Hylton deserves to mentioned but they are in 6A South so that is why I did not include.

41-0 at the half.
Second half, the second string won 7-0.
Wound up with a running mercy rule clock.

Centreville is just that good. They are way ahead of any NOVA team last year and this year.

Refer to my comments of a few weeks ago:

There is no top contender. Only top "pretenders."

Westfield, Robinson, Lake Braddock, South County, Patriot, Battlefield. Those are the top six behind Centreville in 6A North (in no particular order).

But I don't think any of them has a chance to come within 3 TD's of Centreville this year.

Cville is good, but there score against tilly honestly came from how bad tilly was. It was 41-0 at halftime. If the game turned out to be 82-0 (which it could have been easily) than I think everyone would be aware of how bad chantilly is this year. A wing T offense ain't pumpin out 82 in a game or 41 in a half against a team that actually wants to tackle and try a downfield passing play. Also good for cville is the return of AJ turner. Takes EVEN MORE pressure off the Ferrick kid, who threw 2 ints in the first half. He'll probably never have to throw now that AJ is back!

About the CV long throws and interceptions - as said before, CV was scoring almost at will and didn't need to throw at all. Wrt passing, especially long passes, I got the impression that they were using the Chantilly game for passing practice. Nothing more.

Simonds is safe! He's done a good job at Fairfax. They lost a lot last year so he's in a rebuilding phase.

I agree that Both Randolph & Wells are on the hot seat!

Trey Taylor is safe. SL lost a lot last year so he needs to build that program back up.

I think Lalli from Chantilly should be added to the list of Hot Seat candidates as well!

I agree that Simonds is safe. Fairfax is rebuilding this year. There is some talent in the sophomore and freshman classes there, so they should be fine over the next couple of years. This week's game against Langley is going to be important for them (and for Langley)

Cliftonboy,

This is not your normal wing T offense. Last year they score nearly 50 points in every first half, and would have beat teams by 100 if they starters stayed on the gas. No one came within 3 or 4 tds last year. Have you ever heard of that? Centreville returned a core group of seniors (3rd year starters) that all are going to play d1 football. All of this is happening without the Virginia player of the year, AJ turner. When he comes back, watch out. They can probably win a state title without him and are that loaded and deep. This is a rare class to come thru a pulbic school.

I got to say after seeing a couple of Centreville games this year I think last years team is better. Don't get me wrong I still think this years team is powerful and will play for the State Championship, I just think at a couple of key positions they were stronger last year. The Gonzaga game was the first time I thought that and then seeing the West Springfield game confirmed it. Last years team would have destroyed that West Springfield team.

Chad Wiggins teamed with Tyler Love made the Centreville Defense a stronger unit than this years team. Josh Smith anchoring the Offensive Line made that unit stronger and Scott Walter at Quarterback allowed the Offense to be much more diverse and dynamic. Centreville takes on Westfield in their first test since Gonzaga. We will see if they can step up play like State Champions and beat the Bulldogs in a great High School football game.

"Test?" Think again. If Westfield plays their perfect game they might not lose by 4 TDs. Their offense only put up 7 pts against Stone Bridge. I'd look for a Wildcat shutout.

I agree novafootball. It will interesting to compare once Turner is back on the field. He is the best player in every phase of the game for centreville. It will make the rest of the team THAT much better with him on the field. It might even it back out a little or show they are better than last years team. Still will be interesting to see who the leaders are if this team is tested. Walter played his best in those situations. Don't know if anyone in this area or from the south, will be able to give them a run for their money. So our questions may never be answered...

Coming from a NOVA football fan but not necessarily a Centreville fan....

Enjoy your week Westfield, good game, well played, but I would be not so bullish later and buy any tickets to Charlottesville just yet.

AJ Turner, best player in the state, will be back
Charles Tutt, in top ten players in state, will be healthy and full strength
Good wake up call for Centreville to open up their offense which is happening slowly but surely - note the two long passes to Tutt for TDs
Adjustments will be made on defense to keep a spy on Scoville
Talent will win out in the long run as typical in sports

I fully expect Centreville to represent the north in the state championship game again.

I AM a CVille fan. Congratulations to Westfield for pulling out an exciting game. Just par for the course for the rivalry games between these two teams over the last few years. However this will not change the trajectory once playoff time comes. I am confident (but not overconfident like it seems certain Westfield fans have now become) in the later outcomes.

Long-time Westfield fans are never over-confident. 7 Northern Region Final games (if you include last years 6A North final?) in 14 years. 2-5. If you count 3rd playoff round 3-4. It's impressive to get there that often but ya gotta keep in mind there are DIFFERENT teams lurking out there EVERY year with some special talent. Youthful exuberance is expected though...

FC lost to a good W-L squad. I think that's 8 or 9 straight losses to W-L over the years. And with the starting QB suspended because of a verbal scuffle following the W-L game, Wakefield had a good shot at a win. And in typical fashion FC couldn't hold on to the lead in the final minutes. Wakefield scored a game winning field goal. I heard the kicker is an Oklahoma transfer that learned how to kick two weeks ago.

FC is motivated and talented. I do believe the Jags can beat Hayfield. But focus and discipline are key.

Looks like half of Braddocks starters are injured and not playing the last few weeks. They have been winning without Alexander and Lee, and a few others that are injured. Looking at the roster, mostly sophs and juniors that are playing.
I am not sure what that means, they are either hoding it down for the starters to return or they will have a great team returning next year.

Ranking after Week 7:
Centreville #1
Westfield #2
Robinson #3
Lake Braddock #4
South County #5
Battlefield #6
Patriot #7

Not going by wins and losses - just who and how they have played. Centreville will be OK - especially when they get everyone healthy. Westfield very very impressive in that upset over Centreville. I probably have South County too low but they just haven't played anybody yet. Perfectly willing to rank them higher but they have to get a big win over a top team first.

Good rankings Rydell Road. Nice to see someone who is not going over the deep end thinking that CVille is now all of a sudden not right there near top. I think it is good that Westfield, Robinson, SOCO, etc. playing well - that will force CVille to keep its game sharp throughout the playoffs. Still expect them in Charlottesville when it is all over however. Ferrick getting better each game, depth showing up, and then you bring in AJ Turner in the next few weeks. Remember folks he is the best player hands down in the Northern Region and probably the state. He will have an impact on O, D, and Special Teams. Congrats to Westfield for their win but be careful what you wish for come playoff time. The loss last week will just kindle the fire even more for CVille.

I know Westfield wants to win the region, and it is not out of the question, but honestly a win like they had Friday night will be something that group of guys will remember forever. Regardless of outcome the rest of the way, I feel it made the season a success for the Bulldogs. They went against the ranked 1 team in the state and the Post and got the W. I don't think they can win twice, but will be pulling for them nonetheless.

As much as I don't like how low you put soco in these rankings, they seem fair. The only thing with these rankings is that the lb/soco winner will most likely get homefield advantage and the times that Westfield and cville have gone on the road they had very close games

Going on the road does not matter here. All of these teams, including Centreville and Westfield, travel very well especially during the playoffs. Any Northern Region Final would be like at a neutral site with big crowds from both schools. And if SOCO or Braddock or Robinson had to travel would expect the same from them at another team's field. It will come down to talent, concentration, coaching, and will power. I think CVille, Westfield, Robinson, Braddock, and SOCO all have a reasonable chance but believe with the experience last year, the impending return of AJ Turner, the jolt to the system of a loss midseason (so the coaches and players will have time to make adjustments before the playoffs instead of being surprised during the playoffs), and the chance to do something really cool (like going back to Charlottesville a second time in a row, CVille will ultimately win out. However should be a good playoff season.

For the SOCO fans, I think you are limited by the type of competition played during the year but the Braddock game will be a good test to see what the team has got this year.

Amazing to see how much Charles Tutt truly meant to Centreville. They looked like a completely different team once he went down. Westfield had no answer for him as a receiver and he was able to defend Scanlon pretty well (who later torched them). Great game by Westfield, those kids didn't quit when it look like it might get out of hand. Hopefully we get to see a rematch with both teams at full strength, they both represent the northern region very well. Still a lot of football left, if LB beats soco and westfield and centreville beat robinson, the powerpoints will get pretty interesting. I would guess battlefield would gain homefield throughout because of the recent games.

I have a feeling that Tutt, Turner, and all others on CVille will be primed and ready to go come playoff time!!!!

Then if Westfield, SOCO or someone else beats them, so be it as it will just be divine providence. Just want their best team on the field to defend the championship though and see how far the team can go again - which I think is all the way.

My understanding is that you get 26 pts for a 6A win and 24 for a 5A win with an additional 2 pts for wins by teams that you beat a 1 for teams that you lose to. If this is correct to power ratings could get really interesting. Here is where I have the top teams schedule win loss and 5A/6A teams considered.

Team with schedule W/L

Centreville 34-20 all 6A
Westfield 36-23 SB 5A
Lake Braddock 35-25. SB & Lee 5A
Robinson 29-30 Lee & Mt Vernon 5A
Battlefield/Patriot 29-34 Freedom & Potomac 5A
South County. 26-34 Lee & Mt Vernon

I think if Centreville and Westfield win out they will be the top two seeds even if SC is undefeated. Those two weak 5A opponents will really hurt SC & Rob. I see a coin flip for number 1 if this happens with a tiny tiny nod to Centreville. Upsets by opponents could end up deciding it. If either Centreville or Westfield lose it gets really jumbled.

Yorktown got two garbage TDs with Hayfield's backups in for homecoming. Last I checked, winning by double digits isn't barely winning. Falls Church better be ready as this Hayfield team is solid.

Falls Church is pissed right now. They will do whatever it takes to win, win, and win again, all the way into the playoffs. They play Hayfield on the home turf, so that's a huge advantage for FC, and Hayfield will lose by a TD.

I think playing an out of state school would give Centreville a slight disadvantage in the state rankings, which are calculated using VHSL schools.

That games does not count when calculating power points. That fact was announced before the season started (when the game was scheduled).

Centreville's power points are divided by 9. Since Gonzaga replaces TC Williams, who is struggling this year, it helps Centreville's rating whether they won or lost the Gonzaga game.

It also hurts all the teams that Centreville plays because Cville has one less win than they would have had which lowers the bonus points that each team gets from playing Centreville.

So actually, by playing Gonzaga, Centreville increased their average and lowered the average of every team they played.

Doesn't seem right.

"so it sounds like that sc/lb game on halloween will decide the number 1 seed in 6a north"

Could very well be if Centreville & Westfield both beat Robinson. Not a sure thing. Also, unexpected wins/losses from the non-common opponents could also have the same effect.

Enjoyed the posts by wildcatter and WildcatFAN...

Have to agree, CVHS is a much better team with AJ on the field. That long TD over the middle probably doesn't happen with AJ defending.

Yes AJ is a great player, but let's be real about this, he is not the best in Va. Josh Sweat is unbelieveable, #1 ranked in USA by ESPN, though he's injured now and out for the year.

Also, finally someone posted a video on YouTube with the last play of the CVHS-WF game. As we all heard, the ball crossed the plane and the 2-point conversion should have counted. Would have been overturned with instant replay. But that's ok, will give CVHS a little more fire next time they play WF, probably Dec 6th. It will be more fun for CVHS to win the Region final at Westfield anyway, just like 2011.

the only reason why Cville has been whipping kids is because the coaches are not catching on to their lineman's tendencies. looking at their film, their stances are horrible, and you can always tell where the ball is going by their splits, hand positioning, feet, and stance itself. Linebackers should catch up on it if they actually know the game and are trained well. That will cost them later in the playoffs, if you take away their lineman and know what they will do before they do it, then all you have to worry about is this "great RB", personally I do not see it, but who knows anything can happen.

I was there with a direct view, the ball crossed the plane before he was down. But to earlier posts who cares - this will just fuel the fire come playoffs. With that, AJ Turner and Charles Tutt at full strength, etc. enjoy the riches now Westfield, Robinson, SOCO, etc. As we are seeing in the baseball playoffs, regular season means nothing....I expect Centreville to win the North again and go to states....

The ref was also there with a direct view and said it didn't. Also, that picture must be photoshopped then because it is obvious he did not cross the goal line.

Wildcat fans, please just stop with "the ball definitely crossed the goal line" or "we'll beat them at home in the playoffs just like in 2011". It's all history, they lost to Westfield, face it.

The ball did not cross until "after" the player had hit the turf then extend his arms. The picture above was taken at the moment runner was ruled down, he then extended his arms to break the plain but was already ruled down. I don't care who thinks they saw what, the picture is proof, let's also not forget there side judge was right there, on the gosl line, a few feet away, clear sight of the play.

In regard to what happened in 2011, both of those teams were equally matched, with AJ Turner back Centreville is the stronger game. But even if he played you cannot dispute that Centreville's defense is not the beast it was last year. Wiggins sparked fear in opponents, there is nobody on this unit that does, it's nothing to be ashamed of, just the facts.

Goin into the post season Centreville will be the favored team to represent 6A North. That does not mean they are a lock, Westfield, Robinson, South County, a healthy Lake Braddock could just as easily win in a head to head match up. Once again, nothing to be ashamed of, there are some very good teams in this area loaded with some quality talent.

True, Centreville has more individual talent but one of the reasons Westfield won that game is because they played as a team and never gave up. The offensive coordinator also finally opened up they playbook and let Scoville air it out. This Westfield team has a solid defense, an explosive running game, a larger more physical o-line than last year, and solid special teams. The difference was they finally opened up the passing game and became a balanced offense.

Bottom line is nothing is written in stone, anything can and will happen, these are 15-18 year old kids. What is true is that Centreville might not be quite as good as last year becuase their defense is not as dominating. Please also don't think because they shut out West Potomac, West Springfield, and Chantilly that is an accomplishment, those teams are not Westfield, Robinson, SOCO, or LB.

I think we're in store for some really good football over the next 8 weeks, sit back and enjoy the ride.....

VTBoy,

Did you see the state championship game? Josh Sweat is the best prospect, not the best football player. Aj turner was by far the best player on that field last December. Josh Sweat has the potential to be a great football player, but he doesnt affect the game like a turner in high school.

Westfield fans,

You guys played your hearts out and deserved to win. Seeing it in person, I think Xavier was in, looking at the video's and pictures, he clearly wasn't. He bounced off the ground before his arm landed in the endzone. What a finish either way.

Hate to burst your bubbles though, if Tutt plays the second half, were probably talking about a 35-14 wildcat win. Losing Tutt changed the entire game, offense and defense. Westfield had no answer when you played reciever, and on defense he was able to control Scanlon (I think thats his name). Once he went out, Westfield exploited Centreville's secondary. If Tutt and Turner play, Westfield will not be able to throw on them. Scoville played a hell of a game, not taking any credit from him.

The only question now is, will centreville ever become fully healthy. They will have a tough task to win the region and probably cannot win the state title unless AJ Turner is at full strength.

And how good is Robinson, seems like the sleeper team that can really cause some problems for teams...
