Westfield is in a different league from Centreville this year, and Chantilly is about to find that out. Westfield wins and covers.

West Springfield wins and covers. Expect a lot of points. You don’t say what the over under is, but whatever it is, take the over,

Remember folks, TCW lost to Woodson. That tells you all you need to know. Robo wins and covers.

SoCo has performed better against common opponents than Lake Braddock. SoCo wins and covers.

West Potomac has had a bad season, but a game against Woodson will cure whatever ails you. West Potomac wins and covers.

South Lakes athleticism and lateral speed, gummed up Madison's usual blocking schemes on offense... which is sort of add since Madison did just fine against Stone Bridge. On offense they used a LOT of misdirection which undressed Madison's aggressive front and LBs.

Seahawks are legit enough...

Let's see if Westfield's Simmons can glean some things from the tape to put SLakes in their place on November 3rd.

Edison got a lot of transfers and they are legit on defense but they still gave up 45 to W&L at home and will lose in the first round of the playoffs if they play a Patriot school

There was my thoughts exactly, SL is extremely athletic. If you said I can pick anyone to put together a plan to stop any team I’m picking Simmons

Exactly. Aidan Dash would’ve tore them up. Edison sucks and they will never beat any team in the patriot.

You think that Eli kid is better than Dash? Definitely not. He’s alright and could probably put up some points. But Edison wouldn’t be able to contain the Cavs offense. Dash, Sanchez, and DeRosa would embarrass them. South County just got lucky.

Simmons can’t get over Warhawks hump, don’t feel confident he’s got anything to beat SL, very unathletic and not very physical team he’s got.

Speaking of streaks, Bulldogs crushed Tilly, hard to believe Tilly had a 3 game win streak over them. What is going on over at Tilly. There were more athletic trainers than coaching staff. Why does Tilly continually have problems attracting and retaining asst coach’s? Lalli was almost a one man show at the end and now Curry has 3 guys. JV game saw maybe 2 coach’s. There are more coach’s in youth all sidelines. What a joke, shame for a school that size to be that poorly run. It’s not like they don’t have talent. Just recently they sent kids to Stanford & ND! You switch coaching staffs between Simmons and Curry, I’m sure Simmons makes it to state semi’s at least.

Now that the top end talent has dropped off and the top half of teams are somewhat similar talent wise each year coaching is going to be a major factor. The schools that can build and retain good staffs will win and the others will decline.

Right now in terms of total points Marshall is #7 in Region D but their regular season is over. Depends on how Langley and Yorktown do next week. Best shot for GCM is for Herndon to beat Yorktown.

6D is also almost locked. I have not run all the numbers (too many to run for 8 teams) but I expect the only real change will be if Westfield beats South Lakes AND Herndon loses to Yorktown. That should give Westfield the #5 and Herndon the #6. I don't think any of the 1-4 seeds will change, but there is a slight chance South Lakes can get the #2 if they beat Westfield.

If Westfield loses OR Herndon wins Westfield will most likely play South Lakes again in the first round (back to back weeks; unless South Lakes sneaks into the #2). Again, this is estimate but the differences in points for each seed after this week's games makes any movement among the top 6 seeds other than this very unlikely.

Sure, they have a chance. Westfield is definitely the underdog here, but if they catch a few breaks they are good enough to win. After all, they are 1 TD from being 9-0 (losing by 2 to Lake Braddock and 4 to Madison). Soft schedule, but all of Westfield's wins have been by 4 TDs or more. As usual, they are a bit undersized at many positions. Should be a great game. South Lakes has really had an amazing turnaround from last season - it's basically the same players that went 4-6 last year.

Week 9 Results

1. Annandale (-5) @ Lee
- Annandale blanks Lee, 28-0.

2. Briar Woods @ Stone Bridge (-10)
- Stone Bridge won and covered, 29-12. It's worth noting that Briar Woods was 7-1 coming into this game. I really like their QB, believe his last name was Carmichael.

3. Chantilly @ Westfield (-21)
- Westfield with a big victory over Chantilly, 56-12. Westfield is now 22-6 all-time against the Chargers.

4. Fairfax @ West Springfield (-3)
- West Springfield won 44-20. I anticipated this game being a little closer. It's clear Fairfax isn't what they were last year and the Spartans might be a little better than people give them credit for.

5. Falls Church @ Edison (-40)
- No, Falls Church did not score again this week, poor kids. Edison won 42-0. Week 1 I said Edison was my sleeper team but then I was discouraged after W&L tore them apart but they have since rebounded nicely. What's going on at Falls Church? 6 points in 9 games. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that.

6. Hayfield (-28) @ Stuart
- Hayfield won and covered, 48-0.

7. Hylton @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-50)
- Freedom continues it's PWC dominance, winning 73-0 and the district title.

8. Langley @ Washington-Lee (-15)
- W&L won 35-21, failing to cover. Good win for the Generals, nonetheless. With a win next week, they will finish 9-1 which would be their best record since 1975.

9. McLean (-35) @ Wakefield
- McLean won by a FG, 14-11. Anyone know how Wakefield managed to keep this one close? Does McLean have injuries? That final score shocked me.

10. Oakton @ Madison (-30)
- Madison won 38-12, failing to cover. I thought they would've hung more points on Oakton coming off the South County loss.

11. Robinson (-3) @ T.C. Williams
- Robinson wins easily, 34-14. T.C. will go 0-10, for perhaps, the first time in the school's storied history? Thats another one of those "What in the hell is going on over there?" questions.

12. South County (-6) @ Lake Braddock
- South County won an exciting game against a top 5 Fairfax program, 28-20. The Stallions are now 7-1 against the Bruins since 2018.

13. South Lakes (-28) @ Centreville
- South Lakes dismantled the Wildcats, 45-3. Shields has to be on the hot seat if things aren't corrected next year.

14. Woodson @ West Potomac (-15)
- West Potomac won and covered, 46-19.

15. Yorktown (-7) @ Marshall
- Marshall with a big upset, 35-33. The problem with Marshall's playoff hopes (as others on here have noted) is that they have played all 10 of their games. With that being said, their chances of making the playoffs are slim.

Week 10

Date: October 29, 2023 11:44AM

Heading into Week 10, here is where we stand. Please note these are not the VHSL official power point standings, but they are generally close. I’m expecting some movement this week also.

Region C:
1. South County (31.67)
2. Lake Braddock (31.44)
3. West Springfield (30.44)
4. Edison (28.78)
5. Fairfax (27.00)
6. Hayfield (25.22)
7. West Potomac (25.00)
8. Mount Vernon (24.44)
—————————————————
9. Robinson (24.22)
10. Stuart (22.22)

Region D:
1. Madison (34.33)
2. Washington-Lee (33.00)
3. South Lakes (32.67)
4. McLean (31.22)
5. Herndon (30.89)
6. Westfield (29.22)
7. Langley (26.78)
8. Yorktown (25.67)
———————————————————
9. Chantilly (25.33)
10. Marshall (25.30)

The regular season finale is upon us! I remember once upon a time when this was rivalry week, just another thing that VHSL screwed up. I want to rant real quick before getting into this week’s slate. VHSL has to change something (they love to implement changes mid-season) because this Region 6C and 6D thing isn’t working out. It’s bad for football and basketball. Too many schools in close proximity, 5A and 5B deal with the same thing in Class 5. It’s just bad and it leads to a watered down, bad product. Hayfield basketball, for example, played 2 Fairfax schools in the State Tournament before playing a Prince William school in the State Championship. I don’t have a solution off the top of my head, but something has to change. This format stinks. Thank you all for attending my TED talk, now lets get into Week 10:

1. Annandale @ Rock Ridge (-3)
- What a weird game, especially for the regular season finale. Both teams come in at 2-7, bad Loudoun football beats bad Fairfax football, so give me Rock Ridge at home.

2. Edison (-24) @ Mount Vernon
- It’s simple for the Majors, win and you're in. Robinson has Lake Braddock, so even with a loss (I expect Edison to blow them out), the Majors still have a solid chance to get in as the 8th seed.

3. Freedom-Woodbridge (-50) @ St. Michael the Archangel
- Who??? Had to do a little research and this is a private school out of Fredericksburg who is 4-5 and lost 7-49 to DeMatha who Freedom was (arguably) on the verge of beating. My guess is Overton expected them to be better when he scheduled them. Freedom wins big yet again.

4. Herndon (-8) @ Yorktown
- Co-game of the week. Lot of playoff seeding implications involved in this game but beyond that, I expect the Hornets to win against a weaker than usual Yorktown team.

5. Lake Braddock (-27) @ Robinson
- A once fabulous rivalry that has been one sided as of late. I miss the late ’00’s and the 2010’s when these two absolutely went at each other. I’m looking for Lake Braddock to win and eliminate Robinson from the playoffs in the process.

6. Lee @ Hayfield (-30)
- Hayfield wins big at home. They better start prepping for a road game in the first round against a formidable opponent.

7. Madison (-24) @ Centreville
- I know Madison doesn’t blow out many teams, but Centreville is not only bad but from the outside looking in, it appears they have checked out. Madison wins big.

8. McLean (-6) @ Langley
- Another good rivalry game. The McLean final last week raised eyebrows and I am not sure what’s going on over there but if they are healthy and last week was a fluke, they should be fine. This is another game that can cause some movement in the standings and I wouldn’t be surprised if Langley wins. You just never know in rivalry games.

9. Oakton @ Chantilly (-24)
- Doubtful Chantilly makes the playoffs, but you never know. Worst case scenario they can enjoy one last big win. Chargers big at home.

10. Stone Bridge (-35) @ Riverside
- Expecting Stone Bridge to continue their dominance of Loudoun schools. My question is, will Mickey play the same schedule next year or swap out the Good Counsels and Martinsburgs in their schedule. I know it’s a two year cycle, but I am expecting Mickey to try to get out of playing some of these schools again.

11. Stuart (-10) @ Falls Church
- The annual Bell Game. I ask the same question every week, will Falls Church score this week? I think yes, maybe 6 points. JEB wins by double digits on the road.

12. T.C. Williams @ Fairfax (-30)
- What a depressing year for the Titans, I’m sure they just can’t wait for it to end. I wonder if they’ll make a coaching change. Maybe Henderson goes back to T.C.? You never know. Anyway, Fairfax wins big at home in a appetizer of a game before the playoffs.

13. Wakefield @ Washington-Lee (-25)
- Wakefield surprised me last week in a competitive game against McLean. Can they keep it close against the Generals? My gut says no, W&L wins big at home.

14. West Potomac @ South County (-27)
- The Stallions better not look ahead to the playoffs, the Wolverines will come out swinging. The Stallions are still levels better, give me South County big at home.

15. West Springfield (-35) @ Woodson
- I don’t understand all the WTW talk on here, they are a bad team if I am being brutally honest. Expecting a running clock in the 2nd half of this one. Is Henderson on his way out?

16. Westfield @ South Lakes (-3)
Game of the week. Westfield is going to have to slow down South Lakes and their athletes or it could be 21-0 just like that. I believe Coach Simmons will have a solid game plan and he has 9 games of South Lakes film to study. Now, the Seahawks have 9 of Westfield’s games to look at. Coaching goes to Westfield, talent on the field goes to South Lakes but I hope everyone understands this is not a Westfield team we’ve seen the last few years. They are very good and I can see them upsetting the Seahawks on the road. Do I think it’ll happen? No. I think it will be a low scoring game, similar to South Lakes v. Madison and South Lakes wins a close one, late. Can’t wait to watch this one.

Correctly picked Annandale to win and cover. However, I’ll admit that I thought it would be 7-0, so clearly I didn’t give Annandale enough credit.

Correctly picked West Springfield to win and cover. I watched some of this game. It wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. West Springfield was up 21-0 at the half. In the closing seconds of the first half, Fairfax drove to the WS 24. With four seconds left, they passed on a field goal try. Fairfax’s kicker has the leg to make that field goal, so I don’t understand passing on getting the points. Fairfax has taken a step back, but how do you replace someone like Rojas.

No pick against a >35 point spread, per my policy.

Correctly picked Hayfield to win and cover.

No pick. See above.

This was probably my best pick. I took WL to win, but not cover. Got both of those right.

I took McLean to win, but not cover. I thought 35 was too high of a spread, so that was the reason. If it would have been something like 14, I would have taken them to cover. Surprised it was this close.

Took Madison to win and cover, so I got this half right.

Took Robo to win and cover. As much as Robo has declined this year ( and it’s sad to see, IMO), they still beat Woodson. TCW can’t say that. The spread should have been higher.

Correctly picked SoCo to win and cover. The final score was much closer than I expected.

Correctly picked West Potomac to win and cover. I can’t believe I only had to give 15 points. I wish Vegas were this easy.

You can’t get them all right. I really blew this one, especially since I expected an easy Yorktown win.

Curry is at a disadvantage, CYA football is so poorly managed by a fat lazy racist pos who has run that organization into the ground along with his mouth breathing idiot son. Tilly’s numbers are incredibly low by time kids get to hs and the kids that avoided CYa like the plague, it’s their first year playing football and starting from scratch.

I don't know about the Chantilly program, but with regard to Shields at Chantilly:
1. He had a very good team last year but they were, by far, senior heavy-more importantly, although good, they were not state championship material.
2. This year's team has a lot of sophomores and some kids who were backups last year-not a good recipe for a successful season. What kids they do have are also (generally) small and not exceptionally fast. The bigger issue was Resto's lack of loyalty to the program and his teammates, running as soon as he knew Centreville would struggle.

Shields is not the issue. He just does not have the talent this year. For comparison, Westfield's three teams from 2020-2022 were not good. But did people clammer for Simmons to be fired? No. Those who were knowledgeable knew the deal and the program went on under his leadership. So, disgruntled Centreville fans, accept reality.

Lmao except Westfield won like 5 state titles in 15 years. How about Cville?

What you’re not getting is why those kids left CVHS…..shields.
Also one of the reasons pple like to shit on them is because of the parents/boosters. They think they should be handed state titles m, you’d think they are the ones who won 5 states out of 15yrs with the way go about themselves. Delusional bunch. They think they’re a big time hs from Texas but sadly they aren’t. CVHS Oarents, stop trying to relive your hs days thru your kids, you’re all old, fat and nasty. Quit wearing shit so tight nobody wants to see your moose knuckles and saggy tits. The dads, you guys are gross trying to peep at the hs girls, no one is impressed with your midlife crisis cars.

29-23 for a school that was playing on ESPN less than 10 years ago, what a fucking joke. We need Haddock back.

I don't recall ever seeing anything like that.”

This is all coaching. Or lack there of. There are no position coaches, just coaches. Every coach thinks they are the OC. One coach draws plays on the sidelines during games, and they actually run those plays. This team should have won a few games. This is the worst coaching staff in the county. And I’m including the anklebiter coaches in FCYFL.

Oakton played harder than in other games. They went into the Westfield game really injured. But they were healthier against Madison. Madison wan not able to rub-it-in like they've done other years. We beat the spread. This was a moral victory.

Wasn’t Falls Church a playoff team a few years ago every year? What isn’t the coach doing now? I am in Arizona, hard to keep up!

Why would I come back, Fuck those crazy ass parents & their spoiled rotten ass kids who are too stupid to make recruiting easier by maintaining a 2.0
Leave my name out of your mouth, I will never coach at that place again.

You guys are hitting the nail on the head. The Cville fans that get on here and complain are delusional. The old staff only won in 2013/14 with an absolutely unreal roster. Just one of their top 5 or 6 players would be the best player in Fairfax County by a mile right now. And that team didn’t even win the Concorde in back to back years; they got beat by a massively less talent Westfield team.

Centreville is bang average outside of 3 or 4 seasons in the schools history and that won’t change. They’re horrible this year but will be back to their typical 7-3 type of season soon enough. They’ll beat the bad or average teams and lose to the good ones. Check the stats it’s engrained in the schools history.

Yeah they have mostly mediocre seasons with a few really good seasons sprinkled in, but I can understand the Centreville fans being upset after a 2-8 year

As much as CVHS fans yearn for Haddock’s “Glory Days” they need to remember he under achieved with all the talent that he had during that 8-10yr at period. He should’ve amassed 3-4 state titles easy if it were not for his old antiquated offense he ran, the wing-T. If he had Shields current offense system, which is multiple and able to spread or run power no way they do t win more instead you hand all that talent and speed so tight in their formations you made it easy for less talented defenses to play against you.

Usually when Cville has a bad season, they bounce back the next year so it wouldn’t shock me if they go 8-2 next year

Not with the current talent they have unless they REALLY develop them
