Fairfax 27, McLean 0. Final.

Both teams were scoreless until about 2 minutes left in the first half. Fairfax's sophomore QB connected on a 22 yard TD pass for Fairfax's first score Fairfax took the second half kickoff and had a 4 minute sustained drive for their second score.

Yes, it's McLean, but Fairfax looked pretty good, given the late change in coaching staff.

Both south lakes and Woodson struggled a lot tonight. SL scored very early (firsy drive if I remember correctly) and Woodson scored off of two separate bigger plays. Neither could sustain a drive.

For the people who thought LB vs Westfield would be a competitive game.....WTF were you thinking? hahahahah

The best coaching staff in the state was at Braddock tonight and they clearly out coached the wanna bees from Braddock.

Lake Braddock will not able to compete with the better teams in the region as long as Doc and staff are there. They can talk about all that competitiveness, toughness and significance all they want, tweet about how practices have been great, but bottom line, they need to know how to coach the team, they clearly dont know how.

Looks like they will be practicing tomorrow morning......lol

Good to know Doc and staff are doing something at Lake Braddock, it sure isn't winning football games!
If Westfield didn't have so many penalties, they would have scored 60!

Let’s see, last year without much of Doc’s influence and against a better WHS team game was closer, this year under a whole season of training against a worse, smaller WHS team, you all got blown out. Yep, he’s doing amazing things. Good luck against SB.

Coach Doc and staff are doing the best they can, they just dont have enough talent at Lake Braddock to beat a good team like Westfields. A lot of the better players graduated and are playing college football, thanks to coach Doc and staff.

Its still early in the season people need to be patient with this team, they will start winning soon enough. The coaches are working out the mistakes and will get this thing right

Chantilly has some players. Lost by 5 but easily should’ve won. Had a TD negated due to the official blowing the play dead because he thought the runningback got the ball on an option, and later got screwed over on a no call on a blatant PI on 4th down with 2:30 to go. Went to the game to see if Chantilly turned it around this offseason and can say I was very suprised. They have the potential to be a 5-5 team this year.

I wouldn’t get carried away, Hayfield is not that good and def not good enough to ease up after jumping out to 21-0 lead after first qtr. HHS also has a lot more pF penalties that killed whatever momentum they had going or Gabe CHS a 2nd chance. All in all, yes CHS is better but you need to taper your enthusiasm, I think 3-7 is more likely.

HHS post Cobbs era is not the same.

The WF team of this year may be small in numbers and missing a few big bodies, but worse? You're an idiot, this is a team that could go spread and roll points up on pretty much any D in the region. They are loaded with skill/speed guys, their D all but shut Dematha down last week, 7-0, in a game where size wise they were far outmatched. Hell, if it hadn't been for the 2nd string D the Bulldogs went to a litlte too soon LB would have only scored 7. Say what you want about size, WF looks like pretty much every team in the Region this year, the difference will be their skill and ability to score at will.

Now it’s a “lack of talent” thing ehh? You have a D1 scholarship LB. athletes everywhere but don’t use them correctly. Instead of trying to steal Westfield asst coaches in the off season so you can get him to steal signs try being a better coach to the kids.

it's not all Docs fault....

Their feeder program, BRYC, sucks! I mean it has collapsed.

This is the last year of any quality players BRYC developed before it really tanked the last 4-5 years. There are a few but nowhere near the great players BRYC once put out!

LB, WTW, and Robinson are headed to West Springfield territory. SYC got real bad real fast. It's over for SC because their feeder sucks.

BRYC has no real leadership, plan, management, community commitment like they used to have. No recruitment plan. Those three HS's families supported BRYC. The good coaches left or quit or were fired. They had trouble finding ANY coaches this year and they have 40% of the kids they used to have.

This happened to WSHS about 4-5 years ago and started at SC about two years ago.

Your problem is not your isolated into just BRYC it’s affecfing all of fcyfl. Even the might VYI youth program fielded 1-Ankle Biter team this year. I remember when we used to have 5-6 AB teams. FCYFL is down 650 kids compared to last year. But the good programs and coaches are adapting.

Doc catches more shit because either he, his wife, or one of his kiss ass assistants have been playing him up here for a year LIKE NO OTHER COACH IN THIS THREAD. Then, this two year program blows up the first game of the year. And, one of the key kids that beat his ass was a BRYC youth player that his assistants knew from BRYC.

We should be in Awe?????? Awe????? In awe of what he has done at WTW and LB LB recently got close to state titles with the old coach who was fired because of politics. He had a program.

BTW, Many of the WTW assistants know those LB kids very well because they were there recently so Doc better be ready. You know they have a plan.

I may be a homer but you sir are the dumb ass! So based off your logic then the team from 2015 must have been worse than last year and the one from 2016 must have really sucked since they were 14-1 & 13-2 respectively. I mean, both won the 6A title, just as the 2017 team, but due to your moronic thinking, whether you win a title or not, it's all about the number of losses doing so. Please, think before you type, prevents you from sounding stupid.

Well it would be tough for the chargers to get worse! But they have a hard time tackling and can’t throw the ball. Yes Robinson is a running team, but Tilly has not been able to stop them for at least 3 years. This year is likely different. You are what your record is and this coach is 0-11.

By the way, your original comment about this years team being worse than last, last year they went undefeated, largest classification of the state, won their 3rd consecutive title. By stating this team is worse you're obviously inferring that last years team was bad, just not as much as this year. You see where I'm going with this, correct? God damn!!! You sir are a fucking MORON!!! Never once did I say they were bad. I said comparatively speaking unless they match wins and titles they are worse = meaning this 2018 is not equal to the 2017 team that went undefeated and won their 3td straight title. I can’t think of a kid from last years LB Team that is playing college football because of Doc. He spent most of his time shitting on his seniors and talking big shit about how they would be better with out them. Well, it’s put up or shut up time. I am betting once again he talks a better game than he coaches

I don’t see what the Doc haters are seeing or hearing. I do not know Coach Dougherty or need to know him to see haters having no base besides not accepting change.

High expectations are awesome and necessary, but they must be realistic. LB has average talent and is an average team. This means they will make the playoffs each year, but not contend for a state championship. ( Not hard to make the playoffs and it isn’t a big deal in today’s HS football landscape.). This is not Coach Dougherty’s fault. (All coaches have a fault. Who doesn’t.) If you have HS coaching experience you know it takes talent, no matter how good the coaching can be. If you argue this, you just don’t get it. Really if you argue this, you most likely have an internal, personal conflict with Coach Doc within your own mind.
No matter who coaches LB they aren’t going to be a powerhouse. The former, present, or a new just isn’t going to change anything (Maybe a new coach cheats and recruits. Which many powerhouses do.) Doesn’t matter who the coach is. The program just doesn’t have powerhouse talent. And that isn’t a bad thing. Winning isn’t everything. Coaching kids to be discipline, play with class, and add values leading to success on and off the field is very important. I know people on this board only care about winning. I just think the expectations are too high as Looking at past posts on this forum about LB. Really sounds as if people just have personal feelings getting mixed up with logic.
Have a great rest of your weekend. I appreciate you reading my post.

There would be a lot less Coach Doc haters if he did less self promoting. They appear insecure by touting themselves on social media and throughout The community about how much better their program is versus what was happening under the previous Coach. I wish they would just Coach their team and shut up. That would eliminate a lot of the noise.

That's total BS, LB has more talent then most teams in the region.

They have athletes all over the field, coaching is what makes a good team great.

A better coaching staff at LB, they would be contending every year for a state title. See previous years under the former staff.

At LB expectations are much higher, this staff had no experience with winning programs, so you get what you get. This staff would rather tout themselves in social media how great they are and complain that there is no talent at the school, why dont you hire coaches that can coach?

Riverside beat Rock Ridge 30-10 - will RE even win 1 game this year? What is wrong with football there?
Briar Woods lost - can they get back to the top where they used to be?

Anyone have early thoughts or predications for next week games?

Tuscarora won handily despite not having their three year starting QB. Kid has a broken arm and even when it heals, he will be suspended. Can't drink and drive, son, unless you are QB in the SEC. Team is big up front. Will be tested next week in a monster game v Broad Run. BR mopped up Potomac Falls 31-0. People forget that BR beat Tusky by 16 in the regular season last year, and then drove the length of the field in the 4th quarter to win their semi-final in last year's regionals, but kid missed a chip shot by about 6 inches. This should be a helluva game. BR is faster and more athletic, but smaller.

Dominion seems to be building something. Not sure if any of the Park View kids helped, but a little surprised the beat a very solid Clarke County program.

Woodgrove stomped on some school called Armstrong for the second year in a row.Hard to tell what they have but they were very young last year and might be in the middle of the 4A district crown.

Stone Bridge was off last week and they will beat a small and slow Loudoun Valley team on Friday by however many they wish. Then, they get Lake Braddock at their place. Should be interesting.Well, we know that Doc isn't half the coach that Thompson is, so maybe not that interesting.

Was shocked that Heritage destroyed Freedom - South Riding. Coached by former NFL player Jason Belser, Freedom seems to be regressing.

Riverside is getting better, and Rock Ridge is getting worse. To be honest, it is easy to see why the best kids at RR want to get the hell out and transfer to Stone Bridge. The coach is a lunatic and the administration lets the kids shit all over everything. It really is a harbinger of the future whereby all of the kids get away with whatever they want and the lib administration sits back and lets the place turn into a shit hole with no discipline and no direction.

When LOCO power 4 schools play each other is when we’ll pay attention. Other than that rest of loco is meh. Dominion is 4A who cares.

LB Parent. It is not surprising you think LB has always had talent and still does. Hence, parents think their kid is better than they are. I’m sorry, the rest of VA has never thought the same about LB. Flashes, not consistency doesn’t make a stable of talent. Sorry, onlookers to the LB football program always knew LB would and will lose the big game. That was and still is the MO.

Who are your LOCO power 4 schools?

Broad Run and Tuscarora must be on that list.

They play THIS Friday!

Stone Bridge gets to wax Braddock the Friday after that.

Stone, Bridge, Tusky, and Broad Run.

Who is your fourth?

Coach Simmons wish he had the talent LB has year in year out. Imagine what he’d do with those squads. 2015-2017 State championship teams and how many D-1 kids did he have? Mean while LBSS has had Caleb, A.Parks, record breaking Lamont Atkins, it’s absurd the riches LBSS has had. Meanwhile Bulldogs top recruits biggest profile school has been Army.

I fully understand your position and I don't necessarily disagree with it. But I don't think saying the words "winning isn't everything" should be spoken in such a direct way.

I do have to disagree that LB doesn't have the talent or hasn't. LB has won 17 playoff games in the last 9 seasons. There aren't many teams around that can say that.

I was at the Westfield-Lake Braddock games the last two seasons and LB was competitive and kept both games close until the second half. They got completely blown away in both 3rd quarters. That's coaching.

How did Robinson beat Hylton? I had heard Robinson wasn’t very good and Hylton always has talent. Anyone at the game?

Robinson played a great overall game. Defense and offense were in sync and physical. More importantly, did not take any penalties. Hylton looked the exact opposite. I don't get all the criticism of the Rams, but last night looked like one of those old-school Mark Bendorff type of game.

Maybe PWCO is being over-hyped. PWCO football went 2-6 against teams from outside of Prince William County this weekend.

PW football is very top heavy. Freedom, Woodbridge are loaded. Patriot, Battlefield, and Hylton are talented and should be good. The rest are a step or two down from them. Hylton might not be in this group by the end of the year, but many thought they were the 3rd best PW school before the weekend. The other schools are below average to very bad.

Why can’t they get a team working? I feel bad for the kids!

Typical keyboard tough guy throwing verbal insults instead of thinking it through. Since you seem to be unable to grasp my point let me try and make it clear what my problem with your original post is.

Please understand the stupidity of using the word worse, it is synonymous to the comparative of bad. My whole issue was choosing worse to compare the 2018 Bulldog team to the 2017. Maybe a better choice would have been not as formidable, less talented, less superior, or not as impressive, get my drift.

But instead of being able to be rational and put some thought into it you lash out with verbal insults. Thanks for showing us your intellect by the way, I think we all know who in the conversation is of less brain cells.

For anyone that doubts what a difference coaching can make take a look at what happened to Hermitage on Friday. Took a 67-0 beatdown from Highland Springs – the worst loss in school history.

Their 17-year coach retired at the end of last season and Hermitage had to hire new head coach. Hermitage was 175-44 and made the playoffs 14 times during Kane’s 17 years coaching there, including ten seasons of at least ten wins.

I know Hermitage is a little “down” from last year but I can guarantee you a Coach Kane prepared team would not have taken anywhere near a 67-0 drubbing. Coaching.

C’mon man, you sound like Giuliani “truth not truth”. Worried over semantics instead of realizing that yes they are not as good as last year therefore are worse off. If you don’t understand please look it up or download a dictionary app

To fall off from beating Highland Springs Aug 17 to that 67-0 loss of last week, a series of unfortunate events had to have occurred. Of course, they lost their coach, but several of their top players left the program and some of those ended up at Highland Springs. Last, Highland Springs like many top programs got better and some top talent transfer into their program.

The change in coaching likely also affected community support. All of these issues impact a football team. Great Coaches develop and foster an environment for his players to survive but the community must participate in the process.

All the more impressive what K.Simmons is doing without getting “transfers” and doing it with what he has.it is puzzling why there aren’t more kids knocking down the doors to get into his program.

Although some of the stuff said on this board may be true, there is another reason that River Ridge is struggling with football-demographics. Their demographics are NOT conducive to football (take that for what it is worth).

a. Nothing wrong with RR demographics. They have lost a lot of transfers the last couple of years. Coach is fine. Some parents are nuts but not much can be done about that.
b. Lake Braddock sophomore QB looks very good. They are set for the next 3 years.

"Going to give some predictions based on what I have seen having 2 sons play high school football over the past 6 years. Remember, this is my first time doing this so hopefully I can nail some of these spreads. Feedback is also welcome...

1. Annandale (-10) @ Stuart
- Annandale rarely loses to JEB. Don't think JEB has enough to pull it out. Although I don't see a blowout, Annandale wins easily.

- Annandale loses 26-47. Maybe "Justice" just needed a name change. Blew this one.

2. Stonewall Jackson @ Centreville (-14)
- Don't know much about Stonewall, but this should give us an early idea of what to expect from Centreville.

- Centreville wins 44-7 and covers. Solid week 1 win.

3. Hayfield (-35) @ Chantilly
- Hayfield has a junior transfer QB who came from Braddock & Chantilly is horrible. Hayfield will score 50+.

- Hayfield won but didn't cover. Jumped out to an early 1st quarter 21 point lead, but played a very sloppy game. Also, shoutout to Chantilly. Much improved. I can see them winning 3, MAYBE 4 games this year.

4. Edison @ Mount Vernon (-30)

- Mount Vernon won 56-7 and covered. (35-0 in the 1st quarter)

5. Fairfax (-10) @ McLean

- Fairfax won 27-0 and covered. 12 straight loses for McLean now?

6. Roosevelt (DC) @ Falls Church (-28)
- Who allows FC to schedule multiple DC teams every year? It gives them 6 home games a year, as well as easy wins.

- Falls Church lost 20-43... Down year for the Jags? Not sure.

7. Westfield (-7) @ Lake Braddock
- Game of the week. GREAT early season match-up and it'll give us an idea as to Westfield & LB's talent.

- Westfield won 42-21 and covered. Didn't see the game, but both schools will be challenged again this week.

8. Langley @ South County (-30)
- The spread could've been higher...

- South County won 40-7 and covered. Glad I didn't make the spread higher LOL!

9. Lee @ West Springfield (-10)
- Snooze fest.

- West Springfield won 56-40 and covered. Lots of points, maybe not a snooze fest after all. Nonetheless, both schools are below average.

10. Marshall @ Madison (-28)

- Madison won 42-14 and covered. Nailed the spread on this one.

11. Oakton @ Battlefield (-28)

- Battlefield won 44-0 and covered. Looks like Oakton is up shits creek without a paddle again this year..

12. Robinson @ Hylton (-21)
- Don't know much about these PWC & Loudoun schools, but damn Robinson isn't what they used to be.

- Robinson won (!) by 21, 28-7. This one really surprised me. Are the Rams the real deal or did Hylton just fall off after losing Slade & Co?

13. Woodson @ South Lakes (-13)
- Low spread, given I don't know how much talent SL has with the graduation of the 2 studs. But, if you think they are going to lose to WTW, you need to be drug tested.

- Woodson won 14-7. Maybe I need a drug test LOL! Didn't think South Lakes would fall off this hard.. I see why the coach took off to FFX.

14. Osbourn Park @ T.C. Williams (-25)
- They're probably going to have to start this one RIGHT after school. (Shame TCW doesn't have lights - feel for the kids, but the Saturday afternoon games are unique. Also, OP is terrible. TCW will cover.

- TCW won 65-32 and covered. It should be noted this game was close for 3 quarters and then TCW took off and ran it up.

15. Northern Virginia Homeschool Association @ Thomas Jefferson (-6)
- Wow. I don't know where to begin with this. Should TJ continue fielding a team? At least they are scheduling schools (Is NVHSAA a 'school'?) that they can kinda compete with. Hopefully they win a few games this year.

- TJ lost 25-32. Will they get a win this year? (The Manassas Park forfeit does not count in my book as a win, although it technically is)

16. Briar Woods @ West Potomac (-17)

- West Potomac won 24-14 but did not cover.

Week 2: I have a better idea now of what some schools have to offer, who fell off, who stepped up, etc. Going to give the spreads a shot again. As always, feedback is welcome & encouraged y'all.

1. Annandale @ Woodson (-17)

2. John Champe @ Centreville (-14)
- Centreville gets revenge at home from last year's loss.

3. Chantilly @ Robinson (-21)
- 2 teams that, from the looks of it, have improved from last year. Robinson is just too physical for Chantilly. 10 years ago this would have been game of the week.

4. Falls Church @ South Lakes (-7)
- I don't know what to think of this one...

5. Hayfield (-35) @ Edison
- MTV scored 35 1st quarter points on Edison. Gotta believe Hayfield is capable of the same.

6. Herndon @ Lee (-7)

7. Madison (-35) @ Fairfax.
- Old SL coach faces his first ass beating.

8. McLean @ Marshall (-6)

9. Mount Vernon (-30) @ Langley

10. South County @ Westfield (-9)
- Game of the week. Any thoughts y'all?

11. Loudoun Valley @ Stone Bridge (-30)

12. James Wood @ Stuart (-28)
- James Wood takes Park View's place. Small school from the mountains I believe. Stuart, excuse me, "Justice" wins easy.

13. T.C. Williams (-28) @ Gar-Field
- As stated earlier in this fourm. PW schools are very top heavy. Gar-Field is at the bottom.

14. Thomas Jefferson @ George Mason (-25)
- Does TJ get a win this year? I remember when they were in the same district as Stone Bridge...

15. Washington-Lee @ Wakefield (-6)

16. West Potomac @ Lake Braddock (-10)
- Also could've been game of the week. I think LB gets revenge at home this year, but I can see it going either way. My head is telling me Braddock, though.

17. West Springfield (-7) @ Oakton

18. Wilson (DC) @ Yorktown (-10)
- Annual Yorktown home opener against a DC school.

It's going to take a team like the decade old, 2008 Oakton Cougars with their smash mouth Offense & Defense to beat the Bulldogs. The games they've lost have all had power running games. SouthCo have had their chances over the years but I haven't heard that they the horses (pun).

I think Madison & Centreville are the only opponents that have a chance to beat them. I actually feel the strength of schedule will hurt them this year. Come playoff time, they could be surprised by a team that's gotten tougher throughout the year.

a. watch the playoff games from even last season. Battlefield, Patriot, South Lakes (Alston AND Mensah) and Woodbridge tried to get a running game going against Westfield with little consistent success. Oscar Smith had decent production and *maybe* could have done more damage. But their best RB got hurt in the second half and it didn't go quite so well after that.
b. same schedule as last year. didn't seem to hurt them. it's really all about whether they stay healthy as they have no depth and if the team really does get better throughout the season.

Last year is done & gone. Smith's best RB didn't play their last 2 games. This year Westfield clearly does have the big boyz they've had in pst years. If there's going to be success against them, it'll be a team that can wear them out. Not sure who that is but I know Woodbridge is going to be read come playoff time.

If coaches were honest... LOL!

Our team didn’t take the scrimmage seriously, showing up late for the meetings during the week, we didn’t prepare ourselves... Eldridge isn’t too sure about the season..

South Lakes is down compared to the last couple years but Falls Church is down too, and South Lakes won 42-0 last year. Seahawks cover comfortably.

35 should be the first quarter spread.

Marshall to cover.

Westfield looked dominant last week once they got their offense going.

Has Justice/Stuart been a 28 point favorite since the Charlie Garner era? James Wood is supposed to be terrible.

TJ beat South Lakes 36-0 in 2012. Seems like a million years ago.

Both schools' enrollments keep going up, their football teams don't get any better.

WP needed a lot of breaks to beat LB last year but they might cover 10 points.

Wilson should be favored.

Wouldn’t surprise me, LOCO teams are well known for breaking the rules. Since it’s mostly affluent white schools people turn the other way.

Centreville looked really good versus Stonewall. Not sure if they are contenders this season or if Stonewall was really just that bad. Champe should give them a good test.

There is no one on Wildcats roster that can cover Knights WR Tyler Savage. If Champe coaches are smart they would throw his way every 3-4 plays.(early in the season his conditioning may not be where you can throw it up to him every 2-3 plays yet)

What makes Westfield so good is their coaching staff.

Their forte is halftime adjustments. Ask any player that has graduated or the coaches they play in the playoffs.

And, they don't mind a loss or two before the playoffs. Wrinkles are saved for the big games.

A lot of blow outs, I mean, real blow outs this week.

Also, a lot of double digit wins.

Stone Bridge, Woodson, Hayfield, Madison, Mount Vernon, Justice, TC Williams all win going away.

Westfield, Centreville, Robinson, West Springfield, South Lakes, Lake Braddock, and Marshall also should all win by double digits.

Wilson of DC will handle Yorktown.

Arlington football is absolute garbage, but only game this week tough to pick is Wakefield and Washington and Lee. How about W&L by 6?

Best game locally by far is Broad Run at Tuscarora. By far.

If you are going to include crap teams from Arlington in your point spreads, at least include stud teams from Loudoun.

How about coming up with a name and some facts? Accusing Woodbridge of recuiting? Need more than your vague comment. Otherwise, a kid moved from Alexandria to Woodbridge. Who cares!

Schools have to file a formal complaint. Without concrete evidence which usually requires hiring a private investigator, nothing is going to happen. Good luck.

VHSL needs to implement rules regarding playing eligibility of in-season transfers. If you transfer after the season has started you should not be eligible to play in the playoffs at all. And I would suggest a minimum of 5 game hold-out. It has to be done.

Unless he has 5th yr of eligibility, I doubt he was there for him. Probably circling back to see who else he can scoop up from Bruins and some early season scouting. I’d bet they will face each other again in playoffs.
