So you got Robinson ranked 4th in the region but then say they are not good?

I think the 6A north region will be wide-open this fall season. The usual suspects will be near the top: Westfield, Robinson, South County, Lake Braddock, Centreville, Battlefield. But I do not think it is a slam-dunk that Westfield is the favorite.

They do have a number of players returning but the very best of the last few years are gone (particularly they will miss Scanlon and Aiello). They have a number of new coaches also.

I think Centreville will be a lot better – I look for them to show improvement and be a contender.

Was at the opening yesterday. Saw a lot of great talent.

I'll cover some of the players from 6A North. Andrew Park (Braddock TE/MD Commit) did not compete. APB Lamont Atkins (Braddock) tested well and did well in the competitions. Corey Thomas (Chantilly) Impressed. Big Target with soft hands. John Daido (Oakton) TE was knocked around in 1 on 1s. He's simply 40 pounds underweight. Jameel Siler (Centreville) didn't see much of him. When I did he performed well. Cville definitely can be a contender next year.

SoCo Total offense 511 yds Lake B 299
SoCo 27 first Downs LB 16
SoCo 276 yds rushing LB 168
SC pass 16-25 233 1 TD LB 9-19 166 1 TD
LB won the first qtr was up 27-7 and SC woke up and dominated the mid of 2nd qtr thru the end of OT.

LB had 2 big plays a Kickoff return and 1 big run up middle by Mansaray on a blown assignment. If LB out played SC I would be happy to be outplayed like that.

Both looked solid. Johnson looked good in particular. Seemed to get along well with Thomas in 1 on 1s. Dillon Spalding looked like a grown man. He looked good as well.

Let's not put too much value in to these camps with no equipment on. Many of the regions best football players aren't anywhere near those camps. You think scanlon and Aiello from WF were at that stuff last year? No. It has no bearing on the 2016 football season

I'll second that emotion. These camps remind me of the South Korean's that KILL it on a driving range but have never set foot on an actual golf course.

Passing camps and 7 on 7s have a tendency to teach QBs to take more time than they will have in a live fire game and to throw through passing lanes that aren't going to be there in a live fire game.

nice to see the actual height/weight and real #'s on these guys

Spalding is a great example of an athlete who doesn't "TEST" well notice 3 scores absent who is actually only 6' - 1" whom performs far better on the field.

compare him to Frimpong who scores very well, yet has not contributed on the field any where near Spalding.

Then take an athelete like Kroll who scored really Low comparatively, not a team in the State that wouldn't chose him over just about any other line-man.

Bernacchi scored decent for a Norhtern Region Line-man.

Nothing eye popping on Muskett and/or Johnson other than Johnson's 5+ second 40. and non-existent vertical.

Put the pads on and Play Boys!

You really went out on a limb there. A bold pick. Can you elaborate on why you think so other than they did last year? I don't really see that they are particularly loaded up with any great talent. Don't you think Centreville has a chance to make a good run at it?

Sorry I didn't clarify. I believe Westfield will win the NR because they have atleast 10-15 players who made significant contributions returning. Additionally they had an undefeated JV which let up only 18 points all year and a freshmen team that literally blew out everyone they played. And like always have one of the best coaching staffs out there. Centreville might be a playoff team but won't be contending for the NR title because I'm pretty sure all of their teams were mediocre last year. Their rising seniors are a decent class, however, their rising juniors are mediocre, and their rising sophomores struggled heavily against some Concorde schools as freshmen, but I believe they had a few injuries, but I'm not sure. What stands out is their 50-3 loss against Westfield's freshman. But hey, anything can happen.

There will probably be 4 players from Westfield's freshman team this past season that will move up to varsity and contribute. There are a few others that will suit up Friday nights but not play much if at all unless the games a blowout.

I'd have to agree that Westfield is the favorite this year.

Here's my way too early prediction for how the conferences will shake out:

Concorde:
1. Westfield
2. Robinson
3. Centreville
4. Oakton
5. Chantilly
6. Herndon

Liberty:
1. South Lakes
2. Madison
3. Langley
4. Hayfield
5. Fairfax
6. Yorktown
7. Washington-Lee
8. McLean

Patriot:
1. Lake Braddock
2. South County
3. West Springfield
4. West Potomac
5. Annandale
6. Woodson
7. TCW
8. Mt. Vernon

Westfield football runs in about 4 year cycles.

2000 – first year of football
2003 – state champions
2007 – state champions
2011 – were on track to at least make it to states but bad luck in NR title game kept them out – probably best Westfield team to not win a title
2015 – state champions

be interesting to see if the coaches/players are still hungry after making it over the hump. they have never won a regional title the year after they made it to states.

didn’t really think this year’s state title team was one of the better group’s Westfield has had – but they seemed to be mentally tougher than some in the past and they played like a team.

Not really a cycle. 2003 and 2007 were the Glennons' senior years and the best Westfield team not to win it all was 2006 no doubt.

To piggyback off this Turner Royster arguement. Go look at how many carries AJ had. Never really touched the ball more than 8 or 10 times a game. Royster was getting the ball every play. He had Eddie Royal, Glennon, Corrum, the list goes on. All played in the NFL at some point. I dont think you can say that AJ's Centreville "team" had a better cast. The 2013 Centreville team was never challenged. They never played in a second half, except in the State Semi's (Which was still a blowout) and the state championship.

I think the question was who had a better high school career. And I think you just answered the question.

to be accurate the Glennon that played with Royster did not play in the NFL neither did Corum.

Sean Glennon played with Royal, Mike Glennon played with Roster.

Sean Glennon was on a couple rosters in pre-season I believe.

Mike Glennon is an NFL quarterback on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Evan Royster was a freshman at Westfield in 2002 - played WR. Sean Glennon was QB. In 2003 - his sophomore year he played RB. Sean was SR QB and they won the state title. In Royster's JR year of 2004, Val Arduini played QB. 2005 was Royster's SR year and the QB was mostly Josh Witmer although Mike Glennon did get some playing time as a SO.

Wow. This thread is getting boring...

Oscar Smith has 9 games scheduled for 2016. Who wants to take on the Tigers? Current open dates 8/26 & 9/9...Damatha Backed out... St. Francis backed out....

I bet OS doesn't want to see Westfield ever again after what they did to them this year.

The State Championship game was a thriller. A rematch would likely get Nationally televised. I would love to see Westfield in the 757 in December: that would be great! Almost the entire Smith team Is returning next year AND is now Coached by Bill Dee. Both teams could be early favorites to be back to the State Game in December, Let's hope.

why would Westfield have to come down to the 757, does that tilt the playing field in there favor or something.

Westfield would love to be playing OS in December. That would be for the state title. As FYI - 6A state championship has been moved from UVA/Charlottesville to Hampton U/Hampton.

Interesting fact is that Smith is about 180 miles from C'Ville. That's the same distance Westfield would have to travel to Hampton U. should they play in the State title game. Westfield is only about 95 miles from C'Ville.

I hope Hampton U. will hold everyone. The Southern Regional Finals that have been at the VA Beach Sportsplex have had big enough crowds to fill that stadium.

U. of Richmond would have been a more neutral sight and able to handle the crowds better.

Nonetheless, even if the game was played on the eastern shore, they would be worth traveling to see Smith vs Westfield play each other again.

I have a very good feeling that there are going to be several major upsets this year that will shock a lot of people. Yes indeed, I do believe that this season will be one to remember.

OK, I'll go ahead and ask... What makes you certain about the big upsets? Big transfers are usually connected to such big dreams, but with the powerhouse teams the transfers don't assure failure or success.

Last year Smith had 3 Div I recruits transfer out & still nearly won the State Title. The perennial contenders have a winning culture that is bigger than the selfish kids that leave the program..

Upsets, are character Builders...and If you respond properly you get rewarded properly...They still have to line up and Play the Game. Just Ask South County I am certain they would have rather defeated Westfield in Week 14 as opposed to week 2!

Robinson
Lake Braddock
West Potomac
Westfield
Centreville

Will all be in the Mix, a few Div. 5 Schools will outplay a few Div. 6 schools.. and the Winner will make the drive to Hampton!

Please tell me why West Po is on this list.... But anyways, don't wanna ruin the surprise, but there are some things in the making that for the 6A division that I'm very confident will make for an exciting and action-packed fall. :)

So, are you saying that you are predicting:

- Herdon to win Concorde
- McLean to win Liberty
- Mt. Vernon to win Patriot
- Stonewall Jackson to win Conference 8
- TJ to win conference 13?

Those would all qualify for surprises.

I'd have to think Falls Church would be decent regardless of this. I'd think they would be easily in the top three in Conference 13, together with Wakefield and Marshall. It's hard to see Stuart, Lee, Edison, or TJ posing much competition.

Mt Vernon, the great things your hearing about Mt. Vernon is coming from Mt. Vernon themselves and no one else. Stop writing your own press clippings, let alone reading them and passing them off on non suspecting folks

Who gives a fuck about some niggers running up and down a field three months from now?
A few of them, although barely literate, will go on to play at some college where they will do what they want for four years, including doing no work, smoking dope regularly, and sexually assaulting women.

I agree. Normally, I'd call a game like this a blowout for Chantilly, but Chantilly is losing a lot from last year's class, and I think that gives Woodson a chance
