I am also wodering who is going to get the Robinson job. I can't believe its taking this long. Robinson will be way behind the other schools if they don't get the weight room and offseason stuff started. Maybe its all happening behind the sceens and will be announced shortly.

Why all the hate on the Westfield coaching staff? As a non-WF parent, I think their staff is top notch, and their teams are always well prepared. Granted the size of their school helps their football team as they have a larger talent pool to draw from, but at the end of the day, they are a well-coached team.

Chris Haddock to Robinson
Rob Everette to West Springfield
Brian Day to Centreville

Mark it down.

I would believe Everett to west spring. No chance or haddock or day. Day is happy at Herndon. Haddock has a state title in his lap at c'ville.

The Robinson job is taking so long because the principal is retiring. New principal at Robinson will be banbury from Oakton.

Where do you even get this shit. Dr. Banbury isn't going anywhere. That guy loves Oakton and his son is going there next year. Please remove head from ass now. You think that they are going to fire someone and then leave a position open for someone else to fill it??? You should write for the Enquirer.

So who is leaving? If someone told you, this is an easy way to let us all know anonymously. I am more of the belief that you don't know shit. Westfield staff is very good and not going anywhere. I am sure there were some tough discussions after their second straight regional final loss. I don't see them being that dominate again for a while.

No chance Haddock leaves Cville even after everything that has gone down between him and the admin this year. I would say Mat Shannon (Westfield OC) to Robinson. I think he's inching for another head job after his Fairfax disaster. West Springfield is a mess and no chance Brian Daye back to Cville. They would never allow that. The Everette guy will stay right where hes at if hes smart. I think the D coordinator at Cville (nef?) has put in for the WS job.

Robinson is still in the weight room during the offseason. Assistants who work at the school are running their offseason conditioning programs right now.

The guy they want is Stan Sexton. Stan was let go from Phoebus a few months ago, but had unprecedented success with that team. The boosters want someone big. That is the reason this is taking so long. Stan has some reluctancies on moving his family, but is very interested in Robinson's history. They are looking outside the region for their next coach. The only guy they would hire from inside the region would be Haddock over at Centreville, but he's not leaving.

Sexton is a joke.

Stan ran the phoebus program like it was youth league. But a youth league with 20 Div. I players.

Having first hand accounts of his practices being just loose, unorganized, poorly coached freaks of nature. Robinson is going to go backwards if that is where they truly go.

All Pro formation/bit of qb option and a crazy simple defense to just let their kids out play you.

Phoebus has 1200 kids BUT kids can choose down there to go to Phoebus for their CULINARY class verses go to Bethel, Hapton...etc so while Pheobus has been on a crazy teare of state championships they were getting freaks hand over fist!

Sexton wasn't even the architect, it was Bill Dee who retired to college ball a few years back. Sexton was just hanging on to the tradition and it slowly has unraveled.

If a coach was to come from the South only David Bedwell would make any sense as he is a FCPS graduate and former player of the Legend Tom Verbanic. Though if you want a Verbanic deciple go with Brian Day who is doing a hell of a job with Herndon where no one else would try.

Robinson has one clear choice, Marc Matthie but I have a feeling they are leaning away from him.

Matthie is an ex Meyer player, ex college GA, ex college coach, ex DC under Haddock and is responsible for them making the State final. Centreville has fallen off since his stepping back and he is very ready for prime time.

I am not sure why Mukai would go hunting washed up sloppy beach coaching so I tend to disregard that as total rumor.

Marc Matthie (Currently Defensive Coordinator for Centreville) would be the PERFECT fit at Robinson. But obviously the fact that he is African American plays a part as to why they are reluctant to sign him. I mean there has never been a Black head coach in the history of the Concorde District. However I have heard many rumors of the Rams pursuing him.

And we all know what happened when the Rams started their first black QB since like 1974. Avyn Johnson Threw for a whopping 7 yards and rushed for -12 in the first game of the 2011-2012 season against the one and only Stone Bridge Bulldogs. Not to mention the Rams didn't get into the Red zone once and Only crossed the 50 yard line one time all game. Go figure. they only gave Joe Wilson the ball once! for a 15 yard gain. Silly Coach Taylor..

HAHA. You think Westfield has a large pool to draw from. Robinson has over 4,000+ Students. yet they still need Transfers like Joe Wilson from Annandale to help them out.

Not sure where you get your numbers from, Robinson only has 2,500+ in their HS. Westfield is just above that. These numbers do not include the special needs or ESOL students. Either way, with being one of the largest schools in the state, there should be no problem getting quality athletes in the school.

Robinson has ALOT of returning starters on Defense next season. 7 to be exact. A key player not returning will be star safety Turner Peterson but they should be fine there because John Wilson already had to take his spot a couple times this season and played exceptionally well. Another key player not returning is Defensive Tackle, Jake Shaffer. However Robinson has PLENTY of HUGE kids and I'm SURE they can find someone to fill that spot. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that they lost BOTH starting Cornerbacks Backs. The two kids taking those spots, DeMarcus Byrdsong and Marcus Denham aren't exactly as big as you would like your starting varsity corners to be. They both started on JV last year. Who know's? Maybe they AMAZINGLY quick. But we'll see I guess. Other than that they should be perfectly fine on the defensive side of the ball. They also have two Sophomore Line Backers, Nick Roth and Eric Siegel, that got PLENTY of Varsity playing time this year. So they already have the experience part down. This is a solid group of kids.

Notable Defensive Starters that are returning include: Jake Pinkston (DT)
Avyn Johnson (LB) Stephen Diggs (SS) and Darius Grady (DE/OLB)

We've also seen Joe Wilson get some time at Linebacker! He didn't play defense very often this year, but when he did, he played exceptionally well.

Also some are thinking about not coming back out next season because we got beat up so bad. Playing two games a week is just too much.

Westfield has many key returning skill players (WR, RB, TE, DB/LB). They will be good as always. They have a big question mark at QB, someone is going to have to step into those big shoes. They always seems to figure it out, just like they did this year.

Westfield is done. They are no where close to the level of talent they had the last 2 years, shit last 10 years. They had the talent and it was all set up for them to go to States, BUT they blew it against Oakton. That one loss will sting for a long time. They will not see the final 8 (old Regional Championships)for at least 2 more years.

Shields isn't going anywhere...

Shannon was at best an okay coach.. that was a good move by Simmons. He was Tom V. boy and wanted it to go down the way it did after he left. Simmons gave him a couple years and lost 2 regional championships to so so play calling. He was just plain lazy.

Interesting to see who they will bring in as their new OC

I find it highly disturbing that disgruntled parents/fans/etc use this site to assume, bash and spread ridiculous information. Regardless of true or not, why?! Does it make you feel better that your child is probably not a stellar athlete so it's always the coaches fault? Bashing them on this site does not give your child playing time.

If parents cared more to support, I guarentee coaches would be willing to put more time and effort into the programs. The time they have left that is. After working a full day and spending hours upon hours a day with your children.

A big thank you to all of the coaches who take time away from their families to coach your children (even with their nagging parents on the side).

To all the coaches mentioned on this site....GOD BLESS YOU for dealing with these parents!

Do you really think Westfield lost the Regional playoff due to play calling on offense? Really? Were you there? First of all the wind had a major impact on play calling for both teams with regards to the pass game. Westfield did not play its best, but to put it on play calling is ridiculous. How about the play calling at some of the other games....Lake Braddock (didnt have a clue on defense and Westfield made them look very bad), Oakton Game 1, etc., both Chantilly games....etc, etc.

Hard to tell why Westfield lost that game. I think they thought it was going to be a cake walk after Oakton escaped Centreville. Westfield was keyed for a rematch with Centreville and when it turned out to be Oakton they looked past them. Oakton played with nothing to lose, look at when they faked the punt deep in their own territory and picked up a key first down.

Westfield wins that game 9 out of 10 times; But that's why you play the game.

This is a great post! Even when a coach might not be technically the best, they devote countless hours, way beyond just practices and games. High school coaches are probably one of the best bargains parents can get. Very few parents could or would do what the job, except say for calling some plays from the stands. If a coach is abusive or unethical that's one thing but the for the most part they provide a great service.

I was at the game and if you watched Oakton, that game or any previous, the punt was always a run, pass, kick option. So I wouldn't call that a fake. I don't think westfield was better and looked past them either. Oakton was just better. Westfield would have lost to centreville too. It was and is just a down time in the Concorde district.

Nobody from Westfield looked past Oakton. Westfield was good, but not good enough to look past anyone despite their record. They are not coached that way either. It was a year when their were alot of good team and anyone could beat anyone (other than Herndon) on any given Friday night. Westfield managed to get through the roulette wheel during the season with some impressive victories, but Oakton outplayed them when it counted most. THese are 16 and 17 year old kids, shit happens. I just laugh when people on this board said Westfield "choked" "etc......nobody close to that team thought they could go 12-1 and they should feel good about the season they had overall.

Time to move on.....

I am sure you would like to forget and move on... UNFORTUNATELY that's not gonna happen. We will kick this around for a lot longer, until the new season starts. Westfield may not be coached that way, but as you put it, these are 16 and 17 year kids who when they see a team who they beat by 3 Touchdowns in the regular season upset a team they were expecting to play. I think they let up and allowed a less talented team to beat them. Oakton had no business winning that game, it was Westfields to take and for some reason they let up. I will leave it up to you all to tell me why. I think they got caught in a trap game and got trapped.

So the other games Oakton won in the playoffs were trap games too? Oakton shouldn't have won those games either? Oakton out gained westfield in the first game. They gave up 3 long scores on mistakes. It was a lot closer than the score, and westfield will admit that. Again- a weaker district led to parody.

Maybe you can tell me why Oakton, who must have been reading their own press about how good they were in the playoffs got blown off their homefield against LC Byrd. They must have got trapped. Westfield played Byrd even up in the pre-season, Oakton wasn't close.

Do you really want to go there? You want to mention the next game! The one Westfield couldn't get to? For the second year in a row. You are a gluton for punishment. Westfield will be down for years to come. Centreville is the team to beat. Oakton is also done. I congratulate Oakton on winning the region last year. But if you want to move forward it is all Centreville.

The Coaching Carousel has yet to end...

South county offensive coordinator
Westfield offensive coordinator
Robinson head coach
Edison defensive coordinator
West springfield head coach
Centreville defensive staff

Does anyone have a clue who's in the hunt for any of these jobs?

I've heard that a varsity rugby player from Chantilly is switching from marching band to football this year to be a defensive end. Goes by the name of Carter Webb, apparantly he is going to be a dominant force for the Chantilly football team.

Ken Kinkaid down at Thomas Jefferson is a great coach. When he came to tj 3 years ago they were 0-10 with no all district players, and one with honorable mention. Last year they only brought back 4 defensive starters and still had one of the best defenses in the liberty district. I know theyre not playing against the best teams in the region, but they seriously over achieved with the talent they had. Its a science and tech school that doesnt care about football and they still managed to win 6 games and make the playoffs. Give respect where respect is due.

Itll be interesting to see if they can maintain competitiveness next year while only returning 4 or 5 starters.

Falls Church won't be an easy game for TJ, or any National District team for that matter. They return almost all their starters on both sides of the ball, including several all-district performers at the skill positions.

No because both districts are not very good in comparison to the Concorde or even the Patriot District for that matter. The National district usually has Yorktown or Hayfield winning and Stone Bridge always wins the Liberty

Would Kinkaid want the Robinson job? Seems like he has established a good thing at TJ. If he wanted to step up to a better program, he could have done that at many other places in the last few years. I have heard some crazy rumours revolving around the Robinson job in the last few weeks. The one guy you have to know is beside himself is Coach Day from Herndon, if he held out 1 more year he might have been the front runner for the job.

For 5A North: The teams that in will be most of the national district teams (Except Hayfield, Wash-Lee and Yorktown), Stone Bridge, Thomas Jefferson, Marshall, Lee, Freedom, Potomac. The Northern 5a conference looks weak as hell than ever.

Coaching changes-

West Springfield-
Eric Henderson, Brian Day and Matt Shannon are the front runners

Robinson-
Inside guy and d coordinator from Centerville (also heard linebackers coach newl from Cville has had his 2nd interview (he would be the best there)
Pete bendorf was also in conversations.

Chantilly-
Coach L is bringing in a new QB coach and OC. Word is if Matt Shannon doesn't get the head job he will be there. They opened that spot for him.

Westfield-

still out of an OC but was seen at the ocean city coaching clinic with the Freedom OC Corey Hoopengardner. Doubt that move will happen though.

Oakton-

D coordinator position is still open for some reason according to the DSA which seems absolutely ridiculous. If this is the case there's major issues.

South County

Someone reported that the OC left but according to coach P he is still there.

That's all I got as of now. Will keep you posted wen news unfolds.

Whoever is getting the WS job is going to have to be talked into it big time. Biddi has trashed the program for several years. His firing was 2 years too late. The DSS at the school is a clown- he is a running joke among the athletes and the parents. The new coach will have a heck of a job convincing the players that Biddi chased away to come back. The only teams at WS that are any good are the ones that do not rely on the high school coaches- ie swimming, lacrosse, girls basketball. These are year round sports and would be good with whomever the DSS pulls out of his hat to coach them. It will be entertaining to see who is hired for football...

This has become pretty damn pathetic on Robinson's part!
The guy they want, Chris Haddock, is not leaving Centreville. They have two young and very capable coaches right in front of them in Matthie and Vossler. I really don't understand this thinking process! From what I'm hearing, some of the players are already talking transfer! Joe Wilson will likely end up with his old coach at South County and some of the other young talent might end up across the way in Lake Braddock.

Look, a district can only be so strong before it starts to wear itself out. For the Concorde to get back to producing state champs it needs one or two teams to lower their level so they don't slaughter each other before week 11. Robinson has put itself in this position so I say go with a first time/never been coordinator head coach and let the other teams get back to focusing on the real prize.

Wanted to get the Football board back on the front page as well as hear if anyone had a big game marked on the 2013 schedule.

Looks like Centreville will open the year aginst West Potomac on August 29 to start the season. This should be a good one with these 2 playoff teams from last year playing early. With the new classifications this could be a very meaningful game come playoff seeding time.

Any other games circled yet?

Well they won one with Glennon v2.0....and they are good every year, 24-2 the last two years....who wouldn't want to coach there? Lots of people on their ass for losing two Regional Championships and maybe rightly so....but I say 95% of the posters on this board would love to have a team like Westfield and 98% never, ever thought they would go 12-1 in the most recent year. Good program, good coaches and good kids.

Who ever counts Westfield in? They are always underdogs preseason then they do what they do! Those coaches over there know how to coach! I bet you that if you walk into a WestPo practice or a TC practice there will be 2x the amount of athletes Westfield has. Those guys just know what they're doing down there in Chantilly.

Westfield is done at least for next year. They got nothing unless they recruit well this offseason. Chantilly will beat Westfield next year! They will make the playoffs only because EVERYONE will make the playoffs under next years format, they maybe a visiting team, that's how bad they are. Coaches can only do so much! You got to have the horses and Westfields barn is empty.

Chantilly may be the surprise team of next year. With the transfers I hear they are getting they may play later than usual. Of course Centreville is the team to beat, at least on paper. They return more than anyone and their staff will Coach with anyone.

I don't get the Centreville staff can coach with anyone. Haddock sucks. He lost at fairfax and Chantilly and everywhere before. He was a JOKE at Fairfax. He got a lucky opportunity at centreville with a group of kids Gerry P started playing very young. The two guys worth their salt Neff and Matthie are on their way out. If Matthie doesn't get the Robinson job then both those guys may end up at a rival school. Both guys went to the box in the playoffs to escape Haddocks bs on the sideline. Everyone says he should win a state title in the next two years, I say he fs it up and walks away with nothing. Keep running that wing t and playing man coverage so teams from the beach can come in and rape you.

Really, what players are coming back? From what I remember anyone who was any good graduated. The O line is decimated, no QB, one returning RB & WR. One DB anybody else?

And 4 RB's , a tight end and WR who all saw significant time last year. Just like nobody saw 12-1, an all district QB, a dominant o-line, etc last year, they will re-tool again in 2013. Don't assume C'ville will win just because they look so good on paper.

Obviously you know nothing about westfield football. They have 3 returning starters on DL. Their whole secondary is back except for a corner. One linebacker returning.

Offensively, one word. DEVON BURNS. Best WR in the region. Tyler Thrasher-Walker the RB is coming back. 3 out of 5 linemen are coming back.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

As a former WHS football player, I was on the sideline the past two years and what I saw was this. Our kids looked straight slow out of the gate, and when they would be on defense, the D-line could not get off the ball, also they could not hit to save their lives.

I'm not bagging on my old team, but the regional championship teams of the past two years have not played well and have done the exact same thing, they ran the ball and they did not use their play makers on the outside. They became predictable and all Oakton and Centreville had to do was stop the run and the game was basically in hand.

For those of you who remember C-ville v. Westfield, C-ville was winning 27-10 before WHS started passing the ball and got the ball in the hands of their playmakers, they scored 14 points VERY quickly once they did that. So my hat goes off to Simmons for firing the inept Offensive Coordinator and Defensive Coordinator!
