Hayfield runs goofy RPO’s with a QB who would suck in a middle school league, SoCo will blast them

VanAcker is in fact the OC at Hayfield. If you recall his last season as a head coach where he went winless. You’ll see the similarities.

Jerry only knows one speed. After lackluster showing against Chantilly, I expect soco to lay the 24 points. Wouldn’t be surprised if running clock territory.

Van Acker is on staff, but don’t think he is the OC. Hayfield has several sophomores and Freshman starting on varsity this year, including the QB. They will have some struggles.

Unless he’s Dash from the Incredibles, I highly doubt he’s enough to make a diff.

That’s facts, their QB sucks big time
Now we know why Aziz was on Twitter saying he was looking for QBs in the off season
Where did Van Acker go 0-10 at?

Robinson is looking like it will become the next Oakton. A once proud program flattened by losing a coach and making a bad hire.

Robinson does realize they don’t get the first draft pick, right?

I was driving around the Lake Barcroft area this morning, tons of single family homes and white people walking their dogs, it seems to me like there would be some football talent in that community which leads me to this, why is Justice so bad?

Centreville hasn't been very good this year, and that's a lot of points to give. I'll take Centreville to win, but not cover.

Washington-Lee wins and covers.

South County is really good this year. They'll win and cover.

I think Fairfax will bounce back. I'm taking them to win outright.

It's odd to see Lee in actual playoff position. But it's early in the season. Lee comes back to earth. Mt. Vernon wins and covers.

I'd give "game of the week" honors to Lake Braddock at Fairfax, but this should still be a good game. McLean has had a great start to their season. I'll take them to win and cover.

Normally, this game would be for last place in the Patriot, but this year, I think Robo is going to make a run for that (dis)honor. TCW has a "chance" to win? Yes, but that's because anyone who plays Woodson has a "chance" to win (and a very good one at that). I'm taking TCW to win and cover.

Wakefield is really bad. Edison wins and covers, easily.

West Po is catching Robo in a down year. West Po wins and covers.

This is Patriot v. Liberty. Liberty isn't at the level of National, but Patriot is still better. In such a battle, I'll take the Patriot team. West Springfield wins and covers.

I don’t understand how Hayfield can be so strong in basketball and baseball yet suck at football, the coaches need to be recruit those kids to play football.

There are probably a number of kids around there who can play, but the play for one of the private schools in the area. Justice also has a lot of kids whose parents aren’t from the U.S., and don’t understand HS sports. It’s also a tough place to get to if you don’t live in the area, and as you said, a lot the homes are pretty expensive, and coaches cant afford it. So no good coaches want to go there.

To your point, the right coach, who is willing to invest some time and effort into that community could be highly successful. But coaches like that are a hard find in FFX County.

Hayfield has been back to District champs, they are just a little young this year. They chose to play a tough out of district schedule.

It's not crazy.

West Potomac was lucky to beat Mt. Vernon (down 16-3 before a long weather delay), then beat a below average Centreville team.....then got humiliated by Lake Braddock.

W.P. is not strong this year.

Didn't get a chance to watch any of the games on Friday, but just about everything went as expected.

1. Centreville (-17) @ Oakton
- Centreville won and covered, 42-21.

2. Falls Church @ Washington-Lee (-35)
- W&L rolls 44-0. Falls Church has now been shutout 4 times in 5 games.

3. Freedom-Woodbridge (-35) @ Gar-Field
- Freedom blanks Gar-Field, 60-0.

4. Hayfield @ South County (-24)
- Make it 11 in a row in this series for the Stallions as they win easily, 53-9.

5. Lake Braddock (-6) @ Fairfax
- Lake Braddock won and covered, 21-9. Fairfax faced some real competition in their district in back to back games and folded.

6. Lightridge @ Langley (-7)
- Lightridge ruined Langley's Homecoming, escaping with a 30-29 win. I must say, this one did surprise me.

7. Lee @ Mount Vernon (-24)
- The Majors won 26-0, covering in the process but it was a close call.

8. Madison (-15) @ Chantilly
- "Madison is realistically 4 or 5 touchdowns better than Chantilly..." And they proved it, winning 55-14. Pretty rare to see Madison win by that much.

9. Marshall @ McLean (-3)
- This one definitely lived up to the Game of the week label. McLean won 27-24 in double overtime. Sounds like a fantastic ballgame! McLean moves to 5-0 on the year.

10. South Lakes (-10) @ Herndon
- South Lakes goes up the road and rolls, 35-7.

11. Stone Bridge @ Good Counsel (MD) (-14)
- Good Counsel won easily, 41-3. Stone Bridge is now 0-4 on the year, it was weird for me to even type that. At least they have a bye week to prepare for their district slate and I'm expecting some one sided results in those games. Next schedule cycle I'm sure Mickey will be reaching out to the JEB's and Wakefield's of the world. Best case scenario is a 5-4 finish for Stone Bridge and they will almost surely be on the road for the entire playoffs.

12. Stuart @ Westfield (-35)
- Westfield rolls, 59-0. Again, don't know why these two played each other. Respectfully.

13. T.C. Williams (-3) @ Woodson
- Woodson blows out the Titans, 42-14. That's a really bad look for T.C. What is going on in Alexandria? They have a whole entire city to get kids from and yet there's a real chance they go 0-10 this year.

14. Wakefield @ Edison (-21)
- Edison enjoys a nice 40-0 Homecoming win.

15. West Potomac (-14) @ Robinson
- Robinson wins a close and low scoring game, 7-3. Congrats to the Rams on their first win of the year.

16. West Springfield (-6) @ Yorktown
- The Spartans win and cover on the road, 14-7.

Week 5
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: September 24, 2023 10:12AM

We are now essentially at the mid-way point of the season. It always amazes me how fast the season comes and goes. Here are the power point standings after week 4:

Region C:
1. Lake Braddock (28.70)
2. South County (28.00)
3. West Springfield (27.00)
4. Fairfax (24.00)
5. Edison (24.00)
6. West Potomac (22.75)
7. Hayfield (21.20)
8. Robinson (21.00)

Region D:
1. McLean (30.40)
2. Madison (30.40)
3. Washington-Lee (28.80)
4. South Lakes (28.00)
5. Westfield (25.50)
6. Chantilly (24.40)
7. Langley (23.80)
8. Marshall (23.60)

And now for this week’s slate:

1. Bishop Ireton (-21) @ Annandale
- Very unusual match-up here, I don’t know much about Ireton football, but I can tell you that they are at least 3 scores better than Annandale.

2. Chantilly @ South Lakes (-28)
- Going to be another rough week for the Chargers.

3. Edison (-28) @ Lee
- Looking for Edison to take the short drive down Franconia Road and win big.

4. Fairfax (-17) @ West Potomac
- Fairfax got their 2 toughest games on the schedule out of the way and I’m looking for them to get back on track in a big way on the road against a West Potomac team that is below average in my eyes.

5. Forest Park @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-42)
- The Eagles will continue to roll.

6. Hayfield (-35) @ Falls Church
- As I stated earlier, Falls Church has 6 total points on the year and has been shut out in 4 out of their 5 games. The good news for Hayfield is they only have National District games left on their schedule and they should win out. Looking for Aziz’s guys to go to his old stomping grounds and win big.

7. Herndon @ Washington-Lee (-5)
- Co-game of the week. Homecoming for the Generals as well as big district implications in this one. W&L can essentially make it very hard for Herndon to win the district with a win in this one. I’m expecting Herndon to come out swinging but at the end of the night, it won’t be enough. Give me the Generals at home.

8. Langley @ Marshall (-3)
- Marshall started out 3-0 before losing their last two and Langley is also 3-2 after a surprising loss to Lightridge. I can see this game going either way but I’m going to take the Statesmen to win a close game at home. Don’t be surprised if Langley wins, though.

9. Mount Vernon (-24) @ Stuart
- Looking for the Majors to get their 2nd game in a row against inferior National District competition.

10. South County @ Madison (-3)
- Game of the week. Homecoming game for the Warhawks as well. This is going to be an absolute slugfest between two powerhouses and I think it will be a close, physical game. I can see the Stallions going on the road and upsetting Madison, but it will be a tall task (especially with the Homecoming crowd). Giving Madison a slight nod in this one, really looking forward to watching this game also!

11. Westfield (-42) @ Wakefield
- Another game that should not be happening. Running clock in the 2nd half, Bulldogs win big.

12. West Springfield (-28) @ T.C. Williams
- Looking for the Spartans to go to Alexandria and win big against a T.C. team that is not good this year.

13. Woodson @ Lake Braddock (-35)
- Good win for the Cavs last week but it’s back to reality this week. The Bruins win big at home.

14. Yorktown (-3) @ Centreville
- Homecoming game for the Wildcats which is certainly in their favor, but with that being said, I think Yorktown is just a little bit better than Centreville. They are definitely better coached and I think Yorktown wins a close game late by a field goal or a late touchdown. This one should be competitive and close but I like the Patriots in this one.

South County at James Madison is likely a preview of the 6C/6D Northern Region Championship... you're right, it will be a loud home crowd -- this one will be physical, and personal.

parentof2 trek over to Vienna and join the festivities (really good pub two blocks away for pre-game)

We were never very good when I was there, Del-Ray has been redeveloped leading to more White families moving in replacing the Black families that lived there before. Look at TCW 15 years ago compared to now, football is the same.

Point being, because of the redevelopment of Alexandria City a whole, we aren’t getting the quality level players we once were. You also have to remember there’s 3 private schools in Alexandria. Bishop Ireton, St. Stephen’s, and Episcopal, so some kids take that route OR they go to a private school outside of city limits. That’s always been a big thing in Alexandria.

Football programs are generally a reflection the the school/community they represent. Alexandria City HS is a mess in terms of discipline and functionality of the school and so is their football program. Fairfax county is trending that way also and its football programs have largely taken steps backwards the last 10 years. It’s difficult to demand excellence on the field and in the weight room when mediocrity is accepted everywhere else.

Hit the nail on the head. Fairfax County schools are an absolute zoo. No rules, no accountability, no standards. The quality of football in the county is a reflection of that. There are only a few teams left that are solid year in and year out. One of them is Madison and they are an extreme outlier in terms of their demographics and community investment/pride in the school.

If McLean can win at least 8 games I give their coach the nod. However, the only sure win left on their schedule is Wakefield. Yorktown and Herndon would be the next easiest games. Washington-Liberty and Langley are potential losses.

If that doesn't happen either South County or Madison will get it if they win the region-that is what usually happens.

If you haven’t already, take a look at Woodson and their senior WR, #25 Vin Derosa. Don’t know where he came from, but he’s been quietly making noise this year on the talented Cavs offense. Keep and eye out for this kid and on Woodson as a whole. They have momentum after that beat down on TC. I expect them to keep rolling.

Too bad the QB throws the ball 15 feet over his head on a simple screen, Woodson sucks.

Ok now that any idiot kids are done talking about their classmates, let’s talk real talk.

Madison vs SoCo?

Will Hayfield keep imploding?

Is W/L for real?

Will Oakton go 1-9 or 2-8 for 2 years in a row?

Will Fairfax lose its 3rd in a row now that they don’t have any D1 recruits?

Let’s talk real talk!

Fairfax was exposed by not being able to tackle receivers will and had no defense to cover designed QB run(s)... there were two by Dennis on their 2nd touch down, really bad look for Fairfax.

In the upcoming SoCo / Madison game:
- Can the Warhawks' defensive rush pressure Dennis and stop his designed or scramble runs for gains (how good is SoCo's O-Line?)
- How good is the Warhawks' secondary coverage (speed and if Dennis goes into scramble mode do they spy him?)
- Warhawks' offense is methodical, but with big play capability... Yates can run/scramble too, dynamic WRs and RB. Is the SoCo defense up for this. Warhawks' RB Knicely didn't play for a lot of the Chantilly last week game after getting dinged up.
- Home Field... It is Homecoming weekend, Vienna shows up,
- This is a rivalry game between what has been the two strongest teams in NoVa the past 3-4 years that run deep into the playoffs
- Head Coaches -- Pannoni vs. Counts and the battle between their offensive and defensive coordinators.

1) Madison beats south county. Too physical. The South County QB doesn’t like running and getting hit.

2) Hayfield is awful. They would be winless in concord or Patriot. They’re irrelevant. Stop talking about them.

3)WL has a good O. We’ll know where they stand after they play Herndon this week. Herndon although back to being not good, have a decent D.

4) Oakton is putrid. Will go 1-9 or 2-8. The entire staff should be fired. Kids are transferring away left and right. Admin should hurry up and fire these loser coaches asap when season ends before any more kids quit or transfer out.

5)Fairfax season is on the line against west Potomac this week. The UGA kid that moved into their school over the summer quit on the team. He hated the head coach. Now he’s sitting out the year with a “hurt foot” telling all his friends “never transfer to Fairfax.”

First off he didn’t quit. He’s injured and needs surgery. He’s out for the year because he has a career beyond Fairfax waiting for him after his surgery. However - Fairfax is finished. But this isn’t news. Rojas was a once in a generation talent for them. This jones kid was good but he wasn’t Rojas. They got rolled by South County WITH this jones kid. From here on out Fairfax goes back to being mediocre at best. Most people know this already. Is what it is. And the head coach needs to change his ways if he wants to compete going forward in years to come. Pre Rojas he was in danger of losing his job and couldn’t even field a freshman or jv team. How soon people forget. They’ll be back to that in a couple years.

Great win for Herndon in double ot. W and l looked much better early but Herndon hung in there and after trailing by 10 late tied it. Both teams scored on their 4 ot possessions. W and l was gonna kick to send it to a third ot but penalty on kick so w and l went for 2 and the win - right before crossing the goal line w and l fumbled.

Great game. Herndon qb struggled most game but played a GREAT 4th quarter. Liberty district got tight!!!

Another week that flew by! @Hmm... I definitely would've taken you up on that offer! Unfortunately, after both of my sons graduated from college, me and my wife retired and moved to Florida! Tons of great football down here but I still stick to my NOVA roots. If you did decide to go to the pub and partake in the festivities, I hope you enjoyed yourself, cheers! Now to the results:

1. Bishop Ireton (-21) @ Annandale
- Ireton won 32-12, failing to cover.

2. Chantilly @ South Lakes (-28)
- South Lakes won and covered, 49-14. I think the Seahawks can challenge Madison. Not saying they can beat them, but they can challenge them.

3. Edison (-28) @ Lee
- Edison indeed wins big, 41-0. Back to back shutouts for the Eagles.

4. Fairfax (-17) @ West Potomac
- Fairfax won rather easily, 35-7.

5. Forest Park @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-42)
- Freedom won 64-6. Looks like their JV kids gave up a late touchdown.

6. Hayfield (-35) @ Falls Church
- Hayfield blanked Falls Church 46-0. That's now 6 points in 6 games for the Jaguars, including 5 shutouts. I can't recall seeing a team with offensive numbers that poor.

7. Herndon @ Washington-Lee (-5)
- Herndon upsets the Generals on the road in double OT, 38-37. Kudos to Herndon for going on the road in front of a big Homecoming crowd and prevailing. W&L was down 10 in the 4th quarter and showed a lot of fight by coming back and tying the game with 4 minutes to go, but it ultimately wasn't enough. That's also two double OT games in the Liberty District in as many weeks. Very intriguing conference.

8. Langley @ Marshall (-3)
- I was completely wrong on this one, shame on me. Langley won big, 33-10. Marshall started out 3-0 and have completely imploded since.

9. Mount Vernon (-24) @ Stuart
- Mount Vernon won and covered, 35-0. JEB has 7 points on the year and has been shutout in 4 of their 5 games. Combine that with Falls Church and that's 13 points scored and 487 points given up between the two teams. Just horrible football in that area of the county.

10. South County @ Madison (-3)
- Madison won 21-14 and this was indeed the game of the week. I'm looking for these two to meet again in November. I watched this game and have some takeaways. Madison has a very good and physical offensive line and it showed when they went for it on 4th and goal in the 1st to go up 7-0. Madison dominated the 1st quarter. I also want to say I loved their red homecoming jerseys. Madison missed a FG early in the 2nd which would have made it 10-0 and the Stallions then responded with a touchdown to make it 7-7 with 6:30 left in the half. Madison's QB had a bad throw into double coverage in the end zone right before the half which I thought was ill advised. Madison obviously game planned for Jordan Dennis's ability to run and they mostly held him in check in that sense. Madison got the ball to start the 3rd and they scored to go up 14-7. They then forced Dennis into a wild RB toss (fumble) which took the Stallions back to their own 15 and at that point Madison had all of the momentum. Just when I thought Madison was going to pull away, Dennis completed a 40 yard pass under immense pressure, this was halfway through the 3rd. It was a hell of a play to keep the drive alive and they ended up tying the game at 14 a piece with 4:22 in the 3rd. Madison scored to make it 21-14 with 5:43 left, which is more than enough time for the Stallions to score. Dennis had what I thought was a big completion for 30 yards with about 4 minutes left but the refs ruled it incomplete. Madison then had 2 big sacks with 3 and 2 minutes left to secure the win. Madison is also very sound on defense. All in all, that was a fantastic game and I really hope we get a rematch.

11. Westfield (-42) @ Wakefield
- Westfield won 45-7, failing to cover. I was expecting a final score similar to the JEB game.

12. West Springfield (-28) @ T.C. Williams
- Looking for the Spartans to go to Alexandria and win big against a T.C. team that is not good this year.

13. Woodson @ Lake Braddock (-35)
- Lake Braddock won 43-15, failing to cover. This game was closer than the score indicates.

14. Yorktown (-3) @ Centreville
- Yorktown won 28-21. Centreville scored a TD with about 30 seconds left in the game to make the score a little closer.

Week 6

Power Point standings after Friday night’s games, some movement, but not much:

Region C:
1. Lake Braddock (29.33)
2. South County (27.83)
3. West Springfield (27.60)
4. Edison (25.20)
5. Fairfax (25.17)
6. West Potomac (22.40)
7. Hayfield (22.17)
8. Robinson (21.40)

Region D:
1. Madison (31.33)
2. McLean (30.80)
3. South Lakes (29.33)
4. Washington-Lee (27.67)
5. Westfield (26.60)
6. Herndon (25.67)
7. Langley (25.67)
8. Yorktown (24.83)

And now for this week's slate:

1. Annandale (-15) @ Stuart
- JEB has 7 points on the year, and while I'm expecting them to score maybe once, give me Annandale by double digits.

2. Fairfax (-24) @ Woodson
- Fairfax got back on track last week at West Potomac and while Woodson has shown some fight at some points this year, they are worse than West Potomac. Fairfax wins this rivalry game big on the road.

3. Falls Church @ Mount Vernon (-28)
- The question here is, will the Jaguars score this week? Mount Vernon wins their Homecoming game big.

4. Freedom-Woodbridge (-50) @ Colgan
- I’m sure some of you will read this and say Freedom -50? Yes, Freedom by at least 50. They were beating Colgan 91-0 at halftime last year and won 112-16. Keep that in mind when you see the final on Friday night.

5. Hayfield (-3) @ Edison
- The annual Bird Bowl. Hayfield has 20 in a row in this series with Edison’s last win coming in 1989. I’m expecting this to be a hard fought game with a lot of pride on the line. I think Hayfield forces a turnover late or something like that and narrowly escapes on the road with a win. However, I can also see Edison doing the same. Should be a good game between two lower tier teams.

6. Herndon (-8) @ Chantilly
- Another interesting game. It’s Homecoming for Chantilly so that does benefit them but I feel like Herndon is still the better team despite that and they will wear Chantilly down. Give me Herndon by 10ish on the road.

7. Madison (-7) @ Westfield
- Game of the week. Counts vs. Simmons, 2 perennial powerhouses (if you still want to call Westfield that), and 2 teams that will always be competitive. I’m expecting this game to be close but Westfield has to understand they aren’t playing JEB or Wakefield this week. They’re playing a team that’s better than those 2 combined. Game plans and execution are going to be big in this one and after watching Madison on Friday, I’m expecting them to stay undefeated. But it won’t come easy.

8. Potomac Falls @ Stone Bridge (-24)
- Stone Bridge is finally finished with that grueling gauntlet they had to start the season. Potomac Falls is 3-2 but Stone Bridge has had 2 weeks to prepare for this one. I’m expecting Stone Bridge to release a ton of steam and blow them out of the water.

9. Robinson @ West Springfield (-28)
- To keep it short, the Spartans will prove to be too much for the Rams.

10. T.C. Williams @ South County (-30)
- The Stallions get a bad T.C. team coming off a loss. Looking for the Stallions to come out angry and take it out on the Titans. Potential for a running clock in the 2nd half in this one.

11. Thomas Jefferson @ Lee (-6)
- The one game of the year where TJ plays an actual team. To be fair, I think they would be competitive with Wakefield, JEB, Falls Church, etc. and they should look to schedule some of those teams. With that being said, they are still bad (worse than Lee) and it’s Homecoming for the Lancers so I’m giving them the slight nod.

12. Wakefield @ Langley (-28)
- Not much to say here either. Langley wins big at home.

13. Washington-Lee (-17) @ Marshall
- Marshall started out strong and has struggled since. W&L is coming off a heartbreaker and after a reality check, I think they will be ready to go and will bounce back at Marshall.

14. West Potomac (-14) @ Oakton
- Oakton is coming off a bye week and although West Potomac has struggled this year, I still believe they are 2 scores better on the road than the Cougars. Give me West Potomac by 2+ scores.

15. Yorktown @ McLean (-3)
- Co-game of the week. The Liberty District has been a real treat this year. McLean is looking to go 6-0 for the first time since 2010 and if you told me in August that they would be in this position, I’d say you’re crazy. Yorktown is 4-2 and has the better coaching, which should keep them in this one but I’m looking for McLean to squeeze out a close win at the end.

Freedom gets away with more blatant cheating than Stone Bridge, it’s incredible VHSL does nothing about it

I’m a Lake Braddock alumni but I can’t understand why they are above the stallions. The bruins are clearly the weaker team.

@Burke Enthusiast

Lake Braddock is 5-1
South County is 4-2

…bottom line — not enough power points from wins (yet) for South County vs Lake Braddock irrespective of strength/weakness of either team.

It doesn’t really matter at this point. Lake Braddock and South County will play each other in a few weeks so it will sort itself out.

I’m expecting Yorktown to win solely because of better coaching, regardless McLean being 5-0 is absurd and wildly impressive

If Westfield can slow the game down and not turn the ball over, they can beat Madison.

It’s even more impressive when you consider they went 1-9 last year.
