Nah, I could have easily registered another screen name, or probably figured out a way to recover my password. As I say, it was more just due to...well, the shows weren't terribly entertaining (even in the so-bad-it's-fun-to-shit-on way that FFXU'ers love), hadn't been for awhile, and posting on FFXU kinda got decontextualized and less fun since I'd basically stopped listening. For a second, I thought maybe doing the podcast would kind of reignite my interest in it all, but I found myself literally forgetting to check FFXU or listen to TMOS for days at a time...which turned into weeks...and, weirdly, neither left a particular hole in my life. So it all just kinda slid off the radar.

I got curious about the thread a couple weeks ago, when I realized the live stream of Don's show was now being offered free. And came back to find...Mr. Thickness? Table Menu?

That is to say...our trolls gloriously making the point that we've always held to be our Prime Directive: no one can make this thread any more retarded than it is, because it's still-- say it with me!-- a dumb thread about a dumb podcast that was spun off from a dumb radio show.

Anyway. So, having listened to the opening segment of today's show, minus Mike, plus Adam Ferrara, I'm...confused. All this time, I'd assumed Mike was essentially pretty funny, or at least I gave him the benefit of the doubt from the Don and Mike years; and Oscar's, you know, reasonably funny, in kind of a self-aware, douchey kind of way; but it was Robb's promotion to an always-open mic that was kinda ruining things. But the opening segment today was, like, staggeringly listenable-- and, no joke, Robb actually contributed to it.

I know, right? Not "didn't ruin it;" like, from his snarky "glad to see you contributing" shot at Oscar, to his actually appropriate questions to Ferrara, he didn't fucking cackle, he didn't descend into idiot queen shtick, he was actually a human being. I mean...I dunno, maybe it's just the contrast to what normally happens, maybe I'm giving him too much credit. It was fuckin' weird.

I'm not into cars, but that segment was an example of how to discuss something that not everybody's into, in a way that's entertaining. The contrast to the boys fangirling over the fighter pilot earlier this week is stark.

Could it be that Robb just turns into, well, Robb when Mike's about, and he falls into doing his "show for one?" Or maybe he's just having an off day?

OWS, you can see why many assumed someone on Mike's behalf had taken you up on your invite to email you and suggested you make yourself and VH scarce...the timing was striking.

Nicely stated about LFF's interviewing style.

OWS - Mike is not funny by himself. He is an excellent second banana as the years of the Don & Mike Show proved. If this were jazz music, he'd be the sideman who can take a 60 second solo and cut anybody on stage but can't front a band for shit.
Think that episode of SCTV where John Candy's "Wliiam B. Williams" character tried to run the "Sammy Maudlin Show" without Sammy Maudlin. Train wreck territory.
What's really funny, and I think Don saw it, is that Spew-yak isn't even a second banana to a second banana - third banana perhaps, fourth banana if you multiply. Globb can do assigned duties and throw in maybe one line per day that might cause someone to laugh. But he is just fucking at sea when he has to rely on any shred of native intelligence.

Of course most of the credit for the successful interview goes to the interviewee.
