Well, the Whiffies certainly wilted badly overnight, but while they might want to deny it (like everything else), it sure enough is another beautiful summer morning out here in the sensational Sweet Spot. It was a nifty 73 degrees outside when I first got up, and while about ten degrees will have been added to that now, it's still a bright, bright, bright, sunshiny day out this way. We could see the 90-degree mark for the first time in a while this afternoon though, and there will of course be some chance of scattered showers and t-storms. Wouldn't be late August without those. The trip out to retrieve the morning paper was a tad warmer than it has been of late, but the humidity is down and the breezes are up, so it was still a pleasant enough errand to run. No wildlife along the way, but we know that they are not far away.
Very, very far away on the other hand is the deranged and fantasy-land mind of President Ding Dong. Rather than imaginary Communists under the bed, it's now imaginary anarchists in the closet in the latest reprise and rebranding of age-old, fact-free, right-wing, scare tactics, campfire stories. The goblins will get ya fer sher in their off-base, 'worry about witches' universe. Such a crowd of IQ<80 losers!
In other news, you might wonder how many ERA<80 pitchers the Nats will end the season with. Austin Voth had been making a bit of a name for himself by throwing fairly well in the phony-season, this year, but with Javy Guerra lending a hand by not getting people out upon coming on in relief, Voth fell into a 6-run 4th inning donation to the Marlins cause that all but put the game out of reach. Nats bats did awaken late, but Dakota Bacus was able to give up runs just as fast as we could score them. Even with four hits from Soto and fout RBIs from Eaton, the mound generosity was enough to send the not-so-good-tonight guys down by a final count of 11-8. That drops us back into a tie for last place in the NL East with PHI, the very club that comes in for a silent-season DC visit next. Looks like they will throw Jake Arrieta at us, while we counter with Erick Fedde.
no signs of progress either in sorry old Fall Church City, nor of any further info on the dead bosy found lying in S Washington Street Saturday morning. You'd think a thing like that would command some attention, but if it has, nothing public has come of it so far.
Here agauin is a Water Wars progress report though. The image below shows the once-upon-a-time FCC Water Service Area. After the courts got done with things though, all that was left was the actual city itself -- the tiny clove-shaped area at the lower right. All of the customers, infrastructure, and operating rights elsewhere were vacated in favor of the hated Fairfax Water. Crushing defeat for the Teeny Tiny City. There's simply no denying it.
