IIRC, Buzz (and Marc, and Lowell) were all almost maddeningly diplomatic about it, hell bent on taking the "high road." Entertaining radio be damned.

I don't know if something happened in the last year and a half or so, but the few episodes of his podcast I've caught since he started offering the live show free have been just brutal. Little Joe's a nice, enthusiastic guy, but Don just doesn't seem to turn it on if he's not playing off of a lazy, degenerate sidekick like Mike or Drew Hoffar.

The dozen or so shows after he split with RELM weren't bad either. I think it went downhill when Drew left. He had the same type of camaraderie with Drew that he had with Mike, and they played off of each other very well. Neither Phantom nor Little Joe had what it took, and Don was left trying to carry the whole show by himself.

Here's the thing about the "high road:" it leaves everyone free to assume the absolute worst happened. It suggests something SO BAD happened that there might even be a LAWSUIT if it was explicitly mentioned on-air.

In addition to wasting opportunities for entertaining content, "taking the high road" doesn't even accomplish the goal of decreasing acrimony or helping everyone move on faster. It just frustrates listeners who have been invested in the product and who, well, kinda deserve at least some explanation about what happened.

(Eh...maybe not "deserve." We are just talking about dumb podcasts put out by retarded man-children. But an explanation would be the fucking courteous thing, let's just say that.)

At least the Don "scorched earth, tell all" approach has the upside of putting everything on the table, and letting the listeners decide what they think actually happened. In the case of Don vs. RELM, it sounded to me more like Marc, Buzz and Lowell didn't really know what they were doing and were kinda cheap besides, and that Marc had carried over his ADHD-crippled business management "skills" from the TMOS days. Probably not malicious (Don's drama queen assertion that "RELM was stealing from me" aside), but probably frustrating as hell for a perfectionist with zero patience like Don.

Point being, when parties lay out their grievances in no uncertain terms like that instead of taking some nebulous "high road," we can draw the conclusions we will about what the truth is. If all parties keep mum, except for veiled or passive aggressive shots or references, we're always going to assume the worst-- like most of us still do about the Buzz/Marc/TMOS split.

Anyway.

I kinda wish Don and Mike would take a cue from what Opie and Anthony have been doing lately-- calling in to each other's shows, giving old fans a few laughs and reigniting the old chemistry, but still keeping their brands separate and not overplaying that hand.

(Think about it, Mike-- that'd be at least one segment a week you wouldn't have to do show prep! And I guarantee it'd get more eyes, er, ears on your product! Literally nothing to lose!)

RELM only took the high road because they didn't have much else to say...At the least, they were in over their head and botched the whole thing...The worst, they kept some of Don's money...Personally, I think it's a little of both...I think they went in with good intentions, but I also think they kept some of his money...There is the Ronick element(he is shady with money) and their whole"we're protecting you from yourself" stance that they were taking when they weren't pointing to the small print and Buzz wasn't accusing US of doubledipping...Don went in blind, thinking they could do everything they promised, and that is on him...There is NO WAY they could have delivered everything they promised...One of my favorite issues was Don's internet speed and Relm's solution of sending him multiple hotspots to remedy it...They really do make TMOS look like professional broadcast engineers...I also love that they took Kappys 10 G's and then sent Don Buzz's hand me down computer and they didn't even wipe it first...They found 3 year old files on there

LFF is a sidekick at best. A former mimic. Even taking his considerable laziness into account, he can't tell a story that falls into his lap well, and he interrupts and derails everyone else. And allows Fatt Rob to do even worse. LFF just doesn't have the charisma or skill to be captain of the Failboat. He rode Don's coattails, and now that he's calling the shots, it just doesn't hold up. The phone calls are a disaster, and that was one of the strong points of Don and Mike. The ADD compulsion to have news and Audio Fault segments every day comes directly from his sloth. And the fake laughing across the board is a the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

Kinda bizarre cold open has Mike telling a...uh...fuckin' riveting story about going to the Apple Store ("the land of me"), the AT&T store, and finally Best Buy, to either get the cracked screen on his current iPhone repaired or upgrade to an iPhone 7.

Robb and Oscar gamely try to discern the point of Mike's story, which, after some meandering (and a soporific side narrative from Oscar about how phone companies and carriers have changed the way the sell you phones, but not really), turns out to be that it's DECEPTIVE MARKETING to call switching to the newer phone an "upgrade," insofar as you're just...paying for a new phone.

I mean, a new phone with significantly upgraded specs from your last phone. BUT YOU'RE STILL PAYING FOR IT. So it's not really an upgrade. (Two hours of show prep, O'Mearacans.)

Then Mike wants to show off the upgraded specs of his new iPhone 7 (I mean, improved specs? Better specs? BECAUSE IT'S NOT AN UPGRADE DAMMIT), and he activates the Facebook Livecasting feature on it. He declares to his surprised Facebook friends list of 5,000 that he will continue livecasting until three hundred people are watching. In order to induce people to watch, he does impressions, and even promises that "in ten seconds he will show his nether regions."

He...doesn't get his 300 viewers.

Sadly, I don't. I kept up with the awkward Dropbox/Content Shelf way RELM had set up the downloads for DGS, but after he switched over to UStream, mine was one of the dozens of subscriptions for which the new password didn't work. After waiting in line for weeks to get one that actually worked, I kinda gave up, figuring it no particularly great loss-- I'd sort of had my fill of Don dragging ex-colleagues by that point anyway.

Don't get me wrong, no one drags ex-colleagues like Don Geronimo, but having another dramatic professional divorce so soon after the KHTK meltdown kinda strained the suspension of disbelief re: "maybe it's not that Don's impossible to work with, maybe he just is always getting screwed, poor guy!"

Since the RELM split, though, Don has rarely had a technical problem.

Oscar has taken out the radiators/boiler, knocked at least two holes in his chim-a-ney, taken out a built-in bookcase and knocked a hole in the wall behind it, taken out his un-vented dryer, destroyed century old brick patio with a pressure washer...what did I miss?

So...I know Mike's an old man. Relatively speaking, anyway.

But for some reason, Mike's old-ness really hit me during the first few segments of today's show.

I mean, I first kinda noticed it when the boys were taking phone calls, and Mike seemed perfectly content to make meandering chitchat with Joel the Pilot. "What kind of equipment are you flying?" is the kind of question you'd expect grandpa to ask a stranger in a pilot's uniform while waiting in line somewhere. I mean, perfectly pleasant, sure, but, like, it's a radio show, man.

That was kind of the feel during most of the calls today (with the exception of the dude who spaced out and whose call was terminated by Mike with extreme prejudice)-- Mike seemed like an old man who was somewhat pleasantly surprised that so many nice people just called to say hello. (Oscar does what he can to insert entertainment value by stirring shit. But even then Mike's like, "Ohhh, don't let this young whippersnapper getcha in trouble, Joel!")

Grandpa Mike was again on display as he ranted about a Facebook meme that, to my recollection, has been around for...years, maybe? It's the thing where your parents see something inflammatory online, and you're in the position of having to explain that not everything you see on Facebook is true. Which, of course, Mike acknowledged by doing a full 180 and decrying all of the false and misleading information out there on social media (promptly after proclaiming he was "all in" on a boycott of Jimmy John's because of the heartlessness of its big-game hunting owner).

A disinterested, slightly pissy Mike ribbing Robb for going to the Renaissance Festival (and Robb obviously kinda having been into it, his protestations to the contrary) kinda worked. Robb stories seem to work a little better when he's unapologetically into his random hobbies, and not trying to pretend that he, like Mike and Oscar, finds them silly (i.e., "I was just there because Julia needed a ride, and everyone else bailed on me").

(Robb acknowledging during caller-time that membership in the "Mobb" required an intense hatred of Oscar did make me chuckle.)

Mike doing the news...oof, I'd kinda hoped we'd moved past Mike's need to fill the Buzz Void. That story about Chelsea Handler calling Angelina Jolie a "lunatic" has definitely been around for awhile. The "honor theft" story was kinda funny...I dunno, maybe the bit would be more tolerable if he stuck to random, bizarre, "news of the weird" kinda stuff. Like, made the "sumpthin sumpthin" the whole bit.

I will concede: one of the reasons I was avoiding TMOS generally, and lately in particular, was my certainty that he'd be talking politics. The two shows I've caught since listening again (it's kinda like homework, in order to have something to post on FFXU) have been blessedly politics-free. I remember when time was, "We don't really get into politics on this show" was the code or, "Get ready for twenty-plus minutes of Full Liberal Mike."

Up until say the past year plus, I really enjoyed Mike, but he and Robb's over the top liberal bias has been ridiculous.

While I consider myself I progressive conservative, I don't push my beliefs onto others. I feel often Mike and Robb are way over the top. Well, let's just say Mike does and Robb just follows along.

Also, I do enjoy Oscar on the show at least he constantly pokes at Robb.

Mike impressions often all sound the same, maybe I just always thought they were better on the radio, or he may in fact have just gotten lazier.

I also, have noticed the show is basically just rinse and repeat, which is sad, because it could be a good formula, but it has just been blah lately, more or less for at least the past 6 months.

So, opening bit, talk about something that is usually late (since they always never seem to be current), Mike's yahoo news, then I skip to the Sports Junkies. I never listen to the Audio Vault, because its just not funny.

The only time I enjoyed the Audio Vault was with the Stupid Goats talking.

To be honest like I said it's just a filler podcast that I listen to while I eat my lunch.

My listening schedule is:

1. Jim and Sam show in morning
2. TMOS around lunch
3. Sports Junkies (podcast only) till 3pm
4. Opie Show for about an hour
5. Anthony Cumia from 4-6 and then home

I was a fan of Don and Mike, and at the end of the day, enjoy Mike and Oscar.

As for your new, i.e., today's, opinion of TMOS, what took you so long? This thread has been filled for years with your recent realization that it's rinse and repeat crappy content.

It would be ratings gold, or at least mica. Robb Haters would return to enjoy it, the call would go out to Robb Mobbers to rush to his defense. Either way, more downloads, more interest, more typical guy-talk (hi, I Hate Peekza) ball-busting conflict. Mike does not get it. And it would save him from at least 20-30 minutes of his yahoo news prep per day.
