Well, lo and behold, it's yet another terrific morning out here in the Sweet Spot that at least we, the fortunate few, are happy to be able to call home. It was a simply delightful 61 degrees outside when I got up, with nothing but sunny skies, light breezes, and the humidity steadily falling from an early reading of 80%. There won't be any rain today it says here, nor any temperatures above the low 80's. Just plain really nice weather all day long. We'll deal with it somehow. Obviously, another very pleasant walk out and beck to bring in the morning paper. Not much was heard from the cicadas, but there were still some crickets singing away, and of course, the usual squirrels and chipmunks scampering about. None of the big fellas or gals. Good chance we'll see them later on though.
Good chance as well that President Ding Dong will further indict himself in some serious way today, and if he's too busy with cheating at golf to accomplish it, surely his senior campaign staff can do it for him, such as by trying to mock Joe Biden for visiting the graves of his wife, daughter, and son after church yesterday. Perhaps they consider everyone who's dead to be a disregarded loser, not just our veterans.
In other news, HOF Lou Brock died yesterday at age 81. some 56 years after the Cubs cursed themselves by trading him to STL for the nearly finished Ernie Broglio. Wrong read of the tea leaves, there! More immediate problems than that arose for Patrick Corbin against the Braves yesterday though, as his very first pitch came screaming back at him, striking on the meat part of his thigh at 115+ MPH. Pollyannaish sycophants Bob & FP tried to make light of the matter, but the damage seemed evident in what was a short and subpar outing for the lefty. And the bullpen came in behind him to open the floodgates in what became a runaway 10-3 victory for the wrong team. It seems that sometimes bumpy roads in fact lead to the City Dump, as with a 14-25 record (worse than last year's 19-31 start), the Nats are four full games behind the Mets in what seems to be a flagging effort to escape the NL East basement. But it looks like Davey will be rewarded with a raise and a new deal anyway. Say Hallelujah!
If only such good fortune would some day rain down on the just as sorrowfully moribund Falls Church City. But alas. The place is of course in shut-down mode today on account of the Labor Day holiday, but not much more will be going on tomorrow, as the wait for news about the
Corpse of S Washington Street is only expected to continue. There may be some debate of whether to run the life out of Thompson, Clare & Don's, and the State Theater by giving away all their parking to the bullies heading up Insight's still not dead Broad & Washington project. Or better sense may came to be the order of the day. We'll have to wait and see, but after decades of bad moves, one cannot be any too optimistic here.
