South Carolina. A volunteer on Seacoast Church’s security team accidentally fired his weapon in the building. He had unloaded his 9mm handgun and placed it on a windowsill with the slide open. After inserting a magazine and releasing the slide, he did a dry-fire, not realizing there was a round in the chamber. It struck the floor. 2/2019
Utah. A .22 revolver accidentally fired in a Mormon church, sending a bullet through a wall and into a classroom with teens. It was carried in a backpack by a 74-year-old man. The hammer apparently got caught on something. 9/2018
Florida. A man was teaching gun safety at Eglise Baptiste Philadelphia church to three young people when he accidentally snagged the trigger of his 9mm pistol and it fired. 4/2018
Kentucky. A grandmother was heading home after church with three grandsons, one of whom was driving. The other two, ages 12 and 17, were in the backseat passing around a muzzle3-loading pistol which they didn’t realize was loaded. It fired, killing the grandmother. 10/17

Colorado. A man worked as an armed security guard for a church that met in a Clarion Hotel. Believing his gun was empty, he racked the slide and used the trigger to decock the firearm. It discharged into a chair and lodged in the floor.
Mississippi. As the congregation finished singing a hymn, a man went to sit down and the 9mm in his front pocket discharged.
Missouri. A truck driver’s .38 accidentally fired in a church, shooting a man through the chest. The two men were cleaning up after a fundraiser. The Cobra Derringer fell out of the man’s coat pocket as he prepared to leave, hit the floor, and fired. Because people were popping balloons, he didn’t even know his gun had fired. A woman noticed the gun lying on the floor and gave it to him before he exited. Only later, upon hearing news of a shooting, did he realize it was from his own gun. 2/2012

New York City. A lavish wedding at the Waldorf Astoria was interrupted when a 9mm handgun, in the pocket of a cousin of the groom, discharged. It grazed the head of one woman, and three other guests were struck by flying marble, tile, and glass.
