You are so wrong. Westfield fans in my experience showed and show far more class than the Centreville fans.

Ignore the childish squabbling and taunts.

This was yet another great game and Westfield fought hard to the very end and they should be proud of an outstanding season. Centreville simply had the superstar players and they made the plays necessary to win the game. For Westfield to take the defending State Champs - with 15 returning starters - to the brink is nothing to be ashamed of.

Congratulations to Centreville and good luck at the finals!

Yep. It will be interesting next year when Centreville isn't returning their stars.

Of course the stars leave next year along with the stars of Westfield and the other teams. Lake Braddock seems to have the most coming back.

But here is the point. During the last four years Centreville has been the class of the North. I suspect they will be very competitive going forward and will win their share, but not nearly as good as last two years. But do you think ANYONE will be as good going forward as Cville the last two years.....don't think so.

Really? Were we at the same game? Haddock's coaching was a nightmare. He tried to outthink Westfield and just looked silly with his play calling. In the first half CVille had to call at least one timeout and almost another as the CVille QB was confused on his play calling.

Westfield's defense did a great job as they only let up 2 offensive TD's but CVille did what they had to and Tyler Love came up HUUUUGGE!!

I agree with a previous comment, Tyler Love maybe player of the game. What a difference it is with him back. AJ certainly their best player but still was huge for Love to come back.

And...what a different without Boose still. CV could not run inside. WF plays great D, but missing Boose really evens things up.

I thought the PI call was a joke, but I was on CV side so who knows.

Scoville very impressive. Scanlon too.

As far as poor fans...that argument will never end. But if you heard the CV announcer remind the fans over and over about not going on the field after the game, I can't help feel that was in direct response to the classless WF students who stormed the CV field after they beat CV in OT a couple years ago.

Didn't realize that wasn't Scoville at QB at the end. Maybe they switched to a QB with a better arm to go for a Hail Mary? There were some questionable WF injuries that stopped the clock in the last two minutes, the player claiming to be injured has to sit out a play I believe. But I don't think that was Scoville.

Yes CV has "superstar" players, Turner and Boose in particular. But Boose didn't play. WF clearly was better at QB, WR, and defensive line. RB's Turner and Gray probably pretty even.

Ocean Lakes certainly the favorite next week. But so was Oscar Smith last year.

The only injury was to Gray and that was obviously legit. The refs had a long discussion and then came over and told Simmons they had to take Scoville out. Not being an expert on HS football rules I'm sure it was some arcane ruling.

I have to disagree - Tutt a better WR than anyone on Westfield. That jump ball catch on 3rd and long pretty much sealed the win for Centreville. I'd rate that pretty close to the play of the day.

All in all it was a great team win. Btw, was that Nickens-Yzer at the DB position? What position cant he play? He doesn't get a lot of attention but he quietly does his thing.

Scoville lost his helmet and had to sit out one play. That is why #15 was in for last play

Fuck Westfield!

They talk so much shit and lose every time it matters! I called this from the beginning of the year and here we are. Centreville going to States again while Westfield turns their shit in. All you had to do was see the way Simmons handled the last minute of the game to realize how stupid this guy is. 30 something seconds to go Scoville gets his helmet knocked off, so he has to come out for a play, instead of calling his last timeout he lets the clock run down to 13 seconds AND THEN CALLS A TIMEOUT. WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT!

Say what you want about Simmons. Yes, maybe the guy made a questionable decision or two, but he coached the whole year while battling and undergoing treatment for cancer. He never missed a game or practice and anyone who has seen him knows how sick he has been. Cut the guy a break. He rolls a new team (hardly ever any D1 talent) every year and wins 12 games and they play with class. In my opinion one of the main reasons they have lost these regional games (other than last year they have all been close) is they don't have the D1 kids who make a difference in these games. The 2011 year was probably the best overall team because they had a bunch of seniors who played together for awhile. Nobody expected 2012 when they had 20 new starters and a QB who played tight end the year before. In 13 and 14 they were beat by a team with superior elite talent. My point, Simmons and the coaching staff get the most out of their talent. I am disappointed for them but good luck to Centreville.

Looks like we have a Westfield fan that has CVille Derangement Syndrome....

Symptoms include:

(1) Inability now to walk around with snobbish nose in the air like mid 2000s when the going was good and entitlement set in
(2) Sudden loss of mental capacity to understand difference between win in October and win in December
(3) Due to the problems coping, said patient desperately clings to the I Believe Chant at the start of every game with other sufferers of the malady

Recommendation - make a doctors appt next Saturday afternoon to get checked out as your time is free then

Centreville's demographics are like the eastern Fairfax County's demographics, but the schools they compete against in the Concorde don't have the same demographics.

Also, Centreville is the smallest or maybe second-smallest school in the Concordem aka Conference 5. No secret that Westfield is the largest school and thus the largest pool to draw from.

Incorrect. They are trending that way but not nearly there yet. And they are not the only Concorde District school with non-football-friendly demographics. Last years numbers for your review:

% White
Robinson 59%
Oakton 58%
Chantilly 48%
Westfield 43%
Herndon 42%
Centreville 40%

% Asian
Centreville 31%
Chantilly 27%
Oakton 23%
Westfield 21%
Robinson 16%
Herndon 12%

% Hispanic
Herndon 32%
Westfield 18%
Centreville 15%
Robinson 13%
Chantilly 13%
Oakton 4%

% Black
Westfield 11%
Herndon 8%
Centreville 8%
Chantilly 6%
Robinson 5%
Oakton 4%

Also, incorrect. I know it is hard to get out of the 2000s but this is 2014 and the boundary adjustments in 2009 changed things. Current 2014 enrollment:

Robinson 2790
Chantilly 2692
Westfield 2682
Centreville 2435
Herndon 2267
Oakton 2267

Thanks...interesting info. Yes I am still living in the Westfield-Glennon years when Westfield had 3000+ kids and was the largest high school in the state.

But yep CV is trending that direction. Interestingly, CV historically has better success with the girls sports than the boys.

Why did Scanlon transfer back to Westfield? And he's allowed to remain a Junior even though this is his 4th year of high school?

^^^ is this a fact? They will need him to keep the attach balanced. It will be interesting to see what happens. Last year it was a matter of how much Oscar Smith was going to win by. Centreville was clearly just a fast and better all over the board. Centreville has a chance to really make their make in VA highschool football. Back to back state champs will be something special...

Why don't you ask him? Something must be going on at PVI because a lot of players have left the basketball program.

I correctly had Centreville ranked as the #1 team all year. That was obvious so no kudos for sticking with them needed.

Personally I think Westfield out-performed their talent once again - can't believe folks are on here are knocking their coaching. I think the best coaching staff in 6A North. Showed dramatic improvement in play over the course of the season. They have won 47 games in the last four years with all of maybe 3 marginal D1 players over that time span.

I was suckered into picking SoCo over Battlefield - should have known better... SoCo fans will have to wait another season for their signature playoff win.

Lake Braddock had a very strong program for the second straight year. If Alexander hadn't gotten hurt probably would have made the Westfield game closer although I still think Westfield would have won the re-match.

After watching the Centreville-Patriot game - I can see that the most explosive playoff match would have been SoCo v. Patriot. That would have been a fun 67-64 game.

Don't know what is with the Simmons haters out there...I think almost every school in the County would be ecstatic to have Westfield's success the last 5 years. Hard enough taking over a program that had standards set so high, but he has continued that success with talent probably a little below what Verbanic had (3 future NFL players at his disposal), and a smaller student population to draw from. This year he is battling cancer. Give him a break, the last 30 seconds were probably chaotic. It's certainly not his fault they lost, that game could have gone either way.

WOULDA SHOULDA COULDA ...the theme line for Westfield the last 4 years!
The bottom line is all that talent and NO Championships! Best Coaching staff my ass.... Win meaningless Regular season games and then BLOW the Championship games... Give him a break the last 30 seconds were chaotic??? REALLY are you fucking serious.. Everyone in the stands knew what was going on and were laughing at the ineptitude of this so called Coaching Staff...

I beg to differ that regular season games are meaningless. That reflects badly on your comprehension of rivalry and powerpoint accumulation. Do you really think the kids and parents that went to 20 home games the last four years think going 19-1 at home is meaningless? A lot of highly entertaining and intensely exciting action.

No championships? I guess Westfield winning the Concorde District/Conference 5 championship in 2011, 2012 and 2014 (unquestionably the toughest conference in the state) didn't happen?

True - no regional or state championships - but I am not convinced they had all this talent that no one else had. Oakton in 2012 is really the game they should have won. 2011 and 2014 could have gone either way. 2013 they had no chance.

Now regarding clock management - yes, it was without a doubt a blunder to squander 17 seconds for no apparent reason and I did hear a lot folks going nuts about it. But if I were a betting man I'd say those 17 seconds would not have made a difference if given back. Bottom line: just like you wouldn't bench your star QB over 1 lousy interception, you shouldn't bench your coach over one game management miscue.

And lastly if I may... it's only kids and high school football.

Newgate Denizen is the consistent voice of reason on this thread. Always balanced and accurate comments. most of the others on here with the smart ass comments have likely never played the game. I am a Westfield fan but kudos to the Centreville players for getting the better of them. I will continue to enjoy the 12-1 seasons, eventually this coaching staff will break through. My kid played for them for 4 years and they are among the best, on and off the field. I will be cheering for the Concorde District to beat the Beach. Good luck.

If you are looking for rationality on a site like this you wont find it.....CVille has mostly good, reasonable people with its share of dicks as does Wfield, Oakton, any other. Always has been always will be. Heck most of the time one does not know if someone calling themselves a CVille Supporter or Westfield Fan is really that or just someone looking to get a rise out of people.

Peace Out

Turns out that all of us (myself included) who predicted a 5-5 record nailed it. What I didn't do so well is predict how they would fare in individual games. On the plus side of the ledger, they did much better this year in games against SJC, DeMatha and Good Counsel as compared to the year before. SJC turns out to be a bad comparison, because they ended up not making the playoffs. Good Counsel is also not a good comparison, because Good Counsel rested a lot of their starters against DJO, as they had the #1 seed wrapped up.

On the minus side, they had a much harder time with Ireton and Carroll than last year. Other minuses include barely beating Fork Union (who should have been handled easily), and PVI (Which has really declined in football) playing them closer than the final score would indicate (the last three TDs came in garbage time in the 4th quarter). The biggest minus was getting blown out by McNamara, which is a game that I expected DJO to win handily.

I understand that not all is happy at DJO. They expected playoffs this season, and arguably took a step back. I also understand that their OC was made out to be the scapegoat for this lack of performance, and is no longer with the coaching staff. I'm not sure it's justified; it wasn't his offense that gave up 52 points against McNamara.

I would say Centreville would be considered about the same size underdog this year as they were against Oscar Smith in 2013. I have no idea how this game will turn out.

I went to the game last year...Oscar Smith was ranked highly based on their name and the 4 juniors/seniors who were D1 caliber. The rest of the team was average.

This year looks like a different story. Not only does Ocean Lakes have 4 D1 (and high D1 schools) caliber players, but their running back is 240 lbs. Last week they used their sophomore 260 lb DT as a running back as well, all he did is have 4 TDs and over 100 yds. He even made a HS freshman all-america team last year (didn't know there was such a thing).

I think CV will have a tough time stopping them. These guys are big and fast, and more balanced than Oscar Smith was last year. Maybe more importantly, they have an experienced QB, where Oscar Smith had a freshman QB who perhaps wasn't ready for the big stage.

Hate to say it, unless Haddock finds a way to stop the run, this is looking like a three TD or more blowout win for OL. I hope it's not.

Somewhat agree with you. I think Gonzaga had more D1 players. We probably were not going to win that game but could have kept it closer. I thought we battled well.

We will have to play our A game and hope Ocean Lakes struggles. Not sure it would be a 3TD loss but also not sure we are good enough to win

I think with their DB's, our little passing game will really struggle.

Watch Friday Night Lights. Centreville will lose a heartbreaker when Turner is stopped on the 2 inch line going for the 2 point conversion to win. Westfield fans will rejoice.

Do you think Westfield fans should be voting for or against the Wildcats? My gut is telling me that they'll vote against their biggest rival to win. Call it sour grapes if you'd like. I call it human nature.

If Westfield roots against Centreville I would call it "always the bridesmaid never the bride" syndrome.

Westfield has defeated Centreville in 12 of the last 13 regular season games.

Westfield and Centreville both have 2 State Championships....Westfield has only been open 14 years while Centreville has been open 26 years.

AJ Turner throws a TD pass to Tutt. At the half: Centreville 10 - Ocean Lakes 7

Ocean Lakes - 17
Centreville - 10

11:45 left in the 4th.

Centreville is struggling to move the ball on offense and they are missing way too many tackles on defense. Interesting seeing Ocean Lakes go for it multiple times on 4th down in their own territory. Risky moves!

Centreville could not overcome their injuries in this game. Taylor Boose did not play and AJ Turner played on an obviously hobbled leg. He was limping badly and ineffective. But they came back from 14 down in the 4th quarter and tied it at 24 with a determined tackle-breaking 55 yard TD run by Nickens-Yzer and a stunning 80 yard TD strike to Charles Tutt. Ocean Lakes was a monster team no doubt but Centreville played great football and really out-coached OL. Once again the hype about Ocean Lakes/Oscar Smith being vastly better – just not so. If Turner and Boose were 100% I say Centreville wins that game.

I'm here to congratulate Centreville on a great game. My ocean lakes beat you but I gotta tell you, we were stunned. Especially that #4 on centreville. He's got heart and definitely left it all on the field. I haven't seen any team hit our players the way he hit ours. And he also played hurt so I don't want to hear about Centreville winning if their star players weren't injured. When you guys were down he took over on offense and defense. He was definitely the MVP on your team. Anyway, good luck next year!

#4 was limping and he scored. Don't want to hear AJ was hurt. Gotta step up on the big stage regardless. Nickens-yzer showed that he could. Nevertheless good game and good season Centreville.

Mr. Disappointed I am sure in your own life you have always come through on the biggest stage right (probably in your basement all alone)? This team faced real bad injuries throughout they season and clearly AJ T was not himself today and T Boose could not play. They stuck it out and got into OT at the state finals against quality competition. A year after state championship and 15-0. All of this area except maybe you, you asswipe, are proud of this team.

Go Wildcats!

What, you want me to say I'm happy they lost? Of course I'm disappointed. They had many opportunities to win this game.

Did not like Mr Disappointed how you called out AJ Turner. Of course he was not at his best tonite but still 82 yards and that young man has been super man the last few years. Incredible player, feel good about his body of work and that of the team.

If I came across that way let me apologize. AJ Turner is a hell of a player. To clarify, I was responding to the post that said AJ Turner was hobbling. Regardless of him hobbling Centreville had many opportunities to win this game. AJ Turner is a great player and I cant wait to see him play on Saturdays. I was simply saying lets not make players being hurt an excuse for being in effective. It happens and you gotta deal with it.

Yes A.J. decommitted from South Carolina. I hear Ohio State is in the mix. Strange the press hasn't picked this up.
