Multiple games within a week is not good for players, either.

or do we have a lack of big time Division One talent in the area this year?

Who are some of the top kids on the top teams, and do we know if anyone has big time offers.

You know, kids like Jonathan Allen from Stone Bridge (All-SEC last year) and DeShawn Hand from Woodbridge?

Best lineman at Stone Bridge has a ride to Old Dominion. Stone Bridge QB to UNC-Charlotte
Woodgrove's best lineman is going to Bryant (?) on a ride.
Tuscarora's QB just had his offer pulled from Richmond. Not sure why.
Broad Run's best lineman, their quarterback, and their running back are all juniors, although QB has a 1/2 scholarship to Maryland for LAX.

I've never really cared enough to look, but I just checked the overall Win/Loss record for the better NR teams since 2000 which shows just how dominant Westfield has been.

Westfield: 149-36 (2 State Titles)
Centreville: 128-52 (2 State Titles)
Robinson: 127-51 (1 State Title)
Oakton: 115-61 (1 State Title)
Lake Braddock: 108-64 (0 State Titles)

To be fair, Stone Bridge has a record of 164-33 during that time which is outstanding.

All those wins and only 2 trips to States. Cville has 4 trips in the same time period.

Judging a school by its athletes and coaching staff. In this time period most Westfield sports have been consistently good. Basketball state runner-up last year girls win field hockey and lacrosse pretty consistently. Westfield football not really any better then other Westfield sports.

Cville football has been consistently good, while other sport teams have been awful to just OK. Girls some success, but not nearly as much as Westfield over the years. On balance, Westfield coaching staff has not over-performed.

Almost.

2006 6-4 no playoffs
2008 1-9 no playoffs
2009 3-7 no playoffs

Westfield football has made the playoffs 13 consecutive years. That is the longest current streak in Virginia 6A (North or South). That’s consistency.

At LB game...haddock crying all night. Braddock up 33-0 and goes for 2 to get running clock. haddock screaming across field " that is classless Jim". said it ten times on a bullhorn. there were 9 plus minutes to go.

after game Haddock said something to Poythress then walked thru rest of LB staff saying going for two was classless. 9 minutes left!!! Doesn't Haddock remember killing people. one thing about Poythress is that you will never hear him cry. That after 9 seasons on sideline.

Tell Haddock he was a great coach with talent. Now he actually has to coach. Time to Stop crying and coach Bro!!!!!!

He's got them out there till 7:00 doing sprints and up-downs all week. He's just doesn't have the players this year. He can't coach them up more than he has. They just aren't that a good of a team this year. Taking it out on the kids every afternoon isn't gonna help. Might make him feel better though.

Looks like the top 4 teams in 6A North are shaking out to be: South County, Lake Braddock, Westfield, Robinson. Probably in that order. But we shall see. Thought I would see more out of Oakton’s offense but they were totally shut down by the Westfield defense. Oakton’s defense looked pretty good until they fell apart in the second half.

Lets not give Oakton's Defense to much Credit. Westfield's Offense/play calling was atrocious in the First Half. How many times does one team need to Run up the middle for a net of -30 yards before they conclude they have NO Running Game. It went something like this. Run, lose 3. Pass, gain 8, Run, lose 2, snap ball over punters head, net 20 on punt. repeat 5 times to conclude first half. Second half, Pass TD, Pass TD, Pass TD, Pass TD. Put in back-ups Run 0 Gain, Run 0 Gain, Run 0 gain..Punt Stuff Oakton Offense Repeat with back ups.

They figured it out eventually. I don't agree that that the play calling was atrocious but it did lean a little heavy to the run side when it was obvious that it wasn't working. But not giving up on the run certainly helped keep Oakton defense honest. I know it's hard to believe but they did get over 100 yards on the ground - #31 had a couple decent runs.

What does this say about the Patriot District? Who played QB for SB and how did he do? Nice rebound after the Westfield smackdown. What happened to Muskett?

What it says is the WS, LB and SC are undefeated against the Concorde with wins over Robinson twice, centreville and WF. WS also handled oaktons one's in the scrimmage

WS qb has had a sprained ankle since his game winning run against Robinson in week 1. The fact he's playing is remarkable.

It says WS doesn't have much depth but when they are at full strength they can beat anyone.

Kudos to SB. They look very physical. I think they went with their RB at qb. Styles make fights

Touché. Ouch. Didn't noodle that through. So LB and SoCo will meet in the last week at 9-0 each. That should be a good game.

Yea SC v LB should be a good game. LB wins though. SC is just terrible on defense. They have talent but do not play sound football. I wouldn't count out WS v LB. Both games last year were decided by 2 points and winning at the end of regulation.

Good thing about football is every time you step on the field you have a chance to prove yourself. Lots of football left. However WF defense may be able to bring home the regional championship

Oakton laid an egg last night against Westfield. Plain and simple. This is NOT an elite Westfield team. They were beatable. The game was 0-0 until 25 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. The wheels came off for Oakton in the second half.

The D played better than the score indicated. WF had some short fields in the second half thanks to turnovers, and thanks to the Oakton offensive play calling, the D was on the field the entire second half.

Very discouraging. Thanks to their schedule, Oakton may very well end up 4-6 this year. Bad.

On another note, Jack Clancy was on crutches at the end of the game. Did not see what happened, as he seemed to play every down while he was in and I did not see him get injured. Anyone know what happened?

You have to be kidding, I know the Centerville Coach did not embarrass himself screaming across the field with a bull horn about LB strategy to go for 2 and get a running clock. You play to win the game. going for a 35 point lead is not classless at all in fact exactly what a team should do. Not so good without the good OC and DC and 6 D-1 kids. Actually not bad coaching you just don't have the talent this year and people thought they could win just on the name. I see a 5-5 finish and possibly a 4-6 record.

That game is October 16. But it will be a big game, and likely decide #1 in Conference 6. I predict that Madison will win

Right now, I'd say the most likely end of season results for Conference 6 will be

1. Madison
2. South Lakes
3. Hayfield
4. Yorktown
5. Langley
6. Fairfax
7. W-L
8. McLean

Oakton laid an egg last night against Westfield. Plain and simple. This is NOT an elite Westfield team. They were beatable. The game was 0-0 until 25 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. The wheels came off for Oakton in the second half.

_____________________________________________________________________

This is the best defense Westfield has ever had under Simmons, he said so himself. Four of their five suspended starters on offense return this week. I don't think elite is the definition but look at their record with what they've had to work with on offense. Think many schools in the region could lose their potential starting QB, starting RB, best OL, and 2 starting WR's and have the record they did regardless of the competition.

Oakton didn't lay an egg, Westfield did what they were supposed to do, special teams and defense set up their lethargic offense for the win. As usual the offensive play calling was very predictable. The Oakton defenders were calling out plays before Westfield snapped the ball.

What happened to open the game up was that someone on the Westfield staff decided to do something they hadn't done all season, throw consistently. Up till that point Westfield had been a run heavy, go nowhere offense with opposing defenses packing the box and stuffing the run.

I think from this point on what you'll see now that the suspended playmakers are back is more of what the second half looked like. Their defense and special teams have been carrying them to this point, now there actually might be some offensive help. Big blow to see #41 on crutches, hopefully he'll be back. But the mantra has always been next man up, they've proven that through the first half of the season.

Not saying their going to win it all because this is the most wide open it's been in 6A North for a few years. But don't think for one minute that Oakton actually ever had a chance on Thursday night. Westfield coaching staff just finally decided to take the training wheels off the offense and open it up a bit.

Give it up Its like 4 kids are missing Scanlon is the QB The other dude lost the QB battle and to keep exaggerating how many players were missing is a joke. A really good D with an ok offense even when all 4 players are back and I am a Westfield fan. Oakton is not good period.

Scanlon's the QB but if you're a Westfield fan then you know the other QB who "lost" his job is actually the more natural QB. You also probably know then that the plan was for the two to alternate. You then obviously also know the other QB runs the read option much more effectively.

You should also know then that if there are only 4 kids, as you put it, that's still a significant number. I'm not justifying anything, my post was merely to state that if the original poster thought Oakton actually had a chance he was watching another game from what the rest of us were.

Take 4 skill position offensive starters, the number you stated, off of any team in the area. Think they'd be 4-1? That was the other point I was making, nothing more.

So relax...

My source had that game wrong. But I don't see that Wakefield has had 2 conference games yet. In the olden days of yore, we had those things called newspapers that would do this sort of thing.

Not to pile on but this is a fact. After the first series it was obvious that Oakton was not going to put any points on the scoreboard. We'll see how the offense develops over the next five games but I rate Westfield in the top 3 in 6A North right now just behind SC and LB.

Kinda funny, an Oakton fan watching the game says not impressed Westfield no good, a Westfield fan discounting the win saying Oakton no good. Truth is probably somewhere in between.

__________________________________________________________________

Actually, yes. Oakton laid an egg. Of course, they were calling out the plays. They play WF every year and the two teams and coaching staffs know each other's tendencies and schemes. As for not having a chance, they certainly did. Until the last half minute of the first half, it was a 0-0 game. They were definitely in it.

As usual, WF was well coached, made adjustments, and executed. Oakton did not. Their D was on the field the entire second half, they gave WF some short fields, and they made Scanlon look like Peyton Manning with piss-poor tackling and coverage. Not suggesting WF is not the better team; they are. It's just Oakton is usually playing two opponents: themselves and the other team. You cannot consistently win that way. They are their own worst enemy.

I have watched the Westfield teams going back to Evan Royster and Mike Glennon. This is a solid WF team; but it's not elite. Solid may be good enough this year though - given that some teams are down this year.

While WF has a good record, with the exception of South County and Stone Bridge (with its Div QB out for a good chunk of the game), they have played bad TC and WL teams and a down Oakton squad. Let's wait to see how well they do against the rest of the Concorde schedule before anointing them the 6A champions.

Any word on Clancy? I did not see the hit if that's what it was.

To all of you WF haters, best of luck to your squads success in this "down year" for the WF and Centreville squads. Now is the time to step up and stop your pity party and Concorde envy which so prevails some of your posts. If WF doesn't do well now that they are no longer playing "Dixie" your prognostication will be correct. If on the other hand they play well and get into the playoffs again, then you will need to finally agree that the program is in fact solid. Without many D1 prospects, they year in and year out get into the playoffs. There are very few squads around the northern region that can claim the same success. Yes they have fallen in the playoffs more than they would like, but at least they show up to the table and are not standing back against the wall dreaming.

Let the teams play and see who comes out victorious at the end of the game, and not at the end of the 1st half. There are two half's for a reason. Best of luck to all the participants.

A lot of interesting results this week with a couple big surprises (mainly how average Centreville is and how West Springfield got drubbed).

Centreville @ Lake Braddock (-7.0)
*Lake Braddock won 33-0. I really thought this would be closer. I guess I have to come to the conclusion that Centreville is not very good this year having not seen them play. Granted they played an incredibly 3 strong teams consecutively, to get blown out twice, I think removes the Wildcats from any contender list.

Edison (-8.0) @ Stuart
*Edison won 34-7.

Fairfax @ Langley (-14.0)
*Langley wins 36-0 for their first win of the season.

Falls Church @ Marshall (-7.0)
*Marshall wins 42-6. As I stated last week, I think this team is surprisingly the favorite this year in their conference. They’re 2-0 in conference and still haven’t played the 3 worst teams.

Thomas Jefferson @ Annandale (-45.0)
*Annandale won 42-0.

Lee @ Briar Woods (-35.0)
*Briar Woods won 42-14.

Madison (-6.0) @ Yorktown
*Madison beat Yorktown 47-21.

McLean @ Hayfield (-31.0)
*Hayfield won 43-28; McLean kept it closer than I imagined.

Mount Vernon @ Wakefield (-10.0)
*Wakefield dominated 45-0.

Robinson @ Chantilly (-7.0)
*Robinson won 24-14. Robinson won both battles at the line and are the better team. Robinson did not attempt one pass the entire game, they are exclusively an option run team, it would have been interesting to see if Chantilly dared them to throw. Chantilly is good but a lot of dropped balls crippled scoring opportunities. I still say Chantilly’s QB is the best in the Concorde, I wish they’d up the tempo a little bit.

South Lakes (-13.0) @ Washington-Lee
*South Lakes won 28-2.

Stone Bridge @ West Springfield (-7.0)
*Stone Bridge trounced West Springfield 41-10. Very surprised at how lopsided it was.

Tuscarora (-40.0) @ Herndon
*Tuscarora won 70-28.

West Potomac (-25.0) @ Woodson
*West Potomac won 45-26.

Westfield (-14.0) @ Oakton
*Westfield won 38-7. Westfield is the team to beat in 6A North.

South County (-21.0) @ TC Williams
*South County won 42-2.

Stone Bridge is pompous, very pompous. Do you know how it burns them that Briar Woods and Broad Run both have more state championships than they do?

Can't wait for the lines this week to come out, Steve.

D6 and D5 are more wide open than they have been in years - There are no less than 10 teams in Norther Virginia that have a legitimate shot at Norhtern Region Championships.

Winning the whole thing this year? That is another story!

Is Wakefield's conference the worst that it has ever been? Look and see when their top teams have played anyone decent out of conference!!!!

Annandale (-25.0) @ Mount Vernon

Briar Woods @ Westfield (-14.0)

Broad Run (-28.0) @ Yorktown

Centreville (-9.0) @ Oakton

Edison @ Wakefield (-13.0)

Falls Church @ Lee (-7.0)
*Look for Lee to get first win on the year.

Hayfield (-10.0) @ Fairfax

Herndon @ South Lakes (-20.0)

Marshall @ Madison (-21.0)

McLean @ Chantilly (-28.0)

Robinson @ Stone Bridge (-10.0)
*This could be considered a minor surprise pick. I just can’t see a one dimensional non-passing team beating Stone Bridge. Has game of the week potential.

Stuart (-14.0) @ Jefferson
*Battle of winless teams will make this a big game for both to avoid a 0-10 season.

Tuscarora (-10.0) @ Potomac Falls
*Still learning my Loudoun football, but this could be an intriguing game. I feel Potomac Falls is the best team that no one is talking about this season.

Woodson @ South County (-35.0)

Washington-Lee @ Langley (-14.0)

West Springfield @ West Potomac (-3.0)
*This will be a fun game, how will West Springfield bounce back? Similar to my Potomac Falls comment, I don’t think West Potomac is getting the credit they deserve, they have a very dynamic offense, look for this one to be high scoring.

Lake Braddock (-35.0) @ TC Williams

It's unfortunate that the south cheats but the boys in the northern region can be satisfied with a northern region championship. It's not a state title but it'll have to do until the south stops cheating. Civilly had their chance last year but you can't beat talent with the wing T.

I'd say SB was somewhat fluke. They beat a good Robinson team and an extra point from beating SC. However if their WR's and qb aren't making plays they are not that good.

Was looking at Power Points and potential D5 playoff matchups...

Has anyone noticed how god awful Conference 13 is, especially when compared to Conference 14?

13 = Fairfax teams plus Wakefield. Lee, Marshall, Edison, Stuart, TJ, and Falls Church are 4 - 19 out of conference.

14= Loudoun teams Tuscarora, Broad Run, Briar Woods, Stone Bridge, and Potomac Falls.

Those teams are 17-4 out of conference!

The last place finisher in 14 would be a 28 point favorite over the champion in Conference 13!

Take a look at the schedules each conference has to play and it makes things look even worse!

How can Fairfax schools be sooooooo bad?

The enrollment in the D5 schools in Fairfax has changed dramatically in the last 2 to 4 years. The homes around the schools have 60 to 80 year adults that never went south ( kids long gone ) and the houses that sold went to 35 to 45 Government transfers with older or no kids. Hard to keep up with the lower priced homes and population in Louden county and D5. D6 schools school's still holding on but barely. Transfer of power will continue over next few years.

Couple of reasons for Conference 13's struggles, apart from the fact that none of them are really traditional football powerhouses besides Edison:

1) A lot of these schools are having a lot of difficulty getting kids to play football for safely and cultural reasons. Most of these schools dress fewer than 40 varsity players every Friday night, and almost all of them have real trouble fielding freshmen and/or JV teams.

2) A lot of the kids who do play football are some of the best athletes in the school and play other sports, leaving less opportunity for offseason weight rooms and the new Green Day activities.

3) A lot of these schools are poorer and in areas that don't drive some of the huge community sponsorships that you'd find at a relatively average D6 school, and they don't get gates that are nearly as big for football nights because of the size of the schools and the lack of community involvement. Consequently the athletic budgets for these schools aren't nearly as big and they don't have as much disposable income for buying extra equipment for their weight rooms and football programs.

Of all these Schools, Marshall seems to be in the best position. They seem to have really benefitted from the recent realignment. Back when they were in the old Liberty District, they struggled. This includes a 2-8 season in 2014, preceded by two consecutive winless seasons. It's nice to see them having some success after years of losing.

Looking at their remaining schedule, I don't expect them to win this weekend, as they are playing Madison, and Madison is too strong this year (and will likely win Conference 6). Aside from that, I think they will win out, with the possible exception of their game against Wakefield, which will probably decide the Conference 13 championship.

> *Look for Lee to get first win on the year.

Lee notched their belt with a win over Stuart. It's going to be a lonely notch on that belt. Falls Church wins here.

> Hayfield (-10.0) @ Fairfax

Hayfield wins by 14.

> Herndon @ South Lakes (-20.0)

South Lakes wins and covers. Herndon is not a good team.

> Marshall @ Madison (-21.0)

Madison wins, but not by that much.

> McLean @ Chantilly (-28.0)

Same with Chantilly. Wins by 18.

> Robinson @ Stone Bridge (-10.0)

I think Stone Bridge wins and covers.

> Stuart (-14.0) @ Jefferson

Stuart wins, but doesn't cover.

> Tuscarora (-10.0) @ Potomac Falls

Tusky wins and covers.

> Woodson @ South County (-35.0)

Get there early, this one will be done fast. South County wins and covers this spread.

> Washington-Lee @ Langley (-14.0)

Langley wins by 10.

West Potomac wins by 2 TDs.

> Lake Braddock (-35.0) @ TC Williams

Braddock wins by 28.

Is it too early to get a chuckle out of this one?

Of course the earlier poster was a bit optimistic on Cville season but all the rest of you teams and fans can start chuckling only once you have also won 2 state championships and six NR championships. Till then you are just posers.....

The name centerville does not automatically mean you win-- no more AJ Turner, Boose Tutt and now you are just an also ran.

Maybe when some schools are around for 27 years they also will have that many NR championships...

Funny how the other "contenders" like to bring up the also ran argument....by extension that must mean other teams have been also rans for a long time....like said earlier, win something and then pop off

Who exactly are you talking about? Was it the boy from Chantilly?

Scanlon could possibly be the first player in VHSL league history to throw for 5 TD's one week and Catch 5 TD's the next

Centreville is only younger than Westfield and south county in fairfax county.

They have a lot more titles, region and state than a bunch of schools that have been around many years more

If centreville can solve their turnover issue they will be an interesting team at the end of the year. Ask the LB defense. 74 plays run against them and 20 first downs given up. They can run the ball

They didn't lose to weak sisters either combine 3 loses are to teams combined 16-0

Couple of the spreads are much too close...
Let me pick some blowouts for ya'll....

Madison beats Marshall by 30... at least.
Chantilly by 30 or more over McLean.
Tuscarora by at least 21 over Potomac Falls.
South County hangs 60 plus on Woodson.
Also think Annandale beats Mt Vernon by 45 or more.

On the flip side, I think Oahton keeps things close against Centreville, and that Stone Bridge and Robinson is a close one, as will be Briar Woods and Westfield.

Peace.

Please, please stop with the Centreville crap this year. The two D5 schools from Loudoun hung 56 and 49 respectively against them. Broad Run had ZERO yards passing! ZERO! They ran the ball up their ass all night, then Tuscarora did the same thing a week later.
