Well, I'm sorry that things are so biased now. My kids had plenty of rote to go along with. It was an excellent mix and I think made them creative thinkers in the later grades and even now in college. Why do the pendulums have to always swing so far?

Not at the beach w/ Quantum et al... I think we can all acknowledge that the things posted on this forum are anecdotal, so HW Parent's experiences may not jibe with those of other parents. My kids loved the way art was integrated into the subject matter at HWES (and they were there two principals ago). Studies have shown that the more a subject is repeated and integrated into the brain via w

Quantum, thank you for the above post. Perhaps you didn't realize that prior to the GT center being located at Hunters Woods, it was at Crossfield. There was a push to move some students from over-crowded Crossfield to Hunters Woods, including kids attending Crossfield who would have matriculated to Hughes and SL (Fox Mill Woods). The Crossfield parents were so openly opposed to moving to Hunt

South Lakes Class of 2007 sent a student to MIT to study engineering. It does happen, despite what some might say.

Forum Reader, you totally missed the point of what I was saying. I understand that you view everything through the AP prism, so I will just leave it at that. I do have to laugh though when you say that AP is for the other 95%. In which schools are 95% of the students taking AP classes (and please don't count TJ).

I check in from time to time but nothing has really changed, has it? Some people try to elevate the discussion, some hurl gratuitous insults, some repost the same old comments ad nauseum, some reach out and try to begin the healing, some respond in kind, and both get rebuffed or ignored or smacked. Fox Mill families who choose to go to South Lakes either have brilliant kids (and we know that be

To all future Seahawk families, those both already in the pyramid and those who will be coming, I encourage you to continue the discussion about AP and IB. There are many families in our community with children of all ages who will welcome it. South Lakes was already an IB school by the time my children got there (it was an AP school when we bought our home). My children did very well with the

Tina Hone is a self-serving, self-centered politician. This is all about her and her grandstanding. She could give a rats ass about MI, except for maybe any money they threw her way.

Please put this in perspective. So much angst for such a small issue. Use your energies for good and for healing. Is that why CAPS chose to hold their meeting at the RCC Lake Anne Community Center, the Ground Zero of the Failed Social Experiment?

Notice that the top IB schools also offer AP classes, which skews their results up. To those who keep speaking of Aldrin, it was placed in Herndon in 1993 or so, when SL was an AP school and many years before IB was implemented. Again, that is when SL fortunes began to decline.

You want any non-magnet IB school in the County to go down in flames, so you can be right. Admit it. Oakton Parent, I am really not trying to be haughty. I am just asking why Oakton parents are concerned and wanted an honest answer. It looks like Oakton will be just about where Madison was a few years ago, and since Oakton is such a great school, with few of the demographic issues that SL has, I anticipate that its numbers will be just fine or will actually increase as folks moving into the ar

I am intrigued that Oakton parents are so concerned about their numbers being reduced; does that not give them more empathy for South Lakes and not less? What are they afraid of: less sections offered, smaller sports teams, less money in the Booster coffers? Now perhaps the parents of Oakton know how we South Lakes parents have felt lo these many years (at one point, the SB tried to move por

The point is that Woodson is not a school with many disadvantaged children, so the idea that it was purposefully placed in only low-scoring schools, which is what Neen said, is false. Can we agree on that?

Manoj Bol, Neen conveniently overlooks the fact that IB is at Robinson and was at Woodson for two years, both schools that don't fit her view of history. It's ok, though, as for her "the end justifies the means."
