But he is still stuck in a shithole, which was their point. It is not a top 20 market for radio.

That pretty much the end of the story. No one is saying Mike makes more money. Most people don't care because both are hack morning zoo guys who are no longer relevant.

Exactly. It really is sad to see how far they have fallen. It is as pathetic as Brett Favre's next comeback attempt.

Thanks WTL for the coining: "FattyShack 2"

Made me spit-take coffee, had to change shirt but laugh was well worth it.

Did anyone take note of Mikes' nose on Monday?
Something happened at TBD, Mike either fell when drunk or got into a fight drunk, they will not speak of it other than hints.

Anyone have any info?

I dunno but me thinks it was a drunk fight. He made mention that he went on an apology tour.

I listened to the podcast yesterday. It seems Mike got roaring drunk at the Big D after party. So he made an announcement that he's giving up drinking.

I'm betting the bar had to re-stock their inventory the next day.

Mike must've acted like an ass. He admitted there was some "bad behavior" but didn't want to go into details. He also said he and Carla had a talk about it (she must've read him the riot act), and he decided to give up drinking.

But asking Mike to give up drinking is like asking a fish to give up living in the water. Not gonna happen.

Unless he's getting some professional help, he has NO chance. I have (almost) zero sympathy for the LFF, but his career is NOT going well, and you have to think the booze gets him through some of that.

The booze is probably part of the problem. I wonder if Carla gave Mike an ultimatum? She might be looking for a good excuse to pull the plug on the failcast/marriage. Not that she doesn't have good reasons to already.

Sounds like is a binge drinker who uses being wasted as an excuse to lash out at people for his own shortcomings. Hopefully somebody gives him an ultimatum, but it seems unlikely since nearly everyone who surrounds him is a sycophantic mooch.

Carla HAD to have known Mike was a fairly serious alcoholic when she met (and married) him. This bender must have been pretty damn bad for her to put her foot down like that.

Don's show is really getting boring.

I've listened to the 3pm hour(Pacific time) the last two days and have found it lacking any kind of entertainment value. Yesterday at that time him & Dave were talking to some gay guy that works at the station and asking him all kinds of sexual questions, and then today was vagina talk from Cosmo magazine and the repeated use of the word "cun" in sentences followed by plenty of awkward giggling.

I'm not some kind of prude, but these guys talk about penises and vaginas a little way too much. To the point where it gets boring. It's painfully obvious there is a major lack of show-prep on Don's broadcast, and I think it's hurting him. Also hearing the same damn cut of Grant Napear laughing and saying 'oh my god' followed by an ancient CBS Radiooooooo bumper over a hundred times a day gets more than fucking annoying.

The really shitty part is that I know Don can put together a better show, but it just seems like he's "phoning it in" these days. Lame.

That's what happens when you have to fill 4 hours... I enjoy listening to Don's new show but there is usually about an hours worth that I just have to skip over. He'll get on something that is funny for a few minutes and then just beat it to death for half an hour (the god/satan voice comes readily to mind).

Don's the clear winner when it comes to stand alone talent, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the old show.

Yeah... the only thing I have to say about that is that the "gag" started earlier in the broadcast and they kept running with it... It did get a little tired... but that's part of the charm...

I tend to agree that there is a lack of show prep... Don always calls his producer out on it... I think Don makes the best of it, though...

Besides, what kind of show prep would you like? Would you like for them to interview some book author every day? Is that the kind of show prep you like?

I love when they don't have anything to do but dick around... taking phone calls and clowning on the callers.... if they don't want to take a break at that very minute, they'll keep going...

That's the stuff that the Mike O'Meara show was sorely lacking... They were on such a rigid schedule... the whole thing felt so forced...

He can put on a different show... but he's choosing to run with this style for now...

If you've been listening for any amount of time (which I doubt, since you don't even know who LaRoy is), then you'll know that this month's show is way different than the show he was putting out even 2 months ago... I'm not saying that he made a huge drastic change recently... I'm saying that the show is constantly evolving...

If you don't like it now, give it some time...

I'm sorry you care about your 80s morning zoo DJs. I did not mean to offend you. 99% of the world doesn't give a crap about them and they are irrelevant in current comedy culture. That's why the biggest thing people can throw out is that Don is doing fairly well in a market almost out of the top 30 in the US in a dying medium of talk radio. Mike is on an awful morning show and has a terrible podcast. If people here stopped listening to it, it might actually go away.

Neither of these guys are funny at all unless you are 8 and/or mentally retarded.

>>I'm not some kind of prude, but these guys talk about penises and vaginas a little way too much.

Don't you know, that's cutting edge humor if we were all living in 1986.

I agree with this. I watched that movie "Anvil: The Story of Anvil" and it really reminds me of morning zoo DJs like Mike (and Don as well): has-beens or barely-weres who still operate under the delusion that their brand of entertainment is still relevant and popular, and that it has the potential to rise back to prominance. But, just like like the late 80's thrash metal scene, the era of the highly-paid morning zoo, "hot-talk/guy-talk" format is all but dead, and if it still exists, it only exists on small-market, AM stations. Syndication of these shows is even rarer.

"But we in it shall be remembered. We happy few, we band of brothers", we of The Mike O'Meara Show Thread are on the side of Charles Darwin. The natural selection of evolving entertainment will eventually validate the 121 pages accumulated here as of today.

Thank you.

That's funny that you bring up Anvil. In the movie, the wife of Steve "Lips" Kudlow has her shit together yet supports the wanderlust of her dreamer of a husband (sounds like Don). Robb Reiner's wife (ex-wife?), on the other hand, seems angry and bitter that the glory days are past and that her husband seems aimless and unsuccessful (sounds like Mike).

Don can run a gag into the ground, which is why you have to listen to the show everyday to see what sticks to the wall.
The critiques of Don G are interesting...being as this thread is devoted to Mike.
What is he doing on the radio that is at least interesting?!?
I'll take Don's show any day.
And Howard is still the same as well I still like him too.

Totally agree with the "rigid schedule" point. One of the big turnoffs of TMOS for me is that if they are talking about anything remotely interesting (Oscar's antics mainly), they couldn't talk about it for more than about 20 minutes because Rob(b)'s audio vault (old youtube clips or dialog from "talkies") took precedence.

One of the best parts of talk radio is when the show goes off the rails. Some of my favorite moments from the old BOAD show were when they played games, prize pigs would ruin them, and Chad would then go postal for 20 minutes and play the Gladiator music. That's entertainment

Interesting, TheNorthman. It says it's compiled from Arbitron, but it uses Nielsen's (trademarked) DMA designation. Arbitron's own site has the Sacramento Market at 27.

What Nielsen takes into account that Arbitron doesn't is the surrounding areas. Smaller towns and counties, that are literally within 10, 20, 30 miles from the city limits, are counted as the "Sacramento" market for television and are seperated out for radio.

KHTK reaches from Redding down to the Fresno area, and has many listeners in the SF Bay area. None of these are not counted by Arbitron.

Still, 20th or 27th, Sacramento is a good city with awesome weather and legalized weed.

So what happens when Mike sees that BOAD sold out a live Podcast in a few hours.

Will he attempt to book Jammin Java??

If so, when he only sells 10 tickets, what happens?

The live appearances are really the saddest things. He did that bike ride right off the bat at JFK and got a small but reasonable-sized crowd if I remember right, and attendance for events went down drastically after that until this golf thing. This guy used to draw huge crowds for the D&M live shows. Now it's over. He doesn't seem able to accept it though. It's like he thinks the next one will be the big one, not some sad attempt to relive former glory.

It was particularly sad when no one showed for his second bike ride and he blamed it on the rain and they all just went to a bar and just sat around and drank, wearing all their biker gear and MOM stuff.

I really feel for Mike sometimes. To bad he seems like such an ass.

Yeah I guess your right then. I don't know a whole lot about this kind of thing.

Either way Don is much better off than Mike right now in my opinion.

Let's see if Mike can really last even a week with out the booze now and maybe he will be able to get his shit together but I doubt it very much.

BOAD's fanbase is 20-somethings who like MMA. They have nothing better to do than go to a BOAD event because they have no girlfriends.

Mike's fans are old and have families and day jobs. It's hard enough for them to drive to fucking Herndon for a SuperBowl show in a blizzard.

But Mike compounds the problem by making his few fans jump through so many fucking hoops. It's not enough to do something at a bar in Fairfax City one night. No, it's got to be a fucking motorcycle rally to a Hooters in Fredericksburg or a golf tournament in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Truth is Mike and his "brain trust" have no fucking common sense.

That's a good point. His appearances do tend to be what amount to a huge pain-in-the-ass to anyone that may even want to attend. And on top of that what was it to play golf in this thing, $100?

I can't believe that Rob is such a loser that his wife only allows him $80 of her paycheck to spend a month. What type of loser gets an $80 allowance from their wife? He couldn't even afford to go to his own golf event if he had to pay. I guess Rob speaking into a Mr. Microphone that he bought at Guitar Center for a couple hundred strangers on the internet is more important than supporting his family with a stable job.

True, but O'Meara is all about O'Meara, he's hooked up with the golf course and probably plays there for free (see attached picture from the Cameron Hills website), so what does he care - to him a rube is a rube.

On the other hand, I figured that the so-so golf course O'Meara chose for FattyShackII is 76.4 miles from my old house in Alexandria. Even if I adored O'Meara, I'd be an idiot to pay a premium event rate and drive 150 miles round trip to play golf at that golf course.

On the other, other hand, in retrospect it would have been a hoot to be at the after party and see O'Meara expose his angry, drunken self - but I wouldn't want to spend four or five hours at some shitty Hooters for five minutes of entertainment.

I've trolled this forum long enough, remembered I made this login a while ago, and have questions/comments:

1. LFF means? I can't find it's origins.

2. This is my favorite forum post of all time, regardless of topic. And I'm into some weird shit.

3. My thoughts: MoM is my 2nd "radio-show", only behind Stern who is untouchable. I think MoM would blow horribly without Oscar, but Oscar by himself blows. I don't like Chad either.

4. Junkies blow so bad; worse radio show ever. I used to like them, but they make me angry listening to them now. I can't listen to them. Where is the "I hate the Junkies" post?

5. As a point of reference I'm 31 years old.

Don't you remember? The only reason Big O and Dukes is successful is because Mike gave them his blessing. That's why they won the pointless Facebook poll.

Speaking of Chad and Oscar, I loved BO&D when they were on JFK, and their podcast was funny for a while. Now, though, all they seem to do is talk about what's happening with their annoying, nicknamed hangers on. I don't care if "Dan Creasey" went on a date with a black chick and didn't get any, or if "Sven Lloyd" enjoys sucking cock and not paying his credit card bills. That's just boring to listen to.

We are coming up on the 1 week anniversary of FattyShack II. Let me see if I can reconstruct the day.

1. MOM, bitter at having to do the event in the first place, rolls his fat ass out of bed for a Limo ride (most likely costing several hundred $$$) to a golf course in the middle if nowhere.

2. MOM is subsequently shocked when the 40-some people who are supposed to be there turn out to be 10.

3. MOM and the course turn out to be a miserable, boring and expensive experience for all.

4. Everyone then goes to a Hooters in BFE, where Mike proceeds to get drunk and belligerent with someone while whoever is left of those 10 fans get a frontrow view.

5. A lot if this is assumption on my part, but has there been any evidence to the contrary?

Just one more thing.....

There is no way LFF has the fundage to afford the limo ride. He probably drove his own car to within a mile of the golf course and had the limo pick him up on a side road, giving the illusion that he took the limo the whole way there.

And MOM is so excited about it that they didn't take photos or really talk much about the event after the fact (all photos on Facebook were from fans). It's obvious FattyShack II lived up to its namesake.

First off Mike O’Meara is a radio LEGEND, as far as I’m concerned. I’m from Iowa and Mr. O’Meara has been a radio GOD to us for about 15 years now. After losing his job at CBS (in a brutal layout), Mike took his co-horts Robb Spewak and Buzz Burbank along with him into the world of Internet Radio. Add a little latin flavor with Oscar Santa Ana, and you have a solid hour of 4 dudes just shooting the shit.

As far as I can tell, there's no cosmetic reason for that scar to be where it is. And it's certainly nowhere near the appendix. There must be a story there.

Nice job, WTL. Looking at that montage, how could Oscar not know that he was dating an attention & fame whore who would clearly cheat on him with the next "big thing": and in the low-rent entertainment hierarchy it clearly states:

Damn that's kind of sad if it's true. Oscar is out bragging about being 4th most important person on a shitty podcast????

At least BOAD is his own creation but as of now it really isn't much to brag about as it will soon be two years since they were last on terrestrial radio.

Maybe in Oscar's mind, Kara's cheating on him, highlighted his own relately low level on the celebrity hierarchy.

I'm sure Oscar used to look forward to the day he could show this photo to his and Kara's grand kids...

"Grandpa, was Grandma slutty?"

"Why, yes, Timmy, Grandma was tremendously slutty. There were these wrestlers . . . "

"Yes Timmy, Grandma was slutty but at least she could hold down a job and make more than $80 a month without being a spouse's bitch like Rob Spewak."

"Timmy, why don't you be a nice boy and let Carrie Spewak borrow that boook of ours. She needs it since she is being used like toliet paper by her husband Rob Spewak. He might like being a spouse's bitch, but that doesn't mean she has to like it."
