Hey Mike!

I think it's about time that you pack up bags at WJFK and go back to playing music videos in that Rockville nightclub - just like back in 1984.

Good. I'm glad there is still some form of comedy in DC. Lord knows it's certainly not MOM these days.

Will BUZZ be doing his great sex rant at Bungalow's this weekend? The one where he drunkenly grabs the mic and describes in detail "fisting some pussy?" I thought some people were going to throw up.

How I'd Fix WJFK - 2/3 - Rant. OK. It doesn't look like CBS guy talker WJFK is going to be making any miraculous recovery in its slumping Portable People Meter radio ratings any time soon, if the first dribble of numbers from January is any indication. Stuck in 21st. So, here's what I do to "fix" it. Start calling it "Sports & More 106.7." Put Mike O'Meara's show, just as it is, in morning drive. It's more of a traditional "zoo" show and would better compete with Kane on Hot 99.5, Jack Diamond on Mix 107.3, and Elliot on DC101. Keep the MO'M show just as "broad-based" as it is. Then, crank up the sports talk at 10 AM. Keep Big O and Dukes in middays, and move the Junkies to afternoons, and make both heavily sports-oriented. BO&D know sports, and the Junks started out as the "Sports Junkies." Easy to do. Cultivate a new evening, youth-oriented sports show, and nab all the sports play-by-play you can get. Flesh out the weekends with sports, too. Local and national. JFK already has Maryland and Virginia college sports, it could nab the Nationals next year, and maybe the Wizards and Capitals in future seasons. Then take 1580, make it WJFK-AM, "Sports & More 1580," and put a national sports network feed on it, and use it as 106.7's sports "overflow." Like what CBS has done in Baltimore with 105.7 and 1300. UPDATE: I hear that JFK did show a significant PPM uptick in the male age 25-54 demo for early January, but I still think the above changes would be beneficial.

He fails to point out that Arbitron removed the Baltimore stations from the PPM results. That's why there is "a significant PPM uptick," because they took Rock 98 off of the list.

Yup the Monkey bar was silenced quickly as people looked at each other wondering what the hell was going on. At first people thought it some strange joke, but Buzz just kept going with more details like an "America's Grossest Porn." Needless to say it cleared the remaining women out of the bar.

He can't come back with anything and DCRTV isn't running anything because the commitment is verbal. He probably has to get his PPM numbers to a certain point by his anniversary date (May) to get the extension.

It won't happen.

The bottom line is that some of us continue to listen to the MOS because it's the only thing on in the time-slot. I listen to it in the office and during my drive home. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE ON TO LISTEN TO. I cant listen to songs over and over again, hence, there are no alternatives. I will continue to listen to the MOS until it is pulled off the air (which I do believe will happen sooner or later). Will I be happy if it is replaced with all-sports talk? The answer is no, because I dont enjoy that either. Will I be happy if it was replaced by Howard Stern or Ron and Fez or Opie or Anthony (or anything in a similar format), the answer is YES!!!! But until that happens, I will continue to listen, and will reap great enjoyment in utilizing this forum to complain about it. This is an endless source of entertainment and joy for me (p.s. I usually do it while listening to Mike on the radio)....

Oh, this should help O'Meara's ratings....

Columbia MD-based radio ratings Arbitron is launching a campaign to get more African-Americans and Hispanics to participate in its new Portable People Meter electronic ratings system. Dubbed "Feet On The Street," the program will have bilingual Arbitron reps knocking on the doors of newly-recruited blacks and Latinos, ages 18-to-34, in the top 10 PPM radio markets, including DC, by the end of April.

ding ding ding. traffic and weather don't change enough in 10 minutes to necessitate the barrage of updates on wtop. i'd like to see big o and dukes in the drive time slot.

mike can always get work as a voice guy. he'll move to florida where no one (outside of tampa) knows his voice and hawk asscream to retirees or something. i feel bad for that fat semitalented bastard, but i can't take any more 'the power of 5", katie's special thought of the day, or 'we'll be right this after back'.

You'd better listen today! O'Meara's guest is a guy who wrote a book about George Carlin and Richard Pryor. Nothing is more entertaining than a journalist from New York describing a book he has written about dead comedians.

How can you find a guy hawking a book about dead comedy?

This seems like a great venue for Dirk Simmons to promote his book about Wicans Witches. Does anybody have a way to contact Dirk?

I'm leaving this message for Mike because he usually gets on here around 10pm. That's because after his show is done at 7pm, it takes him about an hour or so to drive to Manassas from Rockville (maybe more). You figure he has to have a beer or eight before dinner, which is between 8:30 and 9pm. It takes him nearly an hour to feed his fat ass, while he sits there and blathers on to Karla about this shit or that. So, you figure, by 10pm he is ready to get his drunken ass on his computer and scream at anonymous posters who have him figured out.

Anyway, I made a mistake earlier when I said Mike's interview with the guy who wrote the book about dead comedians wasn't going to be funny. That's because Mike told the guy, "I'm not looking to bash him, but I think Jay Leno is fake. I think he sold out."

Coming from Mike. Seriously. From Mike, the fucking sell out.

I laughed, and laughed and laughed!

Mike knows about FFU because of Don's issues with the site over Freda. This thread has been going since the beginning of his show. He has been on the air bitching about people on the Internet complaining about him.

I have no doubt O'Meara comes on this site. Just like he goes to DCRTV.

Don flipped out on the air about this website a few years ago, to the point where legions of fans flooded the forum and got it knocked offline, and some of the regulars here got threatening phone calls.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mike or some off the WJFK staff still lurk here.

Mike is too egotistical for that. I mean, I'm sure Don, who made his career for 25 years, gave him ample solid advice on his way out. Mike obviously ignored all of it.

He is stealing. He is stealing from Jack Diamond. The problem is WJFK is a male-centric format and Jack Diamond is geared toward 43-year-old women who have very low IQs.

Guessing today's show. Start with Mike bitching, Rob comforts him. The guest is some obscure C list celebrity. Maybe somebody who managed someone in the 60's. Then some loser game like, the number 3; each player must answer a question to get to three. If there is a wrong answer then no point is given. Beth Ann will showup for five minutes and leave. Buzz will agree with everything.

C-list? Hell, I would LOVE to hear a C-list celebrity. A C-list celebrity would be Jane Curtin or Katey Sagal.

No, Mike prefers to feature people nobody has ever heard of. They don't even rise to the level of a D-list or F-List celebrity. They are nobodies. And, unlike Don who knew how to lambaste "nobodies" by mocking their delusions of grandeur, Mike treats them like they are fucking Steven Spielberg.

There is nothing to be gained. Just like there is nothing to be gained by doing a shitty show or going on rants on the air about bad ratings.

The reason I think he is posting comments on here is because some of the comments are incredibly caustic and defensive. They come off as very, very personal.

Mike doesnt even realize that his show has turned into one big free infomercial for all those authors and "celebrities" hawking their wares (books, appearances, tv shows). They want us to believe that they had to go out of their way to "book" these fabulous guests. That's why these celebs have PR and management firms: to find lame radio stations that have no format or identity that fill valuable air time with free promo's for them. That's not booking a guest. That's booking a free radio commercial. What a bunch of dopes....

I feel compelled to repeat, the main problem with TMOMS is Robb (pretentious 2nd 'b'). He thinks hes f***ing funny and he actually believes that knowing things about television in the 60's and 70's makes him intelligent, while he's painfully unfunny and a complete dumbass. Ratings poison. Straight up.

Based on the caliber of the guests Mike is getting, many would never be in the DC market, much less on the FM side of the dial, if it weren't for Beth Ann's lazy ass.

When was MOS "excellent," "edgy," or "entertainment?" Even if you're talking about the old D&M show (which I really liked), I'd only give you two out of three.

So you are saying Cop Rock was a great TV show even though the ratings sucked and the critics panned it. Is that correct? Because all things are relative, right? It's not possible that a movie can be a bomb at the box office because if three people liked it, it was a good movie. Correct?

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be canceled or that the rest of us can't point out its suckiness. And before you say, "If you don't like it, don't listen," if you don't like our criticisms, don't come to this Forum.

You can argue tastes and opinions, but you can't argue the cold hard facts. The fact is Mike O'Meara is last, or close to last in every market he is in. Even if everyone on this board had a change of heart and started listening again, it wouldn't be enough people to budge him out of last or close to last place.

What it will always boil down to is what the market thinks and what the ratings are. Right now, the market thinks he sucks.

See here's how it really works:

There are about 35 haters who post nasty shit on here and come up with bogus death dates for the show. Anyone who dares post anything positive or even question the negativity is accused of being a JFK employee posing as a fan, or even an actual member of the show. Meanwhile, the show continues to be on the air, continues to put out quality entertaining programming, continues to put on sucessful apperances...and lo and behold, looks like even the all-important ratings that all 35 haters love to claim are the end all be all took a swing up. So all 35 angry stains can rant and rave (and secretly listen to fuel their idiocy) and the millions of actual fans will continue to listen and enjoy across the country. In three weeks the retards on here will have dreamed up some new date that the show wont be on anymore, and that date will come and go too. I mean, how many times in the last year have we done this dance. You few hate the show, as is your right. You obviously listen enough to spew stupidity. Quite clearly enough people listen and enjoy that MoM, as well as the rest of JFK, continue to get it done. They're on. They ain't going anywhere. It makes you mad. That makes us happy.

First, Mike, I know it is you because nobody uses the term "stain" anymore except you (you say it on the air all of the time). You don't want management knowing you are coming on here posting some of the shit you have posted.

Second, WJFK's share for the market is 1.7. That means you have 71,000 people listening to your station. Not millions. 71,000. That is PITIFUL for a market this size. For comparison, Jack Diamond, who almost lost his job a few months back, has 113,000 listeners.

Face it, Mike, when you lose it on the air and start screaming about your ratings, we all know you are done in this market.

Nothing if not predictable, loser. Once again...NOT Mike. Not sure how much more clear I can make that. And preach on about the ratings and what a difference they make...as the show continues on the air, continues with promotions, continues to give-away vacations...thanks for proving my point, ass.

And as for people who use the word "stain", not only do the people ON the show use it, but so do the people who LISTEN to the show. But again, you knew that, didn't you?

Well the show didn't have a huge turnout at Bungalows Friday night. They did pack the Monkey bar but no line to get into the bar. A little sad when it is being promoted as babe in birthday suits and a girls 21st birthday.

Looks like the show is starting to bottom out.

Mike,

A quick suggestion for Buzz. A lot of his 'breaking' news is usually taken from 24 hr. old fark posts www.fark.com. It is pretty obvious to those of us surfing the web. How about having him report them from the same day at least - that would be interesting to those listening in a car as presumably they are not surfing while in transit.

Sorry to say I do not listen much anymore. I used to love your impressions but you cannot be both straghtman and funny character at the same time. Too bad Rob has painted himself as a non-serious character - this makes him unavailable for you to play off of. Further, he comes off as eager to crack-wise yet never has anything of his own to say - pretty one dimensional.

I am glad you can make a living that is cool. I just miss the old show and for that matter I miss any good show during your air time.

That is a pathetic-looking turnout considering...it was a bar on a Friday night!

I would venture to guess that most of those guys would have been there regardless of the promotion. And look at those guys! What a bunch of fucking losers! What advertiser is vying for them??

These were the good ol' days, weren't they Mike?

(From 2006) In other developments during the ratings period:

ยท WJFK-FM's post-Howard Stern reconstruction proceeded apace. The biggest winners might have been afternoon drive-time cut-ups Don & Mike, who bounded from a dismal No. 15 in the January-to-March quarter to No. 4 in the latest survey. D&M also finished second among listeners 25 to 54 years old, and first among men.

You can't sue for libel when someone says your ratings suck and they do.

By the way, if this is really Michael Hughes (which I doubt), why wouldn't your lawyer be sending a "cease and desist" to Cary? That's typically how these things are done.

So you admit that the entire point of this forum is "to bash", not "to discuss". And if someone disagrees, they should start their own forum.

What he's saying is that, in the same way we can change the dial to avoid listening to a shitty radio station, you can go to another website where they are huge fans of the show.

The opinion of "show sucks, cancel it" has just as much validity as "show rules, keep it." There's just more people of the former mindset here.

No. I like people who come to this forum to defend the show and who get mad when we point out how flawed their arguments are.

I have recently discovered this website and it is extremely enjoyable. Everyone, keep up the good work! The post from "Michael Hughes" was great. I used to listen to the Don and Mike show for years but moved out of the DC area. This site gives me a chance to catch up on what's going on. I have tried listening to the MOM podcasts on the Web site but am finding this forum far more entertaining.

Mike was a horrible sidekick to Don and it's surprising that he even has 71,000 listeners right now. Mike has to be going out of his mind that Jack Diamond of all people is killing him in the ratings and it shows from his postings on this forum. I'm sure Mike has many listeners that tune into his show and actually enjoy it but unfortunately, it's all about ratings and advertising bucks. In a way, it's really not Mike's fault because he has been put in a "no win" situation.

After looking through these pictures - it's obvious that Mike, Rob and especially Buzz are old men out of sync with the younger listeners. You can tell just looking at the pictures. It's time for WJFK to improve their ratings and try to bring in younger radio celebrities to connect with the party crowd. This small crowd has to try to relate to a bunch of gray, ugly, fat, old radio personalities. The Mike O'Meara show needs to stay inside the studio or retire. This was sad.
