You're going out of your way by blaming outsiders. Fairfax has its own gang of indigenous foodies who have working for years to turn the school menu into macrobiotic mucilege. I remember being totally bored listening to one of these characters carrying on about the value of organic green beans. As if anyone but a few anorexics would even touch a fork to them. I also remember hearing something abo

Remember John Geer? He was gunned down by the Ffx cops last August while standing in his doorway. Has anyone heard more about the investigation that allegedly took place after this killing?

"Please contact your county election official or registrar to report it" You can't mean Fairfax county election officials, can you? Those imbeciles just failed to count 2,000 votes in Mason District and apparently also missed about 3,200 absentee ballots. If you think you've found an irregularity, take it to court.

Sorry guy, recalling elected officials isn't an option in the Commonwealth. I'm with you on removing all the spendthrift supervisors from the BOS. However, the reason they keep getting reelected is because a lot of voters are happy to shell out tax money to fund their demands for boutique school programs and an exhorbitant level of public services. In fact, earlier this week, the voters rubbersta

The big problem with heat pumps is that they blow out currents of air at roughly the temp the thermostat is set at. A seventy-two degree current of air may sound warm, but IMHO it's really uncomfortable. So, I'd recommend getting gas heat. Gas furnaces generate air currents that are typivcally 30 or more degrees higher and both the supply and price of gas is likely to remain stable for the forese

One of our priorities over here in Mason will be to get rid of that train wreck known as Sandy Evans. She's in the hip pocket of the Lake Barcroft Fat Cat's Association which has her voting to fund all of their pork barrel school projects. In case you missed the memo, most of the School Board members are elected by various community and homeowner associations for the purpose of getting their pet

This isn't the first time these zanies have tried that pitch. Found this online: Sun Gazette Newspapers December 21, 2011 "While you won’t find the phrase “independent taxing authority” inside the Fairfax County School Board’s 2012 state and federal legislative package, you will find “fiscal autonomy.” It’s tucked away on Page 29 of a nearly 40-page wish list of things the School Board wants f

I've called WaPo multiple times trying to get them to stop throwing their ad-inserts (I don't get the newspaper) on my driveway. No success." chill peeps: You're right about the inappropriateness of all the nasty comments. I revised one of my earlier posts to tone down the rhetoric. This situation really got to me, but it's easy to forget that these are just kids and that kids can't always be held to adult standards of behavior. Getting past this is going to be tough on all those kids and I wish them luck. On the other hand, this wa

Girls/prosecutor misleading?: (1) The key concept here is "child pornography". Videotapes depicting minors in sex acts are child porn. It's illegal to posses such images. Furthermore, distributing those images is a major felony. Minors can't consent to the production or distribution of illegal pornographic images. So, it wouldn't matter even if some of the "activities" were performed with the s

I stopped going to the Dulles Expo show because there are very few actual gun dealers exhibiting there. Most of the displays are for gun gear, books, and junk like knives and silencers. The prices for the few firearms on display are ridiculous which probably doesn't matter because the dealers don't accept food stamps anyway. It amazes me how effective the NRA is in leading all those $35k per year

I love the burgers at Five Guys. They're seasoned so well, I don't even get a lot of toppings. Just American cheese. However, the fries are horrific. Soggy and overseasoned. Same problem at Hellburger.

I've been shooting there for years. The staff is professional and the range safety guys are insistent about shooters sticking to the rules. The range consists of partitioned shooter "stalls" with good lighting behind shooters. The target side is more dimly lit for contrast, but I've never had any problems making out the targets. The store is pretty pricey. There are better deals to be had most

He'll get off easy if they can keep him off the stand. This guy has the IQ of a creamsicle and there's no way he'll ever be able to explain his actions. The police dispatcher is on tape telling him to back off and wait for the police. So, being the brain surgeon he is, it looks like he ignored that advice and confronted Martin anyway. After predictably starting to get his butt kicked by Martin, t

I wonder what they'll do with Z-man's pistol once he goes to prison. Usually they destroy them after a waiting period, but I'd sure like to see them auction it.

@ boom_boom Getting a Kel Tec is not a bad idea. They come with a lifetime warranty. They're also relatively inexpensive. I thought this might be the sign of a cheaply built pistol, but I took what I thought was a gamble and bought one anyway. Since then, I've fired my 9 MM hundreds of times with no problems.

Technically, throwing unsolicited newspapers onto your property is a trespass once you've requested them to stop. However, the jeks at the Ffx County prosecutor's office won't do anything about it. They've concocted a fairly unconvincing reason for this, but the bottom line is they don't want the hassle. If you can't get the Examiner to leave you alone, the nuclear option is to take them to the C

There's a lot more justification for giving raises to teachers than some of the other drivel that's in the school budget. I just found this in the Post: "Elementary-level foreign language classes and immersion programs, available in dozens of schools, will expand into 10 additional schools...." This program is a prime example of the pretentious approach to spending that's draining off dollars

Don't you mean you didn't see the KPW HOA step up to rehab this property with its money? I fail to see why a group of affluent homeowners refused to step up and pay a couple of hunded bucks each to clean up this eyesore. After all, they're the only real beneficiaries of this bailout. After it's cleaned up, this property will become nothing an empty greenspace acting as a buffer for KPW. That shou

Once the County bought the property the RPA issue was moot. (I can't believe you asked that question.) This question should properly be put to the HOA. They're the sole beneficiaries of this travesty. My alternative would have been to make the Board of the Swim Club meet their financial obligation to settle the debts of the Swim Club. This is a private organization in which the County had no ow

Tony, I made it to the meeting. What struck me most about it was how readily the local residents accepted the the questionable conclusion that virtually all nine or so acres of the property fell within the RPA. The purchase of this property was a foregone conclusion. So, the ruling that the bulk of the property was not suitable for redevelopment is factual only in that no one really had any incen

Will you kindly stop telling people what to do. First you tell Susie to quit posting her inquiries on this site. That's none of your business. Now you're telling me to take my concerns about the police chopper to a bunch of bureaucrats who already have received numerous complaints about this situation. So, if you don't like these posts, don't read them. And stop the innuendo. I'm not impressed by

Hey, Blue Thunder. Who annointed you the content guardian of this forum? Susie asked a legitimate question and, judging by the number of posts you're griping about, people are interested in finding out why they're being woken up all the time. After looking into this situation for some time, I've concluded that about half of the flights are made just because the chopper happens to be available. Fo

Kick his what? Hilarious. Colonel Commando is way too delusional to win. One of the reasons he claims to be running is because Keith Fimian came within a whisker of beating Gerry the last time. Apparently the Colonel is suffering from MRE withdrawal because he's forgotten that the 11th has been redistricted. The Va. legislature designed it specifically to corral as many Democrats as possible. Tha
