Just listened to Friday's TMOS.

Buzz had a few minutes to tell us about his trip home. But he barely got a word out thanks to the pear-shaped ass leakage and his countless, irrelevant, stammering interruptions. Mike cut in talked over Buzz every few seconds but had nothing to say, just that annoying, sputtering noise that he makes when he thinks he MUST talk but doesn't have a single, coherent thought.

Try finishing a sentence someday, O'Meara!

And you folks think Robb is bad.

Damn, next week is going to be so nice with Mike on vacation, far away from the microphones.

Won't affect me. In fact, since LFF's absence will make a meltdown less likely, while the show will likely be a bit better in an objective sense (that is, it will suck just a bit less), it still won't be good enough to tempt me to actually listen unless I see reports that something really juicy happened.

The downside to LFF being gone is Rob(b). He seems to usually assume he's the top banana of the wacky bunch when the obese fail leader is away. Who's going to tell him he only has time for one more amazing audio vault clip?

Try harder while I'm in Florida, jerks! I need to make payments on this new motorcycle (which I admittedly cannot afford) while RJ works for free and I set aside nothing for my daughters' education. Off to the casino!

Who IS the constituency for the audio vault? Is it just LFF and Rob(b) assuring each other that it's hilarious, despite mountains of evidence to the contrary?

as others have said, the worst thing this week, with mike being gone, is that robb will assert himself-not overtly, but by default...the others just dont seem to want to take over. So we are stuck with extra robb all week and that my friends is painful. And robb will be so happy, giddy and bubbly which is ever worse

Yes, I started the thread, and LFF has theories about who started the thread (basically, theories about who I am), but apparently some folks on here are incapable of connecting the dots. And the fact that members of the krewe regularly come on here speculating that I own a restaurant, DJ in Roanoke, drive an armored truck, have wives and kids with names that aren't correct and think I am a church elder with an MBA from GW...all of which are completely wrong...leads me to believe LFF's theories are 100% off the mark.

I'm sure it's been pointed out before, but Mike O'Meara's hypocrisy is charming.

He can't stand anyone criticizing him or his "work" but he can work up a pretty good lather as he bloviates about how the rest of the world is doing everything wrong.

Mike needs someone like WTL to needle him on a regular basis. Robb, Oscar, Buzz and Marc just kiss his ass and that's an ass that should never be kissed.

I don't know who he is but knowing that Mike is speculating for even a moment about WTL's secret identity makes me smile.

Like LFF has any idea how many people can't stand him (personally), the way he treated people (in his business), and/or the dreadfulness of the failcast.

You know, the guys are all capable of being really funny. The funniest material ever, with Oscar's seldom sexist rants being a close second, is when somebody (other than Mike) really makes fun of another cast member. There was a forbidden joke about Mike's gambling that actually made me laugh out loud. Nobody is allowed to be that free though, except Mike.

One example of my favorite bit of hypocrisy from Mike came from the last bonus show (yeah yeah I get the bonus shows) where they were talking about summertime and losing their virginity and such

Mike: "Yeah when I was 15 I had sex with this 16 y/o girl and it was awesome"

*later*

Oscar: "When I was 15 I was dating this other 15 y/o girl and we had sex"

Mike: "I HAVE TEENAGE DAUGHTERS YOU ASSHOLE!"

Anytime Mike gets into angry-father-of-teen-daughter(s) mode I think of one of my own ex's dad who I absolutely hated. Not gonna play tough guy and say I would have fought him, but I wouldn't complain if he found himself in front of a speeding train

The kids would have been good for one segment. I know Oscar bailed so they had time to fill, but it was too much. Buzz had a good story about rebuilding his deck and the trepidation he was experiencing while thinking about throwing a party on his new deck. Buzz is probably more of a closed book than anyone else on the show, this insight was very entertaining. I think his story was compressed due to all the time spent talking about 5th grade graduation and boy bands earlier in the show. I agree though that Buzz sounds much more at ease without LFF there to railroad all discussions back to the "land of suck" that is LFF's life.

Back to the world of Buzz, I think he said recently his house value peaked at about $500K, up from the $150K-$200K he originally bought it for some years ago. Now it was back down to the mid $300's. I forget which show in the last few weeks that was from, but it confuses me. I think Buzz lives near the Fairfax city area, I'm pretty sure he doesn't live in a townhouse. I assume his house is reasonably nice, where could this area be? Not stalking Buzz though. At the least, it shows he made a wise investment and probably has a very reasonable mortgage payment and decent equity.

If you Google "Michael Elston" "pool" and "Fairfax", you'll have a pretty good idea where Buzz lives. He got into it with the operators of a community pool a few years ago, and he talked about it on the air. Nice neighborhood.

Yes I realize this is very old news but the last segment of the article intrigued me. I had never heard before that he was part owner of the shopping center that LFF's Pub and Crawl resided in. If true Holy Crap! Anyone know how to go through the Prince William county govt. website to see if he's listed on the property records? Well fine then, there went the kid's college funds? And he was thinking of buying another bar before things went bad? I guess he must have been pulling down a $1 million a year during the glory years of Don and Mike. If this ownership is true he's more of a damn dummy than I ever gave him credit for.

O'Meara's closes its doors
O'Meara's located on Center Street shut its doors in late April

By: Kipp Hanley | InsideNova
Published: May 08, 2008
Once known for its vibrant nightlife, Old Town Manassas Irish pub O'Meara's closed for good in late April.

Established in 2003, O'Meara's was located in a strip mall on Center Street next to Prince William County/Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce and sandwich shop Deli Depot.

Owner Mike O'Meara, 50, was the co-host of the "Don and Mike" syndicated radio program and currently hosts the Mike O'Meara Show on WJFK-FM.

Some of O'Meara's business neighbors were unclear as to why he closed his place but at least one noticed it was struggling. Since late March, it was only operating on Fridays and Saturdays, said Deli Depot owner Casey Becker.

Becker said this year's St. Patrick's Day -- normally a "zoo" -- was the worst he'd seen since the business opened five years ago.

O'Meara didn't return phone calls Tuesday.

Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Jones said her employees often had business lunches there. "We are sad they are gone," Jones said. "It was very convenient for us."

O'Meara is a part-owner of the shopping center, which includes the city of Manassas Family Services and the Recreation and Parks departments, Jones and Becker said.

Buzz is in FFX City over by George Mason. Amazing how after the blowup and then the quiting and then the changing of the mind now Buzz may not be going to Maine. Sure, it's under the guise of his new project, but that reads realy thin. His not going to Maine must have been one of the caveats of coming back; "I am not traveling with you assholes ever again".

And what's the point of this trip, other than a write off for O'Meara to go to his family house for the summer? He has already said his family is meeting him there. Why not be honest and say "I want to see the old family place again and I want to be able to do the show and have our show funds pay for it" rather than some roadtrip bullshit.

I should have been more clear; I'm not surprised by the swing, I'm surprised Buzz's house isn't worth more than that, it's on the low end for single family homes in the area. Again, more of an observation that he knows how to live within his means, unlike LFF.

Mike is a degenerate gambler. It's well documented. He's addicted to gambling and even now, with creditors on his ass, he can't stay out of the casinos.

Back in the D&M days, when both of them were getting paid handsomely for their efforts, Mike was gambling away his fortune faster than he could earn it.

Don had Freda to look after his money but Mike was burning through his first two marriages and enough cash to choke a horse.

Mike's an idiot.

That's true, but all of those things can be sold and he could get at least some of his money back.

He loses it forever when he goes to the casino.

Also remember, in the early days of the Podcast, Mike was publicly begging for cash contributions like a third-rate televangelist. To take that money and blow it at a casino is criminal.

The constant begging for money was my first hiatus from the show. Then the on air designing of TMOS hats ran me off the second time. Keep in mind that they would spend 2.5 hours a week on that. I always come back though.

I was actually more ok with them asking for donations rather than selling crap like tshirts and coffee mugs. If people wanted to help, they could just give over some cash, not be forced to buy that garbage.

Really? The merchandise might be lame but there's nothing wrong with selling those little trinkets to "monetize" the podcast.

On the other hand, Mike pleading poverty, soliciting donations, then running off to gamble it all away... that's reprehensible.

That's an incredible display of hypocrisy and arrogance that he hasn't recovered from yet. At least not in my eyes.

It's supply and demand. If people were providing money direct to the krewe for a good product, great. But when they stopped doing that, you would think the krewe would change their ways and make a better product. To provide garbage "things" like hoodies, people who don't want a thing won't buy it. You are better off asking for donations than trying to sell stuff.

The donation thing was an early indication that they had no fucking business plan for the failcast.

Friday and the bonus show were decent too. Nothing ground breaking, content-wise (Buzz thinks he "invented" granola cereal....), but everyone gets to talk and sound a lot more comfortable without LFF around. And it did seem like Rob(b) even settled down a little, maybe he is mostly trying to entertain LFF with his stupid antics. I couldn't take him "running" the show long term though.

Back in the day, when Donnie G. missed a show, and (for whatever reason) LFF had to do the show with Rob(b), you could FEEL the fear and discomfort.

Now, without LFF, the failcast gets better. Go figure.

Yes, Thursday and Friday 'casts were enjoyable listening, whodathunkit?

I guess without the bullying presence of someone always on the edge of pitching a fit they relaxed and did well. I esp. liked Buzz and Oscars' contributions; Mark was ok too.

If Mike was less of a dick to them.....well...

LFF's list of "topics" every day doesn't help either. A bunch of random nonsense scribbled down on a yellow pad does not constitute "show prep". They're usually LFF-Centric, way too much mention of TV (especially when that's all the Audio Vault usually is.) and complaining. Complaining shouldn't be a topic. Seems like without LFF, the conversation evolved much more organically and wasn't all over the place. These are things a good program director would be able to tell LFF, now he answers to no one and doesn't care if there is room for improvement.

In basketball, they call this "Ewing Syndrome." Not that LFF's anywhere near a Patrick Ewing of radio (he's more of a Harthorne Wingo of radio), but when the centerpiece of the show -- and LFF is the centerpiece because it's HIS show, and he SAYS he's the centerpiece -- goes away, other guys step up and do better, and the net result may be an improvement.

Days like this really make me miss Don Geronimo. He's home sick and Mike couldn't tell an interesting weekend story if his life depended on it.

Yes, Mike, we know... you got drunk, you gambled at the casino, injured yourself while drunk. Rerun rerun rerun. We've heard it all before, over and over.

The point is to make it entertaining. Spin a tale. Find the humor. Maybe a little irony?

Didn't Mike learn anything during those two decades with Don?

Friday's show was pretty decent Checked it out based on the comments here. Removing Mike from the fold really seemed to open things up. Robb was less of a wacky sidekick and more of a broadcaster, which made the show much better than usual. We got to hear from everyone while Ronick told his story, not just Mike dominating the discourse. Not great, but a marked improvement over the regular show.

supposedly Mike is super pissed over some of the stuff Lurch said re: FL, to the point where he's given a final warning and threatened to come down to Lurch's house and settle things mano a mano. mike's steaming mad and not going to put up with his shit much longer.

Damn, that's funnier than anything you'd hear on the podcast!

Wouldn't you say Mike's more of a "steaming pile" than steaming mad?

Lurchie would/can/will kick the LFF's fat ass if it ever comes down to a "mano a mano" confrontation. For starters all he'd have to do is tap the LFF's gimpy knee with a seven iron and O'Meara would go down hard - and remain that way - picture a turtle on it's back - until someone rented a back hoe to gently turn him on his tummy - hopefully by that time the podcast krewe would have been called in to try and get him upright.

All in all "Dunland", I'll rate your post a "D+", not up to your previous posts, we need better character development, work on spelling and punctuation as well as some fact-checking.

I'm sure today's show will be a winner, taking calls from "listeners" (i.e. chat room mutants) about True Blood. Talking about TV is one of the worst topics, just because LFF sits on his ass for hours every day watching "the magic box" doesn't mean it's conversation-worthy. Great show prep.

True. But at the same time, look at what constitutes "show prep" at WJFK, specifically LaVar and Dukes.

"What has the greater chance for long-term success, Professional LaCrosse or Professional Women's Football. What do you think, Var?"

"That's an interesting question, Chad. I must omit, it's hard to choose."

What all you imbeciles are missing talking about "last week wasn't bad" is that there is a flaw in the design.

The only thing interesting about last week was when they brought the kids in because it was different. There was an element of the unexpected.

The old Don and Mike worked because of Don's continual instinct to be working on something different. And he always seemed to sense when to open up the phone lines to the world when the conversation failed. Always an element of the unexpected.

The podcast sucks because the format sucks. Mike is red-faced to promote the podcast and when you get there you get crap. You get boring stories and television discussions and bad jokes.

Aren't we all idiots listening to something that Mike only cares about until a better opportunity comes along? In the old days, the show was the opportunity.

The funny thing is, LFF doesn't even get that he's waiting for a better opportunity. He gets The Edge gig and then phones it in for a year while bitching about his commute at 4am when there is no traffic and his "janitor's wages," which had the be exponentially more than his Failcast proceeds. He has a shot at doing play-by-play for the BoSox in Florida and then downs four beers before the interview. As Carla points out, LFF "could do more."
