I sure do remember that! What a blast from the past! Seems like it was yesterday!

While we're looking back... Do you remember the summer of '94 when Mike was at the wheel driving the white Bronco down the 405 freeway to Brentwood to drop O.J. Simpson off at the house? Talk about crazy stuff! And the whole thing was televised nationwide for everybody to see! Thank god Mike assisted in O.J.'s defense with the dream team of Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey and Robert Kardashian. I remember Johnnie graciously thanking Mike for his expert legal assistance at the post-aquittal verdict press conference. It's rumored that they all went out for drinks that night at Chasen's on Beverly in West Hollywood and Mike was able to drink F. Lee Bailey under the table... that must have been something to see!

It's said that Robb stayed back at O.J.'s mansion that night while the other guys were out drinking and he impressed houseboy Kato Kaelin with his 1960's TV trivia knowledge. Apparently Robb left such an indelible impression on Kato, that he and Kato are still close friends to this very day. Slackers stick together I guess.

As for Buzz, story has it that he had a torrid three-way with Zsa Zsa Gabor and Ernest Borgnine that weekend! Supposedly Leonard Nimoy has the pics!

Amazing stuff!!!

Didn't they have some guy on there talking about a seasonal beer thar you could only buy at his place and that wasn't being made anymore? Yeah, that was great.

Hint for Mike, Howard Stern doesn't interview court stenographers on his show. If it is a guest you can't imagine Stern interviewing (pretty much all of Mike's guests), then don't book them.

This is a question for WashingTone-Locian:

What would you guess that Chad Dukes makes per year for Lavar and Dukes?

Drab?

Oscar(I know he's not really on radio as of now)

What do you think Chad and Oscar were making before the format flip?

I don't expect you to know exactly what they make but you seem to know a lot about this stuff so I'm curious as to where you would ballpark their salaries at.

Thanks

Cripes.... Spewak sure has put no effort into finding work and updating his resume & connections. According to his pathetic LinkedIn profile, he thinks he still works for CBS. What a dope. He's got two connections listed... probably Mike & Buzz. lol

What do you expect from a guy who lists "board operator" as his first qualification to consult about the radio industry?

I don't know for sure, but people naturally assume broadcasters make more than they typically do because they hear about how much Howard Stern and Katie Couric make. I would have to guess that Lavar probably makes about $300K because of his NFL background. B. Mitch was making $150K at WTEM before he was let go. It seems that $150k is about what a decent talent makes in drive-time, so I would have to guess Dukes is somewhere in the $125K to $150K range.

There is a huge drop-off between the true on-air people and producers who happen to get on the air. I would think Drab is probably making about $50K at most.

I have no idea what he is making now. It sounds like he does sales for ManGrates, but I really couldn't guess.

As a midday shift, I would guess they probably made between $65K and $75K each.

Keep in mind that WJFK brings in about $10 million a year in gross revenue. So the idea that CBS is throwing several million dollars at the Junkies, etc, is kind of suspect. The GM, senior sales managers, etc, are probably all bringing in pretty decent pay, so that all impacts what CBS is willing to allocate to talent at a station that typically lands in the high teens/low 20s in the ratings.

Podcast Ratings:

THE DON GERONIMO SHOW - #132 (a strong number for Don.)
THE MIKE O'MEARA SHOW - #66 (a weak showing for Mike.)

That means that Mike's Show is now only TWICE as popular Don's Show. Good work Don!

And Mike is TWICE as more likely to file for bankruptcy than Don.

And Don is #4 in Sacramento while Mike is #22 in DC. And Mike can snicker about Don being in Sacramento all he wants. I'm sure Don snickers at Mike making the same income Don did back in the early 1980s.

It takes a . . . remarkable . . . mind to get worked up over podcast downloads rather than actual ratings.

Of course, Mike O'Meara's radio show HAS no ratings, so perhaps that's understandable.

I believe the argument is that podcast ratings are the only measure possible to judge the success of the MOM Show against any other show, which kind of proves a point in and of itself, really.

I understand his argument, and he is just wrong. it's not fair to compare mike's podcast ratings to don's podcast ratings. Don doesn't promote his podcast. In fact, it's better for Don (for syndication reasons) to NOT promote his podcast. Mike, on the other hand puts all of his resources into promoting his podcast. So you can't judge which is a better show based on podcast statistics, its just not fair.

I listened to a bit of The Edge this morning. Mike was interviewing a psychic. It was a serious interview. Mike showed this con artist all kinds of respect.

Seriously, WTF is wrong with Mike? Did he not learn ANYTHING while working with Don? Don would have eviscerated this lying cunt on the air. Mike was acting like he was interviewing Sandra Day O'Connor.

Mike truly sucks ass. When is Citadel going to realize this?

Why be in the Top 5 when you can be in 22nd place? Mike is comfortably kicking the ass of God Talk WAVA and the country station from Fredericksburg. He's Radio Gold!

Yeah, for such a behind the scenes ball-buster, O'Meara appears to be reverting to the play-it-safe, don't make any waves attitude that doomed his JFK solo gig.

The morons at Citadel **HAVE** to come to conclusion that their ratings won't take a hit one way or the other by ditching K&M for robo-programming.

The good news: Don's Show has climbed to 97!!! ...in the podcast ratings.
The bad news: Mike's show is back up to 46 in the ratings.

Making Mike's Show MORE than TWICE as popular as Don's.

Don's real show on real radio with real advertisers is #4.

Mike's real show on real radio without real advertisers is #22.

Don > Mike

And Mike is MORE than TWICE as likely to be divorced this year;

MORE than TWICE as likely to have his house foreclosed on this year;

MORE than TWICE as likely to be sleeping on a cot in a homeless shelter this year;

MORE than TWICE as likely to declare bankruptcy this year;

And, finally, is MORE than TWICE as likely to die of a massive heart attack before 2012!

Quite the opposite actually. Kirk has forged some pretty solid ties with the O'Meara organization. He's a team player that has made some sacrifices and obligations. This goes all the way back to when Kirk was part of Mike's radio mentoring program put together by Robb's radio consulting firm. Kirk learned alot from Mike and developed a respect and admiration for him that will last a lifetime. He sees Mike as almost like a father figure in the radio profession. He and Mike will be together for alot longer then you think.

Duh! Thirty-five years in the business and you'd think I'd recognize "irony" when I read it!

Damn well done - and oh so subtle!

The reads get O'Meara more $$, and I suppose the remotes may do so as well.

A few live reads daily and a couple of remotes a month have to generate much more $$ than the podcast empire.

An having said that, I predict Ronick or other another MOM troll will respond shortly with a missive detailing MOM's habit of wiping his ass or lighting his gas grill with $100 bills!

Mike doesn't make any money for the commercial reads. Most of it is work he does pro bono to keep a good name for himself with businesses he trusts. It's a good way to build an alliance. Start with a strong foundation. And the few companies that insist on paying, Mike donates it straight to charity. Mike has no need for other peoples money and would rather give a helping hand to those who need it most.

Does the money O'Meara gets from Citadel for the VRX gig qualify as "other people's money"?

Did he help Rob(b) keep his townhome?

No.

Did he pay Buzz the money he owed him in a timely fashion?

No.

Did he pay all of his employees what he owed them when he shut down his restaurant/bar? From what people have posted here...

No.

I feel terrible being the bearer of such depressing news, but Don is again slipping very, very badly in the podcast ratings: #179

That means he has to move up 179 spots to be #1.
And if he drops just 21 more... he disappears.

But let's try to be positive. The truth is his podcast has never been even mildly successful, so if it disappears it will save him a lot of embarrassment.

I hereby concede podcast victory to the almighty Mike O'Meara and the media juggernaut that is the MOMS podcast. I am duly embarrassed by my woeful showing.

Please to be moving along to my other current media venture, coming soon to a radio station near you!

I get a sense that Don is feeling some sour grapes over Mike's invitation to be on Dancing With The Stars. Clearly Don has better ratings, but in his mind it hurts to know that he would get the cold shoulder from the show's producers, while a word of mouth podcast might land Mike on national TV. You could almost hear it in his voice when word got out. And even though Mike would probably turn it down, Don might still be a little bitter about being snubbed. He really should try to be a bigger man about it.

I was watching the Jets/Patriots game today and I noticed that Sylvania re-did their SilverStar headlights commercial. It's the exact same ad, but they swapped out Buzz Burbank's voiceover with a new guy.

I wonder what was behind that decision? Does Sylvania not want to be associated with a weed toker or something? lol

The first ad was probably a regional spot used on cable networks and local stations. They probably used Buzz because he would take a flat fee. The spot you saw on the game was probably a national spot with major voice talent who is receiving residuals.

The day we've all been dreading has finally arrived. I feel horrible, just horrible.

The Don Geronimo Show has fallen completely off the top 200 podcast charts. Now we don't even know how unpopular it is. Is it #237? Or #279. Maybe NO ONE listens!?!

Let's have a moment of silence for Don's podcast career. Don't be embarrassed Don.
You tried your best, and that's all anyone can expect.

HDC:

Let it be a comfort to you. Be you Fatso Mike, or just one of his (fewer and fewer each day) acolytes, I hope the fact that Mike's non-revenue generating podcast -- the only place to sample Mike's dwindling talents -- has more downloads than Don's podcast of a radio show that can actually be HEARD ON THE REVENUE-GENERATING RADIO makes you very, very, happy.

So count the remaining days of the failcast. Treasure them.

Are worthless. And you are just going by iTunes. By the other side of the coin, Mike must simply be on the top of the world, financially and career-wise, what with the incredible success he has going with his number 60something "iTunes Ranked" podcast, right?
Hey, speaking of that, where is the Michael Savage podcast "ranked"? Or Dan Patrick, or Rush Limbaugh, or the Junkies, or Jim Rome, or others who do actual radio shows and offer podcasts.
They are not there because they are ON THE RADIO.
Your continuing arguments to further your meaningless "rankings" show through the skeleton to reveal someone in the MOM camp.
Answer me, these questions three:
1 How do podcasts rankings matter
2 Name other radio hosts with killer podcasts like Mike's
3 How come Mike isn't more amazingly popular because of his amazing podcast?

I will hang up and wait for your answer.

"1 How do podcasts rankings matter"

When you only have a podcast and aren't broadcast on the radio then they matter. When you actually have a career, they don't.

"2 Name other radio hosts with killer podcasts like Mike's"

Other "Comedy" that's currently beating O'Meara includes...
Yu-gi-Oh: The Abridged Series (#31)
Old Jews Telling Jokes (#34)
Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4 (#36)
Howard Kremer (#41)
Karl Pilkington (#42)
Dilbert (#53)
"That's Gay" (#60)

"3 How come Mike isn't more amazingly popular because of his amazing podcast?"

He is. He's got the 83rd ranked comedy podcast and is killing it on DC morning drive time. Oh yeah.

Now with Mike at #75, and Don at #200 that means Mike is only 62.5% MORE POPULAR than Don with a computer literate audience.

And don't get down. Dumb guys that still listen to the radio really like Don's show. Really, they actually do!

You know, like I've said before, bragging about podcast ranking is like 5th grade boys bragging about the size of their dicks.

For example; waaaaay back in the day, like early 2002 or something, there was this totally awesome new app out there to manage your music called iTunes. I'd been a winamp lover since before I could remember, and there was alot of change, but this app was a big, big deal. It was going to change everything. And it had this slick new thing called a podcast. ANYONE could make some audio track, and send it out to the world, for free! This was seriously heady stuff. So I started messing around with it. Not wanting to get involved in copyright crap, I decided to read some Hans Christian Andersen stories and podcast them. It was awesome! I designed the podcasts for kids, thinking other geeks like me would d/l them and let their kids listen to them. And sure enough, they did. I was at one time ranked #7 on some list. I don't remember what list, I only did a few stories. But it was pretty cool.

How is this relevant? It shows a) anyone can do a podcast, b) there's no money to be made in it, c) it takes zero "on-air" talent and, d) I was better than the MOMS without even trying.

Wait, hold up a minute. Podcasting is an art form. Eventually (within 20 years or so, I predict), the classic podcasts of this era will be worth millions, just like the impressionist, and pre- and post-, paintings are currently.

Do you think that MOM would be so stupid as to do his podcast without the goal of earning his ample reward in his afterlife? You don't suppose that he has cut off his ear yet, in the hopes of winning the eternal love of his muse, Carla?

Or am I just rambling, like my good friend, Mike?

Let's do some real comparisons between Don and Mike:

Don - Buying a House
Mike - Trying not to lose his

Don - Makes a significant income
Mike - Makes "a janitor's" income

Don - Talks about how great his life is
Mike - Talks about how "they have taken our freedoms" and how everyone is out to get him

Don - Is on his second wife because his first wife died
Mike - Is on wife #?? because he's an asshole

Don - Receives phone calls from networks interested in syndication deals
Mike - Receives phone calls from bill collectors interested in getting paid

Don - Look toward the future
Mike - Living in the past

Post of the decade IMHO.

I'm assuming HDC is an O'Meara insider/syncophant. There must be mucho anger/resentment to Don G. in that camp.

Why? Because he stayed with CBS and didn't go down in Podcast flames like team O'Meara?

I can't say it enough - some of O'Meara's crew, had they tried - could have stayed with CBS and built careers, even if it meant starting over in some off-air capacity.

I guess Team O'Meara found "broadcasting" from someone's living room and a two hour gig on KCJJ a better career move. Ok, then live with it boys.

But geez, don't get mad at Don because he didn't join you.

HDC got smacked down too one too many times by facts of the Podcast Ratings Vs Ratings That Matter argument, so now he goes after the fans. Classy move, and true to the O'Meara mode of operation.

Let's see, you're the one who comes here defending Mike's show by spewing podcast ratings. We're the ones throwing back facts and logic. Who's the real idiot?
