Few journeys were more satisfying than exiting Manhattan by water shuttle on summer afternoons, rumbling northward on the sparkling water beneath bridges clogged with honking, frustrated drivers. It was a half-hour time-out from the urban rat race -- a commute so calming it felt stolen and vaguely illegal. And from the water, whether one was leaving or arriving, the Apple's skyscrapers looked as magical as they're supposed to in songs and old movies. The water shuttle made you want to be a part of it, just like Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli. Even if you hate bagels and Rudy Giuliani.

And now all that's gone! Stolen! Downsized!

"We were unable to reach agreement with our service provider," said a spokesman for Delta, which inherited the water shuttle when it took over the Pan Am shuttle 10 years ago. The percentage of Delta Shuttle passengers using the Delta Water Shuttle wasn't the question. Yet again another of your typical attempts to weasel-word your bullshit.

The question was who made up the passengers of the Delta Water Shuttle. The answer is that it was virtually 100% Delta Shuttle passengers. It NEVER operated as a general commuter service as you claimed. There was/is little to no infrastructure in place to move general commuters to the Marine Terminal where it landed.

Whether it was a success wasn't the question. It was not without the subsidy by Delta. That is why it never operated without Delta subsidizing its operation. And why it ended when Delta stopped subsidizing it.

As reflected in the Post article and multiple other sources, it was the same service with a different operator run for Delta as a Delta-branded service for customers of and promotional purposes for the Delta Shuttle. They simply eliminating mid-day runs which also were very light times for customers of Delta's air Shuttle operation. Again from the City-wide Ferry Study:

Few journeys were more satisfying than exiting Manhattan by water shuttle on summer afternoons, rumbling northward on the sparkling water beneath bridges clogged with honking, frustrated drivers. It was a half-hour time-out from the urban rat race -- a commute so calming it felt stolen and vaguely illegal. And from the water, whether one was leaving or arriving, the Apple's skyscrapers looked as magical as they're supposed to in songs and old movies. The water shuttle made you want to be a part of it, just like Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli. Even if you hate bagels and Rudy Giuliani.
