Westfield does have talent but that QB needs to be replaced. Surely Simmons can find a better one in the Fall.

Westfield’s quarterback is serviceable when their o-line stays on their assignments and doesn’t tire out/forget technique in the 2nd half.

Does Chantilly have what it takes to win a district championship against Madison without their Starting Quarterback? Not sure if he'll be back at some point but if he's truly gone that'd be huge. Defense of Chantilly is definitely one of if not the best in the region besides Madison.

The game should be the same as the Lake Braddock battle. Robinson must have the worst defensive backs in NorthernVA! The game is going to come down to which team has the ball last. Expect a BB score! But I'll be watching for sure!!!

Last year So Co 58 Robinson 0. Big boy played well but. This year score will be closer but SoCo has always played well against the 1970s style Robinson offense. Robinson Defense is suspect!

Where have all the LB Bruin lovers gone on this forum? Haven't seen anything about what DOC is cooking, how the best staff in the state is doing, or anything else along those lines! All those D1 recruits and they are headed to basement in the playoffs!

They have some terrific players, too bad the best staff in the state can't mold them into a better team.

We won't hear from them until they play South County. I expect full-blown bullshit that last week of the season.

Lake Braddock supporters were told not to post here anymore.
It was causing to much pressure on doc and the staff.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Lake Braddock attempted any run plays vs Robinson. The Rams never had answer for those long bombs!!!

Patriot Outlook

South County Looks they are starting off like they finished last season....winning

Robinson Great running team, but can they throw the ball when they have to? We will find out this week how really good they are. Spoiler...good but not great! they will lose to South County

Lake Braddock Started the season with a bang beating Westfield, then lost to Robinson because they couldn't stop the run. They beat a hapless Woodson team.
I think they get better and make a good showing against South County the last game of the year

West Springfield Always starts off great, then they play the big 3 SC, Robinson and LB. Can they turn the tide this year, they already lost to SC...so probably not

Fairfax They always manage to win a couple games each year. Can they beat Woodson this year to get to 4 wins

Woodson An embarrassing last 2 years for the Cavs, they cant stop the run or the pass...only winnable game for them might be Fairfax. might be time for a coaching change at Wilbert Tucker.

Concord plus

Madison very fundamentally sound and play hardnosed football. Looks like the team to beat. They will be heading for a showdown with Chantilly in 2 weeks, that will tell a lot

Chantilly maybe the best defense in the region? Can they score enough points on offense. How long is the QB out?

Centreville Great on offense, but not so much on defense. What wins championships?

Westfield Down year for the Dawgs, still could play spoiler They will be much more ready in about 5 months. Look for them to bounce back in a big way, next season

Oakton Believe it or not they are getting a little better, its tough playing that schedule, you have to win the non conference games. Look for them to be improved next season, but its still going to be tough playing that schedule

South Lakes They were competitive against Centreville, but lost. Other then that they haven't really played anyone. Is McLean really a test for them?

Herndon Most teams line up to schedule Herndon for homecoming, there is a reason for that.

Madison’s defense is better than chantillys, the notre dame commit is good but madison is too much to handle

TC Williams Always has great athletes, but they are individuals who dont work together as a team. Is this the right coaching staff to bring them together as a team? Would hate to play them in the first round of playoffs, if they make it.

Annandale Probably their best season in a long time. Not a good team, but an ok team. Will be back to struggling next season

MTV They lost a lot from last seasons playoff team and it shows. Struggles will continue into next season

WP Always has athletes just not enough of them. In fairness I haven't seen them play enough to make any determination

Hayfield Struggled the past 2 season, Is Henderson's magic is wearing off?

Uh...yeah, and Westfield had how many starred-recruit (maybe overrated) difference makers that didn't show up, and the Madison TEAM beat them.

Chantilly is done. They won’t beat Madison or Westfield, they don’t have the offense. They were lucky to beat Cville. Don’t think C’Ville will beat them either. Their line is bad on offense, thin on defense. SoCo is the team beat. Don’t think Madison can can hang with them.

I don’t think you’ve watched them play, they beat a really talented Westfield team, by being more athletic and stronger. People like to say Madison is unathletic because they are white, watch them play they have a fast ass qb, great weapons and a fast defense.

Westfield isn’t athletic this year.. your take on Madison is in comparison to the other non athletic teams they play chantilly etc they can’t cover a team with real threats

Lake Braddock & Madison have both faced adversity & came from behind to beat Westfield. That counts for something in Northern VA HS football. South County haven:t been pushed by anyone yet. The Lake Braddock game will show if their ready to challenge Madison. But I don't see it happening.

I don’t get people saying Westfield is a bad team, they are a damn good one. They have a huge line, might be overall bigger than Robinson’s or a damn near close second, they have a D1 athletic 6’5 tight end a top rb in the state and also a receiver who is great and has generated some offers too, on defense they have athletic dbs a big strong athletic D1 lb and another strong and athletic junior one and 4 or 5 guys who are 6’3 250 and athletic on the Dline. This is a great team who will win out the rest of the regular season for sure. I’m more impressed with the teams who beat them they should get more credit than they have!

As I said in a previous post, Robinson is a good team, but not great.
You have to be able to run and pass to beat teams like SC, Madison, Westfield and Chantilly. Being one dimensional like Robinson, they will never get out of the region.

Madison still has to play Chantilly and Centreville, 2 winnable but very tough games. In the playoffs they could play either again. Much tougher road to win the region for them. Whoever comes out of this region will be battle tested for sure, but also could be beat up!

SC has Fairfax and LB. LB gave up 28 points to Woodson, I dont see them being much of a threat for SC. I dont see anyone else in this region challenging them. A much easier road to the North region final for them.

Net -77 total offense vs Smith Defense so far this year. They play a very good but not great Deep Creek 3-0 team on Saturday. Libe Stream on NFHS Network. It will be entertaining.

Smith's issue is still that Scott Coached teams do not play well-disciplined games!!! Penalties are way too many which can hurt them vs top teams. They STILL have problems with their PAT / Field goals!!!! These are problems his teams had at Ocean Lakes, too!!! It's tough to watch after experiencing Rich Morgan's led Tigers. To win Regional Finals & State games, it takes more than 2/3 of a football to win those games. You can say a lot about that heavily recruited Manchester team that won it all in 2018, but their Special Teams gave them an edge in their playoff win, and they just didn't make a lot of mistakes either. Freedom had studs everywhere but they couldn't pull it all together as a team. Freedom had the same problem in 2019 vs Massaponax!!

This Smith team has the most talent since their 2008 team. But their sloppiness does make them vulnerable.

I don’t know what game you were watching but Chantilly completely stuffed Cville all game all those D1 “weapons” they have and they couldn’t even score twice. If it wasn’t for the jump balls they kept throwing up to #10 they wouldn’t have even scored at all. Chantilly’s offense is entirely new this season all sophomores and juniors who in fact are very good for their young age don’t count them out yet. Although losing their starting QB is a huge setback for them.

CVille was also missing there best reciver number 11 and now with the qb Tilly is done. Yes they beat CVille who is completely one dimensional. They will get washed when they run into teams like Madison and Westfield who can run and throw the Ball and also play great defense

Their star linebacker just transferred to the avalon school in maryland. Dudes are jumping ship westfield is going downhill.

Cville still had 250 yards of offense. More than what Chantilly had. So that’s not completely stuffing them. They did do a nice stopping the run as did South Lakes. Their line sucks!! Part of the jump balls were under thrown passes and should have been touchdowns. They did score two more tds that were called back. One pass and one kickoff. I bet Tillyville was nervous as hell at the end.

They have kid who is going to Tech, he's bigger than your average HS football player, he's good, but not great. Also, let's be honest, VT isn't a power in college football, haven't been in quite sometime. The RB is good, but is too slow to be considered the best RB in the state. He's great north and south but is too slow when trying to get to the outside. Not up to speed on any beach schools but I'm sure that's where you'll find the best RB in the state. The D1 LB your talking about is going to Howard, not only not a football power but not even a quality program. I haven't seen Westfield in person only online but they look small, they've looked small the last couple years. They are not as good as they've been in the past, face it, this is not your typical Westfield team. It's okay, happens all the time, public school programs tend to have down years, it's natural. They also appear to have a lot less players than the program has had in the past. You look back a few years ago, maybe 2012-2014, there were over 100 kids on the Freshman team and another 150-175 on the JV-V team combined. The demographics are changing for Westfield, they may not ever get back to those numbers, hell, no public schools in this area probably ever will again.

Damb, that wasn't me. What it sounds like to me is that all the anti-football crap is likely catching up to some of the Fairfax Youth teams! If the feeder programs aren't dominating, then Coach Simmons can't create miracles, no matter how many head Coaches he hires!!

The other thing is that the multisport athletes that play soccer, lacrosse or baseball are not playing football this year due to the overlapping seasons...

Shields is a good coach, his forte is defense, pretty sure one of the reasons he took the job was so his son could play. If Shields had stayed at WF his son would not have started until he was a senior. The majority of the coaches look like an SYA football teams staff. Never a good thing when your coaches are the parents of the players in the program or future players!

Madison had three offensive turnovers in the endzone/at the goal line (two fumbles and an interception),plus a few inopportune penalties... otherwise score would have been different.

Marshall always plays Madison tough in this game too, and Madison was tight coming off the Westfield win (and, to be frank, a lot of eyes on the game due to the Marshall/Wakefield mess).

Chantilly vs Oakton

Chantilly 41 Oakton 0 Final

All game Chantilly was just pounding it down Oakton’s throat. Despite not having their starter, the back up QB for Chantilly and their offense kept rolling. #5 for Chantilly is a very good player can catch and run and even break tackles in critical moments. Chantilly’s defense once again looked great. Their Defensive Line deserve a lot of credit for that feat. #9 (Notre Dame Commit)had to the best of my knowledge 3 sacks in this game and was just dominate. Madison would have to control him in order to have a passing attack next week but he isn’t the only dominate player on that defensive line....two other guys whose numbers I cannot recall were also playing very good each racked up a sack as well.

The job Coach Curry has done at Chantilly is nothing but spectacular from 0-10 in 2017 to fighting for a district championship in back to back years in just 4 seasons as the coach is remarkable. A lot of people crapped on him after that 2017 year but he was determined to go through it and he did and no doubt exceeded everyone’s expectations.

As for Oakton not much to say except Oakton looked bad. Ever since Rowleys staff left and joined Chantilly, Oakton hasn’t stood a fighting chance against the Chargers. Appears Rowley is getting the last laugh and will continue to get the last laugh year in and year out against the Cougs. Oakton’s defense isn’t good they’ll most likely finish the season with 1 win. Their QB isn’t bad he can throw a good ball place him on a team like Chantilly or Westfield and he could easily be the guy.

Can’t say much about this game as I only watched the part of the 3rd and the 4th but to get two opportunities in the red zone and not even score once to take the lead with a minute to go is atrocious. Centreville is going to need to do some soul searching this off-season as this team has under performed greatly with the amount of talent they have on offense.

As for Westfield, Coach Simmons continues to show why he is one of the greatest coaches to come from this area. This team isn’t as good as the last few years yet they’re still competing give him and the kids that play for him credit for the job they’ve done.


Madison vs Marshall

Watched a bit after Chantilly and Westfield’s games was shocked the score was so close and Marshall scored late to make it 14-6 but was quickly called back due to a flag. Despite the missed scores and touchbacks by Madison a game being this close against a team that lost many of their starters from last weeks game against Wakefield is surprising for a team that’s expected to web contenders for the state title. Even so Coach Counts has continued the program from where Coach Schultz left off and has been a great coach for this program should be proud of where this team is at.

Two Coaches that have continued to build their programs in all the right ways. Madison will look to win it’s first Concorde district title since joining the district back in 2017. Chantilly will look to win the district title for the first time in a little over a decade.

If Westfield wins out, Chantilly loses out, and if Cville can beat Madison, then they are all 4-2. Can one get into the playoffs and who?

Per VHSL, games canceled Covid-19 concerns will not be forfeits but just games not played. This might require the above #'s & rankings to change.

No predictions, but I have done some back of the envelope calculations about the playoffs. Note: the many permutations with opponents wins that contribute to a team's bonus points are not included, so this analysis can be a bit off.

Assumptions (you may not like these, but they are probable and/or must happen):

1. MAD, WF, SL and McL all win out.
2. CH loses to MAD and WF. I say this because this factors into the only chance WF has of making the playoffs over Wake. If CH does lose twice CH is out and that is why you don't see them on this list. If they win at least one, they are in but I did not do those calculations based on my assumptions.

Using my assumptions the playoff seeds look like this:
1. MAD
2. SL
3. McL
4. Here is where it can change. If WF wins out, they are in UNLESS Wake loses to a 3-1 Justice or a 2-2 FC. If Wake wins out, they get the 4th slot over WF.

There are other possibilities based on what the opponents or a team competing for a playoff slot do, but they are far too many to compute. There is even an outside chance CV gets in, but that relies on multiple upsets over the last two weeks from a lot of teams.

With that said, it really means we need one more week to get a clear picture.
