After 14 years, why is my 82mph in 55mph(reckeless driving) ticket from 1994 still on my DMV record?

Back in 1994, I received a 82mph in 55mph(reckless driving) ticket on I-66 about
15 miles west of Mannasas. Went to court, paid the fine... I have not received
any other traffic ticket since then. If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that
said these types of tickets only stay on the DMV driving record for 11 years.

Imageine my surprise today when I was getting my driver's license renewed and
decided to get a copy of my driving record. That ticket from 1994 is still
there. Even the DMV employee sounded surprised. I was the only 3 people
left and all the employees seemed more eager to go home. I took the driving
record and my new license... then went home.

What should I do now? Did the DMV change the rules and say these tickets have
to remain after beyond 11 years?

I would suggest shutting the fuck up.

Trade in your license for another state's, preferably one that doesn't have reciprocity with VA.

Possibly a mistake that they can remedy. I'm not sure but could be because it is a misdemeanor. Best bet, ask them, . Which means you have to call Richmond. I had one from like 95 which was reckless and it is gone

All states have reciprocity due to the Interstate Compact.

Read the friggin report and you may possibly find the answer.

I don't know about VA - but in Maryland they categorize driving offenses that are reported to insurance companies, law enforcement and the like and older offenses that are listed for only you to see and are not reported. Usually these offenses are expired or non moving violations.

Insurance companies, when they check your record will only go back a few years. For instance - if they really want your business they will ASK YOU about violations and accidents three years back. If they don't want or need your business, they will ask about 5-7 years of driving history. Whether or not the DMV can provide the information going back x number of years is a matter of law and you can research that yourself.

Well perhaps I meant reciprocity as it pertains to certain things. For instance when I was in the military I was snagged for 82 in a 55, reckless driving. I had a NY license and paid the fine but was given no points on my license. Still have it on my VA abstract though.

Reckless driving is usually a 6-point ticket and is just below a DUI in terms of its impact on your insurance rates. The severity of the violation could have something to do with it still being on your record. Your permanent record.

Wrong. Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon and Wisconsin do not participate in reciprocity.

Also, its called the Driver License Compact idiot.
