Where I doubt seriously that Chris Scott actively recruits, I don't doubt the attraction for parents to want to have their kids play for him and choosing to relocate to do so . It's just a fact of life.

As a fan up in the stands, I can tell you that for whatever you can say about a Coach Scott team, his staff is top notched. From the very start, I noticed, they keep the kids engaged and focused on being coached up the whole game. Westfield's Coach Simmons Bulldogs that won 3 straight vs Smith were the only other team that I have seen be able to accomplish this during game time scenarios!!

Last, the parents obviously notice that it's worth the effort to make a family change that is best for their kids, PERIOD! IF kids & parents can choose to enroll their family into a Specialty Focused Academic Program, then why wouldn't a parent make the same choice for an athletic program too!!?? Elite, Top Tier kids want these challenges. It's up to us as parents to provide and encourage them to do so!

He probably leaves the field and weight room open and builds relationships with kids who will eventually play for them - regardless where they live. Just how it goes. FFX needs a super stacked all star team to compete with SB and OS.

Hey, OS, I was watching y’all highlights against Phoebus and I saw this FAT White kid #77 I think. I couldn’t believe it man lmao he was HUGE. God bless lmao. I got nothing against SB, OS, but fuck Freedom.

Anyway, who y’all got winning these bitches today? Madison/CVILLE, SoCO/WP, Battlefield/FREEDOM

Yeah, #76... He is HUGE & has that floppy pannus that reminds me of the Center from Westfield back in 2015/16 or so.. I hadn't noticed him on the roster until the St Johns Bosco game.. Smith's top Center Recruit had been injured early in the season & i'm sure the coaches saw him in the hallways of the school.. I bet they thought he was an employee because he looks like a bearded grown man!!

Waiting for the results of today's Battlefield Vs Freedom game. Come to Chesapeake & get some of THIS SMOKE!!

I believe Fairfax Schools could sell their schools academic prowess and the area's job opportunities to attract families/players. Even Vienna has lower cost older condos/apartments for out of town families who can't afford the expensive houses. Also, perhaps wealthy locals could rent properties at below market prices to get players (this may not be legal but probably happens).

Im taking Madison, WP, Freedom in today's games

You are a friggin idiot if you think it takes a “stacked” team to beat OS. Think about how Westfield did it 3x in a row. Much better QB play, win the turnover margin. Even when OS had Shonn Mitchell who was the best QB OS had in past 10yrs, Westfield had better QB play. Also Westfield plain out-coached them on both sides of the ball. Doesn’t take a stacked team at all.

You are completely right. Sound coaching can win you games even if the other team has the better players. As a complete neutral, I don’t think anyone in VA (including Stone Bridge) can beat this years Smith team. Freedom has the best shot.

You will have to pay, It is $10.99 per month or about $100 per year. You can cancel at any time. All FCPS games during the regular season were free on this NFHS, but you gotta pay for the playoffs.

You can believe that story but I KNOW the inside stuff which IF known would reveal exactly how special it was that those SMITH teams even made it to the State Title games!!! Basics are:

1. Shon Mitchell was over-hyped. He went to William & Mary and FLOPPED.
2. MORE key transfers left or got kicked OFF Smith than came into the program for those years.
3. The chaos that those teams had to confront could not be imagined by the Westfield staff. 3 coaches in 3 years, one year the head coach traveled home EVERY week to care for his dying mother, the next year, their head coach is dying of cancer & barely lives long enough to make it to the game @ Hampton. The next they had a mediocre head coach that had never figure out how to beat Smith & he almost allowed the kids to run the team more than he did!!

True, but being able to source players from surrounding areas is an advantage

Madison up 21-0, couple minutes to go in first half, Centreville can't do anything on offense. Madison has pounded the ball but their QB made a couple nice throws, one for a long TD. Thought the Warhawks could only run is what all the previous posters said all year long.

If you run this state how come you're currently losing 21-0 in the first half to Madison.

Most skilled my ass, you guys got nothing, getting a beat down by those rich kids from Vienna.

Remember this dipshit post, thought the "Resto boys gonna dominate", right now you're losing 21-0 at half. By the way, you're being dominated by a much better team.

Cville has no answer for the Warhawks defense. Resto struggling big time. Throwing ducks and under throwing receivers. Madison has had two big plays. That lead to two touchdowns.Ragland maybe 5 yards.

This game was a lot like Gar-field beating Freedom.. Their QB lost composure with the Battlefield pass rush.. And they took away the flats.. Freedom was not able to stop the run..

Smith would have crushed Overton's Eagles. Battlefield is the better team but their hearts will be broken. Same as 2011!

I think Madison beats SoCo next but nothing would be better than to see them @ ODU!! In end, the result will be the same.

Ragland ran for 59 yards in the regular season game versus Madison where they never came out of their vanilla defense.

I’d be surprised if he had 50 today.

Coach shields might be the best hype man in VA. Every year he someone how convinces every team in Nova that his team is the best and that he has the best players. 3 all district lineman, opoty at running back, multiple all district receivers, all district d lineman and mlb. Apparently centerville has the best players in the district yet they get absolutely fucked by the far superior Madison team. Shields needs to stop getting his shitty sons and players recognition that they don’t deserve. Otherwise you will continually see an overhyped cville team get their backs blown out. Focus on team awards not player awards.

The jury is out on that. Westfield already has two FR QBs who are as good, or better, than Resto. They just did not get to play much since WF went with Jenks all season. If WF had a solid line-they did not this year, and it showed-Jenks would have probably been on par with Resto, and neither of them is great.

1. Centreville @ Madison (-6)
- I said I had a feeling the score would be wider the second time around, and boy was I right. Madison won 35-7, did Centreville even show up? Where was Ragland, etc? Madison's defense must've completely shut the Wildcats down on offense.

2. Mountain View @ Stone Bridge (-24)
- Stone Bride blanked Mountain View 37-0 for their 22nd win in a row.

3. West Potomac @ South County (-6)
- First things first, thank you to the user who correctly pointed out that West Potomac was South County's Homecoming game, I completely forgot about that when typing up last week's spreads. South County won on Saturday 33-27. It was a fantastic ballgame. SoCo was down 10-27 at one point before rallying and scoring 23 unanswered. SoCo intercepted the Wolverines with around 2 minutes left and then scored the game winning TD with 33 seconds left. The Wolverines have nothing to hang their heads about, they battled, pulled off 2 upsets in the playoffs and finished with a winning record.

***** Doing the same thing I did last week, just trying my hand on some other games around the state as we get down to the nitty gritty.

1. Battlefield @ Freedom (-17)
- Battlefield won 24-7, I did not see this one coming. Wow. Big time upset.

2. Broad Run (-3) @ Tuscarora
- Broad Run won 35-0. They are now 13-1. Their one loss? 7-64 to Stone Bridge, Seriously.

3. Hermitage @ Highland Springs (-14)
- "Will we be seeing Springers v. Bulldogs yet again in December?" Indeed we will. HSHS won 52-13.

4. Western Branch @ Oscar Smith (-25)
- Oscar Smith rolls, 58-6.

Hard to fathom we are already prepping for the State Semis. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Before I start, this season is quickly coming to an end. If someone starts a 2022 thread before next season (doesn't have to be now! lol), I will continue to do my spreads next year. I know there’s not many of us on here (compared to VAPreps forums) but I still enjoy posting them here and I think some of you do as well. So, if, or when anyone makes a 2022 thread, please post the link to the 2022 thread in this thread so I can find it. Thanks y’all.

Not many games left, so I’m going to include the out of town games as well as our games in alphabetical order as I normally do. I know all the games at Saturday afternoon, although some may be neutral games and some may be true home games. Not really sure, but anyways, here we go…

1. Broad Run @ Salem (-5)
- Don’t know a lot about Salem but I know they’re constantly making it this far. A family friend lives in Lynchburg and said Salem is a power down there. So, with that being said give me Salem. It ends for Broad Run this week I think, but I’m always going to root for the NOVA team.

2. Battlefield @ Oscar Smith (-17)
- 13-0 Bobcats against the Class 6 favorites. If Battlefield can slow down Smith with a great game plan like they did against Freedom, then maybe it will be close. I just don’t see it, Smith has too much power. Again, rooting for the NOVA team.

3. Highland Springs @ Stone Bridge (-8)
- If I still lived in the area I would be at this game. Definitely game of the week for me. SB is 1-3 against Highland Springs since 2015 and they finally got over the hump last year. I like the Bulldogs again this year at home (big advantage). HSHS definitely has a bigger line than SB but SB has the same, if not more talent. SB also has the better QB. I like the Bulldogs to play Maury for a Ring. (Maury was the last team to beat SB.)

4. Maury (-6) @ Green Run (NEUTRAL GAME)
- Green Run might be 12-0 but I still like Maury to win this game. Don’t know much about either team except Maury always has talent and Green Run has quite a few talented underclassmen.

5. South County @ Madison (-7)
- Game of the week for a lot of you guys I’m sure. The match-up everyone wanted to see. Spaulding being back for SoCo helps a lot (he scored twice last Saturday) but I think Madison’s staunch defense will do their part. The offense is going to have to be rolling as SoCo has athletes all over the field on defense. Madison also went through the Concorde gauntlet and played SB so they are more battle tested in my mind. I like the Wildcats to play the Tigers next week.

Football has slipped up North. It'll return as this is a normal fluctuation. Does anyone think Shields can play at Tech? How bout Ragland? Ragland is small without great speed.I don't think Shields could play D3.

Isn't Ragland a junior. He looked like he was running in sand yesterday

You are a bit off here. SC trailed only once, 3-0, then went ahead for almost the entire rest of the game. WP trailed SC 26-10 at the half after WP went for it on 4th and 3 near midfield (trailing 20-10) with about 3 minutes left. SC stopped WP then scored to go into the half leading 26-10. WP then cut it to 26-18. SC later stopped WP on a 4th and goal at the SC 3, then SC fumbled on the first snap and WP tied it at 26-26.

I know I was following the Centreville game on MaxPreps and they literally had it 34-7 Centreville at one point. I then went to NFHS and paid for a subscription. Maybe that’s what he did idk who knows, but I can tell you first hand MaxPreps sucks

Really good write-up on the Battlefield/Freedom game. Do you guys think Battlefield has a fighters chance against Oscar Smith? And btw yes Parentof2, I enjoy your spreads and think you should keep doing them

I will speak up for West Potomac. They don't have a presence here. I watched the South County game the best I could on NFHS Network. There auto camera stuff is terrible but it's better than trying to follow the games any other way short of going to them.

South County pretty much won the same way they beat Madison last year. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was as if the SAME refs were making the SAME calls on the final drive. A 3 or 4th down PI call to extend the drive when it looked like WP had them stopped??? Madison better expect the same ploys next week. SC is going to get the calls SO just do what SMITH did & run up the score from the beginning!

Great Write up!!! Coach Hatfield actually gave away what he did vs Freedom to pressure their QB? Who does that, really? So, he used an 8-3, heavy blitz package & Overton had ZERO answer for it! Battlefield Coaches did their homework but you can bet SMITH will & have already outworked their players AND coaches.

Let them bring 2 DB's & see if they can get to Vasco before he gets the backside dump offs and screens for a score. AND they will not have an answer for Smith's run heavy, tight formation. No one, not Massaponax, not South County, NO team stopped the beef up front & the 350lb tight end & sneaker backs last year AND the OL has gotten even bigger this FALL. GOOD Luck with a game plan for that!!!

I am SOOO hyped for this game, I wish it were played today!!! Oh well, I'll have to use that energy to conquer the leaves today!

Shields is a decent high school player that lacks size and has a little speed. No way will he play at tech. And he’s a preferred walk on.

You all have to stop coming on here lying! That flag your speaking of was waved off! WP got more calls their way that’s a fact not opinion look at the penalty yards. It was a good game that WP came up short in leave the refs out of it.

Thank you for your support. I started a 2022 thread early just so I can book mark it. http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/3770585.html is the link.

I’m also a big local HS basketball guy (both my sons played). There’s a thread on local hoops I will be posting in periodically as well if anyone is interested. http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/3770564.html That is the link. Thanks as always guys. See you Sunday.

Correction Nova Fan. SoCo only trailed West Potomac early in the 1st 3-0. West Po rallied from behind and tied the game before Spalding scored his 3rd TD to end the Cinderella story.

Freedom-W coach Overton is a HORRIBLE COACH! Recruits all that talent every year and can’t win the big games because he is horrible at the x’s & o’s, he can’t even read x’s & o’s. Game plan is off Madden and thinks if he and his team can just show up mean mug and intimidate the opposition and win games. Doesn’t work that way. I wouldn’t let him coach my pop-Warner team. @MD4XD

Recruiting is terrible and should probably be dealt with legally somehow. However, some programs do a terrible job at the right type of recruiting, that being driving turnout from their own school. IDK if this is the job of the VHSL, VDOE, individual counties, or whoever, but there needs to be support programs in place to drive turnout from kids at their own school. Why do we think turnout is down across the state? Why do so many people say the talent level has decreased? Why does RE Lee HS (lewis) only have 25 some kids in their program in a school of over 2,000? Its not like kids have to even pick up a football prior to highschool to be able to play like other sports (baseball, typically). Highschool football programs needs to have serious school pyramid outreach to drive interest. Kids need to get into the weightroom prior to HS and then during all of HS. Theres a lack of interest? Coaches, get to your feeder middle schools and DRIVE that interest. Thats how the level of talent in FFX is going to improve.

outreach to middleschools means going to them on field day, having an assembly, or whatever, and selling them the idea of playing football. Have your players go there and meet kids. It means having a pyramid game where all the kids from the HS pyramid middle and elementary schools get in free. Give them a shirt or whatever too. Let them go on the field after and meet players. It means having a summer camp for these kids to learn some football, it means an afterschool program in middle school to prepare them (basic lifting, sprinting, flag football). This is why Texas HS football is so good.

Less kids playing football has more to do with youth participation being down because the war against football that was been waged against it for past 10+ years for fear of CTE, where these liberals want to wussify and emasculate all the young boys. Now I do agree that these hs coach’s need to get off their asses and get in the their own hallways and find kids because they are there and establish relationships with middle school and elementary school PE teachers and after school program teachers to get them back out playing the best game ever. Fuck the Libs who want to see our boys playing field hockey.

100 percent on this. Rooting for Battlefield and Madison as they win with coaching and developing their players (no recruiting)

Ghetto is cheap, easy term like the over use of Racist. How are you gonna feel when Smith puts the running clock on Battlefield? BTW Smith is an IB school and their current group of players have Naval Academy, IV League, UVA offers. AND I would bet their GPA matches up pretty well vs Battlefield.

Keep insulting those things that your afraid of. I'm sure that'll get you far, not!

The IB program at OS is basically just for the white kids and is falling apart anyway. Didnt the superintendent of CPS recently get fired for misappropriating funds? Oscar Smith is a football team with a school attached to it. Very sad, and nothing to brag about. Madison on the other hand has highly sought after realestate in its district because of their quality of education (AP is better than IB)

There you go again with a running clock. Didn’t that team from Cali do that to you. Hurts don’t it. Faced another team that draws (recruits) legally and you got blanked. And bring up something from 2009. Those kids are dads now. What has the teams from up north done to OS since then. No mention of that. Now since Scott has come in and built a powerhouse you want to brag. Sure, they probably will win states. Can’t wait to see your post then…

I hope you're not representing Madison HS. Your thought processes & writing skills wouldn't get you accepted into your local Community College. Better let up on that THC stick for a bit, get some rest & head off to your middle school in the morning.

O. Smith… as a somewhat obvious James Madison supporter here, I hope he isn’t either… trotting out tired tropes that have little to due with the development of football players.

St Johns Bosco wouldn't come to ANY Norther VA to play them!! NONE of your Coaches have the balls to schedule them.. AND playing them helped more than you'd understand!

I gloat this year because even tbough the tradition of excellence will continue in 2022, I seriously doubt VA will see another team like Smith's Spring & Fall 21! With probably 26 Seniors graduating in the Summer, all playing fields will be evened out, IMHO. That team will be very young, similar to the 2019 team!

2022 schedule & you'll see WHY a running clock is nearly inevitable vs Smith.... 80-90% of these points were gained by HALFTIME!!

It has a lot to do with the youth programs. The top teams right now are Stone Bridge, Battlefield, Madison, and South County. Vienna, Gainesville, and the Loudoun youth ball (that's excluding the Leesburg travel team) all had the best turnout for numbers. Those were also all the winning programs within FCYFL.

South County still has great athletes but their youth programs have been a little dysfunctional these past couple years.

Then on the flipside, the numbers for the SYA and Chantilly youth programs have been way down these last couple years. Both those programs couldn't even field an "A" team at all levels this year which is rare for them. Both of those programs feed into Westfield, Cville, Chantilly, and Oakton who have all been going downhill. Sure Cville made it to regional finals but they aren't who they used to be aka playing against Gonzaga on ESPN. Oakton just sucks, they're their own problem.

All I'm saying is that there's a common theme between the turnout at youth and the success/failure of that high school.

We can't have kids playing flag up through 8th grade and then think they can compete when they get to high school.

Just a thought

Damb, how did you figure all that on your own? Or did your sixth grade buddies tell you that during gym class today?

Yep, pressure from liberal, woke parents in Northern VA being put on parents that want their kids to play football. "eewwwww, you're not, like, letting your little Chase play football are you? He/she/they'll never get into Georgetown if you do THAT!"

7-7 gets a bad rap. It’s important for QB & WR to develop their skill as much as possible because most hs don’t do enough of it whether in games and practice so when the first pass doesn’t connect in the game the coach will get super conservative (looking at you Robinson)and not pass again til 30 plays later. Also the traveling and competing against top kids around the east coast helps kids develop and get kids noticed on college coach’s radars if you do the big tournaments. How else would Resto as a smaller QB be the starter at Cville. I know this is an unpopular take and people will bash my stance but whatever those are the dinosaurs who think Wildcats should still be running the Wing-T. Haters gonna hate. Btw, Peyton Manning didn’t play tackle til 8th grade, only did flag up until then, worked out pretty well for him.

No matter what offense or defense you want to run, you still need the big boys to battle it out on the line. Can't learn that in 7 on 7. Hard to get a pass off if you got a bunch of primadonna skill players trying to block. Team sport

I'm not bashing 7 on 7 leagues but that's meant for basically a workout in the spring and summers. A lot of kids only football experience by the time they get to high school is flag which is not good.

Make Football Violent Again

It is pathetic. Ive been in NoVa for 45 years. I see little kids riding their big wheel with a face mask and bicycle helmet. It didn't use to be that way.

I had three sons go through CYA. From 2005 to 2016. Took my 9 year old back in August 2005 to the CYA tryouts at Poplar Tree Park. There must have been 300 kids. Each weight class - other than 125 and 150 - had at least three teams. And some had four. All of them learned how to tackle and block before they hit high school. I miss those days - except the weigh ins at Falls Church High School.

CYA’s demise was and is being hastened by the poor leadership (or lack thereof) from the fat, lazy, racist commish Jeff Davey and his mouth breathing son of his Matt. They do nothing. CYA needs a new commish.
