I only watched the half hour or so of the show that showed up on UStream this morning, but an apparently genuinely curious caller did ask the boys about the departure of Buzz. Mike replied, with something resembling candor, that it was a painful breakup, but that both Buzz and Marc had dropped him a note when his mom passed away.

The first State Theater show occurred at a time when I still kinda un-ironically liked TMOS. For a minute, the boys seemed to be leaning into the catastrophes their careers had become. They'd gone from national syndication to doing an Internet show from a living room, which they acknowledged by recreating the living room studio on the stage. For half a second, they embraced the stupidity of their show-- road trip to their one sad terrestrial holdout in Iowa, for fuck's sake?-- and it was working. They were unapologetically a dumb podcast starring failed and fired deejays. If they had actually renamed TMOS the Failcast, it would have been glorious.

I don't know what happened, but at some point Mike stopped having a sense of humor about the whole thing. The Mike O'Meara Show started to be Serious Business to him. The MacGyver'ed together living room studio went away, replaced by slick, logo-embossed soundproofing. The fact that they were broadcast not only on an affiliate in Iowa, but at night on a pay-to-play station in DC became not the butt of jokes about how small-time the show was, but an actual point of pride. And the fact that Buzz wanted out became a source of actual hurt feelings-- because TMOS had, at least in Mike's mind, actually become a job, as opposed to an excuse for the boys to avoid getting real jobs.

The fact that this stupid message board thread could actually offend Mike, or any fan of the show, is demonstrable proof of how they so, so, so don't "get it." We thought they did. Apparently not.

(Eh, Oscar kinda does. But he can't let on, or else Mike won't like it.)

Anyway. Yeah, the first State show kind of encapsulated the DIY, lemonade-out-of-lemons vibe the show had going on at the time. It wasn't groundbreaking comedy, but it was stupid fun.

I don't really appreciate my personal photos being posted on this site. I have sat by long enough, because my father asked me to, but it really gets old when you do a google search on my name and this trash comes up.

I am well aware that my because of my father is a celebrity that myself, sister, and family do from time to time get brought up.

But the senseless trash that gets spewed on a day in and day out basis is old.

If you don't like the show that is fine, by the immature attacks on family is just plain cruel.
