West Springfield at Lee tonight is a matchup of two below average teams, but don't forget that someone has to win. Lee should have enough firepower behind their senior running back Michael Jolly to take the win 34 to 21 over whatever strange things that new Spartans coach is up to across town . . . and Lee has also had a bye week for their coach to go looking for that missing page on defensive plays his dog must have eaten over the summer.

Spartanjoke - who crapped in your cheerios? Almost every team WS plays this year will be faster, bigger, and have more depth. There are no game breakers on this team. I think the current coaching staff has the kids playing pretty well, all things considered. You may not like the football coaching hire but the kids seeing to be buying in to what he is saying. One thing about this group of kids is that they will not quit, overmatched or not. The kids all know that they are going up against a skilled, well-coached Centreville team. I believe the team, the coaching staff, and the student body are looking forward to the game. It just might end up a little closer than people think.

Well I think WS is doing pretty well for their first year under a new coaching staff, an entirely new offense, and losing around 15 starters from last year regardless of the team you play winning in overtime takes discipline and a will to win. Looks about right. I think Langley will make it closer as they have played a couple of good teams tough.
This will be Hayfield's chance to see what they can really do and TC Williams should go 3-1 for the first time in a while from my understanding.
Falls Church will have a hard -but not impossible- time going 4-0.
Some interesting story lines but no real good games. Next week will get significantly better.

falls church got robbed of the victory by the refs.They constantly called plays in yorktown's favor and were looking for reasons to hand them the game. the refs were atrocious and should be ashamed.They called back a potential game winning TD for no reason. FC's defense was stifling and made things extremely difficult for MJ Stewart.

West Springfield plays a school its own size and gets wiped. Yeah- that score was a lot closer than people thought- only because Centreville was trying their best NOT to score. SoCo game will just as futile. Don't worry WS you have Annandale and Woodson for possible wins. Too bad most of the talent at the school is walking the halls because of the coaches/admin. there.

I noticed Westfield did not use Devon Burns (#1) on kick and punt returns vs. Fairfax - it seems it is a 50/50 as to whether he will fumble it away or run it back for a TD. Wonder if it was a one game thing or permanent.

I've been to every Cville game and watched highlights of almost every LB game, and they're by far the 2 best teams in the area. What Cville and Wfield were 2 years ago are Cville and LB this year. Mark my words, neither the will have a single-digit margin of victory until the 6A semi, which will be cville vs. LB.

Also, LB and CVille would meet in the northern region finals since the two teams should be seeded one and two which would put them in separate brackets. That is a very long long time from now with a half of a season left and a very competitive playoff to be played out.

I may be wrong about this later in the year, if LB isn't as good as I think they are(and correct me if I'm wrong but with their district schedule coming up, their schedule isn't nearly as hard) but that's what making bold predictions are about. And inquisitive one-it is a tough and long road to the Regional Championship (which with realignment is also the state semis) but I think both will survive. It all depends on the playoffs draw.

Robinson has a new "temporary" coach this year. The new temp coach will be proclaimed success (and thus the answer to the perceived failure of Taylor). This is a done deal. In fact, the outcome was predestined by the embarrassingly soft schedule the Rams play. The Rams scheduled three traditional Div 5 schools each with enrollments half of Robinson's. Toss in WTW and Herndon, and a minimum of five wins without breaking a sweat. Truly a no lose situation going into the season. Add to the mix a down year for Chantilly and Oakton, and the Rams would be 7-3 (at worst) under any coach. The really (and only) test will be the Westfield game. C'ville is a guaranteed loss, no shame in that. So, beat Westfield and it's a success... if not, the coaching change just bought time, not results.

Of the two, I think that Stone Bridge and Westfield is the best possibility for a down to the wire game that could go either way. CVille could blow out Chantilly or just as easily be up upset by the Chargers. Either way I think it will be a spread of 10 to 14.

WS is not alone when egos become more important than managing and motivating a team. The only difference is that it appears that it is the AD at W Springfield that has an ego problem. I personally think that CVille would be a lot more successful in many of the secondary sports if there was more concern for the athletes' development and well being rather than growing their little fiefdoms and oversized egos.

Was LB piling on WePo tonight? In tweeter feeds I thought I saw them going for two pts. after touchdowns, late field goals and passing late in the game. Just seemed to be a bit much for a team that could have sent out their JV and won the game.

They piled on Annandale last week 68 - 0 and the piled on WePo 58 - 0. When you are ahead by 5 or 6 touchdowns, do you really need to keep piling on the scores? Hopefully, LB was playing the guys that normally are bench warmers, and not just trying to get Henderson's stats up for the recruiters.
