Do tell, "Cheaters???", expose them, maybe we can serve those real cheaters justice yet!

Every year, people claim this school or that school brings people in from out of their district to play. Who is on the Braddock roster that is illegal?

Fess up with proof or shut up.

Yeah, Soco and Yorktown trade more on speed and deception, not power. That has been true the past 2-3 years with Soco's option and Yorktown's speed on O. The bigger schools tend to trade more on power, e.g., the Concord teams that have done so well up here and at states.

I was under the impression that it was not necessarily an issue of cheating but of the standards for transferring that is used by the Northern Region vs. the more liberal standards that are used in the 757 area.

Can anyone help me out with power points?

I need to try and make arrangements on several different levels so as to not miss my son's game.

A. Does Broad Run hold off Falls Church for # 8 seed and home game assuming they and Falls Church both win ( which is very likely)?

B. Briar Woods is going to defeat Tuscarora and Stone Bridge will defeat Thomas Jefferson. Does Briar have enouh points to pass Tuscarora? Same with Stone Bridge?

C. Is TJ in line to play Stone Bridge this week, then again next week?

Briar Woods/Stone Bridge likely to play in semi's. What a game! The only better match-up that could come up that week would be Centreville- Braddock, but I don't think you get that match-up until the following week.

North teams are very solid this year, but path to state championships blocked by the south at D6, D5, and D4. Oscar Smith, Bird, and winner of Lake Taylor and Phoebus all going to take home the hardware.

The simple answer to all your questions is YES. Broad Run and Falls Church should keep their seeding. Tuscarora and Briar Woods should trade places in the standings. Stone Bridge and TJ will be playing two weeks in a row. But the beauty of football is that we still have to actually play out the games, and anything can and does happen!

Rivalry week (Chantilly vs. Westfield, McLean vs. Langley, Hayfield vs. Edison, Washington Lee vs. Yorktown and even Marshall vs. Madison; then a huge game Robinson vs. Centreville) leads to the best set of games the past month or so to conclude the regular season, with lots of playoff implications. First it is a no brainer Chantilly @ Westfield is the game of the week. Don’t let the seedings fool you, these teams are the most even they have been the past several years with very similar scores against common opponents and it is a great rivalry game. Chantilly is coming off a couple really difficult weeks losing to Yorktown by 2, and Robinson by 1 which has them down at the 14 seed right now… A win is a win and a loss a loss, but had a couple plays gone Chantilly’s way those two games they would be the 4 seed right now… I think Chantilly comes out desperate to avoid the 15 or 16 seed and squeaks out a win, in a game very few people are giving them a chance in.

Chantilly (-6.0) @ Westfield

Fairfax (-14.0) @ South Lakes

Hayfield (-10.0) @ Edison

TJ @ Stone Bridge (-28.0)

Lake Braddock (-55.0) @ Lee

Langley (-10.0) @ McLean
*This one is very intriguing, Langley should win, but it is a rivalry game, and if McLean wins they are in the playoffs, a loss and they don’t make it. Expect a very fired up Highlanders team.

Marshall @ Madison (-20.0)
*A big rivalry and both teams come in at 0-9. Marshall has had 3 shots against bottom-tier teams with Wakefield, Stuart, and Freedom and lost by double digits in all of them. Madison has played a much tougher schedule against 3 Concorde teams, Chantilly, Oakton, and Robinson and been closer in district games. I think Madison is a lot better, BUT if Marshall hangs around in the first quarter and can run the ball effectively, this may turn out to be an awesome game for pride.

Oakton (-7.0) @ Herndon
*Both teams come into this Concorde matchup winless in district. Herndon has put together a few nice weeks though, offensively, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see an upset here. Taking the safe pick though, with a traditional winning program in Oakton.

Robinson @ Centreville (-28.0)
*if Robinson wins, they earn a share of the Concorde title. No way they do though, Centreville is a few touchdowns better than everyone in the Concorde. You have Westfield, Robinson, and Chantilly at the second tier. Big spread, so hopefully some of you take Robinson.

South County (-42.0) @ Annandale

Stuart @ Falls Church (-28.0)

Wakefield @ Mount Vernon (-21.0)

Washington-Lee @ Yorktown (-14.0)

West Springfield @ Woodson (-7.0)
* this will be a very close football game if you are in the area and want to see a competitive one.

West Potomac @ TC Williams (-7.0)

Nat4Lee,

You are awesome! Thanks for the confimation, or at least as close to confirmation as we can get.

Very helpful info.

Two cents about games this week? Expect blow-outs in several games that, record-wise, might be close.

Madison by 30 or more against marshall, Fairfax rolls it up on South Lakes, langley smacks McLean by 14 or more, and South Co wins by 50 or more vs hapless Annandale.

Big game in Loudoun, but Briar Woods handles one loss Tuscarora with relative ease.

Does anyone know when the all-Concorde picks come out? Will there by any players on either the 1st or 2nd team (not named Reashawn Smith) who are NOT from Westfield or Centreville? Will Oakton and Herndon have anyone at all on those lists?

We all know the stud skill players in the Concorde. Who are the best guys in the trenches on both sides of the ball?

Henderson Family bought a house in the LB districts they didn't cheat. The FF county goes over these like a fine tooth comb. The paperwork has to be approved. This stuff can't happen anymore, give it a rest. If a family buys a house in the zone of the high school, it's legal, besides if a kid wants to play at another school, let them.

That was a SCRIMMAGE prior to the season months ago, and scrimmage scores have little bearing on the regular games. But I will agree I think Briar Woods, Massaponax and Stone Bridge are all much stronger, before I even look at anyone in the beach districts.

Beach teams might mot be as good at the top as last year except for O. Smith and Ocean Lakes. Saw Smith wax Lake Taylor 44-2 in its opener and am still not sure how to read Phoebus after last year's issues and the 50 point loss to Lake Taylor.

I've only seen the one game ther this year and it was the opener. Whichever 3 teams come out of the North's D6-5-4 should give anybody else a tough game down there in December. We always go because there is virtually no inter-regional play otherwise.

You just quoted my previous post nearly verbatim. And a 2-7 team won't make the playoffs, because Lee will actually be 2-8 (and may not even be the 16th seed, but the 15th?!!) when they lose 60-0 against Lake Braddock. But I will also refer you back to the poster after mine a few days ago that explained why it may not be as bad as you and I think. And he/she/it makes a good case.

I'd like to agree with you here, everything you say makes sense - but I just haven't seen anything that makes me think Chantilly's defense can get enough stops. They are giving up 29.22 points per game / Westfield's D 14.44.

I also think Oakton is ripe for an upset here - I think Bumbrey and Hicks can keep Herndon in this game.

I think this is the first time since Lalli took over the head coaching job at ChAntilly that they will finish below 500. I think it's safe to say that the class of 2013 was the last good chantilly team well see in a while. They only get worse next year with losing their starting receivers, their whole starting offensive line, and majority of their defense. LB should end their season next week.

Well here were the spread results this week, the former National District threw me off a little bit. Congrats to W&L on their first district title in 38 years!

Chantilly (-6.0) @ Westfield
*Westfield won 20-17. Great game by both teams. Chantilly is very evenly matched with the top-tier teams except for Cville and Lake Braddock. Bummer for the Chargers they’re a 15 seed, and bummer for Braddock too, while I think they’ll take care of business fairly easily against Chantilly, still it sucks to have to play them as the 15 seed when you look at some of the other teams in the mix.

Fairfax (-14.0) @ South Lakes
*Fairfax covered the spread, 24-7

Hayfield (-10.0) @ Edison
*Hayfield won 20-19

TJ @ Stone Bridge (-28.0)
*Stone Bridge won 35-6, spread was great here.

Lake Braddock (-55.0) @ Lee
*Lake Braddock won 70-14, spread was awesome here too.

Langley (-10.0) @ McLean
*Langley won 35-12.

Marshall @ Madison (-20.0)
*Madison won 49-18.

Oakton (-7.0) @ Herndon
*Oakton beat Herndon 45-31.

Robinson @ Centreville (-28.0)
*Centreville won 45-9. Another statement for the Wildcats.

South County (-42.0) @ Annandale
*South County won 55-14, super close spread but wrong side.

Stuart @ Falls Church (-28.0)
*Falls Church won 35-13.

Wakefield @ Mount Vernon (-21.0)
*Wakefield won 27-19, big surprise here.

Washington-Lee @ Yorktown (-14.0)
*W&L wins their first district title in 38 years, and wins the game 10-0. Shutting out Yorktown is amazing, did not see that happening.

West Springfield @ Woodson (-7.0)
* Woodson won 35-0. Finished the year very strong under Dishun and without a doubt I think he saved his job because of it.

Week 10 is (almost) in the books in Virginia high school football, which means the playoff picture is coming into focus. Based on Friday night’s results, here are our best projections for the region playoff fields in Virginia’s largest area classifications.

Options: ReplyQuote
Re: Highschool Football 2013
Posted by: Washington Post ()
Date: November 09, 2013 10:07AM

Virginia 6A North

In: Centreville (10-0), Lake Braddock (10-0), Westfield (8-2), Washington-Lee (8-2), Langley (8-2), Patriot (8-2), Yorktown (8-2), South County (8-2), T.C. Williams (6-3), Fairfax (7-3), Robinson (7-3), Battlefield (6-3), Stonewall Jackson (6-4), Hayfield (27.8), Chantilly (5-5)

In at the moment: South Lakes (5-5)
In with a win: West Potomac (4-5)

Skinny: The 6A North field is just about set, but result of Saturday’s regular-season finale between T.C. Williams and West Potomac will determine who nabs the 16th and final seed. If the Wolverines beat the Titans, they’re in and South Lakes is out. The result of that game will also determine seeding for T.C. Williams. If the Titans win, they would earn the No. 9 seed and travel to Patriot District rival South County for a first-round playoff game. If they lose, they drop to the 12th seed and would have to travel to Langley — a team they beat earlier this year.

Here are the projected first-round matchups (higher seeds host):

No. 1. Centreville vs. No. 16 South Lakes/West Potomac
No. 2 Lake Braddock vs. No. 15 Chantilly
No. 3 Westfield vs. No. 14 Hayfield
No. 4 Washington-Lee vs. No. 13 Stonewall Jackson
No. 5 Langley vs. No. 12 Battlefield
No. 6 Patriot vs. No. 11 Robinson
No. 7 Yorktown vs. No. 10 Fairfax
No. 8 South County vs. No. 9 T.C. Williams (if the Titans beat West Potomac)

Skinny: This field is set with all team’s having completed their regular seasons on Friday night. Despite a 20-19 loss to Hayfield, Edison just squeaked into the field ahead of Brooke Point to grab the 16th and final spot. How close was it? According to our calculations, the Eagles finished with a 21.6 point rating — as a result of the bonus points they gained by playing 6A Hayfield — while Brooke Point finished with 21.5, following a Friday loss to 5A North top seed Massaponax.

Here are the projected first-round matchups (higher seeds host):

No. 1 Massaponax (10-0) vs. No. 16 Edison (3-7)
No. 2 Stone Bridge (8-2) vs. No. 15 Lee (2-8)
No. 3 Briar Woods (9-1) vs. No. 14. Potomac Falls (4-5)
No. 4 Tuscarora (8-2) vs. No. 13. Mount Vernon (3-7)
No. 5 North Stafford (8-2) vs. No. 12 Jefferson (4-5)
No. 6 Mountain View (7-3) vs. No. 11. Potomac (4-6)
No. 7 Broad Run (7-3) vs. No. 10 Freedom-Woodbridge (4-6)
No. 8 Falls Church (7-3) vs. No. 9 Albemarle (6-4)

Virginia 4A North

Skinny: The field is basically set with all but two teams having completed their regular seasons on Friday night. Handley (6-3) will play James Wood (1-8) Saturday to wrap things up, and that result will affect seeding in this region. Heritage barely missed the postseason. The Pride’s 28-7 upset of Loudoun County gave them a 20.2 rating (according to our calculations), which was not enough to catch Amherst County (20.8).

Here are the projected first-round matchups *if Handley defeats James Wood* (higher seeds host):

No. 1 Sherando (9-1) vs. No. 16 Amherst County (3-7)
No. 2 Salem (8-2) vs. No. 15 Fauquier (5-5)
No. 3 Courtland (8-2) vs. No. 14 Glass (4-6)
No. 4 Eastern View (9-1) vs. No. 13 Pulaski County (4-6)
No. 5 George Washington (9-1) vs. No. 12 Charlottesville (5-5)
No. 6 Woodgrove (7-3) vs. No. 11 Loudoun County (5-5)
No. 7 King George (9-2) vs. No. 10 Dominion (6-4)
No. 8 Handley (6-3) vs. No. 9 Liberty (6-4)

those thinking westfield is going anywhere is sadly mistaken. they were thoroughly unimpressive against a .500 Chantilly team last night. could have easily been beaten had Chantilly not had 3 unforced turnovers. as for their qb - tilly coaches had to be praying he would drop back a cple more times.

My daughters go to robinson and I have watched most of the games on friday nights. It seems like alot of the offenses in this region are very conservative. Centreville, chantilly, oakton, herndon, robinson, and south county all seem to run under-center, wing t or multiple tight end option sets. There seems to be an emphasis on running the ball in Virginia, is there a reason why? We moved from south carolina last year, and many of the teams down there have gone to 3 and 4 wide receiver sets and run the shotgun-zone read offense.

Sorry if I sound like the new guy on the block, but was just wondering why coaches seem to favor the conservative approach up here.

There are other teams like Lake Braddock, who do spread it around and have alot of success. Why don't more teams have this approach?

Falls Church runs the same offense Lake Braddock does, FC averages about 38 points per game.

One word, SPEED. The vast majority of teams in the area don't have fast enough skill guys to run consistent spread style offenses. By contrast, we have plenty of big strong linemen which allows teams to run the ball effectively.

Honestly, I think this is the best team Chantilly has had in 4 years. The record is deceiving in some senses as *Chantilly played the most difficult schedule in the region based on opponents wins/losses, and I do think they are better than a .500 team. The 5 opponents they lost to had a combined record of 41-9, and they lost to 3 of those teams by 1, 2, and 3 points. Take a way one of those losses and they're a top 10 seed, 2 and they're a top 7 seed. You are what your record says to some extent, but I commend Chantilly's performances this year and they are right there with Robinson and Westfield as shown by their close games.

Here are this week's spreads. Honestly don't know a lot of these teams so just made spreads for the sake of spreads. May change as the week goes along.

Division 6
(16) South Lakes @ (1) Centreville (-49.0)

(9) TC Williams @ (8) South County (-14.0)
*This will be a good game, I think in Lorton though, South County will be able to have a fairly easy win.

(13) Stone Wall Jackson @ (4) Washington-Lee (-14.0)
*Don’t know SWJ, just a guess.

(12) Battlefield @ (5) Langley (-6.0) *Awesome game… I think
*I haven’t seen Battlefield this year, but know they’re a fairly successful program in past postseason play. Very tough draw for Langley, wouldn’t be surprised if Battlefield leaves with the W. Tough to have teams in here that haven’t played Northern Region teams… weird.

(15) Chantilly @ (2) Lake Braddock (-20.0)
*An awesome 15 seed, which played the toughest schedule in the region and played most teams right down to the wire. Unfortunately losing by 1, 2, and 3 the last 3 weeks to 3 really good teams sunk them down to 15 where they’re not going to be able to do any damage against Lake Braddock. Still sucks for Braddock though, who I am sure would kill to play Hayfield instead.

(10) Fairfax @ (7) Yorktown (-21.0)

(11) Robinson (-7.0) @ (6) Patriot *Another awesome game!
*I think Patriot is good too, but I’m going with the known team.

(14) Hayfield @ (3) Westfield (-24.0)

Division 5
(16) Edison @ (1) Massaponax (-35.0)
*Who the hell has seen Massaponax?

(9) Albermarle @ (8) Falls Church (-14.0)
*Same goes for Albermarle

(13) Mount Vernon @ (4) Tuscarora (-20.0)

(12) Jefferson @ (5) North Stafford (-28.0)
*North Stafford may be the dark house in this region, have seen tape of them, and they’re pretty legit.

(15) Lee @ (2) Stone Bridge (-45.0)
*2-8 Lee should forfeit. That being said I do commend them on playing a tough schedule.

(10) Freedom Woodbridge @ (7) Broad Run (-14.0)

Good teams find a way to win close games Stevek2, but nonetheless you raise a good point. On another note, one of the teams Chantilly lost too (Langley) beat them by around 21. I haven't heard much about their program and they seemed to come out of nowhere this year going 8-2. Whats your opinion on them? do you think they can do anything in the playoffs?

I did see Langley play Chantilly and I like them a lot. They have the best offensive line in the Northern Region. If they get past Battlefield, which I have not seen play and is historically a very good postseason team, I do think they can beat Westfield. It is just going to be about eating the clock and getting 3-4 yards on every run. If you watched the Standord-Oregon game this week, Langley is capable of doing what Stanford did to Oregon against a lot of teams. I like Westfield's run defense too, but Langley should be able to open up holes right up the gut.

If Langley were to pull up the upset, it would be a very intriguing game against Lake Braddock, as I don't think Lake Braddock could stop their running attack. I would pick Braddock in this one just because I don't think Langley's pass defense will be able to stop Braddock's passing attack. So yes, definitely keep your eye on Langley; but when all is said and done in a few weeks I'm taking the safe picks and fully expect to see Lake Braddock @ Centreville in one of the most anticipated region finals ever!

soco offense ran more plays, played closer games, kept starters in longer. what if lb kept offense in past halftime? hmmmm...more points?

Steve, don't mean to disappoint, but the only way Cville and LB will play is if it is in the State Championship game. There is no regional finals anymore. Whichever two teams win during the round of 4 on November 30 will play the two teams from the South in the State Semis the following week. Then those two winners play for State Championship. Cville and LB would both need to beat the two teams from the South and then face each other in the State Championship game.

There is a 6A region final, but it goes by another name, known now as the VHSL state semifinals game and you don't get a region trophy.

No it's not. Go to VHSL.org. (1) Round of 16. (2) Round of 8 (3) Round of 4 (Quarterfinals) (4) State seminfinals when 2 North teams play 2 South teams (5) State championship. Read and understand before calling someone wrong. There is not a "regional championship".

This is for the 1A through 3A groups. Not 4A through 6A North. Read my thread over on "High School Football Playoffs (Standings/Matchups) for each individual group has different rules.

Class 6A Playoff Explanation
---------------------------------

Regions: 6A North and 6A South

How the playoffs will work in the North: The top 16 teams by power points from the North will be placed in a 16-team traditional bracket (1 v 16, 2 v 15, etc...) that will play down until there is one team standing. There will be no re-seeding along the way.

How the playoffs will work in the South: The top 8 teams by power points from a 'sub-region' made up of teams combined from Conferences 1 and 2 will advance to the postseason along with the top 8 teams by power points from a 'sub-region' made up of teams combined from Conferences 3 and 4. The eight teams from Conferences 1 and 2 will be placed in a traditional 8-team bracket (1 v 8, 2 v 7, etc...) and will compete against each other through two rounds. There will be no re-seeding. That will leave two teams standing. The eight teams from Conferences 3 and 4 will be placed in a traditional 8-team bracket (1 v 8, 2 v 7, etc...) and will compete against each other through two rounds. There will be no re-seeding. That will leave two teams standing. The four teams remaining in the South (two from the Conference 1 and 2 bracket and two from the Conference 3 and 4 bracket) will then be re-seeded 1 through 4 based on their regular season power points. #1 will host #4 and #2 will host #3.

Final Four: In the North, the two teams left standing from the traditional 16-team bracket will play each other for a regional title and the right to go to the state championship game. In the South, the two winners from the re-seeded 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 games will meet in a regional final and the right to go to the state championship game.

State championship: The lone survivor from the North will play the lone survivor from the South.

Peyton, I stand corrected. About a month ago, I went to VHSL.org and read the tournament rules. I just went again and it does say they are not going to cross bracket the state semis. I swear that is a change because I read it before and it did not say that. So in essence, they are going to have North champion play South champion in Class 6. I guess for travel purposes??

Correct, they were changing the rules a few times in mid-season for the different regions. It is quite enough to make one's head hurt.

Thanks Nat...I thought I was going crazy there for a minute. I've been quite diligent trying to understand the new system...following the weekly standings, etc. Even with that I screwed up!

Will the semifinal game be played at highest seeded team's site?

Yes, and its by highest seeding at the START of the playoffs (as are all region games) so Centreville would host if they make it that far.

DeMornay Pierson-El deserves special recognition even though West Potomac did not make the playoffs. He carried West Potomac on his back all year but just did not have the supporting cast to make a big impact in the Northern Region. Have a good college career! I will be following you at Nebraska!

Here is an idea, why even play the playoffs in the 6A north?

Everyone says Centreville is going win because they are so good, so why even bother playing! Lets just crown them now and wait to see who they will play from the south. I am sure all of the the 6A north coaches will not mind, they can pack away all of the equipment and just get ready for next year.

Any thought on that?

Adam Neff is the defensive coordinator at Centreville.

Coach Neff is at Centreville. Number 1 team in the state and one of the top defenses. No coincidence there

Yeah:

(1) I saw C'Ville go to Hayfield, fall behind 7-0 in Q1 and end up leading 37-7 at half. C'Ville has some good athletes on both sides of the ball and blew out and shutout teams such as Westfield and Chantilly. So it's easy to undestand its top seed in the North. To compare, I saw LB-SoCo and came away thinking SoCo's D is fast but often so out of position that it would struggle vs. C'Ville.

(2)That said, favorites start every game tied 0-0. Just look at what Oakton did last year to 3 favorites in winning the NR. The same goes for D5 Lake Taylor in the ER--beating Phoebus by +50 points and going up by 3 TDs over SB at UVA before holding onto to win, 20-14.

(3)C'Ville has to win 4 straight games just to rep the North at UVA. That's a long way from the crown and teams aren't likely to punk out at game time. You have too much good FB up here for that to happen.

(4) Coming from the ER, I can tell you that the beach teams are well aware of the power that comes out of the North. Those Westfield title teams, for example, were awesome. Yet O. Smith, Ocean Lakes and a few ex-CR teams have some swag this year, too. That's why I'm going to UVA like every other year to enjoy the competition.

"I think it's safe to say that the class of 2013 was the last good chantilly team well see in a while. They only get worse next year with losing their starting receivers, their whole starting offensive line, and majority of their defense. LB should end their season next week."
post is almost entirely incorrect. they grad only 2 Oline. and as for the D - addition by subtraction. worst D CHS has had in dozen years, so no, not the last good Chantilly team. returning starting QB (who has thrown for more yards than Henderson)and most of Oline.

Does anybody know where to find the complete lists? Also are they going by "All-District", including all the teams of former districts or are they selecting "All-Conference" from the new ones. I know some teams didnt play their new conference schedules yet to preserve some rivalries so are they doing they same?

Okay, I've posted my annual printable playoff brackets for D5 and D6 over on my standings thread at High School Football Playoffs (Standings/Matchups). Just copy the picture and print it at a full-page size.

The Concorde all-district teams were voted on yesterday. Several of the HS programs tweeted out congratulations to their players yesterday. Shockingly, not every player selected was from Centreville or Westfield.

Glad to see that - he was impressive against Westfield. After Westfield scored 4 TD's in the 1st quarter (up 27-0) they pulled their defensive starters for the first Herndon series in the 2nd quarter. Westfield's 2nd/3rd string could not contain Bumbrey and Westfield had to put their starters back in at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to make sure the game stayed in hand. He like 230+ yards...

W&L is some Sh*t and falls church is ass, by far the two worst teams. All they do is throw quick passes, if you can pt pressure on their quarterbacks, you're guaranteed 2-4 picks from each
