Dear Cary,
Have you considered that his "garbage posts," most of which are confined to this thread, are Mr. Misery's unconventional but legitimate way of expressing himself?
If all of his posts were silly nonsense, that would be one thing. But I think a review of his body of work clearly shows a number of posts which reflect genuine intelligence, insight, writing ability, and visual creativity.
I suppose what I'm getting at is: if you walked into an art gallery circa early 1950s, and saw a blank canvas on the wall, you might have rolled your eyes and concluded, "That's not art."
But many serious critics consider the blank (or, more specifically, erased) canvases of Robert Rauschenberg to be legitimate art.
Examples of seemingly ludicrous non-art-that-actually-is-art can be multiplied: Andy Warhol's 8-hour film "Empire," which consists of a single shot of the Empire State Building; John Cage's famous "4'33"," a composition in which the musicians sit on stage in complete silence for 4 minutes and 33 seconds; Marcel Duchamp's mounting of a urinal on a museum wall; or the work of Virginia's own Cy Twombly, not a few of whose paintings look for all the world like the scrawlings of an obsessed, ADD child:
When I scroll through Miz's gibberish posts, I see a form of self-expression -- part troll, yes, but also part rage, and part pure uncensored id.
I think this thread, gibberish posts and all, is an expression of Miz's personality, in some respects not unlike Cy Twombly.
Indeed, if Cy Twombly worked in the medium of internet discussion forums, he might come up with a thread like this, complete with seemingly endless gibberish posts.
I can understand you banning Miz for unprovoked attacks in the General forum, but I would ask you to reconsider removing the gibberish posts from this thread, or banning him on the basis of such posts. (If he spammed other threads with long chains of gibberish posts, that would be another story; but he seems to keep the gibberish chains to this thread.)
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
voodooslut
