Yeah, I quit listening, too. Fucking boring. Rob(b) needs to stop wasting his time.

Also, unless he got a big severance check from CBS (which I doubt), I wouldn't be squandering my savings at Busch Gardens. There are cheaper options out there (camping, for one).

I think he was just promoting his "show." But I don't think the station is actually going to run it. And I don't understand why he just doesn't do a podcast instead of loading something up to an FTP site for radio stations that will never run it.

As far as Lavaar, good bad or indifferent, I just dont find all the sports talk that interesting. He and Chad seem to want to make a show based on their on-air bantering and battles (though they dont seem genuine). Mike Wise's voice just isnt made for radio. And the Junkies are the most entertaining at this point, but it's the same 'ol same 'ol and their "lingo" is annoying.........

After listening to Mike Wise and LaVar, I have come to the conclusion the "The Fan" format involves no analysis or insight AT ALL. What is involves is these idiots coming up with a mundane topic and asking "The Fans" to call in with their opinion.

It's literally, "What is the better sport? Basketball or football?" And then fielding calls from idiots for 40 minutes until the next question. "Which sport has the dumbest rules?"

It has virtually nothing to do with actual sports. It's not like Steve Czaban, who will go into an insightful discussion about how AAU is impacting college basketball or debate what role instant replay should have in baseball. It's a true "phone it in" format. Hell, if O'Meara had been willing to be paid $50K a year, he would have flourished in this format because it doesn't involve actual work.

I'm still convinced this format was designed with the intent to punish the listener,,,,what else could it be?

Mike Wise and Lavar are there to drive every listener of JFK away,,

Maybe CBS and M. Hughes own stock in Sirius

Seems like Lavar's intellect stopped developing around 10th grade. Helluva an athlete, but he has little intelligent commentary on anything, including football. They could have put your average high schooler in there and the show would be no better or no worse.

I wish I could have listened (for uber train wreck purposes)...but when I saw the DCRTV notice about Rob(baye)'s return. I think: Hmmm, the guy has been in radio since the 90's and this is what he's been reduced to?

No support from MOM? Donnie probably wants to see the kid make it on his own or whatever before he hooks him up?

The O'Meara show must have been doomed from the start. CBS gave MOM "months" of vacation after the D&M show retirement, and MOM shit the bed (props to Ron Bennington/R&F) in terms of coming up with anything.

I listen to Ron and Fez (and "Wacky" crew) on SM/SIRI and I wonder, what, oh what prompted Hughes to get rid of those guys in deference to the shit WJFK broadcast in their absence?

Ron and Fez kill in daily sports discussions - stuff LaVar and Chad can't do given the milque toast shit-cast format they are forced into. Well that, and LaVar just doesn't have much of a bandwidth. No offense, the guy is pleasant, but he isn't smart enough or worldly enough to host an extended talk show.

So, in the end, it comes down to Michael Hughes, CK and the rest. The Junkies, given their recent ratings success will even survive, long after the "Fan" is dead, and JFK, is all soccer mom, easy listening hits AC format.

But, in two years, the Junkies will be older, and the "S" moms will probably get really horny when Lurch talks about "getting a chub", and EB talks about jerking off to porn...

And the person with the "REAL" CHUB will be Michael Hughes, as he continues to collect his CBS checks and bonuses.

I live a a world I don't understand any longer...

No one is talented enough to carry Lavar-

Lavar Arrington is radio novacaine, its impossible to pay attention to what he's saying or follow his train of thought,,,he sounds bored and he bores his audience

Its pretty clear there is NO show prep with Lavar or Mike Wise for that matter

The Mike O'Meara show may have been a load of shit,,,,but it wasn't as big of load of shit as the mike wise show or the lavar arrington show

And for the record---mike wise,,Mr Hawaii,, your a fuckin stink haole (How-lee)

For fun I suggest calling mikey and telling him that

That's a shot at Snyder's Red Zebra. But if you listen to Steve Czaban, he constatly takes the Redskins to task. He was making fun of Vinny Cerrato having a radio show when he should be managing the team during the season. Also, when Riggins is on, he takes shots at the Skins all of the time.

The real criticism is Larry Michaels. That guy is such a fucking hack. He is the radio version of Vinny Cerrato...a talentless toady who keeps his position by kissing Mr. Snyder's ass.

Yup, when Larry took over the play by play a few years back, it was another death knell for Jack Kent Cooks Legacy. I would rather have to listen to Lavar, Mike Wise, Peter Rosenberg, and MOM show all day then Larry's kiss ass play calling and post game interviews.

For you Donnie G haters out there....

DCRTV gets confirmation that Carl Grossman, 60, the Leesburg man who pleaded guilty in Fairfax County Court in May 2007 to a misdemeanor charge of stalking in connection with a January 2007 incident in which former WJFK afternoon host Don Geronimo (aka Michael Sorce) received a letter that allegedly contained threats to himself and his family, has died. Grossman, who had been a frequent caller on the Don and Mike O'Meara show, was given a one-year jail sentence with 10 months suspended, followed by a year of probation and a period of supervised mental health care. Grossman's sister, Sara, tells DCRTV that her brother's death "was very sudden and unexpected. Of course, my family blames Don Geronimo for his death in a weird way." She adds: "Our view is that if Don had accepted Carl's written apology, or allowed Carl to pay a fine and be on probation instead of insisting that no plea could be reached unless a jail sentence was attached, then Carl would not have been fired from his job, would not have been denied unemployment benefits, would not have lost health insurance, could have gone to see doctors and afford medications for his asthma, and would not have died uninsured and with respiratory failure that he could not afford to have treated properly." She says that Carl went to an emergency room last Wednesday. He was released from the hospital on Friday and was found dead of an apparent asthma attack on Saturday morning after placing a 911 call at 5 AM

"Weird way" indeed. I will do one better. Maybe if the guy hadn't been a fucking stalker, none of this other shit would have happened to him. God forbid anyone should take personal responsibility.

WTL based on what I have observed with regards to your posts politcal topics, I do find it vexing for this call of personal responsiblity. Not that I am judging, but you come across as being liberal, albeit a rational thinking one. Generally speaking, liberals are more likely to blame society or the problems of an individual.

I'm not a Michael Moore liberal as much as I am a Harry Truman/JFK liberal. Government isn't the answer for all problems, but there are some issues that only the government can address effectively. For instance, I was listening this morning about how developing nations around the world are starting to kick our ass on the broadband front because they have national broadband strategies while we have been relying on "the free market." Well, "the free market" is going to focus its energies on profit centers like New York, LA and Chicago and is going to fuck parts of the country without sufficient population density. So, in the case of broadband, government should play a greater role.

And I am all for individual responsibility. I'm no bleeding heart.

It's a lot easier for these countries to have a high-speed infrastructure due to their geography. For instance, South Korea is one nation to whom we're often compared broadband-wise. They are roughly the size of Indiana and have 48 million people. There already exists a huge network of copper and fiber, so that comparison isn't fair. To keep this on-topic, I suggest MOM move to Seoul and start a show there.

That may be his plan.

So apparently, Rob(b) is producing a weekly four-hour program to play in Sioux City, Iowa until the Mike O'Meara Show comes back together. Earth to Rob(b), there isn't going to be another Mike O'Meara Show. At least, not with you in it.

Stupid guy. Notice how the radio veterans, BA McBride and Buzz Burbank, didn't wait for the door to hit them in the ass to move on. Rob(b) has this mistaken belief that O'Meara is going to look out for him the way Don looked out for Mike.

Nope. Mike is in survival mode. He's not going to pass up an offer over having Rob(b) and Buzz on the team, that's for damn sure.

Question: Anyone hear on the Lavar Arrington show recently, where a caller questioned Lavar on why they were playing classic rock when coming back from a break? Apparently, Lavar said he doesn't program that music and asked what music the caller thought should be used. The caller mentioned he thought they would use something like hip-hop or Public Enemy.

Supposedly Lavar got offended and called him a racist. Anyone hear this? Just curious.

I'll give credit to LaVar for what he said about the NAACP having a pro-Michael Vick rally in Philadelphia. He basically said, "Instead of holding a rally for a guy who hasn't been the victim of racism, why doesn't the NAACP go out to some open air drug markets in Philly's poorer neighborhoods and shut them down."

I'll give him props for that.

That's because Strayer is designed to appeal to adult students who probably dropped out of high school and who had to get a GED and who never thought about college before their employer made them go to school. Any college would seem "upper crust." Even one based in a strip mall.

A game we can all play

(A) Mike Wise gets fired ( or quits out of shame )

(B) Mike O Meara gets a radio job-( yes AM counts )

(C) Rob Spewak gets any job-( yes Toys R Us counts )

(D) Don Geronimo returns to DC airwaves ( yes C&D can be used together)

(E) Big O and Dukes actually comes back ( assuming a spine can actually be re-grown,,,Chad )

(F) Lavar bores a listener to death ( *this may have already happened,,,autopsy is not yet conclusive as of this posting )

My guesses: F*,A,B,C&D, E**

**Chad, my goodwill towards you is fading fast

Bonus Game!!!!!

Month The fan changes format (M/Y)

My guess: April 2010

Carl "The Merry Jew" Grossman -- RIP

Carl Grossman Loudoun County Employee

Carl Grossman, 60, who played guitar in local rock bands in the 1960s and 1970s and in recent years worked on a help desk for Loudoun County employees, died Aug. 22 at his home in Leesburg of respiratory failure. Asperger syndrome, a developmental disorder that shares traits with autism, was only recently diagnosed.

Mr. Grossman grew up in Northern Virginia and took classical guitar lessons with Sophocles Papas, who owned the Guitar Shop in downtown Washington.

As a young man, Mr. Grossman performed in D.C.-area rock bands including the Jazzmasters, the Organic Cavemen and the Mosaic Virus. He also played with his younger brother Richard in a band in Pennsylvania and taught guitar to support himself.

From the late 1970s until the late 1980s, he worked in Houston doing typesetting work for the Lunar and Planetary Institute, a NASA-funded research center. He then returned to the Washington area and worked in temporary jobs until joining Loudoun County in the mid-1990s on a computer help desk. He worked for the county until about 2007.

Carl Ray Grossman was born in Denver and graduated from George Washington University.

His hobbies included such online role-playing games as World of Warcraft.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Grossman of McLean; two brothers, Richard Grossman of McLean and Michael Grossman of Midlothian, Va.; and a sister, Sara Grossman of Arlington County

Last week on the Ron and Fez Show (XM 202), Ron Bennington recalled Grossman's story and his involvement with Geronimo/Sorce, but Ron didn't mention Don G. by name.

According to Ron Bennington, he was in semi-regular contact with Grossman after his release from jail and he advised him to drop the whole issue with Don and move in life.

Sadly Carl never took Ronnie B.'s advice.

It's a sad end to a time when WJFK was a station worth tuning in to.

I see the new ratings are out on dcrtv.com today, the fan's numbers are down of course, except in the male 25-54 catagory. Funny, CBS didn't seem to care about this demographic as much as they do now. JFK ALWAYS did good in this demographic, but they use to have female listeners too.

All I can say is CBS don't be too impressed with yourselves,,,
When you have to eat shit one pile is as good as the next, and on D.C. area radio all you have is piles of shit

Sports is not a ratings winner. The point is to reduce operating costs with using a sports format. There is nothing wrong with being in 20th place if you aren't paying for Top 5 talent. Not sure what kind of deal WJFK has with The Junkies and Arrington. If these guys are getting paid what O'Meara was, then, yes, the format change was stupid. However, if they are being paid what they should be paid, it could be a money maker for CBS.

Mike O'MearaThanks to all for your very warm wishes. Carla and I were married a bit before 5pm on Saturday at a very small service with her Mom, my best man Peter and my two wonderful daughters. It was a wonderful and loving weekend, and I couldn't be happier with my beautiful bride.about an hour ago.

Wow what a turn around! He's really not doing to bad. He's got a CBS pay check until 10 of 2010, young wife, future ?.

So a few months ago they called it quits because she wanted kids and he didn't, but now they are married?

Hopefully this train wreck lasts longer than his train wreck of a show.

Jackie you cynical, cold hearted bastard. Can't you see O'Mearas on the rebound here? 3rd times a charm not strike three! You have to be blind to not see how much in love those two kids are........... OK 1 kid and 1 middle aged, overweight slobbering, perverted, drunken souse.

Souse

Noun

1. A person who drinks alcohol to excess habitually.
2. Pork trimmings chopped and pickled and jelled. (could be MOMs liver)
3. The act of making something completely wet; "he gave it a good drenching".

Verb

1. Cover with liquid; pour liquid onto; "souse water on his hot face".
2. Immerse into a liquid; "dunk the bread into the soup".
3. Become drunk; drink excessively.
4. Cook in a marinade; "souse herring" or "Mikes O'Mearas liver"

Mike has probably fooled himself into believing the kid thing is a non-issue. Stupid sap. Now that she has him by the nuts legally, she is going to badger his ass repeatedly until he fathers a kid. Then she will badger him to change diapers and take the kid to the park. Then, in about three years, he will do what he has done with all of his marriages.....

From DCRTV

Michael Hughes Leaves CBS DC, Launches Radio Consultancy - 9/28 - DCRTV hears that Michael Hughes is leaving CBS Radio's DC cluster to form MHMedia, a radio management consultancy handling sales, programming, staffing, profit generation, and asset value enhancement. MHMedia will be headquartered in Annapolis at Empire Broadcasting's WRNR. Says Hughes, who has been overseeing programming at CBS's DC stations, including Spanish WLZL, hot adult contemporary WTGB, and sports talk WJFK: "My 10 years at CBS Radio, and 25 years total in our industry, in various senior management roles, across a variety of formats, has perfectly prepared me for this next phase in my career. I will most certainly miss the terrific pros in Washington DC. I've had the good fortune to work alongside, but the time seemed right to put my skills to work for other operators in multiple areas of concentration." Hughes' resume includes management and programming gigs at AM/FM and Jacor, both of which got gobbled up by Clear Channel. Back in 1999, when AM/FM bought DC101, Hughes helped consult the rocker. His programming team hired Elliot Segal and Jon Ballard, who's now at WWDC sister WBIG. Hughes begins his new job on 10/19.....

WOW!! What a talent loss! Don't know how WJFK is going to survive now. I'm sure clients are already waiting in line to tap that incredible well of knowledge and wisdom.

Good question. It's possible Kinnard's association as "Junkies", um, 'Producer' may keep him @ JFK - but who knows, maybe someone @ CBS has finally regained consciousness and held Hughes accountable for his beyond dismal track record at JFK.

All in all, "Good Riddance" is the best that can be said of the Hughes' era.

I took 106.7 off my radio presets a few weeks ago. I tuned back in on Monday to listen to the meltdown after the Detroit loss, but that's the first time I've tuned in for quite a while. I really enjoyed the Junkies melting down, but not enough to draw me back in.
