http://su517.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/spread-the-warmth-100-blanket-drive/ In honor of the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary in 2012, troops from Service Unit 51-7 will be launching the “Spread the Warmth: Girl Scout 100 Blanket Drive” in support of Reston Interfaith’s Embry Rucker Shelter. Girls already have begun collecting blankets and linens from family and friends, and will be bringing the do

The folks we know with kids at Fox Mill and Floris and Oak Hill ESes say they are very good; Rachel Carson Middle is great; most of the high schools are pretty good.

Wow. While I agree that turkeys are alive and feel pain - just like us, just like dogs and cats - I would like to argue that dogs and cats are both more useful to humans (hunting down vermin, occasionally fetching and protecting things) and are far more intelligent than turkeys. It would indeed be great if there were vegan options as yummy as meat. Please improve the tofurkey so meat-eaters wo

don't know about socially acceptable but those small disposable bathroom cups will clog it up. Preschoolers like to do this.

11/11 is always Veterans Day 11/11/11 has been suggested as Nigel Tufnel Day (Spinal Tap) 11/11/11 should be Wear Your Stripes Day - it's all lines. So wear stripes on Friday!

ON A MALE ADULT HUMAN: some chest hair is fine. Think Tom Selleck, for the older crowd, or Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. hairy arms are generally fine. furry shoulders, back hair, and neck hair - well, depends how much. Getting less appealing unless you're into werewolves or bears. Or if you're always cold. When you have to shave your neck to show where it is... :-< gorilla look does not ap

the one that turns to mush in your driveway is most likely the Examiner. They deliver it even if you try to cancel it.

Actual fun jobs in this area that don't require a suit or sitting in a cubicle: * work at a skating rink. If you can skate, you could get a job as a rink guard . If you know your equipment, you could get a job in the shop. If not, there's always the snack bar or front desk or party helper. There's Ashburn Ice House, SkateQuest Reston, and also the just-rebuilt, reopening-now Prince William I

They finally posted a better reason than to keep kids from getting fat, although that was part of it. FCPS asked the vendor for a healthier chocolate milk (no high-fructose corn syrup; possibly skim as well); vendor said no; they canned the chocolate milk. Don't know why they couldn't find a different vendor who would be willing. Now there are a lot of ES kids drinking water instead of milk

Please post or PM anything you know or have heard about it/the family, either then or since. We knew the family at the time but can't remember their name. Don't know if the house was rebuilt. Was 1977 or 1978, during a school day - lunchtime to early afternoon. Small plane was trying to land at Dulles in fog (so probably fall or early spring). Pilot ended up crashing on Indian Ridge Road, ac

Grew up playing in the Lake Anne Plaza fountain. My kids have played in it. The fountain was designed for kids, as the photo board *at* Lake Anne Plaza reminds people. Yesterday we went over there & there were "no pets/no children in the fountain" signs on the fountain. When did this happen and who approved it?

My folks were near G Street down by the Expo Center this afternoon/evening and said there was a really bad multi-car accident just before they got there. Flames, fire trucks, ambulance(s), etc. They guessed someone was going too fast on the bridge or wasn't leaving enough room. Did anyone see what happened? I hope everyone got out OK, but it's not sounding good :-<

Sorry to hear about your tire. I haven't gotten any tire work done - mostly lubricants & filters, and we've been happy with their work for last several years.

Got the oil changed there in one vehicle a couple of weeks ago. Went back last week with the other vehicle for the same; place is completely shut down for renovations, including the gas pumps; fence around the whole thing. Any idea when it'll be back open?

Corner of Meadow Hall & Monroe St., south of Herndon. Who picked this sign? Stone, check. Nice font, check. Cheap cinderblock supports, check. Looks like a poorly-installed headstone, check. Paraphrasing: "You can come home any time you like, but you can ...never leave!" It's sad enough to see when the weather is nice, but when it's wet out... :-<
