They probably blew over a .15 or .20, which triggers mandatory jail time. A child in the car enhances the penalty to mandatory community service and additional fines, but no mandatory incarceration.

Juveniles can pre-pay the same prepayable offenses that adults can, but the payment needs to be accompanied by a notarized statement from the parent or legal guardian showing that they were aware of the offense. However, if this is a first offense, you should not pre-pay so that you can avail yourself to the deferred judgment.

Go to court. Do not prepay. If you prepay, you are found guilty with no chance for it to be continued to be dismissed. Your insurance will not go up if the judge does this, because it will never go on your record.
