Drove that route on Sunday. You really have to drive defensively and pay attention. All the points made by OP are true. People waiting to the last second to dart over to the exit lane is a major problem at most Beltway and 66 exits. Its also a problem at the Telegraph Rd. exit on 236. There are a plethora of high rise apartments in Crystal City. They can also live across rt 1 in Delray. Plenty of apartments and townhouses that are older, but still nice. A small efficiency apartment of South Glebe Rd can be had for $1,000/month. Or they can live with room mates in older houses in Arlington, near the metro.
