Can WPO provide a better challenge against the Mighty Warhawks tonight than the lowly Rebels last week?

I think our starters gave up less than 70yds the entire first half. Don’t think FHS even got a first down the first 2 Qtrs. Counts has this team rolling! Too bad LB & Doc can’t say that.

Stone Bridge vs LB will resume at Noon tomorrow. Hope neither team has guys taking the ACT tomorrow. Might be some kids short!

And the person above that said LB would be Robo in the regular season and lose to them in the playoffs, has that backwards, LB ended the Bendorff era at Robo in the playoffs.

Embarrassing to say the least.

Any chance a SB coach reads this board, and is as tired of the "best staff in the state" bs as the rest of us? That many points is either the SB coach trying to make a point, or theLB players making one of their own.

What’s shameful is the lack of sportsmanship running the score up like that. Stonebridge has all kinds of money for everything and clearly size over the LBSS players. They have many players over 250 lbs and two coaches with NFL experience, at least two. It was no match. It was a loss for LBSS for sure but you can sthu about Coach P or Doc. Just shut up.

True. But they had to get all their transfers playing time. The real shame is that their top 3 running backs this year are transfers. It wasn't like Lake Braddock was playing against Stone Bridge- they were also playing against a top athlete from Atlee, Oakton and Rock Ridge. Stone Bridge stinks. Zero respect for that program.

Cry all you want about Stone Bridge, but we have the best recruiting program in the state. Oh, and yes, all of our running backs transfer in. More nuggets? In addition to the Rock Ridge kid who transferred in, we also have two of Riverside's best players. They didn't even bother to move. They just stayed where they are and drive to school on their own. Complain all you want, but Loudoun County won't do anything to us. They are too scared to even bring it up, never mind VHSL. Jesus, stop whining about recruiting. SB has about 1500 kids lake Braddock has about 3500. You would think they could find a couple athletes in the bunch. Our savior and lord Doc has run the score up against quite a few in his short career of winning too. How do you tell kids not to score when they have a chance. LB starters could not stop the 3rd team. Last week LB put a lot of points up against an inferior team and I don’t Renee’s St Doc taking his foot off the Gas

Gosh, this crap gets old. The school district is the only authority that can discipline any recruiting or use of ineligible players. For the hundredth time, they will not do anything without a written formal complaint from a school principal! Without hard evidence that usually requires the use of a private investigator, NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

What if 2 school districts are involved? Not everyone transfers intra-school district. FCPS is not capable of "disciplining" a team from PWCS.

Poythress would not have beaten that stow bridge team. Yes LB played badly and should have even beeen competitive a little but don’t act like anyone else would do better if they were coaching LB. Foolish. Simmons would have lost with the lake braddock vs stone bridge team if he was the coach. Let’s not kid ourselves, LB isn’t what they were and next year will be 5-5 or 6-4 with their talent. They aren’t a powerhouse and won’t be for a long time. Even if doc is fired

They have enough talent and should at the very least be competitive against teams like Stone Bridge, Westfield, Centreville etc...

The staff should be embarrassed that this team wasn't more prepared and looked lost all game long. Yes, Stone Bridge is a very good football team, but are they 67 points better?

I have to say I’m officially concerned that while we’ve been focused on winning at SB, we’ve done some less than legal things with our kids. It’s a matter of time before the coach loses everything for our boys when he runs the score up like that. I for one am worried about the culture we have created for our kids now. I’d prefer my kid play for LB’s Coach Doc and lose than be part of a program with questionable practices even though winning hS been everything. Our system needs an overhaul for all our sakes. The win feels good but it’s also tainted with dishonesty. Sorry. That’s the truth. Coach Doc is a better man and coach because he does not do underhanded things like we do. We deserve to be dequalified for allowing ineligible boys to play and for recruiting. LB has been victimized twice this season, once by the kid who played one game and left and then by our SB coaching practices. It’s wrong yet we still go the things we do to win. LB really is the better group of people.

Whether HonestSBDad is a genuine father of a SB player or not, there has been too much shade thrown at the SB program to not warrant an investigation. VHSL must do more to investigate and regulate. In fairness to all players of all teams, questionable recruiting practices throughout the commonwealth must end. Having a mailing address within a school boundary is too easy to fake. The coaches know, the kids know and it is flat out wrong. How about this proposal: If you actually move, along with your furniture, your dog and your parental units before August 1, you can play. If you move after August 1, you sit out the season. Will this happen? No. Too many parents school shop, even county shop for varied reasons, many of which have nothing to do with athletics. If you can pay for the documentation, you are registered. Sad but true.

The VHSL is only a foundation which helps organize high school sports. They have ZERO enforcement ability, period! Any disciplinary actions are up to the school boards & principals. I get tired of writing this, but a formal complaint has to document the accusation of a student living out of the district without properly relocating. This information has to be from an objective, third party as verifiable, like a private investigator woul provide. The VHSL DOES NOT investigate or discipline anyone or any school.

So, the only way that a school will proceed is if it's forced to deny or investigate it's own problems. The school board can decide to pay for an investigation but without hard evidence, it won't happen.

Come with documented information or just shut up. That's the message and it's universal around the country. Deal with it!

I understand and agree with what you’re saying. However VHSL is very powerful in organizing and aligning the divisions. They have the power to maximize profits at the gate. They also assess penalties against teams for not participating in rules clinics. Are there high school coaches associations that can begin to self govern? Do they even want to?

I think honest sb dad is most likely a dishonest lb mom. There has been plenty of districts hoping done at Lake Braddock. How many wins do you think Lamont Atkins was worth. He lived across the street from west springfield. Hurley lived in Woodson and they got the QB from west P.O. a few years ago. Hell, they poach d the entire Woodson coaching staff last April. Stop crying and win on the field. 70-3 is an old school ass kicking, the oaching staff and the senior leadership can not let that happen.

There is a difference in recruiting and parents moving for better opportunities for their kids. I've been told the Kim kid from Westfield used to live in Fairfax, then after a year or two playing for SYA, his parents moved so he could play at Westfield. Is there anything wrong with that? No.The Fairfax program was/is atrocious, why should the kid be stuck playing there if he/his parents have options.

There were a number of parents over the years who have moved or transferred the right way so their kid wouldn't be stuck playing for a crappy team. A few years back a kid transferred from Robinson to LB because he was receiver and Robo refused to pass. Kid's parents sold a nice house and moved into a crappy townhouse, but their son ended up getting a ride to Penn. Should the kid have been punished because Robinson still plays in the 1980's? Of course not.

The VHSL has rules in place, which are fairly easily enforceable, if just comes down to the schools willingness to report each other.

I would like to see top PWCO teams play Stone Bridge, Broad Run & Tusky. You have two counties with equally lax rules as far as transfers go and both heavily recruit and poach players of neighboring schools.

Size wise, Woodbridge vs SB would be a dream match up.

Freedom W vs Broad Run

Battlefield or Patriot vs Tusky.

I don't think anyone begrudges parents moving a middle school kid into a high school boundary of their choice. But that's not the same thing as a transfer or an in-season transfer of a kid who is already playing or has played for a high school.

Prediction: Oakton will be the first FCPS school to not field a football team next season.

They are on their way to 0-10. Kids in that community will pack it in and not come out next season.

They ran out a solid Coach and now they will pay the price. Principals and DSAs should pay attention because if can happen at Oakton it can happen at lot of places. If you’ve got a good coach you better hang on to them. There aren’t many good ones applying for these jobs anymore. Lots of hours and in a lot of schools no one taking care of the coach.

Rowley and his fatsss assistant Guff lied to the Oakton kids and bailed on them. Bullshit he got "ran out" at Oakton. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, or your just posting these lies to make it seem like Rowley was the good guy. Because he wasn't. Rowley spit in the faces of all the Oakton kids and told them that he was leaving Oakton to "spend more time with his family." Bullshit, he just ditched them and left to coach at a inferior program and school (sorry, there's a reason why is costs more to live in Oakton) who just won their first game since Obama was in office. Rowley RAN Oakton to the GROUND because of his inept coaching and general laziness with the football program. He made no push to get kids in the weight room and created OOC schedules that he knew Oakton couldn't compete with. He failed to keep good players in the program (see; Oakton Lacrosse talent) and bailed on the kids. ROWLEY BAILED ON HIS OWN PLAYERS. This guy is a complete snake oil salesman and hopefully he enjoys to continue to lose games like he did at Oakton. Not even worth mentioning some of the shit this guy has done...

You are clearly an Oakton parent who is bitter about their sons playing time under Rowley. Why don't you sign up and coach since you think it is so easy to lead a program of kids who think they are entitled to everything. Lacrosse and football are two totally different sports. Oakton has become the school for the country club sports

Lacrosse and football both require physicality, strength and speed. Many schools best Lax players also play football or vice-versa. Having some of Oakton's D1 Lax talent certainly would've helped them...

Braddock probably scheduled that game themselves. In the last scheduling cycle Robinson, Westfield, and Madison all played Stonebridge also. I also believe they all want at least one game. Stonebridge is good, but they are not some juggernaut that Fairfax schools cannot compete with. Lake Braddock appeared afraid the last two years.

The kid who transferred from Robinson to LB went to Penn State not Penn.

Face it, LB in many ways has taken several steps back from 5 years ago and will probably never see the glory days of years' past. The demographics have changed to Hispanic and southeast Asian descent kids which are of smaller in stature in general, their interest is in soccer rather than football and the athletic program in general does not have the backing of its administration. In addition, the liberal residents of the school district are concerned about concussions in football when in reality the incidence of the number of concussions is greater in soccer than in football. However, severe concussions may be another story. Good luck in the future, however, the football program was in much better hands under Polythress.

I am an Oakton dad who has been involved for a number of years with the football program. This is a tough year, but no one blames the current staff. They inherited very little by way of experience and talent, and what talent that was underclassmen last year transferred. Most of the varsity players are juniors and sophs - virtually all of whom are undersized.

I have the utmost respect for Coach Rowley and his staff, but it became increasingly clear that his system and style were no longer working with the team. First, and this point has been made before here, the demographics at Oakton are not what they once were. Gone are the former Redskins' sons and three sport athletes from the Fox Mill area that played football. Many of the kids who play football now at Oakton are one sport athletes; with a few exceptions, the lax, baseball and basketball players do not play football. WHile the Rowley staff constantly reminded the players of the glory years of the mid-2000s, the fact is those athletes left the program years ago, and never returned. While the football program has had some good individual players here and there, the 2012 team which went to the state semis was their last bona fide good team.

And the 2012 team is interesting because that was the truly last team that had players that played under Joe Thompson (the head coach before Rowley). But for that 2012 team (with 6-7 kids that went on to play Division I), Rowley never won a playoff game - despite routinely telling the kids how great a coach he and staff were. Rowley was arrogant. He had a system, and rarely deviated from that system - which may explain why Oakton played some great teams close for two quarters, and then at half time, the other team would make adjustments, Rowley would not, and Oakton would get blown out in the second half.

His attitude affected many. Many families and kids that were heavily involved in sports at Oakton wanted nothing to do with his program. The JV and freshmen programs were afterthoughts. Despite paying lip service to wanting to develop kids that went through the program, Rowley never followed through. Numerous kids on the freshmen teams never saw the field. Why? If the whole point is to develop kids, and make them want to keep playing, what is the point of playing 28 kids on a freshmen team, and never playing the other 35? That was the experience year after year.

Many parents also felt that Rowley and his Staff got tired - esp as their great players graduated, and they were left with kids who were not as fast or as big as the kids from years before. Coaching the former principal's son also did not help. While the young man was a good kid, and is currently playing at Navy, it was no secret to anyone involved in the program that those teams were playing to an audience of one. I suspect Rowley would have left earlier but for seeing it through until the day when the principal and his son left (incidentally in the same year).

I will admit the parents at Oakton are tough - but so are the parents at other schools. Rowley and his Staff left an empty shell of a program. They knew it, the parents knew it, and sadly, the kids knew it.

We are now left with a program with a few seniors, mostly juniors and sophs, who are playing hard, and they are getting their brains beaten in. It will be a long road back. Let's face it, it's a lot easier to be a third string safety at Westfield, or the third string slot receiver at Stone Bridge, than to be sophomore starter for a progam that will be lucky to win one game this year - if that.

The new coaches this year at Oakton are far more positive with the boys than the Rowley regime ever was. Check out the now disabled former Oakton football twitter feed: https://twitter.com/oaktonfootball?lang=en. This was an account run by John Glufling. Read the messages that he would retweet about pushy parents and whiny kids. He did this while he was a coach in the program.

This is high school ball with kids who are 14-18; not scholarship athletes between 18-23.

Chantilly parents, don't get too close.

I’d much rather play with Oakton and enjoy a good game of ball out with the family Friday night than watch the ineligible players pimped out to Stonebridge in the craziness of high school transfer charades stomp hard working boys. Coaches need to take a step back and look at what they’re doing to the world of football when winning at all costs becomes the only goal.

LB is about 2800 and SB about 1700 but who is counting? Anyway, who has the advantage when one program has 150 kids going out for football and the other has 100? There are far more kids in the Stone Bridge program than at Lake Braddock.

Anyway, the demographic changes that Oakton and Lake Braddock are experiencing - that's already happened at Westfield and Centreville. A few years ago.

Rowley dedicated 21 years to the Oakton football. A hell of a lot more than you whoever you are. If he was burned out then he did the right thing to step aside.

There reason why people post negativity and trash on sites like this becuase it’s all anonymous. There are a lot more lies than truths in these posts. There are always multiple sides to every story. I’m not a Jason Rowley fan, but he was successful at Oakton for a long time and won some big games. As the demographics changed and athletes changed the program changed. There was less and less support for the football program. You can ask around to certain people and find out details. Some families hated the staff becuase their kids didn’t play or they felt disrespected. Some families loved the staff and were upset they left. That always happens. Coaches are not paid enough to be dragged through the mud on a bs site like this. Just like kids names shouldnt be either. These guys aren’t Steve Spurrier, they are math teachers. Do people care that a drunk parent tries to fight Jason Rowley at half time of a game? Or the fact that he continually had no support form the miserable ADSA Pat Full. How about why longtime assistant JJ Herman was not given an opportunity to become HC. THe admin staff wanted the entire staff out because they felt they could do better. Over the years multiple players played college football. Multiple kids played other sports. Someone that brought up the lacrosse program would know that those players didn’t want to mess up scholarships due to injury and summer league. Lacrosse HC Jake Bullock was on the football staff for years until he became the HC of the lacrosse program. He supported football and multiple sport athletes. One of the best players on the lacrosse team who’s father is a well known coach supported the football program and the staff. But there will always be other who felt that the staff wasn’t good enough and wasn’t doing right for their particular child. There were team parents in it for themselves and tried to hide certain things from the staff to keep players eligible while they hosted drinking parties at their homes. And there were coaches who left to go other places year after year. Football is a dying sport. I’m sure there are Chantilly parents who are happy that Rowley is there and there are Oakton families who are happy/sad he left.

If the new Oakton staff is far more positive then why did they tell the entire senior class they were worthless and they were moving on to younger players? A few seniors and the coaches kid remain playing while other athletes now sit and watch who could help the team. They are playing young to prepare for the future. If they even stick around that long. Rumor has it the coach is already planning on moving to coach with his brother next season.

Demographic change is such a stupid thing to bitch about. As an earlier poster mentioned, Centreville and Westfield already went through it. Westfield has about 700 kids less than they did at their peak. You read that right. They had about 3300 in 2007 and about 2600 now. That along with the demographic change should've killed them but they are thriving right now. Oakton parents often mention the redistricting but always fail to mention how Westfield lost kids to South Lakes in the same redistricting! Stop making excuses!

"If the new Oakton staff is far more positive then why did they tell the entire senior class they were worthless and they were moving on to younger players? A few seniors and the coaches kid remain playing while other athletes now sit and watch who could help the team. They are playing young to prepare for the future. If they even stick around that long. Rumor has it the coach is already planning on moving to coach with his brother next season."

Well, how good are the seniors? Are they ALL better than the underclassman? With one exception, the seniors on the interior lines have struggled mightily.

That said, I applaud them for sticking it out. Many of the classmates cut and ran.

"Demographic change is such a stupid thing to bitch about. Stop making excuses!"

You miss the point. Oakton's demographics are now very skewed in a way that does not bode well for football participation. The student body either trends upper middle class to affluent (where many kids in recent years have opted out of football), or it trends lower middle class and below (where many kids who live near the school are not members of ethnic groups that gravitate toward football). While I am sure Centreville and Westfield have undergone such changes, I can assure you that at Oakton, these changes have been more stark. The latter schools still have a critical mass of kids (based on socioeconomic and demographic affiliation) that want to play football. Oakton does not. In a perverse way, it's why Oakton tends to outperform in those sports that require families to spend $$$ (or the country club sports as some on this board have described them), their demographics support it - e.g. tennis, swim/dive, golf, lax, etc. Westfield and Centreville, while fielding teams in those sports are generally not as strong as Oakton's.

This is what VHSL should do.

https://www.pennlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2018/07/piaa_transfer_rules_and_compet.html

any students who transfer after playing a sport in their 10th grade year shall not be eligible to participate in the ensuing PIAA tournament in that sport. The student, if otherwise eligible, may participate in that sport only during the regular season.

http://highschoolsports.pennlive.com/news/article/-8992135021304805384/what-is-piaas-competition-classification-formula-and-is-a-super-class-in-football-basketball-next/

Should a school accumulate 6 points or greater and accept athletic transfers, according to a fixed ratio (below), the school would move up 1 class in that sport for the following cycle.

I don't disagree with much of this. The drunk parent incident you describe was a disgrace. It was shameful.

No one questions Rowley's and the former staff's dedication to the program. They just got tired, and were slow to adapt to the inevitable changes that are taking over the sport whether we care to admit or not. In an age where CTE and competing sports are making football less of an attractive option for high school participation, the coaches need to be creative in persuading kids to come out for football. It's no longer true that you can post a few flyers in the junior high schools, or send a few emails, and expect 75 kids to show up for freshmen football. The numbers are shrinking - both at the youth and the high school level. While Rowley knew that, it was not clear what exactly he or his staff did to encourage kids to come out. Talking about the 2005 state title can only get you so far.

Oakton's glory years ended a decade ago when they lost the state semi at home to Oscar Smith. The 2012 regional title was a miracle playoff run. They're a historically ordinary program that had a good run and came back to earth. No need to overanalyze it.

Robinson had their run in the late 90's and early 00's. Chantilly from 2006-2012, and Lake Braddock from 2009-2016. Those runs also came to an end. Madison (did they suddenly get better demographics?) is having their run now and that too will end.

1. Robinson (-28) @ Annandale.

- Robinson won and covered.

2. Centreville (-10) @ South County.
- Game of the week in my opinion. The Wildcats look like the real deal and they have a chance to further prove it this week.

- Centreville won 26-14 and covered. They look solid..

3. Chantilly @ Herndon (-6)
- This one could go either way. Will Chantilly win or lose their 16th straight?

- Chantilly wins 28-21. Congrats Chargers!!

4. Lee @ Fairfax (-10)
- Another one that could go either way. I think the coaching at Fairfax is better and the home field advantage combined will be the difference.

- Fairfax won and covered.

5. Mount Vernon (-24) @ Falls Church.

- Mount Vernon won and covered. 66-31.

6. Lake Braddock @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- Spread could've been higher. Have fun in Ashburn boys..

- Stone Bridge won 70-3. Spread should've been higher. WOW.

7. Woodson (-7) @ Langley
- Could also go either way.

- I couldn't find a score for this one... Anyone know?

8. West Potomac @ Madison (-17)

- Madison won and covered.

9. Oakton @ South Lakes (-10)
- Will Oakton get their first points this week?

- No, Oakton didn't get their first points. They lost 60-0. What the hell is going on over there?

10. Tuscarora (-18) @ T.C. Williams

- Tuscarora won 30-7 and covered.

11. Wakefield @ Yorktown (-7)
- I wanted to go with Wakefield, but I have never seen them beat Yorktown.

- Yorktown blew them out 48-0. 26 in a row for Yorktown? (I believe that was the number in an earlier post.

12. West Springfield (-10) @ Washington-Lee

- WS won 28-21, but did not cover.

It will be interesting to see how VHSL handles the weather with the hurricane projected to come through. I remember in 2009 one of my boys had to play in a downpour (it was 35 degrees) and they played the entire game. No lightning, no problem I guess. We'll see...

1. Centreville (-28) @ Stonewall Jackson
- Wildcats keep rolling.

2. Chantilly @ West Potomac (-17)

3. Edison (-6) @ McLean

4. Dominion @ South Lakes (-10)
- Enjoy the wins while you can SL.

5. Fairfax @ Hayfield (-21)
- 2 coaches that know each other very well. The talent at Hayfield is just superior.

6. Bell (DC) (-7) @ Falls Church
- Taking the DC school!

7. Langley @ Potomac Falls (-17)

8. Marshall (-6) @ Herndon
- Could go either way..

9. Stuart (-10) @ Lee
- The Battle of the Confederate Generals!

10. Stone Bridge (-18) @ Madison
- Game of the week. Good test to see where Madison stands.

11. Stonewall Jackson @ Westfield (-21)

12. T.C. Williams @ Robinson (-24)
- Rams roll on Homecoming. They always find a way to beat TC bad.

13. Washington-Lee @ Mount Vernon (-21)
- MV plays a very weak out of conference schedule, district play might be a rude awakening for them.

14. Eastern (DC) @ Wakefield (-7)
I Don't know anything about Eastern but Wakefield beat them in Arlington last year, so why can't they do it again?

15. Yorktown @ Woodson (-7)
- Should be a good one.

Took a beating last week with some of my picks but still not as bad abeat down like Oakton or Lake Braddock took. Geez what was up with those guys.

I am not picking against Wildcats from here on out (until Madison comes along)

Don’t expect Chargers to put together a win streak.

Edison by -10

SL playing 4A team, last year they won big, this year I’m going for the upset

FHS 2 wins against McLean and Lee both by 27-0, HHS is not MHS or LHS

What happened to Jags? They look horrible right now. Feed Marshall all day.

Herndon -7.

Stuart -10

Stone Bridge is the big bully of NOVA football. Madison will not be able to slow down Bulldogs. SB by whatever they want, too big, too fast.

> 11. Stonewall Jackson @ Westfield (-21)
Last year WHS got off to slow start coming off bye week, can they avoid that this year?

RoBO but not sure about the spread. -17

> 13. Washington-Lee @ Mount Vernon (-21)

Majors by -24

Eastern -14

Stone Bridge is loaded every damn year. I would love to see Thompson schedule a WCAC team like Centreville did a couple years back. I remember the game being on ESPN2. Respect to Coach Haddock for scheduling a team, knowing they would get the hell smacked out of them & benefit from it. They won the state that year. Has Stone Bridge ever won the big one?

Completely agree, Thompson has gotten his recruiting to the point that NOVA kids don’t herd to go to the WCAC to play to get college exposure. U think Gonzaga, Good Counsel even DeMatha but St John’s is playing at another level and will be the top ranked hs team in the nation when this season is over.

The problem with Stone Bridge is their coaching is mediocre. Literally anyone can win with the players they have every year. But look at their record against Top 1000 ranked teams: 8-16 (CalPreps).

Even against Lake Braddock on Saturday coaching sucked. Amongst other things they went for it on 4-10 on their own 30-something. Run up the middle for no gain. Probably their only no gain play of the entire day.

Actually they lost the state that year to a heavily recruited Ocean Lakes team. Centreville was coming off an undefeated season and a state title which is why that was a televised game. They lost the Gonzaga game, mainly because Taylor Boose didn't play, then again in triple overtime to Westfield. Centreville eventually hosted the 6A North title game against Westfield then went on to play Ocean Lakes. If I remember correctly the Wildcats lost in overtime of the state title game. The following season is when the Ocean Lakes coach was suspended the first few games due to recruiting, he then was caught again, while on suspension!

Boose got injured during the game but their best player, AJ Turner, hurt his wrist over the summer and missed the first nine games. Returned for the final regular season game vs. Robinson and carried the ball 5 times and scored 4 TD’s. Boose sprained a knee during the playoffs and missed the championship game against “cheating” Ocean Lakes.

Hey guff get off this thread and work on your weight (safe your life maybe) and your own losing squad. Jason ran the program in the ground. Numbers dropped every year because of you all. He inherited a strong program from the early days and every year got worse! You bent over to the loudest parents and now that’s this awful culture now left for any coach to deal with.
