How come the commonwealth of Virginia don't got no professional teams?

Bordering states Nc, Md, Tn, Ky, Wv all have professional sports teams.

Virginia is the real first state and they got know team to represent them.

I propose a multipurpose sportsplex be built where Springfield mall is. It could be a NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL/MLS all in one stadium.

Just got to think of some good team names and this could work!

If Virginia would get a sports team, the owner might try to build a stadium. That wouldn't fly around here:

Doug Wilder tried hard to put the Redskins in Virginia, but wiser heads prevailed.

Virginia did have a professional basketball team for several years, the Virginia Squires of the ABA. At one time Dr. J and George Gervin played for them.

Virginia also has several minor league baseball teams.

Surely you've observed that the teams are called things like the "New York" Knicks, or "Boston" Red Sox, or the "Philadelphia Eagles, or the "Detroit" Red Wings. There is an important clue here. Say them out loud if it helps. Professional sports teams are typically centered around a major city, not a state -- the Tennessee Titans, New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Panthers being among the notable exceptions.

Virginia doesn't have any major cities. All of greater Richmond has a smaller population than Fairfax county, and the Norfolk metroplex is hardly bigger.

Besides, there would always be the embarrassing possibility that a Norfolk based team might chant that cheer of Norfolk Catholic High "We don't drink, we don't smoke, Norfolk, Norfolk" on national tv.

Wasnt Marty Snottinheimer coaching a WFL or some crap team like that in Norfolk or Va Beach not too long ago?

DC already has these teams:

NBA - wizards
NFL - redskins
MLB - nationals
NHL - capitals
MLS - dc united

Its because of the lack of a major city. Fairfax county has a high population that many cities with pro sports teams but its right next to DC

Ok, this argument has some merit actually. Statisically, our area fares very poorly because of this. If you list the top US cities by population, Virignia simply doesn't rate. Why would any investor back putting a team in a state (errr... commonwealth) where there will be no one watch it.
