth State Championship in a row, their first in Class 2. This very well could be the best game next weekend.

Class 3: Lafayette v. Liberty Christian (-14)
- If there’s one school that is glad Phoebus is no longer a Class 3 school, its LCA. They come in undefeated and are basically playing in their own backyard. I don’t know how the VHSL lets a private school compete in public school football, but they do. LCA is also totally loaded with talent, I like them in this one, it could possibly get ugly.

Class 4: Salem v. Phoebus (-35)
- Hats off to Salem for getting this far, but Phoebus is just too much. Phoebus won their first playoff game 104-0 and also have 8 shutouts on defense and have hung 104, 77 and 65 points on opponents. Phoebus wins big.

Class 5: Stone Bridge v. Maury (-22)
- Remember the schedule Stone Bridge started off with and the talent they faced? Maury is just as good as all of those teams. Maury has 7 shutouts and have 83-0, 85-0, 81-0, 62-0, 63-0 and 68-8 wins on their resume. Stone Bridge has their hands full in this one, I like Maury big.

Class 6: Highland Springs v. Freedom-Woodbridge (-24)
- The VHSL got what they wanted in the Class 6 final. Freedom is just too much for really any team. Remember when I said I had the Class 4, 5 and 6 winners already decided last week? It's Phoebus, Maury and Freedom. I think Maury and Phoebus would play Freedom tougher than Highland Springs, but the Springers do have the athletes, size and strength to hang around with Freedom. Freedom is just so explosive on offense, I can’t see the Springers matching them. Freedom’s defense doesn’t get the praise it deserves because of the powerful offense but they lock teams down. I like Freedom big.

Northern Va Football is the Joke.. it could be a decade or longer before Reg C or D wins another State Title!!! Y'all better hope L. Johnson becomes the next VaTech football Coach & takes Overton with him. Both are wrapping up their kids' HS careers & have little reason to stay around after they graduate!

you may be the 1st person on FFU that's claimed Freedom as a northern Va team.back when they beat westfield then lost to manchester in the championship game, FFU seemed to unanimously chant this... Simmons then headed up the re-alignment to get them pushed to 6B... he claimed it was too far away to play!!!

BUT given with cross bracketing in class 6, there may not be a championship game for you otherwise ! Sad, no rep from Class 6 c/d on Saturday !

As long as Fairfax County doesn't allow open enrollment, the Northern Virginia teams are going to struggle to win a State Championship. Freedom is a great team and are well coached, but lets not pretend they aren't an all star team from Woodbridge. Ask Potomac, Hylton, Woodbridge, Garfield, and Colgan how their football teams did this year. By accumulating a significant amount of the talent in an area at one school you can build a super team at the expense of the other teams in the area and the overall quality of the football. You get scores like 85-10. I'm not saying they have done anything illegal. Lord knows their coach has been investigated and everything they have done is above board or at least been cleared by the County. I'm just saying it is just a different set of rules than the Fairfax teams are working with. It's not just Freedom either. Loudoun County allows open enrollment if the school is under populated and that has benefited Stone Bridge over the years as well.

Will be interesting. Lots of possibilities. I mean they already have 4 or 5 former head coaches on the staff. And they also have quite a few other former assistants that might be interested. So the question becomes do they hire someone with previous connections as either a former player or coach, do they hire the best available local talent or do they go completely outside the box and consider all applicants.

Maybe Shields at Centreville - they want to get rid of him anyway. Perhaps Reidenbaugh at Loudoun County. It's probably too early for anyone to be hearing anything.

I can't see them bringing Shields back with all the drama over there. I think they'd go after the best candidate but what sitting HC would want to leave their current spot?

Are you kidding me, any coach that’s not at Madison, LB, Soco Freedom-W.

Speaking of Shields, he’s the Josh McDaniels of HS football. Comes from a winning program and goes elsewhere and stinks it up, gets worse each season he’s there and the players hate him fans and parents and admin is tired of him.

That’s kind of what I meant, what HC not at those makes any sense to hire? Think they likely stay in house like they did with Simmons.

This is total BS. You really have an axe to grind. Realignment has nothing to do with any head coach. It is determined by the VHSL in an attempt to somewhat balance the number of schools in each region. That is why you see schools protesting or requesting to change their assigned affiliation every time the VHSL realigns.
