Why do longtime NoVA residents prefer this area to what we've seen or heard of MD? The roads, in part. MD road signs don't seem to be as sensical as VA's and MD tends to have housing right on roads that we'd consider to be highways, making it very dangerous to be a pedestrian. What's nice about this area that might not hold true in a lot of the rest of the country? * ethnically, socially diver

there's also an all-around buffet between Babies 'R' Us and K-mart (Centreville Road & 50, near 28) that has a lot of sushi. HUGE place. Food's pretty good. Not cheap.

Did he arrive by car or air? There were two white planes, traveling closely together, headed in that direction around 8:30am.

Curmudgeon() - Very good points except for the "nerds" rant. Inaccurate. Most of the folks I know who grew up bullied for being "nerds" are now pretty well-rounded, with the "jobs, kids, you know.. important stuff" you've pinpointed. It's more the *other* folks who want to micromanage the rest of the neighborhood.

Wow, that sounds really annoying. Funny, if you're NOT living there, but I would hate that. If I wanted that level of micromanagement and direction where I lived, I'd buy a fancy condo in a gated, guarded community or else save my money and live in a barracks. We do have a ton of military, State Dept., other straight-laced government workers, etc. in our neighborhood. Some are very blatantl

I find it fascinating that the Daily Mail writer, supposedly in the UK, is coming out with stories about this local event before our local papers are. The writer is the one who posted in this thread. So someone here is feeding her info - but not, apparently, our local papers. Have you seen this one yet? It has family photos I haven't seen elsewhere, and I've been actively looking for articles

It's not a matter of moving in and refusing to comply with the covenants. The neighborhood has covenants, but they were never strict and they were never strictly enforced. Other than specifics on front doors and a couple of other items (like no fences around your front yard and - until recently - no satellite dishes visible from the street) the covenants are pretty general and the ARC and HOA b

Kids who went to church or school with the Petersons are being asked on various FB and G+ pages to wear black on Wednesday 9/26 and red on Friday 9/28 in their memory. Some of the kids who knew one or both of the boys have been asking their principals AND principals at some other local schools (since kids at other schools may have gone to church with the family) for moments of silence, flags a

We also have them and we also think they stink. We have gotten violation letters from them for: * after trash pickup, leaving our trashcan on the side of the house, up against the fence to the back yard, but not all the way behind its usual bush. This was in January; there was some snow on the ground, and I think it was within the first few months to the first year Sequoia had taken over. Befo

I've been underwhelmed by Ruth's Chris. Too much $ for the food and I *hate* the super-hot platters they pride themselves on. I'd rather my steak cool off a bit from the oven than worry the whole meal about burning myself on my plate. Prefer PF Chang's - if you don't go during the rush it shouldn't be too loud.

Men who clean up after themselves Men who clean up more than just their own messes, without being asked (ie. clearing the table, vacuuming a shared area if it needs it, washing the dirty pots too, not just putting the plates & silverware & mugs into the dishwasher) Men who offer to help with things you *could* do yourself but hate to do - and then DO help if you accept their offer Men who
