There is no photo. (at least that the prosecution has revealed so far)
He has charges, therefore he is being prosecuted. If he his found guilty, he is guilty of the crimes. No trial date is set that I know of yet.

There is no photo. (at least that the prosecution has revealed so far)
He has charges, therefore he is being prosecuted. If he his found guilty, he is guilty of the crimes. No trial date is set that I know of yet.

A Reston basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting an underage girl, was denied bond in a Loudoun County court on Tuesday, the Loudoun Times reported.
Marlow Mikassas Afshartous, 39, who also goes by the name Marlow Talley, was arrested Aug. 3 and charged with sexual assault and solicitation of child pornography after allegedly abusing a 12-year-old girl he coached and trained in basketball and requesting her to take a photograph of herself topless with his cellphone.
Afshartous, who played basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University, has coached teams and trained players around the area, including at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling and Georgetown Day School.

After a one-hour hearing, Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Horne denied bond for Marlow Mikassas Afshartous, 39, amid tears from his contingent of supporters in the courtroom.
Afshartous, who also goes by the name Marlow Talley, was arrested Aug. 3 and charged with sexual assault and solicitation of child pornography after allegedly abusing a 12-year-old girl he coached and trained in basketball and requesting her to take a photograph of herself topless with his cellphone.
A basketball coach in the Northern Virginia area, Afshartous coached an AAU team and trained players around the area, including at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, the now-defunct Hoop Magic in Chantilly and Georgetown Day School in Washington D.C. He played collegiate basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University and had a brief professional basketball stint in Finland. Married with two daughters, he now lives in Reston.
Keva McDonald, defense attorney for Afshartous, called three witnesses to testify on his behalf. All three had daughters that were coached by Afshartous prior to his arrest.
“My daughter has never had any concern whatsoever with Marlow,” testified Kevin Butler, whose 16-year-old daughter has been coached by Afshartous for six years.
Butler and the other two witnesses all stated that they have no concerns about Afshartous being in the community and supported his release.
Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Gigi Lawless called just one witness, Det. Jeffrey Cichocki, who investigated the case.
Cichocki gave sordid details of the now 13-year-old victim's allegations.
According to Cichocki, the abuse took place from April to November 2012 at three separate locations: Claude Moore Recreation Center, a church off Evergreen Mills Road and at an outdoor court on Braddock Road, west of Gum Spring Road. The victim stated that on multiple occasions, Afshartous would kiss her, and in other instances digitally penetrated her and once forced her to perform oral sex on him. The abuse occurred in the equipment room and also in Afshartous's SUV. In addition, investigators retrieved approximately 7,000 text messages on the victim's phone between her and Afshartous.
Cichocki interviewed Afshartous at the Eastern Loudoun Station prior to his arrest. Afshartous initially said he did not recall the incidents and later denied them happening. Cichocki also testified that Afshartous's phone's memory was wiped clean prior to the interview.
“He was a coach and he violated that trust in the most horrific and vile way,” Lawless closed.
McDonald argued that no new victims have come forward and that many people have come to her client's defense.
Horne's denial of the bond appeal means Afshartous will likely remain incarcerated until his trial, which is tentatively scheduled for March.

I really wish/hope all this wasn't true. So many peoples lives will never be the same. I feel for the victim and her family and I also feel for Marlow's family. I can't imagine what each parties are going through. This is so, so sad. All for what reason? I hope in time they can understand and either forgive or get to a place in their hearts where they can move on and live a fulfilled life.

yes, I will still feel for both Marlow and the victim, regardless of the trial outcome. It is the lack of empathy and humanity in society today that is contributing to the spiraling downward in how we treat each other. I also feel badly for a lot of the posters on this thread and others who clearly are lacking many things in their lives, joy and empathy and perspective being near the top of the list. You really can tell a lot about a person based on how they treat others.

While I know it is highly doubtful for Marlow to be proven innocent after all that I have read and heard, I can only feel sorry that Marlow risked his freedom and families well being. He is a grown man who should have known the system of right and wrong. He took that risk and unfortunately he will forever have to pay the consequences.

The maturity level on some of these posts has to make you wonder what our next generation is up against?! The verbiage makes no sense and the grammar is appalling. This particular forum is a serious issue with many life changes at stake for both the victim and the perpetrator's family. For some reason some like to attack trivial, irrelevant topics on this news thread. Have some compassion. Just sayin'

No, I haven't spoken with anyone except Marlow in the past couple weeks. I am not sure what you mean by "everyone is a liar except him." He deny's what she is saying if that's what you're asking. I wonder how many texts him and his wife had during this time. Why do I guess not even half that amount. Marlow put his time & energy in the wrong place. He should have been concentrating on his family and not on a 12 year old girl.

He is taking a HUGE gamble if he doesn't plea. He is looking at LIFE in prison vs. a shorter sentence on a PLEA. With the evidence they have, he should take the plea. But,then that would mean he would have to confess to doing these things, which I know he wont do even though the allegations are not in his favor.

I believe wholeheartedly that there are people on this string that have seen the evidence or at least some of it. To the general public this story is long forgotten. Only those that are truly involved one way or another (either on the accused or accusers side) would continue to visit this forum that is now 4 months old.

I would imagine his wife would be standing by him all the way through to the trial. Does anyone want to ever think their husband could do such a thing? Especially, knowing he has 2 daughters that are not that much younger than the girl he is being accused of doing these things to. Who knows what he has told her. How does he explain the 7000 text messages issue to his wife? She had to be curious to something?

In regards to the picture: Unfortunately, when you buy a new phone the day before you are to hand over your phone to authorities, it's kind of hard to retrieve a old photo. Coincidence? Correct. The claim by the prosecution though is that he asked her to take a photo with his phone. He didn't send it anywhere (if it existed). They don't have a photo or else he'd be charged with more than solicitation.

I am not "thinking what I want". You are just making shit up. That is the bottom line. You apparently missed the part I heard in court with my own ears where the prosecution claimed he had WIPED his phone. No mention of a new phone or any nonsense like that.
