Ocean Lakes football team is half black half white. Kellam is like 2/3 white. Cox is mostly all white. No one up here knows anything about the beach schools except that they are good. really good. And that's the truth.

Every skill position player(few QB exceptions) are black at most of the top beach schools.
Quit deluding yourself.

Player on South County ruptured a TC player's spleen and caused internal bleeding...the hit was unbelievable. Was in ICU today but I believe he's been released.

I would have liked to see Westfield and Centreville play under better conditions to get a greater sence of both teams potential. That said they both played in the same conditions and it wasn't close. Westfield's offense seems to lack any imagination and where Burns was a big part of the offense last year, I don't think they have a QB capable of getting the ball downfield to him or others. I would like to see this matchup if that element was part of their offense as it was last year. Either Lake Braddock or C'ville will likely play the Bulldogs one more time, I think I either case it will be a tough game.

C'ville's margin of victory would be even more since they have a better arial attack than Westfield.

Here are the spreads for this week. Not the most thrilling week of matchups, but should be a handful of good games. Robinson will have their judgment day against Westfield, that might be a good one, and I'd say is the game of the week.

Centreville (-42.0) @ Oakton

Chantilly (-16.0) @ Herndon

Langley (-20.0) @ South Lakes

Madison (-7.0) @ Jefferson
This is actually a tougher pick, Madison is 0-6 with a tougher schedule, while TJ has 3 wins and a decent running attack. I can’t remember the last time TJ beat Madison, or if it has even happened. I’ll be pulling for TJ but will pick Madison, should be one of the better games this week.

Marshall @ Stone Bridge (-52.0)

McLean @ Fairfax (-8.5)

Mount Vernon @ Falls Church (-11.0)

Stuart @ Hayfield (-28.0)

TC Williams (-20.0) @ Lee

Woodson (-7.0) @ Annandale

Wakefield @ Yorktown (-24.0)

West Potomac @ South County (-28.0)

West Springfield @ Lake Braddock (-45.0)

Westfield (-14.0) @ Robinson
I like Westfield to send a statement, and I think Robinson’s easy schedule gets exposed here. This may turn out to be a really good game though, probably game of the week.

South County vs Lake Braddock game should be one of the most thrilling games before the playoff starts. Braddock vs TC might be good too. The annual rivalry game between Chantilly vs Westfield game might be a good game but I think WF will dominate Tilly by at least 2-3 TD's.

Anyone else travel out to Ashburn to watch Tuscarora play Broad Run last night? What a great high school football game, as Broad Run came back from a 17-6 deficit in the 4th quarter to beat a previously undefeated Tuscarora team.

Yes, I know both of these schools are in Loudoun and not Fairfax, but D5 schools in Fairfax better take note. Langley is the only Fairfax team that has a chance to defeat Stone Bridge, Briar Woods, Tuscarora, or Broad Run come playoff time!

Why are D5 teams in Fairfax so weak compared to D5 schools in Loudoun?

I'd expect the game to stay reasonably close - at least early. Westfield just is not getting very good QB play this year. If they had even an average QB I'd be certain they would win out to go 8-2.

The people saying that the beach team (Oscar Smith/Ocean Lakes) that comes out of the south region will run over Centreville obviously haven't watched Centreville play. This team is so much better, so much deeper, than the 2011 team that got beaten pretty badly in the finals by Oscar Smith. They have speed all over the field and have at least 6 players who can strike at any time (Turner, Boose, Nickens-yzer, Tutt, Walter, Heiner). These players fit right in to Haddock's system. Their defense is 3rd in the state, giving up about 6 a game. The first team defense has only given up 10 points all season. Wiggins, Love, Brooks among others stuff the run and Tutt and Turner patrol the air. Tutt has only given up one reception all year, and it was a quick slant against Westfield for about 5 yards. The beach might win, but it will definitely not be as badly as you think it will be. Cville might even get the victory.

Sorry, just my response to people saying cville doesn't have a chance.

I agree with you 100% and according to VHSL, Cville's Defense is #1 in the state.

Also, take a look at Oscar Smith's schedule. They are beating up on D4 teams. The one average D6 team they played which has a 4-3 record, it was relatively close 27-14. Now Ocean Lakes is beating up on opponents like CVille is but the one D6 team they just beat, Frank Cox, is 4-2 like Westfield and they beat them by about the same score as CVille beat WF.

I think Chantilly vs. Westfield will be the best game and it will be close. I think Lake Braddock-Soutch County is way over hyped. Chantilly beat SoCo and no way SoCo will be capable of hanging with Lake Braddock. We'll see what transpires, but if I had to do a spread right now I'd have Lake Braddock (-21.0) over South County. I think with Westfield's offense less explosive, when they play Chantilly in a packed rivalry game anything can happen.

If Chantilly can beat Yorktown and Robinson in the next 3 weeks, which will be tough, especially with Yorktown, the Chantilly/Westfield game may be a game for 3rd in the region which would be big time to get on that opposite bracket of Centreville. Again, Chantilly has work cut out for them here, but I think they are capable of putting a run together.

I agree that whoever gets the 3rd seed will be very happy to only have to meet Centerville in the finals if they get that far. I think Chantilly can easily win both of those games but they wont get the 3rd seed for me.

But i dont think lake braddock will roll over south county. LB will not face a better offense than soco's unless they make it to the state finals. That Game will be a shootout because soco's defense also sucks

Lol what?? Smith is beating D6 teams, they are D6. they beat a western branch team (D6) who is ranked in the top 10 by VA preps.
They also beat D5 Lake Taylor 42-2. (Yes the same Lake Taylor that won the D5 state championship over Stone Bridge.

What about Centreville? Their offense is way better than south county's, it has yet to be stopped with a much harder schedule. Hell even Chantilly outscored them in a shoot out.

South County is an OK team, that is capable of making some noise in the playoffs, but their schedule is so easy. The only decent team they played wAs Chantilly and they lost, and the only other game is going to be against Lake Braddock and they will get destroyed.

Look again Malcolm, Oscar Smith's opponents so far, Lake Taylor (D4 - Lost to LC Bird and OS), Western Branch (D6), Indian River(D5), Lakeland (D4), Deep Creek (D4) and Nansemond River (D4). LT and WB are formidable teams but two D4's have not won a game and another has one win. I think Oscar Smith is very solid and they cannot help their schedule but I think the south should be more concerned with Ocean Lakes.

Soco has the best statistical offense in the northern region however I believe that centerville has the best one

If you look at the three teams: Centreville, Lake Braddock, and South County there isn't much difference between the teams on paper. Centreville up unitl the the Westfied game has had a pretty easy schedule. SOuth County has had and easy schedule, and if healthy against Chantilly they win by three touchdowns. Lake Braddock has had the toughest schedule out of all three, but beaten average Robinson, Westfield, and Stone Bridge teams.

South County offense:49.5 Pts. a game Defense:19.8 Pts. a game
Centreville offense:45.3 Pts. a game Defense:5 Pts. a game
Lake Braddock offense:45.5 Pts. a game Defense:12 Pts. a game

South County: Mount Vernon, Hayfield, Chantilly, Lee, West Springfield, TC.
Centreville: West Po, TC, Hayfield, West Springfield, Chantilly, Westfield
Lake Braddock: Robinson, Stone Bridge, Westfield, Annandale, West Po, Woodson

Looks like a lot of the same teams here!!

Needless to day South County Vs. Lake Braddock will be a better game them most think. Lake Braddock hasn't been tested since week three and have been hearing about how good they are all year, and South County is a hungry team looking to make a place in the region. In my opinion South County is way better then both Centreville and Lake Breaddock on special teams, and that might be the difference in week nine. These playoff type games don't always come down to who looks better on paper, and South County will be 100% healthy and ready to play Lake Braddock in week nine!!

Believe the hype South County will be ready to play week nine!!

SoCo coach is a poor sport and plays starters deep into the 4th quarter, thus padding their offensive scores. Centerville coach does NOT do that, I have seem him subbing early in 3rd quarter in blow outs. Unsure about LB - he has a rep, but I haven't seen any of his games this year? Bottom line Centerville offense is the real deal, SoCo's is not.

Not a poor sport, just getting kids ready for four quarters of football. Come playoff time, those let back quarters can come back to haunt you in 6A.

Again:

South County offense:49.5 Pts. a game
Centreville offense:45.3 Pts. a game

Stats don't lie!!

Centreville's 1st team is averaging less than 3 quarters per game.
Their starting O avg is 43 pts per game while playing less than 3 quarters
Their starting D is giving up an avg of 1.67 in those same <3 quarters
Come playoff time, the starters are going to have fresh legs.

Defensively they are really good not argument there.

Fresh legs just means weak legs!! Play four solid quarters of football, that is what wins in the playoffs!!

Sure hope you're on the Cville side of the playoff bracket. Then you'll see how weak their legs are!!

According the VHSL Reference Game Simulator:

2013 Lake Braddock Bruins 28
2013 South County Stallions 14

Game played in Burke, Virginia October 18, 2013

Lake Braddock is favored to win this game 70% of the time

Seems about right to me.

LOL @ South County crushing Centreville. Centreville is THE best team in 6A North.

Soundly beating Westfield by 4 TDs, dismantling Chantilly by 6 TD's (which Soco lost to btw), crushing TC Williams by 4 TDs (which South County barely beat). They will lose badly like the rest. But, that doesn't make South County a bad team because they are a really good squad. It's just that this year, 6A North has Centreville written all over it to go states (kinda like how it was with Westfeld in 2007).

Centreville up 35-0 on Oakton with 9 minutes in 2nd quarter still..

Westfield is tied with Robinson 7-7 at half

Chantilly up 21-20 on Herndon, Chantilly is not defending the pass well.

Bad news for Vienna teams. Oakton and Marshall are predictably getting slaughtered by Centreville and Stone Bridge, but Madison just lost to TJ by 3, meaning that the Marshall-Madison game will be the new Toilet Bowl of the season, pitting winless Vienna teams against each other.

Of course, as bad as Madison is, it should still cruise over Marshall, which has perhaps the worst team the Northern Region has fielded in many years.

The Madison coach has to be on the hot seat at 0-7. They've played a tougher schedule, but needed to beat TJ tonight. They'll call it the toilet bowl, but Marshall has been in 3 toilet bowls against Wakefield, Freedom, and Stuart and lost all 3 by double digits. Madison is way better than those teams.

Centreville (-42.0) @ Oakton
Centreville won 42-21; went up 42-0 in typical fashion, but give credit to Oakton who fought and scrapped. For the first time this year, Centreville did not cover their spread.

Chantilly (-16.0) @ Herndon
Chantilly wins 56-40; spot on for their spread for the second consecutive week! Obviously more total points than I expected.

Langley (-20.0) @ South Lakes
Langley wins 56-33. Spread covered.

Madison (-7.0) @ Jefferson
Was a good game as predicted, TJ wins 24-21. Madison’s coach should be on the hot seat at 0-7.

Marshall @ Stone Bridge (-52.0)
Stone Bridge wins 56-7. Stone Bridge didn’t reach the spread, close though.

McLean @ Fairfax (-8.5)
Fairfax wins 45-20

Mount Vernon @ Falls Church (-11.0)
Falls Church wins 42-17

Stuart @ Hayfield (-28.0)
Hayfield wins 47-0

TC Williams (-20.0) @ Lee
TC Williams wins 32-0

Woodson (-7.0) @ Annandale
Woodson wins 33-0; Annandale must really be bad.

Wakefield @ Yorktown (-24.0)
Yorktown won 44-14

West Potomac @ South County (-28.0)
South County won 49-22

West Springfield @ Lake Braddock (-45.0)
Lake Braddock won 51-0. Spread very close, Lake Braddock has outscored their last 4 opponents 227-0. Unreal, even with the weak district. They will face the other 2 decent teams though, South County and TC Williams to conclude the season. Those teams will score, but Lake Braddock should still smash them.

Westfield (-14.0) @ Robinson
Westfield won 14-13. Kudos to Robinson, not a bad performance.

"Why is Madison so Horrible"

My $.02 is that the central/western County redistricting a few years back really impacted Madison by stripping out the "Madison Island" & sending it to South Lakes (which has improved in several sports. Go figure)

That's horse shit! There are a bunch of kids at Madison that are supposed to go to South Lakes but chose Madison because of sports. The sports program at Madison is much better. There baseball team contends for states every year and so does Lacrosse. Madison's football team beats up on South Lakes every year! The Only Madison Island kids the go to South Lakes are the ones that don't play sports!

Same pattern as all previous games. Up 42-7 at the half. Second half is mainly 2nd and 3rd string. So really two games. In the second game, Oakton beat CVHS's second string 14-0.

Lake Braddock will be a challenge, but this was the same spread predicted for the SoCo/TC Williams game by VHSL-Reference. TCW was supposed to beat SoCo. SC dominated early then started to let TCW back in the game with a breakdown in discipline that killed several drives which would have put them up by multiple scores. TCW did not give up and kept fighting back. But SC hung on, and even with 33 penalties for 135 yards, SC managed to score 44 points and keep TCW out of the end zone when it counted. Similar game in some respects to the SC/Chantilly game in week 4, except this time SC comes away with the W. SC needs to reduce the penalties (many caused by the same 2-3 players), and tighten up on D. If they can do this, they may go far in the playoffs. One game at a time.

I could probably do a better job than some coaches

I want to personally tell "nat4lee" and "steve k2" good job. This far into the season, those two are really keeping the thread going with great research and analysis. Way to go.

My top 10 of Fairfax:
1-Centreville
2-Lake Braddock
3-Westfield
4-Langley
5-South County
6-Chantilly
7-Washington-Lee
8-Yorktown
9-T. C. Williams
10-Fairfax

Don't think it's perfect, but if you disagree just post it below.

Officially, all of the statistics and standings I post come directly from the state's governing sports body, the Virginia High School League, and are perfectly accurate. These do not include my personal predictions or thoughts, which I always reserve for separate postings. Any errors you think you may find are probably just my bad typing skills.

I welcome analysis of the raw data I post, and welcome everyone's thoughts on how the last five weeks of the regular season (and our new playoffs!) might turn out!

I agree with most of those. For me Langley, soco and chantilly could all have the 4,5 or 6th spot

I dont think that W-L should be that high on the list. Yes they only have one loss, but they have barely beat some teams that they should have killed. And they will get raped this weekend by CVILLE

SOCO's first string tailback will be returning for the Lake Braddock game. He has been out since their bye week

Wrong on both posts. The Madison island that got redistricted to SL had minimal impact on both schools because there are only like 25-30 students that got redistricted. In football the school most affected by the redistricting was Oakton because they lost several fox mill kids who now start for SL although a lot of FM kids still go to Oakton (both schools have 4-3 records but it's considered an up year for SL and a down year for Oakton).

I would agree that Madison's athletics overall are much better than SL, Madison has a lot of baseball players that live in the SL district but I don't know how many of them live in the madison island. SL needs to get a new DSA asap, the crap that would fly when the school had 1,400 students won't fly when they have close to 3k in a few years.

If you look at a lot of south county's games in detail, a lot of them are very poorly reffed... Refs calling completely rediculous calls only on south county's side of the ball. South county's offensive line is one of the most sound offensive lines I've seen in a while
Other than size. south county's offense backs and quarterback are also the real deal. It seems to me (being a highschool football analyst for over 15 years now) that south county is the real deal.. Don't sleep on them, I promise you their a team that is hungry to show the state who they really are. Their defense slacks in some places, which is all fixable. I believe that if south county defense gets it together south county will be able to go all the way.

This is too accurate. The refs have it out for the oline due to physical play. Finishing blocks and pancakes are viewed as penalties. The offense is also very dynamic mixing the triple option with great spread plays. This is a true playoff contender!!!

So if South County gets their defense fixed and the refs stop calling all bad games on them, they could win it all.

South County has played 5 sub-500 teams and lost to one of the two over-.500 teams and probably should have lost to the other. I will say that they score immensley on each team but their defense, which got them to the state finals two years ago, will fail them this year. Doubt they will make it to Thanksgiving weekend

Next week, Lake Braddock is the test. LB has 4 shutouts to 2-5 teams or worse. While impressive, they gave up many points to a quality WF team. That will definitely be the game of week 10.

Who are you all kidding? South County runs that hurry up offense that is aided to a great extent by the refs. Those old and overweight refs hustle so hard to get the ball spotted for SoCo they don't even have time to check men on the field, illegal formations and motion. SoCo is frequently snapping the ball with multiple players moving at the line of scrimmage or not set and it is never called. I think the refs are afraid of Panonni - I've seen line judges way out of position when the ball was snapped because they are in such a hurry aid Soco to quick snap.

Everybody is aware that the only requirement to be a VHSL official is to be at least 18 yrs. or older. Im not saying that its the rule and not the exception but I would bet that a lot of those refs never really played high school ball or coached it and took up being a ref as a means to get closer to the game as a spectator. This, in my mind, would greatly contribute to the absurd amount of penalties SoCo has received so far. But, it could also be that SoCo really does commit that many penalties in a game.

I agree some of my ref colleagues either never played or played long ago and probably were not that good. Some of our refs call holding when O-lineman pancake kids after the RB is already past them. I think they want the kids to not completely destroy a kid that has little chance of making a play on a RB 10 to 20 yards down field. Also some of my guys call holding when Lineman grab a little cloth inside the numbers area and some allow the hands inside the numbers as long as the O-line releases when the defender attempts to pull away. We are taught to call when they get their hands outside the shoulders. in all honesty we could call holding on almost every play there is usually a little at first contact but some players are quicker at releasing or disguising.

It was not my intent to ref-bash. It's a thankless task and in the end someone has to do it. I appreciate the guys who are willing despite the endless abuse.
