Great point Muran!!

Thanks to WF's LB #41 for blowing the game for WF!!! Drink up boys, it's going to be a long season!!

LB beat two awful teams, congrats!!

________________________________________________________________________

You mean #41 who was all over the field on defense, name called on what, like 14 or 15 tackles?

You mean #41 who had 1 catch for a 46 yard TD?

You mean #41 who actually did tip the ball? Previous post was correct, ball was deflected.

The SOCO punter averaged 40 yards in the air on every punt with the exception of the last one. It traveled 25 or so, also changed direction when it left his foot.

The ref who blew it was the same one that failed to see one of SOCO's return men step into the end zone with his left foot on a 30 plus yard kick return in the second half.

The officiating was typical high school officiating.

Plus, IF Westfield had got the ball back there was over a minute to play, think they might of had 1 timeout. You really think their offense, which had done pretty much nothing all night, was going to score a TD?

What game were you watching?!

In high school football it is the position of the football in relation to the goal line. Even though his foot was in the end zone the ball did not cross the plane of the goal line. It works the other way also, if the returner is out of the end zone but the ball crosses the plane it is whistled dead.

Can't kick it 40 yards when someone crushes your leg on the follow through! Thanks again #41, you suck!!

What's the matter Punt? You sad cause you're kids riding the pine behind #41?

Don't worry, he'll get s chance to play next year since #41 will be playing in college!

And once again, as the previous post suggests even if Westfield had gotten the ball back there was a little over a minute to play. They had one timeout, maybe none. Their offense was horrid, unless they scored on defense or special teams Westfield wasn't beating SOCO!

Annandale (-31.0) @ Stuart
May not be that close

Broad Run @ Centreville (-7.0)
Centreville covers. Barely.

Chantilly @ Stone Bridge (-6.0)
*I can see this game going either way; I just have trouble envisioning SB dropping two in a row and with this one at home I don’t think it will happen.

I agree with Steve.

Fairfax (-10.0) @ Woodson
Woodson covers. Loses, by 7.

Falls Church @ Herndon (-3.0)
The Jags pull off the "Upset" and get declared the tallest midget in the circus.

Hayfield @ South County (-25.0)
Don't think the Hawks have the staying power. Or stopping power. SC by 4 tds

Lake Braddock (-7.0) @ Robinson
Ill take the purple and gold guys.

Langley @ Potomac Falls (-10.0)
Langley Loses but covers.

Madison (-21.0) @ McLean
Madison covers.

Marshall (-1.0) @ Edison
Parents won't even go to this one. We'll have to get results from the referees notes. Marshall, I guess.

Mount Vernon (-28.0) @ Jefferson
MV continues their delusions of grandeur tour before it all comes to a crashing halt in conference play.

Oakton @ Tuscarora (-10.0)
Huskies win and cover

Washington-Lee (-6.0) @ Wakefield
w&L because ties don't count and someone has to be declared the winner.

West Potomac (-7.0) @ Briar Woods
WP wins and covers.

West Springfield (-45.0) @ Lee
This game may be delayed due to smoke coming from the scoreboard. Lee is a bad, bad team. Steve put this at 45 because 70 just seemed mean.

Yorktown @ South Lakes (-7.0)
South Lakes in a close one.

Westfield (-14.0) @ TC Williams
Westfield has a mad one about last week and TCs going to feel the brunt of it.

They are pretty darn good. In my opinion they don't have the top end talent as LB but they will be a tough out. LB need to bring the A game. I think in the end though LB will be too much for ROB. Oakton, Robinson, Chantilly seem to have kicked it up a notch this season - Centreville/Westfield not as far ahead as the last 2 seasons I think. Centreville's transfers could make the difference for them by end of the season - they got some new kids that can make an impact.

Agreed with above comments, however, once the 6 starters for Westfield return that's a pretty darn good team. They've got one of the best defenses in the area. When the 5 offensive starters come back they'll have a unit that will be able to sustain drives and keep the D fresh unlike last Friday night against SOCO. Westfield's D was on the field for 71 plays, their O only had 43, big impact when playing an up tempo offense.

If there is any good news for Westfield in regard to their suspended players at least their backups are getting valuable playing experience. Should help them down the road. Really all that matters anymore for any of these teams is to finish in the top 16 so you qualify for post season.

I think a little too much is made about home field advantage as it pertains to playoffs. It's not like the home team has that many more fans in the stands. It's different at the college or pro level cause there's 50K plus fans in the stadiums, not so in high school. Pretty much the teams playing the best ball in the latter half of the season are going to do well regardless of where they play.

I don't know that home field advantage should be taken that lightly. Yes, at the end of the day playing good football late usually bodes well in the playoffs but home field advantage definitely plays a role. I go back to 2011 when SC was still classified as D5 and played Hanover for the Semis. As a player and coach having to travel long distance, which generally is not the norm, and coming into an environment that can be extremely intimidating is a difficult task. That stadium was downright unhinged and as that game went on the crowd definitely had an impact on Hanover, coaches and kids alike. Home field advantage is something worth playing for especially late into the playoffs.

I agree with you 100% in your scenario, that definitely would be an advantage for the home team. My comment was more about home field in the 6A North playoffs. The travel time really is not a factor given the area from which the teams participating are locted. It really boils down to who the better team is and who's playing better ball. Now the 6A South is a different story with how spread that entire bracket is with teams from Prince William county, through Richmond, down to the beach area.

I have also thought that home field advantage in high school football is really minimal in the playoffs. Within a reasonable travel situation - say less than an hour.

Recent 6A North Playoff road wins:

2014
Chantilly traveled to Hayfield last year and won 49-35
2013
Robinson traveled to Patriot and won 35-13.
Stonewall Jackson on the road against Langley won 51-48
Westfield knocked off Lake Braddock on the road 19-16

I agree with you. I don't know what to make of Centreville this year. Annandale came close to beating them, and they didn't win in convincing fashion against Fairfax (which, by the way, is another team that I don't know what to make of this year)

Stone Bridge may not be as good as they usually are. That loss to Madison may not have been the fluke that it otherwise appeared to be. I'll expect a close game, which means that I'd take Chantilly if they are getting points.
>
> Fairfax (-10.0) @ Woodson

You do know that Woodson has lost by scores of 31-14 at home to Chantilly and 56-0 @ Robinson, don't you? Fairfax isn't in the same league at Robo or Chantilly, but they did beat Herndon convincingly, and didn't show too badly against Centreville. Also, Steve has, over the last two years of having an uncanny ability to accurately predict spreads in Fairfax games (he nailed it last week). I look for Fairfax to win and cover.

SC wins. I don't know if it will be by four TD's. Hayfield was the conference 6 favorite preseason, but they certainly haven't looked the part.

I agree.

I'll go out on a limb and say Langley wins. They are 0-2, and I have trouble believing that Langley is as bad as an 0-2 record indicates.

Agree. Mclean looks bad this year.

I agree. Marshall gets a boost by winning v. McLean last week. For them, this is something to build on.

I agree with you, but you don't say whether MV wins and covers. I think they do. Losses will start next week.

Agree. I'm not sold on Oakton.

WL wins, but doesn't cover. Close game.

No argument from me on this one.

This is the most difficult game to call. Given how bad they were last year, I find it hard to believe that SL is good this season. However, I've always thought that the new Conference 6 teams would struggle against their new competition. I'm making no prediction here.

Westfield wins and covers. This spread is too low.

Easy to pick winners when it is a mismatch.

Let me lay some truth on y'all...

Centreville, Langley, Herndon, Briar Woods all win in games where point spread is close, including Langley winning outright despite being an "underdog."

Madison, West Springfield, and Westfield all cover their games in routs.

Cville should tonight what they are....small, slow, weak, no depth. Haddock doesn't have the line to run his wings n things nor the backs. Penalties and turnovers. They will be lucky to be 5-5. Don't see them beating Tuscarora, lake Braddock, Westfield. They will need to beat Robinson, Oakton, Chantilly, Herndon to go 6-4. Whoever is the defense coordinator needs to be fired. Broad run ran the same play all night and Cville made no adjustments. Broad run simy beat the Cvilles ass tonight. Poor coaching Cville.

Annandale (-31.0) @ Stuart
*Annandale won 37-17.

Broad Run @ Centreville (-7.0)
*Broad Run won 56-21. I knew Centreville could very well lose this one but I am having trouble wrapping my head around the domination by Broad Run. I don't think Haddock has ever been blown out at Centreville and I still thought Centreville had a very solid group minus the explosive play makers of the past few special years. Maybe I have been giving this group too much credit. I'm just going to leave this with a WOW for now.

Chantilly @ Stone Bridge (-6.0)
*Stone Bridge won 42-28. I went to this one and I think both teams are really solid. I'm not saying Chantilly is necessarily above 6-4, but they have their most complete offense I've seen in the past 5 years. They will be a dangerous playoff matchup, similar to last year where they suprised Hayfield and gave Westfield a close match. Stone Bridge has their typical big lines and the QB is a great dual threat. I haven't seen Madison, but I'm suprised Stone Bridge went down. They are definitely more run-oriented than some of their really talented past rosters, but they're still legit. I think the Stone Bridge-Westfield game will be a fun one next Friday.

Fairfax (-10.0) @ Woodson
*Woodson won 36-25. I almost never see Fairfax play, but its been a while since I picked an incorrect winner in this series. Good win for the Cavs and glad to see the early strength of schedule could benefit them in a game like tonight.

Falls Church @ Herndon (-3.0)
*Herndon won 28-14. Good showing for the Hornets. The Jaguars have definitely taken a step back this year, missing their senior class from last.

Hayfield @ South County (-25.0)
*South County won 70-29. Stallions are definitely a team to beat. In Fairfax I think your top tier is Westfield, SC, and Lake Braddock; then several Concorde schools aren't far behind. Like I said before the season it's going to be a fun playoff as it really is up for grabs this season.

Lake Braddock (-7.0) @ Robinson
*Lake Braddock won 21-14. Love nailing a spread. Lake Braddock was definitely the better team though jumping out to a 21-14 lead.

Langley @ Potomac Falls (-10.0)
*Potomac Falls wins 26-6. This is definitely the strongest team Pot Falls has had probably in their school's history.

Madison (-21.0) @ McLean
*Madison won 30-0.

Marshall (-1.0) @ Edison
*Marshall won 30-20. When was the last time Marshall had a winning record? Huge win for them to get to 2-1 and they haven't played the 3 weakest teams on their schedule yet. It'll be a great year for them. But they will get spanked next week against Pot Falls.

Mount Vernon (-28.0) @ Jefferson
*Mount Vernon won 40-18. TJ has come short of the spread 2 straight weeks after their disastrous opener.

Oakton @ Tuscarora (-10.0)
*Tuscarora won 28-14. Great night for Loudoun football, maybe I have to start watching that more and posting in the Loudoun section. Come on Fairfax County!

Washington-Lee (-6.0) @ Wakefield
*Wakefield won 13-0, need some work on my Arlington knowledge.

West Potomac (-7.0) @ Briar Woods
*West Potomac won 29-27 after a frantic Briar Woods comeback.

West Springfield (-45.0) @ Lee
*West Springfield won 34-7.

Yorktown @ South Lakes (-7.0)
*South Lakes wins 25-14 with two late scores. As I said, Coach Taylor is doing a great job with this group and this is a much improved Seahawks team.

Chantilly held their own vs. Stone Bridge. The game was in the balance until SB QB #4 took over the game RUNNING the ball in the second half. Reminded me of Kyle Downer from a few years ago (although he throws a much better ball). Stone Bridge caught a few lucky breaks over the course of the game. Chantilly is clearly an improved team compared to their last two seasons. They are not going to be an easy team for anyone to beat. #72 on their defensive line was impressive.

I am shocked to see that Centreville score. This was a bad night for Concorde District football.

I see a 3 way split again for the patriot dust. Sc, LB and WS. SC over WS, WS over LB and LB over SC like last year. After the first round you'll have to travel to rolling road and lorton to watch D6 playoff football.

Concorde has always been better because they have all jimmy and joe's on their roster while the rest of region has habib's and hernandez's on their roster. White and black kids will always be better at football.

As has been chronicled before until teams other than those in Concorde can win any state championships who cares....lot of glow but no real fire from Lake Braddock, SOCO, West Springfield, and in Loudon County except for Stone Bridge who won one state championship and Battlefied. The rest just a bunch of glow....

Agree, how many years have we heard smack from SOCO, Braddock, others. Stand up and actually do something first. Starting to see that now with the Loudon teams. Of course the Concorde teams are down this year but in the broader scheme Loudon also needs to do something first before popping off.

Saw the Mt Vernon -Jefferson game. Mt Vernon has some small really quick backs who can make some big plays, but I was really impressed with Jefferson's QB. He really threw the ball well, and he is a good runner, too. I know he wasn't facing a good defense, and maybe he just had a abnormal good night, but he is an impressive athlete and he's not very big.

---------------------------

Barely? They might have only won by 15 but TC Williams had zero chance. They did nothing on offense. It was 21-0 at half and typical Westfield fashion their coaches stopped coaching on offense. Only score from TC was latr 4th quarter on a 100 INT. for some inexplicable reason Westfield threw the ball first and goal at the 5. Westfield's coaches, especially offensive coordinator and O line coaches need to stop getting outcoached!

The Patriot District is certainly good this year but is so funny what an inferiority complex they have with the Concorde. The fact is the history isn't close. Middle of the pack Concorde teams, Oakton and Robinson, have lost to the Patriot's best by 7, and Westfield missing 6 starters almost beat South County. The Concorde is a bit down this year, but all the teams except Centreville are still capable of beating anyone on a given night.

3 of the Patriot District's wins last night were against Lee, Stuart, and TJ; can we even count those? The Patriot District is 3 deep, the Concorde is 5 deep. I have little doubt as it does every November that the depth of conference will equate to deeper playoff runs for the Concorde. We might very well have a Patriot region champion this year but again stop comparing yourself to the Concorde and just play football.

A lot of great games again this week. I may alter some later in the week but had some time to get it done today.

Broad Run (-17.0) @ Briar Woods

Centreville @ Tuscarora (-8.0)
*Curious to see how the Wildcats respond to being drubbed. I have trouble imagining it two straight weeks, but it is definitely possible playing a team the caliber of Tuscarora on the road. Still I look for this one to be close.

Chantilly (-16.0) @ Herndon

Jefferson @ Edison (-14.0)

Lake Braddock (-10.0) @ West Potomac
*I lied I think the Patriot is 4 deep, West Potomac is pretty legitimate this year. This should be a good game.

Langley @ Madison (-10.0)

McLean @ South Lakes (-21.0)

Oakton (-1.0) @ Robinson
*I think Oakton is good at keying on the run, this will be a good Concorde showdown though that could go either way.

Potomac Falls (-24.0) @ Marshall

South County (-10.0) @ West Springfield
*A great game worth keeping an eye on.

Stone Bridge (-6.0) @ Westfield
*Assuming Westfield’s starters are still suspended, any update?

Stuart @ Lee (-7.0)

TC Williams (-20.0) @ Mount Vernon

Woodson @ Annandale (-8.5)
*We can only hope it’s like last year’s shootout.

Wakefield (-7.0) @ Falls Church
*This might very well decide the conference 13 championship. Kind of sad?

Washington Lee @ Hayfield (-10.0)

Yorktown (-10.0) @ Fairfax

Can you figure out the D5 Power Points for us?

Also, can you share the VHSL formula?

VHSL Power Point Formula Explanation

D5 is very much alive! Wrote:
-------------------------------------------------------
> Also, can you share the VHSL formula?

Below is the short short [sic] version of how the VHSL Football Power Points work:

1. Game Points: A team gets 26 points for a win against a 6A team, 14 points for a loss against a 6A team. 24 points for a win against a 5A team, 12 points for a loss against a 5A team. And so on.

2. Bonus Points: A team also gets bonus points for every game they play based on a combination of a) the number of wins their opponent has and b) whether they win or lose each game.

If a team wins a game, they get 2 bonus points for each win the team they defeated has. For example, if you defeat a team that is 2-8 for the season you get 4 bonus points (2 wins x 2 bonus points/win).

If a team loses a game, they get 1 bonus point for each win the team they lost to has. For example, if you lose to a team that is 8-2 for the season you get 8 bonus points (8 wins x 1 bonus point/win).

3. Classification Points VHSL also gives bonus points for a higher classification team playing a lower classification team. If a 6A team plays a 5A team within their own DISTRICT they get 2 bonus points. This way they are not penalized for playing a lower classification team at all. If 6A team plays a 5A team outside their own DISTRICT they get 1 bonus point. This partially makes up for playing a lower classification.

Examples

Westfield
Game #1 (Westfield 30, Washington-Lee 10)
1. Game Points: Win against 6A team = 26 points
2. Bonus Points: Washington-Lee has 1-2 record. Formula = 1 win x 2 points/win = 2 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 6A = no points
Total: 28 points

Game #2 (South County 26, Westfield 19)
1. Game Points: Loss against 6A team = 14 points
2. Bonus Points: South County has 3-0 record. Formula = 3 wins x 1 point/win = 3 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 6A = no points
Total: 17 points

Game #3 (Westfield 21, T.C. Williams 6)
1. Game Points: Win against 6A team = 26 points
2. Bonus Points: T.W. Williams has 1-2 record. Formula = 1 win x 2 points/win = 2 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 6A = no points
Total: 28 points

Season Total = 73 points / 3 games = 24.33

Centreville
Game #1 (Centreville 27, Annandale 17)
1. Game Points: Win against 6A team = 26 points
2. Bonus Points: Annandale has 1-2 record. Formula = 1 win x 2 points/win = 2 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 6A = no points
Total: 28 points

Game #2 (Centreville 28, Fairfax 6)
1. Game Points: Win against 6A team = 26 points
2. Bonus Points: Fairfax has 1-2 record. Formula = 1 win x 2 points/win = 2 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 6A = no points
Total: 28 points

Game #3 (Broad Run 56, Centreville 21)
1. Game Points: Loss against 5A team = 12 points
2. Bonus Points: Broad Run has 4-0 record. Formula = 4 wins x 1 point/win = 4 points
3. Classification Points: 6A vs 5A (out of district) = 1 point
Total: 17 points

Season Total = 73 points / 3 games = 24.33

Okay. But didn't two players touch the ball after it was tossed by the qb? QB to RB to WR/RB.....pass to streaking WR?

It was a gutsy call to make from your own endzone, especially after Hayfield had scored the last three time they had the ball (albeit once on downs and then on a bad snap to the punter).

No only the RB touched the ball after the QB tossed it to him. He reverses out and then tosses the ball to the RB coming the other way. The RB sprints to the offenses right pulls up and throws it to a wide open receiver.

Yes, Cville lost by 35 points at home. Cville is not half the team they were last year. However, broad run is not just any ordinary D5 team, they're usually in the top tier of d5 with with Stone bridge, Briar woods, and tusky.

In two of the last three Stone Bridge games I have been to Coach Thompson has drawn a penalty for abusing referees while throwing a temper tantrum over a call. Both of them were close calls - maybe he was right - maybe not, but neither case appeared to be an absolute clear-cut wrong call. What’s with this dude and has he always been like that? I know he’s been around forever but I didn’t know he had rep for being a hothead. And what kind of example is this to show to high school kids?

Speaking of Stone Bridge, I didn’t think their line play looked as strong as the past several years and other than their QB they don’t seem to have any game-breaking playmakers on offense or special teams. Their running game appeared pretty weak. They have a couple of big tight ends that run good routes and can catch the ball. They are playing a lot of underclassmen on defense.

Even so, they are a solid program and I agree with putting them as the favorites to win this game. Westfield’s offense will have a hard time scoring enough points and I think #4 will make enough plays to win this one for SB. I would think like a 24-17 game. Maybe WFD kicker can actually hit a FG this week.

Interesting about Thompson, I heard that his team several years ago showed a lack of class after they lost the state final game during the post-game festivities. I think if you search on this board, you can probably find the thread.

He's been a successful coach and he's had successful teams, but you are not the first person to take note of Thompson's temperment.

In any event, it may be a moot point going forward, as the word on the street is that he will step down once his senior QB son graduates this year.

Well, Westfield has their top RB back this week from suspension so they actually have a threat in the run game. That will be a big plus for their struggling offense. They've put a couple of their defensive players at the TE and FB position as well to help shore up the blocking.

Also remember that Westfield's strength is their defense, the starting unit has only given up 26 points, all to SOCO. The 10 W&L scored was against 2nd and 3rd string, the 6 T.C. Williams got was on an INT return for TD. I know 26 against SOCO doesn't seem impressive but the Stallions average 58.5 in their other two contests. Not against powder puff teams either, Briar Woods and Hayfield.

Should be a good game either way.

Here goes:

Broad Run (-17.0) @ Briar Woods
Broad Run. If not for a KO return to the house and a pick 6 last week, Briar Woods/West Po would have been a LOT worse. BW isn't a very good team right now.

Centreville @ Tuscarora (-8.0)
*Curious to see how the Wildcats respond to being drubbed. I have trouble imagining it two straight weeks, but it is definitely possible playing a team the caliber of Tuscarora on the road. Still I look for this one to be close.

I think there'll be putting doses of pride in the C'ville water bottles. C'ville wins this.

Chantilly (-16.0) @ Herndon

Chantilly wins and covers. Herndon's not a very good football team.

Jefferson @ Edison (-14.0)

Edison wins, but not by that much.

Lake Braddock (-10.0) @ West Potomac
*I lied I think the Patriot is 4 deep, West Potomac is pretty legitimate this year. This should be a good game.

West Po gets the purple monkey off its back.

Langley @ Madison (-10.0)

Madison wins and covers.

McLean @ South Lakes (-21.0)

South Lakes wins, but doesn't cover.

Oakton (-1.0) @ Robinson
*I think Oakton is good at keying on the run, this will be a good Concorde showdown though that could go either way.

It's going to depend on whether Robinson's defense steps up. I'll take Oakton.

Potomac Falls (-24.0) @ Marshall

Potomac Falls, wins and covers.

South County (-10.0) @ West Springfield
*A great game worth keeping an eye on.

My heart says West Springfield in an upset.

Stone Bridge (-6.0) @ Westfield
*Assuming Westfield’s starters are still suspended, any update?

I'll take Stone Bridge to win and cover.

Stuart @ Lee (-7.0)

What about a push? Are pushes allowed? If I had to take one, I'll take Lee, but they won't cover that spread.

TC Williams (-20.0) @ Mount Vernon

Down Goes Majors! Down Goes Majors! TC smokes MV like a pack of Kools. Welcome to Conference 7, Coach Wells. The guy at the gate will validate your parking.

Woodson @ Annandale (-8.5)
*We can only hope it’s like last year’s shootout.

I don't know why, but I'm going with Woodson on this one.

Wakefield (-7.0) @ Falls Church
*This might very well decide the conference 13 championship. Kind of sad?

I'll take Wakefield to cover.

Washington Lee @ Hayfield (-10.0)

Hayfield's going to have a mad on after last week. They win and cover.

Yorktown (-10.0) @ Fairfax

Yorktown wins and covers.

Watch the film, WS has no chance! Even if they have 22 Muskett's on the team, they would still lose by 30 points.

Soco is too much on both sides of the ball, and WS is probably spending most of their practices preparing for Soco's special teams. I have Soco big in this one!! Only thing WS might have is a bigger crowd, but they will be disappointed at the end of the night!

You need to chill about Muskett. WS has played 3 weak teams and you gonna claim Muskett is the best in the Conference? Get real.

Eh, that was a different person. Did not pick up someone else used that. Centreville is not underrated - they a good middle-of-the-road team.

Muskett gets his teeth knocked out by #55 on the second play of the game!! He won't last a quarter running the ball like he does against a defense like Soco has. The kid is good, but be realistic. He's all WS has, and Soco will be ready for him!

Keep in mind the QB ratings, and base it off of who they've played. WS has two awful teams and an average at best Robinson team, Soco three legit contenders and Clayton's only played in two of those games!

Like i said, Soco big in this one!!

Didn't they put 35 on Robinson. I don't think LB did that and they are ranked higher

WS qb is real good but they may not be deep enough. Soco will unravel and lose to WS in the playoffs

Briar woods is not good this and Westfields wasn't close to full strength and they still scored 19. WS is a lot better on offense

Simmons said two players will return for this week’s game against Stone Bridge, and the other four will return two weeks after that.

Note #9 RB Taevon Chapman-Greene and #27 DB Tavon Greene for Westfield are not the same person. I've seen some confusion on that because of the similar names.

SC #55 is strong with only 3 solo tackles and 5 total in 3 games but WS QB has a good supporting cast that will exploit the SC D weaknesses.

PS: Hayfield is not a contender and WF only hung in the game because the idiotic strategy to give them good field position on kick offs.

Pretty much agree with all your picks except these two. Langley lost to good teams and they struggle with teams that have speed, as far as I know Madison isn't a speed demon team. I don't know if they'll win but I think it will be a good game that they cover.

Mclean is just plain bad and looking down the barrel of an 0-fer season. When you lose to Marshall early and they're the softest team on your schedule then you know it's going to be a long season. The best chance at a W for them from here out is against Fairfax.

Westfield hung in the game because they play great defense, see the article above your post. Had nothing to do with field position, until their 5 suspended starters on offense return the D will have to carry them.

SOCO had over 70 offensive plays compared to WF's 40, on a warm night with a no-huddle offense. To only give up 26 wasn't bad, especially considering the long TD pass was third and long, blown coverage by the WF defender. Btw, the defender was filling in for the one lone defensive starter suspended for WF.

SOCO is a solid team, so is WS, should be a great game. But don't put too much into ratings, as the previous post suggested. If you roll up stats against weak defenses it's an overinflated rating.

I disagree with you and agree with Conf7 guy on Madison/Langley. I have trouble believing that Langley is as bad as their 0-3 record would suggest, but Madison is good this year, and I think they will cover.

I agree with you about McLean. South Lakes will win and cover. My quibble is that I think that McLean has a better shot at a win against WL than Fairfax.

_____________________________________________________________________

Doesn't really matter in the long run, even if true that gets you one victory. That's not going to help Centreville in the playoffs cause they're a shell of who they've been in the past.

Watched the Gameday Broadcast of the game, Centreville is not as big or strong along the trenches as they've been the past few years. That game against Broad Run was no fluke, Centreville is in for a long season no matter how many transfers Haddock has on his team.

By the way, it was also no secret when Wiggins played on Centreville's team a couple years ago his family lived in South Riding. He should have been at Freedom as he was his freshman year. I think Love also came from somewhere in the Loudon county area.

Bottom line it's impossible for FCPS or any school system to keep tabs on where these kids live as opposed to their home address. The officials in charge of this are actual teachers of the school the student attends. That's not a very good system but it is what it is.

For Haddock to cry foul is a joke, take the loss and suck it up like everyone else does. Didn't hear opponents for the past few years complaining about Centreville's transfers or juiced players for that matter!

Wiggins lived within the Cville lines. Be it an apartment with a family member. He wasn't the only one from freedom that did it too. Think two were at Westfield. Teachers are not the officials. The Sro officers look into that. Love was freshman at Cville so not sure where that info came from. True it's only one win. Question is..... Who told them about the player? Would love to see the list of transfers who played besides wiggins the last few years and the juiced players too. In the end they are not the same team as in the past. In fact this will be his weakest team at Cville.

Watch the Robinson film if you get a chance, they are awful! They had no clue, and played like it especially on offense. LB is a rival game, so no surprise Robinson played a little harder. Or could LB just not be that good?

I agree the QB for WS is good, but he is the only good player on the entire offense. Contain him, they have nothing. On D they are slow up front, and small everywhere else. They look like a bunch of midgets running around with their heads cut off.

Briar Woods knows how to win, so you have to prepare for them.

Please stop taking about Westfields players being suspended, isn't that excuse used up by now? Also, if Westfields kids had any pride they would of missed the party and focused on the upcoming season, don't let ignorance be an excuse for lack of offensive production and commitment to your team. They lost, deal with it!!

SC's #55 would destroy you just like he's going to destroy Muskett Friday night!!

Hayfield wins 6 games, that gets you into the playoffs last time I checked.

First off it's talking not taking. Second, I don't think it was meant as an excuse, just that with half their starters gone WF scored 19 against SOCO. The post was merely stating that the WS offense would be capable of putting points on the board and that the SOCO defense had not yet faced as potent as an offense.

It also has been talked about on this thread because it speaks volumes about the WF program. You think there are many teams that could lose half of their starters on offense and still compete with quality teams such as SOCO. Or for that matter lesser teams at all, so just relax.

Also, you think WF is the only high school that had players at parties, the weekend BEFORE school started? No, they just had the unfortunate luck that an idiot took pictures of the players. An idiot who returned home past curfew to an angry father who happens to be a principal in the FCPS system. An individual who in the past had attempted to bring down one of the other school's varsity programs as a result of his personal agenda/vendetta against the school.

So again, relax, and if you're tired of reading about it on this thread then don't log in!

Looking at game predictions How long is Fairfax going to go with that coach? He has a few good years with the Penn state guy, but friend say Centreville game and said it was the worst Wing T team he has ever seen. And to give up 24 points to Woodson in first half? Are they the next TJ?

The Northern Virginia dads are really all over this thread. We are all proud of our kids but to act like you are some guy that just happens to know a ton about a particular program without being and involved parent is pushing it....and a bit tiresome. We know the WF young man is a great linebacker and we can tell the WS QBs dad is proud of his son. He should be. SOCO dad is proud too. We get it. Some of these kids have committed and that is great. Pumping a kid here or lashing out will not get any college coach interested. And it won't win anyone a state title. Chill. Love to see some more of the non-trash talking, not overly defensive analysis that a few people bring here.

We could all sling in here about transfers, reclasses, refs, mean coaches, etc., but won't solve anything.

And come on guys, not too hard to know who is who here.

But let's be realistic and learn from the recent past:

6A - its WF or SOCOs to lose. Cville will improve off that loss and may be tough. The rest will take very special circumstances to beat them. As a dad at one of those other programs not anywhere mentioned on this thread, I hope they can do it

But LB/WS have good systems but likely not enough athletes/size for the long haul, even with very talented leaders behind center.

I live in our beloved Fairfax County, but it looks like the game is shifting west, just like it has very slowly for the past 30 years....following new family creation. To western Fairfax, with a few exceptions, and into LC. These teams have been good and getting even better, regardless of classification. With FC teams weakening a bit, it might be that time that you can say there are more very good LC teams than very good FC teams. Somebody here made a similar claim a week or so ago....totally logical.

Of course parents are on here, players as well, probably coaches too. I'm not sure who would be as interested in this thread as the afore mentioned. I agree with both of your posts, for the most part. Haven't really seen much boasting about any particular player other than the WS QB recently.

I especially agree with your point on the power shifting to LC, although just a few teams. These schools are being fed by newly developed, clean, fresh, upscale neighborhoods, similar to what FFX county was years ago. Many residents are just transplants from FFX looking to upgrade or move to a nicer location.
