Agree. I'm glad Marshall is having a good season, but this year, they are playing competition that is more appropriate for them. Madison will be one of the tougher games they have this season. FWIW, Marshall was blown out by South Lakes, and Madison is the better team.

> Chantilly by 30 or more over McLean.

I should agree, but McLean kept it close against Hayfield, so maybe they are turning things around there. On the other hand, maybe Hayfield isn't as good as advertised. Steve's line sounds about right.

Don't know much about Loudon football, so I can't comment.

Agree, but how many does Woodson score? I think a 35 point line sounds right.

I've seen Annandale play, and they are a better team than their record would suggest. I tend to agree.

Agree with all of these. I think Centreville gets a close win. They don't cover Steve's spread

To your list of blowouts, I'd add Langley over WL. I think Langley wins by 21.

Who gives a shit about regular season matchups it is about region titles and state championships. Oh I forgot apparently Westfield cares about them - king of the regular season, choker when it comes to real champ time. Sorry I even gave you credit as being second best in the region maybe should rethink that and give that distinction to someone other than the Buffalo Bills....

Until the win we don't want to hear how good they are. finish the season with just a northern region championship or just shut up. Nothing better then second best for over 8 years. Consistently good will give you that. But you haven't left northern Virginia for a long time.

You often get misleading impressions of schools enrollments when watching HS football games. Of the two SL home games I've been to this year D5 Briar Woods looked like it would have had a higher enrollment because they had a lot more players on the sidelines than SL watching while another D6 school, Mclean, looked like they had only a dozen other players on the sidelines and based on their size it looked like they dressed a lot of JV players. When we played Westfield in years past they always had tons of players dressed.

Looking at the base number of a schools population doesn't look at the true demographic make up of a school. While recent immigrants sometimes play football, for the most part it's a fairly low participation rate. Many of these large schools have as much as 50% population that are recent immigrants that are severely underrepresented on the football team. Most of these D 5s in outside fairfax have a larger pool of kids that are more likely to play football then do most of the D6's in fairfax.

They're both great programs although I'd hardly call it a "rivalry"...C-ville has to win a few games between them first!

Say what you want but during these last four years of Centreville’s return to power - there was only 1 year that Westfield did not beat Centreville at least once. No other team can say that.

Westfield won the Concorde/Conference 5 title in 2011, 2012, 2014 - not Centreville. Youi might want to discount that as meaningless but considering the talent Centreville had those years it’s something to be proud of.

There is NO DOUBT that the 2013 Centreville team would beat any other team in the Northern Region ever!!!! I have watched football around here a long time including the Westfield 2004 and 2007 teams (very good teams, I give it to you) but 2013 Cville team is best there has ever been around here....and maybe the state of Virginia.

Does no one take into account that if you're a Loudoun county student you can go to any Loudoun county high school under the premise they have available space? So you take the with the fact that all the Jimmy's and Joe's are moving out there, it's no mystery why their teams, the ones we're talking about, are so good. Very frustrating to hear D5 in LC better than D6 in Fairfax, imagine if Fairfax county had 4 or 5 super teams. Damn!

True, but Woodgrove is the only strong Loudoun school that kids from other Loudoun schools can attend AND then their parents have to get them there.
Broad Run, Stone Bridge, Tuscarora, and Stone Bridge are over capacity, so others CAN NOT enroll there.

You failed.

The Loudoun D5 schools are very competitive with the top Fairfax D6 schools, but even I wouldn't say they are better. Just better than any Fairfax school their size.

Would Oakton have shut down all of Cville's weapons from 2013 plus remember the defense for Cville in 2013 was fantastic with Chad Wiggins and others swarming and sacking everyone in sight?

Any Kid who submits himself to this band of brothers. Should be proud. I remember one game. VS Chantilly. I was a 2nd String center. We actually got to go on the field. We stated on our 30 ish, Fuzzy. We slowly marched down the field. I remember a 3rd down and long somewhere on their side o' the 50. I snaped the ball. Pass. I hit some Linebacker or I dont know who. Knocked that guy down and helped make the play. We ended up scoring a tD. I only got in once. One Drive as a Center. We Scored. TYhat was enough for me. So go on. Keep judgin these kids. Agree that in years past SOCO played an "easier" early season schedule, but this year, come on. Briar Woods, Westfield, Hayfield and West Springfield to start the season - all playoff-bound teams - makes this year a bit different. Looks to me like SOCO and LB will play their last game each at 9 - 0. Projected score: 48 - 45....and I don't know who wins.

South County has played a slightly more difficult schedule this year and they put 28 points on a very good Westfield defense. So honestly they appear to be the real deal. I also expect LB and SoCo to meet at 9-0. I'd give a slight edge to LB, they have won the last three scoring an amazing 143 points in those three games. SoCo's defense is better this year but enough better????

It's not the size of the school that matters it's the demographics. Loudon has a majority school of white kids with some African Americans. Most of the schools in fairfax county have a much higher minority rate. The westfields, centrevilles, robinsons, battlefields, chantilly's are more similar to Loudon where that have a higher Caucasian and African American demographic. So please westfields and cville stop the bragging you have the best student body to pick from.

Soco has no chance. Their defense is marginal at best. They have the talented but their scheme is so elementary hence WS put up 6 TD's. Regional championship defenses don't do that.....against anyone.

You must of been benched by Pannoni at some point...Maybe you played for him at Cville and he started a to be state champion over you. Get over yourself and congratulate success at a new program! He's going to onside kick you in the face!!

No one cares about Cville anymore, they're old news!!

Well said. Coach Pannoni may never deliver a state title to South County, but he has delivered a large dose of community and school pride to an institution that took us 20 years of lobbying and hard work to be built. South County and its residents are already winners here.

Love how all the suddenly in vogue teams this year think they have tradition and history. Only Centreville and Westfield can truly pop off and you all know it. LB, SOCO, WS, others do something anything and then talk.....we have been waiting for years.

Lots of talk for many years....

For the love of God, no one cares to read your silly comments about this dynasty v that amazing program, blah, blah, blah... and we certainly don't want to hear your ramblings about who was better from 10 years ago!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Steve and others like him just want to enjoy some ralk about the games that go on today. The sport of football is great because you can't measure a team's heart, or their coaches' ability to innovate, or a kid who just plain wills his team to victory. Let's talk about the predictions, the possibilities, the rivalrys, and who is going to go all the way... THIS YEAT, hell maybe even next year, and a little talk about last year. Strategy and game plans and the weather and injuries, even the drunks who just had to have at it in beer pong.

But no more silly, childish, name calling and blather about when you played 5 or 10 or 15 years ago.

It is over for has beens like you, or never was. Let the kids play.

Annandale (-25.0) @ Mount Vernon
*Annandale wins 41-20.

Briar Woods @ Westfield (-14.0)
*Westfield wins 36-0. Westfield is starting to look very impressive and is getting better each week. I went to this game and Briar Woods is not a bad team by any means. Would have been a more interesting game if not for disastrous starts to each half with a Westfield kick off return and a Briar Woods fumble near the end zone.

Broad Run (-28.0) @ Yorktown
*Broad Run dominates 51-3.

Centreville (-9.0) @ Oakton
*Oakton wins a 28-24 thriller. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Centreville falls to 2-4 and I fall again on their spread.

Edison @ Wakefield (-13.0)
*Wakefield wins 36-18.

Falls Church @ Lee (-7.0)
*Lee wins a close one, 28-27.

Hayfield (-10.0) @ Fairfax
*Hayfield wins 40-20.

Herndon @ South Lakes (-20.0)
*South Lakes won 50-13.

Marshall @ Madison (-21.0)
*Madison won 32-6.

McLean @ Chantilly (-28.0)
*Chantilly won 27-7. Come on Chantilly, it was your homecoming, a win's a win, but should have won by more.

Robinson @ Stone Bridge (-10.0)
*Robinson won 27-20; another strong win for Robinson, could they be a dark horse for the region?

Stuart (-14.0) @ Jefferson
PPD

Tuscarora (-10.0) @ Potomac Falls
*I said before this game "I feel Potomac Falls is the best team that no one is talking about this season." Tuscarora won 21-20, but for Pot Falls to go toe-to-toe with them like that convinces me no one better be sleeping on Pot Falls.

Woodson @ South County (-35.0)
*South County wins 37-7.

Washington-Lee @ Langley (-14.0)
*Washington-Lee wins 23-20 in OT, I botched that one.

West Springfield @ West Potomac (-3.0)
*West Springfield wins 28-9. Not surprised by the outcome, but definitely the score as West Springfield pulled a jekyll and hyde after their horrendous performance against Stone Bridge last week. Great win for the Spartans.

Lake Braddock (-35.0) @ TC Williams
*Saturday

West Springfield completely outplayed west Potomac, the offense had good run game as well as passing. The secondary played outstanding with 5 turnovers, 4 interceptions and a forced fumble. #87 and #11 made big plays. #6 with solid play. #1 was able to shut down CJ Burch for most of the game.

When every player you have graduates it's hard to recover from especially when you were just more physical than the other teams. Remember cville lost to westfields and struggled with WS last year.

On the contrary I think the region is more interesting this year with they parody. Playoffs will be even better with evenly matched teams in pressure situations. Should be se entertaining football.

Robinson my have a chance to win the Concorde. However westfields defense is just too good. Curios to see how they will do against the pass.

Here are the predictions for this week. This by far has been the toughest week to pick up to this point and I look for a lot of great games this coming Friday.

Annandale @ West Potomac (-7.0)

Broad Run (-7.5) @ Stone Bridge
*Definitely one of the games of the week. Broad Run comes in undefeated and Stone Bridge is up and down, but nothing would surprise me in this one.

Fairfax @ Washington-Lee (-14.0)
*Coming off a big win, look for the Generals to have another strong performance. Fairfax comes in on a 5 game skid.

Herndon @ Centreville (-28.0)
*Centreville finally ends their 4 game skid and will have no trouble in this one.

Jefferson @ Falls Church (-14.0)
*Falls Church comes in on a 5 game skid, TJ currently sits at 0-5 with their game against winless Stuart being played on Monday.

Langley @ Hayfield (-10.0)
*I’m telling you Langley sits at 1-5 but I think they still have a decent shot. If Hayfield takes them lightly an upset would not surprise me here. In fact I’ll put Hayfield on upset alert.

Lee @ Marshall (-15.0)

Mount Vernon @ South County (-42.0)

Oakton (-3.0) @ Chantilly
*Beating Centreville may not be a signature win anymore, but nonetheless it had to feel great for the Cougars who won a thriller last week. Gut check game for Chantilly who needs a win on their home field. Both teams are pretty even and this can go either way. Should be a great Concorde showdown.

Potomac Falls (-6.0) @ Briar Woods
*Briar Woods is the best 1-5 team I have EVER seen in the Northern Region. Their schedule has been crazy, I look for this to be a relatively close game, but Pot Falls is very good too.

South Lakes @ Madison (-1.0)
*This is the regular season conference championship game for the Liberty and another game of the week. I like Madison at home but like a lot of these games it can go either way.

TC Williams @ West Springfield (-21.0)

Tuscarora (40.0) @ Edison

Woodson @ Lake Braddock (-28.0)

Wakefield (-25.0) @ Stuart

Westfield (-10.0) @ Robinson
*A great Concorde showdown for first place. Both teams are playing very well but I look for Westfield to slow down Robinson’s rushing attack and convert a could big plays.

Yorktown (-21.0) @ McLean

Actually, the teams they have lost to are 28-3:
Tusky 7-0
SoCo 6-0
West Pot 4-2
Broad R 6-0
WestFld 5-1

Throw in SLakes 5-1 and Lee 2-4 and their opponents overall record is 35-8.

And they still have Pot Falls 4-2, Tilly 4-2 and Stone Brdg 3-3.

That's 46-15.

Hayfield wins and covers. I agree that Langley isn't as bad as their record indicates, but I think Hayfield's speed makes this a bad match up for Langley. Their loss to WL figures to be deflating.

Annandale @ West Potomac (-7.0)
West Po by 14.

Broad Run (-7.5) @ Stone Bridge
Broad run. But not by much

Fairfax @ Washington-Lee (-14.0)
Washington Lee covers.

Herndon @ Centreville (-28.0)
*Centreville takes out some pent up frustrations and covers the spread.

If they win it would be a small upset. Westfield is slightly favored based on all metrics including performance against common opponents.

Stone Bridge: Westfield 28-7, Robinson 27-20
Oakton: Westfield 38-7, Robinson 42-17

It should be slugfest for sure. Neither team is exactly lighting it up offensively - Robinson is averaging 31.8 points per game and Westfield 28.7. Defensively Westfield is allowing 9.3 points per game and Robinson 17.8.

Both teams have been in every game - Robinson losing by 1 TD to 6-0 Lake Braddock and 4-2 West Springfield. Westfield lost by 1 TD to 6-0 South County.

That being said this would probably be as good an opportunity for Robinson to get a win against Westfield that they have had in some time. Their last victory against Westfield was in 2010 - a 14-0 shutout.

Not to mention one of Westfield's best players is done for the year. Rumor is #41 has a serious knee injury.

Westfield is favored because they finally have an offense. If anyone saw the game this past Friday against Briar Woods that's what all the preseason hype was about.

The offense moved the ball, return of skill players not only boosted that effort but special teams as well. Now that they have a passing attack that opened up the running game.

Add Westfield's defense and their kicking game into the equation and they have the team that many of the prognosticators were picking in the preseason to be one of the area's top teams.

Their defense has given up 8.3 points per game, the 6 T.C. Williams scored was a pick six. That defense is pretty good, though as the previous post suggests lost one of its best players for the season.

Robinson's offense is run heavy, something Westfield has the ability to shut down. That's also another reason why they're favored to win on Friday.

Should be a good game, both teams always play each other very well and it's typically a close game.

Westfield punished the drunks to the letter of the law. It would have been a better message to those kids to kick them off the team, but everybody wants to win! So, punishing them with something is better than nothing, right?

Well then, what about SC? The rumor is that multiple kids use fake addresses to attend the school, but how could you prove it? Now the word is that there was a big fight between player's on the field that spilled into the locker room. One boy required stitches....what will be done? Isn't that assault? How can they deny a face held together by string? Or will the Coaches call it an accident/part of the game? And, if it spilled into the locker room then what?

I don't have all the info but I have questions: What happened in the aftermath of the fight? What did the head coach do? Were the parents called in? Does the coach have an obligation to notify admin? If your kid got his face busted open at practice by some street thug what would you do? Something must be done!!!

Street thug??? Where do some of you prejudice people get your ideas from? Is he street thug because he is a person of color? Why couldn't he just be a student? It's football. It's a violent sport. If something did happen they should be disciplined accordingly. We can't ask them to be physical on the field and then over react when tempers flare.

With that beig said, the wheels started to fall off against w. Springfield. Multiple kids got benched because of poor play. However, after the game SC prayed with WS and conversed with players and coaches in a friendly manner. Stop being so butt hurt because the Concorde can't compare this year
